I certainly had a natures claim planned for the SB, i have it in the tappedout page i think. how are you liking the list?

i actually basically have it built, i cant wait to test it at a local. Im going to play ssbm tonight, but i think tomorrow they run modern so i could go give the list a run and see how it works at my local. It isnt perfect because im missing a couple fetches but it works for me.

It's somewhat budget. I spent about 300 bucks on it over the course of a couple days. I had several of the cards or replacements nearby, and Im currently borrowing a couple fetches and replaced a couple (a basic land, a smoldering marsh, and an academy ruins with a buried ruin). Replaced a third serum visions with a breaking//entering which are themselves replacements for glimpses, but the deck is very playable as it is. sorry about the rotation, uploading from phone and all

To put shit in the graveyard for Spellweaver Helix
You know, the win condition
>>
>>47594191

because you're playing fetch lands and life from the loam. standard use case is you mill yourself at least 12 for 1 mana (which can win you the game if you have spellweaver in hand), and more if it sticks around on the board. worst case is they remove it and you trade 1 for 1 anyways.

Yeah I guess. I absolutely LOVE Bolting the Noble Hierarch, and from all that gained tempo it's much easier to start flinging removal spells on anything you have left.

Crumble to Dust sounds kinda slow though. I understand bringing it in because it can be a blowout, but man it's scary thought to tap out for a counterable spell when you have an Inkmoth Nexus on the battlefield. I like Fulminator Mage in this matchup, it feels safer.

I have two dice and roll them to see the power of each force 20 = full legion 1 = small outpost. I run a tally and have head cannon with each decks conflicts eg: White setting in Athens and fighting off encroaching green beasts, deeper in green territory come black who aim to spread disease, red/white is a faction split from Athens that joined a planeswalker,)

2. I don't have my exact list with me but I think the pump suite was something like:

3 groundswell
3 mutagenic
3 become immense

>>
>>47601256
The deck is still fast and capable of t2-3 kills without groundswell. Sometimes it's underwhelming when you can't landfall specifically for that kill window around mid-late game.

I've never played Affinity (although I've played against it plenty of times).

The play is dump everything but Cranial and Springleaf right?

T2 is less clear to me. Assuming no disruption: Cast Drum, cast Plating off the opal and Drum-Ornithopter, attack with Memnite and pump with Steel Overseer right?
>>
>>47602064
you cast drum t1 of nexus. play and equip plating t2 I'm guessing.
>>
Not quite, you dump everything but plating by using spring leaf tapping one of your critters to get the overseer down. Then you swing with the land turn 2 plated up and activate overseer.
>>
>>47602064
Not him but turn 1 play the land, tap and play spring leaf then ornithopter, memnite and opal. Tap springleaf and opal for steel overseer. Next turn you can untap and tap him to pump the team and play a plating, tap ornithopter to equip to memnite and swing for 8
>>
>>47602121
Meant to say you activate the land for the overseer trigger
>>
I put t1 land, creature, creature, tapped land for drum, tapped drum and opal to cast overseer; pass turn. T2 I did cast plating with land and opal, used drum to equip, swing in with ornithoper because they had a blocker, pumped with overseer. 7 damage, 3 beefy creatures turn 2 aint bad at alll.
Overseer dies to a strong wind though.

>>47602204
In Affinity everything dies to a stiff breeze. The thing I've felt losing to the deck is that the deck doesn't care. They're doing something wretched with an Overseer, Signal Pest, Ravager, OR Plating and they have more threats than you have answers.

The deck has so many fucking bad draws but by the time that becomes an issue you're stabilized against it but one of the manlands get you.

It's a weird fucking combo-aggro deck.
>>
>>47602277
i LOVE it when people underestimate signal pest. And when they're DON'T underestimate it, they're spending their t3 mana to abrupt decay it, I'm swinging in with vault skirges and manlands and giving no fucks.
>>
I've been playing Affinity since 2013 and stopped in 2015 but, despite the hate in the meta, Mox Opal has no business being legal.

Do you know how powerful Mox Sapphire is in Vintage? Good thing we can only have one on the battlefield at a time thanks to the Restricted List, or else it would be chaotic. Well, Mox Opal is pretty damn similar in Affinity, except you have 4 copies in your deck instead of 1, extra copies you draw become Lotus Petals (even better Lotus Petals if you have Arcbound Ravager on the battlefield) and it gives you mana of any color. It speeds up the deck to bullshit levels by allowing more consistent T2 Plating Equip plays.

At least the card is definitely on the DCI's watchlist. Affinity will likely get some new toys in Kaladesh and Mox Opal will get banned.
>>
>>47602514
The deck is beatable even with a bunch of opals in hand and ravager on board. Sure, it feels "unfair", but if enough decks in the meta can win, then if you lose to it, it's either bad luck or your own fault for playing a deck that can't beat it.

Decks with ancient grudge and a bunch of removal (Bg/x) make affinity sweat, because if you stop them after their turn 1-2 hand dumps, they go into RDW top-deck mode. Infect can combo around affinity, especially if blessing in hand. Tron plays pyroclasm, karn, and ugin main, which is enough explanation. Jeskai control has access to stony silence, pyroclasm, electrolyze, a buttfuckload of counterspells/ other removal.

Affinity is probably the best deck game 1 in the format, but game 2/3 is an entirely different story.

You're correct about kaladesh though. If the artifacts are too gud, Affinity might get too good.

>>47595563
Prepare for byes against ad nauseam.

Piggy backing off cards that are stupid broken in certain decks, I'm surprised that ancient stirrings is still legal. I play R/G Tron and the consistency that the card provides the deck is absurd. Hey, I'm new to mtg and I found this card (pic related). I'm a little confused as to how its effect works. Does it mean that one skeleton has to be in the graveyard, and one on the field, and the one on the field can take the other our of the graveyard? Or can I have an empty board, and the skeleton in the graveyard, and tap mana to get it back to my hand?
>>
>>47604664
it's the second
>>
>>47604664
you're right that normally activated abilities only work for creatures that are on the battlefield. but if it says something like "move this from your graveyard to x location" then it means that activated ability actually only works when it is in your graveyard, instead of only when it is in play. so, all that means is when it's in your yard you can pay 3 to put it in your hand

Its a cool take on it, path softens up the g1 infect mathup, and can deal with Melira combo. The landbase seems a bit painful, but the timelys can be REALLY damn good. Narset seems winmore, but at the same time acts as a sort of mine #5. I wouldn't care for it but it's also really spicy and fun.

White gives you some really competitive sideboard options. the fetches are cute with Temporal Trespass, and you might btfo a burn player game 1 with the 2of timely, but the fetches will hurt and a burn player packs lots of anti-life gain so IMO it evens out.

Imo I think monoblue is best, if you dont draw timely the fetches might get you got.

Hmmm the Sundroplets, how have they been? I like your list anon, Titi is really cool. I feel like he suffers the same thing mini Jace does, where he gets Terminated all day. If they path him though, hey free ramp is sweet.
>>
>>47597311
at Comp REL people will try to decay the nexus hoping you forget about the nonland clause

people also try to level up infect players by blocking an inkmoth nexus with a flashed in snapcaster since 99.9% of the things that have flash have flying in mtg
>>
>>47605055
that's actually cheating though. it's not like jamming spells into chalice of the void.

you'll lose....A LOT

it's not a very good deck

but people are afraid of it

infect is 90% image and threatening what is possible without actually having the ability to do it

if they're working with perfect info you lose

if you turn 2 someone don't make a big deal about it, and mention how it's SUPER COMMON

it will happen maybe once every 200 games, if you're lucky

but it scares people into misplaying
>>
>>47605086
haha they're actually checking to see if you remembered

same with exalted triggers

"i don't see how it's 10" is them seeing if you remember to count exalted after you tell them damage dealt

>>47605072
a lot of magic players cheat, and players view cheating against infect decks as par for the course since "infect players are bad people and cheating against them is like stealing from a criminal"
>>
>>47605007
>Imo I think monoblue is best, if you dont draw timely the fetches might get you got.
Yeah I've been playing the UW version on xmage but I'm still going to stick to the mono U version when I play in person.

>Hmmm the Sundroplets, how have they been?
It's been helpful against burn. I've been thinking about replacing them with Chalices though.

>I like your list anon, Titi is really cool. I feel like he suffers the same thing mini Jace does, where he gets Terminated all day.
I've been on/off the Things lately. I replaced my set of Gigadrowses for them but I've been having second thoughts.
>>
>>47605120
>"i don't see how it's 10" is them seeing if you remember to count exalted after you tell them damage dealt
I thought you don't have to announce triggers, merely acknowledge that the triggers exist. If you count the exalted trigger during the damage step, you haven't missed it.

>Local meta is usually composed of jund jeskai grixis eldrazi zoo affinity scapeshift

>Any suggestions?

don't play infect

scapeshift has chalice on 1 and they board in A LOT of fucking copies

the control-ish decks jeskai and grixxis run too much removal and interaction for you to fight

jund will out attrition you almost every time and thoughtseize IOK will attack your silver bullets

zoo and affinity are faster and run more removal than you know what to do with.

affinity is like a 40% win matchup, zoo is a little lower depending on build.

you entire sideboard is ill-equipped to handle any of those threats

>>
>>47605300
>>47605300
idk who the fuck you've been playing but affinity tends to have a faster clock than infect especially if they fuck with your plans early on

a lot of people default to "hurr durr blighted agent"

yeah but on the draw.....playing blighted agent.....then waiting until your second turn to hit them hard.......affinity goldfishes turn 3 wins if you're not stupid

unless your idiot friends cut down on opals and cut down on cranial platings then it should be an easy matchup for affinity

i've actually lent my personal infect deck out at a tournament and faced it when i was piloting my affinity list.......and I didn't falter on the 2-0
>>
>>47605385

>people will try to decay the nexus hoping you forget about the nonland clause
Even if you're drunk or something and do throw nexus in the yard the game would have to be rollbacked to the point when the decay was played because it's something you literally aren't allowed to do.
>>
>>47600572
I'd argue it's actually better to test with perfect information if you can actually play, that way punts are eliminated out of the process and you can see strengths and weaknesses of both decks in specific situations.
>>
>>47605385

Wow you lent your deck to someone and managed to beat them when you were intimately familiar with both decks? Gee I guess the matchup's solved guys, better pack up those glistener elves.
>>

Done. My magic licence is in the post. It's only valid until September though. Do I have to renew each season? Should I buy cards now?
>>
>>47605647
how could you get bored with affinity when you can just repeatedly stomp infect so hard? 60% winrate, dude!
>>
>>47605650
what, really? no, for modern you don't have to renew ever, unless they ban your deck out or something. i guess for standard you would have to renew your $300-$400 deck piece by piece over the course of a year or so. are you at all familiar with the game at least casually? it takes a little while to learn the game itself as well as the meta; to be honest i'm really not sure where i would recommend starting. ideally you'd find some helpful people who can help you learn, if you haven't played before. if you have played before just buy some random tier 1 deck from mtgtop8 and get crushed until you learn how to play competitively
>>
>>47605606
Play casually with friends until you feel like moving on. Then spend all your money on a competitive deck and start going to FNM.

If you don't have friends to play with then go to your LGS and ask if they have days with casual play or if someone there will help you learn the game.

I think Affinity is fun to play. Been playing for about a year and haven't gotten bored yet.
>>
>haven't played since Urza's Saga
>old cards all at parent's house

What do I buy? I think I'd prefer the most recent, relevant thing. Is Origins a good place to start, or should I get something from the Innistrad block? I'm thinking a starter deck and a fat pack, but I don't know what's out there anymore.
>>
>>47605647
RW feat. blood moon, fulminator, avalance riders, wall of omens, restoration angel, reveillark, etc
>>
>>47606542
if you just want to play casually with friends and aren't looking to become real invested in the game that's fine. you can pick up an intro deck and buy some boosters and spiffy it up with whatever you open.

if you're interested in playing competitively at all, buying sealed product is a waste of money. find a shop that does drafts, do a few of those to get back in the swing of things, then go to a website like mtggoldfish or mtgtop8 and find a deck in colors you like then buy the singles to put that together.
>>
>>47606618
Thanks, man. Definitely not looking to get competitive now, so I'll just go with the deck/packs option. I've always loved opening packs, anyhow.

Crumble does nothing against mono color decks (elves, merfolk, RDW to name a few), it can't be recast with Dankdweller, and you can't cast it on turn three before your opponent has cast their threats. It's great against Tron, but I prefer Bramblecrush as my 4CMC mainboard as it can destroy enchantments, planeswalkers and artifacts, which are more common.

If you pass the turn after putting it in the graveyard, I don't think a judge will rollback since it involves rolling back the card draw of the turn. Typically both players will get a Warning (the Decayer for making an illegal play and the opponent for letting him), and the judge will let you play from there, I think.

Opening packs is a waste of time and money. If you want to open packs anyway, look up Limited events in your local game store. Limited events are either Draft or Sealed. Most stores draft the newest set (currently Shadows over Innistrad) every friday. It's a nice way to boost your collection while having fun opening boosters and playing with the cards, while practicing your deck building skills. Plus you get to know your community.

I wouldn't play Abrupt Decay in Elves. It's a fairly dead card that doesn't really help you go fast and you have an extremely slim chance of drawing into it. Many times you will end up sliding it to the bottom off a CoCo, especially since you're lacking the Horizon Canopy cantripping.

Bever played elves before, I'm genuinely curious; what makes GB Elves so much less fun than GW? Shaman of the pack feels like a more reliable wincon than Craterhoof.

How do you come to this conclusion?
Craterhoof is easy to cast and makes everyone enormous tramplers. Shaman is a double bolt most of the time

Eady to play around, Blighted Agent can't realistically be answered and Affinity's average kill is 1-2 turns slower.

I'm fairly new to magic, and I just want some card sleeves, it doesn't super matter what the color or pattern is. What's a good brand/place to get them?
