>>
>>47643322
4 or 5 players having fun and not taking things too seriously.
>>
>>47643322

Fighter
Rogue
Cleric
Wizard
Support/multi-role

That last can be a ranger, bard, monk, or paladin. Or a multiclass/dual class. Or a snowflake class like assassin or ninja. Or a second character with a core class.

Point being you need the four core roles fulfilled, but should have five people in your group. Subbing a core class only works if you have someone who can take up the role. Or a non traditional GM.

Ideally it has four PCs, not five. Five is too many. The classes don't matter at all, but there should be four characters. Four characters, and three dicks, in any combination.
>>
>>47645104

Alas, TV tropes has this right.
>>

> Five is too many

Not true man. You need one redshirt to walk in front of the party. Who else do you have to tank all unobserved traps?
>>

Players who can accept the GM's world setup.

>>47645189
>>47645005
And this. This is good too.
>>
>>47645226
You're just proving five is too many. The game is better when the party has to stretch or risk themselves to cover every base.
>>
Depends on the edition, but really you can usually get away with almost anything if you're ok with playing sub-optimally unless your DM really wants that ivory tower. Which is completely fine.
>>
>>47643322
I haven't got a clue what ideal is as our current game is:

Sorcerer
Sorcerer
Sorcerer
Wizard
Cleric
That magic Rogue subclass
Wizard/Fighter multiclass
Druid

And we are having so much fun right now.

Course you need a DM to play to your strengths and weaknesses.
>>
Rate my party

>Barbarian that's taken up the role of the leader due to his loud and brash nature
>Paladin that tries to real in the Barbarian and plays "Good Cop" when confronting people for information
>Monk who is a master of dex and is the party's most deadly member
>Warlock who is secretly reading everyone's mind at all times and spends most of combat trying to convert the enemy to his side
>Ranger who focuses all their skills in archery and stealth. Pretty much the scout.

>>

Clerics only do that in shitty anime and the magical realm fantasies of idiot neckbeards.

There are a wide variety of ways to play any class.

S-some demure k-kawaii uguu hea-healslut t-trap who t-talks in-in a s-tutter and j-just wants..wants t-to heal e-veryone is only one way to play a cleric. And one of the most fucking grating ways too.

>Joke
>Meme.
>Pick Both.

Nigga I know. But this shitty meme just kills my interest about Clerics. At least with Paladins they get some good inspirational shit and or good memes.
>>
>>47646994
When people joke about healsluts, that means they have not played a single tabletop RPG in their life and just come here for quests and/or lewd threads.

Don't extrapolate their bullshit on your tabletop experience. Clerics are awesome. If you don't want any healer tropes, roll up an evil cleric or a cleric of a war god and never prepare cure spells.

What pisses me off about how clerics are played anyway isn't the healslut meme, but the "wizard in armor" meme. I wish people actually roleplayed their character's religion from time to time as I find it a very interesting element of worldbuilding, and if I ever DM I will actually make clerics fall for failing to do daily prayers and obediences.
>>
Create a party of 4 pcs with the same class but each specializing in a different role of the classical 4: tank, striker, support/control and skill monkey/face. You don't need to give the entire builds, a list of key feats, objects and wich abilities and skills each character will focus on will suffice.

hard mode: no wizards

insane mode: monks
>>
>>47643322
Someone to fight, someone to cast spells, someone to disarm traps, and someone to talk to people.

If there can be overlap between these four roles, so much the better.
>>
>>47647150
Seriously, there are like 7 editions better than your shitty deck builder one.
>>
>>47646994
So all the shitty memes about wizards and paladins don't turn you off of them? That's selective memory right there. There is nothing intrinsically different about roleplaying a cleric and roleplaying a paladin.

>>47647074
>When people joke about healsluts, that means they have not played a single tabletop RPG in their life and just come here for quests and/or lewd threads.
Nigga, it's a joke. If I joked about a bard who hits on literally everything, does that mean I've never played a TTRPG? No, you're just projecting your hatred of various things and blaming them all on a single group.
>>
>>47647196
anon didn't even name an edition
>>
>>47646031
>No such thing as Battle Clerics.
They have decent BAB, have a stupid number of spells that empower themselves, and could wear plate mail until PF. Add the fact that healing during combat is mathematically retarded and other spells offer far better benefits, and the closest thing you have to a healslut is going to be a wand of cure light wounds.

Desu desu Clerics don't happen unless someone is either a weaboo or a grognard.
>>
>>47647202
>You don't need to give the entire builds, a list of key feats, objects and wich abilities and skills each character will focus on will suffice.

Competent players who enjoy a good story, can roll with the punches, and think outside of the box to overcoming the obstacles before them.

Also consisting of

Fighter
Wizard
Cleric
Thief

At about level 4-7.
>>
I personally prefer the party to be underdogs.

Someone has to be strong enough to deal with creatures in close combat, a fighter, monk or rouge usually takes this role. (I don't really like fighters though)
Then someone who can can buff or keep the team alive.
A cleric, paladin or bard usually fill this role.
As long as those two roles are filled, the rest doesn't really matter.
I like to have a leader of the party.
Someone charismatic and good with politics even if they are useless in battle.
I often allow multiple of same class, it could tie in with the story (although a party of bards would be really weird)

No one ever writing about 5e says "key feats" or "skills to focus on". No one ever writing about 4e says easy mode is wizards only, and they definitely don't say monks only is the nightmare mode.

I don't really know what you're talking about, but he's right. Monks are medicre at worst in 5e and actually kinda good in 4e, so realistically speaking this guy could only have been talking about 3e or Pathfinder.

>>47643322
In 3.5:
Tough, hard-hitting melee character
Problem-solver or two: rogue, bard, mage
Somebody who can provide healing in emergency situations and be useful in the meantime, preferably cleric but druid can work, at lower levels even bard/ranger/paladin might suffice.

So yeah, fighter+wizard+rogue+cleric obviously works exceptionally well.

One main character, who uses swords and a small amount of magic.

His pure weapons foil.

An aloof elf with bows, swords, and magic.

The dwarf, who offers nothing except jokes and murder.

The huge breasted healer woman who's only real job is to throw her ankles behind her head and take the main character's cock.

And finally, the wizard who could easily break the entire campaign and then die while withholding critical information that could easily skip half the story if he would utter it.

1 or 2 frontlines, someone who can make a barrier and soak hits. Sometimes neat shields like Paladins or Fighters, sometimes mix a Rogue or an Inquisitor in.
1 ranged DPR, your party's main source of damage. Bows are obviously a choice here, plenty of other options though.
1 support, the simple way to cover this is a healer like a Cleric, but a Bard works too and really anyone who can cleans debuffs can suit here and maybe also be a frontlines.
1 Wizard.
>>
A guy to soak hits.
A guy who can deal damage from afar.
A guy who can direct an opponent's action.
A guy who can heal damage and lend support.

That's all you really need.
>>
Cute grill life cleric who doesn't really understand how to play the game but does her best (current party actually has exactly this and it's amazing)

wizard of some sort, either old bumbling man wizard or arrogant elf wizard or something like that

sneaky chaotic rogue of some sort, not a murdery dickstabbing rogue but the rather bro "out for only themselves and their close firends" rogue

fat bearded bro playing a dwarf fighter/barbarian

"the funny guy" playing a bard

me playing a paladin
