It is known as a grenadiers pepperbox, invented by dutch nobles in the late 1700s it was one of the earliest fire arms that could fire more then one time. Imagine a revolver but with the ball and powder loading. Unfortunately it was also rather delicate due to all the machinery and often misfired, exploding in the users hand as all the powder went off at once.
