Oh no, I'll have to fight and kill something that keeps its treasure in neat boxes. Who would have expected such resistance from his fellow man, in an abandoned crypt of all places? What horror.

As a dungeon-diving explorer, I could not have foreseen the possibility of facing a human being in deadly combat, breaking his body, and spilling his blood.. and all this toil and foulness for some dusty coins and gilded baubles? It is a travesty beyond measure, such a senseless waste of human life, to trade a stranger's blood for trinkets that could be bought in a store.

I did that to my d&d group awhile back, they were in over their heads and low on supplies, and the final big bad of the temple said if they pressed on they could fight, but he'd let them walk if they dropped what they'd looted.

It was pretty fun, I wouldn't dream of doing it more than once in a campaign though.

A DM worth his dice would not make such an unremarkable and vaguely-spooky room unless it was for the express purpose of throwing you off or fucking your shit up. You walk into that room half-assed, you know something horrible is going to happen.

Also, think to yourself about what kind of room is dark, and empty but for a single simple chair. People were probably tortured in that room.

Mussolini didn't make the trains run on time. The railway network was significantly improved before he came to power, and even then there's plenty of evidence that shows that even then, the trains in fascist italy didn't necessarily adhere to schedule more than they did anywhere else.

Not him, but there is a lot to be said for cohesiveness in world design.

Nasty stuff will go on behind closed doors, crime, shady dealings, ect. The fact you are playing in the universe at all means there is going to be conflict of some description - what is an adventure without danger, without foes to slay? Adding nasty, disgusting things is (usually) no magical realm, but simply part and parcel of most sword and sorcery gameplay.

Monsters should be monstrous and villans should be dastardly. There is no adventure in a perfect hugbox.

Water
Water means the GM got really, really creative with fucking entire team over with massive strap-on put on everything.
>The water is too deep, you can't run
>The water is murky, you can't see where you are putting your feet
>The water is ice-cold, you will soon start feeling hypothermia
And so on and forth. Combined with random deeps and creatures lurking in the water... no, just fucking no. It also affects loot in general.

Also, any signs of intelligent life activity in place where the worst thing you are to expect should be some wild life or entry-tier monsters. Because it means something that probably can control them (bad) or is so strong it actually feeds on them (fucking awful)

Semi-fresh bodies of other human(oid)s. The more fresh, the worse. Stripped naked and relatively fresh? Ok, time for cigarette break to collect yourself and buy some time to fight off paranoia of GM having something strong enough to perform TPK.

Also, any piece of technology more advanced than "setting average". That means MASSIVE trouble and is usually the moment I openly say to rest of players and also PCs I'm not going any deeper. Shit's too dangerous to risk

Not quite tabletop, but i remember, when i was playing Fallout 3, I detected I picked up a morse code signal on the radio. Naturally I though to myself "Oh cool, free shit." Eventually I tracked the signal down to a marker in the north of the map.

When I opened the door I didn't find some abandoned vault or a secret government bunker. I found a small, sparse room with no furnishings and a set of rudimentary beds. At the opposite end of the room, there sat 3 skeletons. 2 adults, one witha revolver still grasped in hand, the other with a small infant child clutched closely.

As it turned out, there was no loot, the signal was being generated by an old radio transmitter. I deactivated the radio and left them as they were.

Anything that works on zerg tactics, which is to say huge numbers, fast enough to catch up to a retreat, and hit hard enough that four will down someone easily. Throw in traps you need to avoid or having to make saves against the caster's AoE attempts to hold them off and it's just a huge mess of panic.

George Miller has said that there will not be another Mad Max movie, at least not from him. He said that the process of filming the movie was too taxing on him in his old age. So, if we do get another Mad Max, it won't be from Miller. And nobody will be able to make it like Miller.

Once had a session where we entered a chamber with a pedestal in the centre.
>On the pedestal sits a perfectly round, red ball with a smiley face drawn crudely on it.

We are suspicious of this, and a perception check reveals only

>The ball is made of wood.
>Detect Evil yields nothing, the ball appears completely inanimate
>Party Wizard decides to touch the ball
>The ball proceeds to start bouncing of its own accord, staying in one place at first, before bouncing on the wizard, then on the rest of us
>We try to get rid of it, but stop when we end up damaging each other
>The ball does no damage of its own, but throughout the rest of the dungeon it does things like bouncing on the fighter's wrist in close combat and making him miss
>Our party is known for having bad to average rolls, so this thing was a nightmare
>We managed to finish the dungeon, but the fighter ended up sobbing and crying and the wizard has a fear of bouncing ball-shaped objects

Its appeared once or twice since, usually in taverns where it causes us to spill our drinks or fall off our chairs.
We've joked about it being a recurring villain, but I'm not sure we could handle it out in the wilderness again.

Reposting a somewhat relevant idea that i posted a while ago in another thread.

>>47295697
Can i use impossible space? This is all off the top of my head, if it were for a real game I'd research everything and polish it.

Hallways that take you to the same place no matter which direction you go, climbing to the top of a huge spiral stair case and ending up back in the foyer, the doorway ceasing to exist behind you.

Rooms that overlap but are two separate places, if Person A is in room A, and B likewise, they can see each other but not the other room. The rooms don't overlap neatly, person A might seem to be stuck in a wall to B.

Switches that change which doorways connect to each other. Doorways which only go one way, into the room you just left.

Everything follows rules, nothing is random. The layout can be learned and mapped.

I'd fill it with blurred cultures, latin graffiti on a solid gold sarcophagus (as in not hollow), a room filled with broken stone sculptures of greek goddesses, and a single copper statue of Buddha far too large to have come through the doorway, and missing his nose and ears. A sperical room with a sonnet written in english covering the walls, broken by unfinished haikus written in japanese and decorated with delicately painted flowers. Each flower is unique, and has it's common name written beside it in barely legible french.

A stone statue that breathes as though asleep, watched over by a faceless jade sphinx. A set of roman legionnaires armor decorated with celtic symbols, made for a man who was two or three times the height of a normal man, and half as thin. A perfect stone carving of a gorilla skeleton, with the remains of mummified flesh on the bones, cradling a small blue plant with lapis lazuli hanging like berries from its branches.

>>
>>47608317
All the enemy encounters would be primate in armor which is a mixture of multiple cultures, other adventurers, men and women of stone, metal, or precious gems, many of which are humanoid but don't fit into any of the races on the planet. Not aliens, but slightly different, arms too long, mouths too wide, that sort of thing.

The plot regarding the dungeon would be something like it suddenly appeared, but was always there, and the local ruler is offering a reward for anyone who can comprehensively map the dungeon. In theory any riches you find belong to the monarchy, but part of the reward is being able to take up to 10 kilograms of items from the dungeon, excluding rare stones and metals.

The endgame would be the final room, behind a door which can't be opened without having entered certain rooms and completed zelda style puzzles, ones that sometimes rely on impossible space or ignore the laws of physics.

I remember when we pretty much had a mech fight because construct guards and lucking out to find stones to control them. Poor little punchbot, he died protecting the party from a thirty foot tall construct boss with essentially a heat ray that gave my sorceress an inferiority complex. But yeah, walking into the room and seeing that thing dormant had our party shit itself and turn around.
>>
>>47608326
In the final room is an enormous hall with piles of random items spread throughout, some touching the ceiling. The floor can't be seen. In the centre of the room is a large doorway, easily half the height of the room and a quarter the width. It leads into the same room from both sides. Once you enter the room the door disappears, and from the outside you seem to disappear. From the outside the room seems filled with riches, on the inside it looks like stone, but feels like bare skin, hairless and smooth. This room is the defense mechanism of the dungeon. The dungeon is 'alive' and intelligent. It moves from one dimension to the next, luring in living creatures to collect them, their possessions, and their culture. The centre room is a kind of trap, anything living that enters will trigger the departure of the dungeon. It's also a kind of magical kiln that turns flesh into materials seen as valuable by the world it's in. This does several things, the person becomes immune to disease and aging, becomes much heavier, but still able to move easily, and finally it gives the victim a reason not to leave, fear of being killed for their valuable flesh. The dungeon also fills many chambers with water and removes many doorways, ladders, and stairs.

It takes a 3 days for the dungeon to leave, the final part of the campaign is escaping.

It's surreal bullshit but that's what i like to make.

I should also mention, this thing caused us so much pain throughout this one dungeon. It knocked people down, it disarmed us several times, the wizard had a hard time casting, it even took the handle off a door once and we had to find an alternative route.

About the only positive thing it did for us was when the fighter managed to bounce it off his shield and it sent a load of Kobolds screaming to their deaths down a chasm.

yeah, however, when it's "kidnapped ladies all been raped" stuff... i dunno, it's kinda skeevy.

like, not asking for a hugbox, just asking for things other than rape being done to a kidnapping victim to cement how awful a person the villain is. if rape is the only thing used, it starts to appear like someone's magical realm.

I always liked the hole from everquest, but it was never finished as it was intended. In one of the starting cities there's a massive gaping hole, which of course kills you if you try to jump into it or use levitation (players eventually found a way to cheese to the bottom but that's besides the point)

The trek starts behind a door concealed as a pile of rubble, you encounter golems and shit on the way down until you reach a massive underground castle. Random spooky skeletons and ghosts, but you find passages that go even deeper that lead you to an entire ghost city, shit starts to get rough here and you eventually find passages that go even lower.

When you finally reach the bottom there's the usual bbeg fight against some super ghost I can't recall the name of, but also a portal to the plane of earth, where the god of all that lurks beneath resides.

I don't believe the portal ever actually led any where as it was just a placeholder for later content and the team got replaced, but I love the idea of a super long trek against insurmountable odds only to reach the end and discover your not even fucking close to being done and the most powerful fight you ever had was just some chump in front of the real challenge.

That and the atmosphere was fucking awesome, this wasn't instanced shit you would see other groups and full raid parties on your way down, and it gets a little spooky when you see an entire raid force dead in front of a door like they were trying to escape.

I sort of did this in my campaign. The players were riding sleds down a mountainside and as I described the journey and the passing terrain I would suddenly declare a fork in the path due to rocks or some shit. They had to say whether they went right or left as quickly as possible. Of course they got split up somewhat.

Really dark interior, so stealth is a bad idea.
Then you get your first flashback of a businessman. Second that flashback fades, you realize the flashback dude you were face-to-face with is actually a goddamned glowing one that's about ten seconds from ripping your face off.
There're audiologs of a dude who came to visit, they get progressively more messed up, as they catalog him turning into a ghoul.
Then you find the ghoul in the bottom level, worshiping an obelisk that puts out 20 fucking rads/sec, and ghouldude is apparently SUMMONING MORE FERAL GHOULS FROM MISTY STONES!

Still one of my fave haunts in 3, though. Such a blast.

>dices
Dice is already plural. The correct singular of "dice" is one "die" although the singular version is losing popularity.
>>
>>47626551
"Dices" could refer to different sets of particular dice, same as "peoples".
Like if you are referring to a set of d6s and some other set of custom icon dice from some other game, each handful is "dice" but the total of the two sets are "dices".

For instance, "Choose a set of dice from various dices".
