Tell me about the Angels in your setting.
Angels are positive energy plane elementals that generally appear as shimmering, variegated geometric forms and shoot lasers.
Angels are manifestations of the thoughts of God. Despite seeming like independent beings, they're really fragments of a greater whole. A conflict between Angels is an internal disagreement in the mind of God, an entity so vast and complex its existence, through the lens of our world, can only be glimpsed in fragments.

Sacred homunculi used like tools.
One such sacred church has an ezekiel's wheel style one that was sent by their deity with it's wings ripped out, eternally dribbling blood that the church uses to heal the sick and wounded. It's in their basement.
The angels aren't really intellegent in the same way as a person, and are much more akin to divine semi-organic robots, with very basic minds that are designed for obedience. The one in the basement of this church was commanded to fufill this task, and though it does so dutifully, it has been chained in agony for so long that it has steadily grown an atavistic response, and hopefully when the party encounters it and releases or allows it to become released, they're going to have to put it down like a rabid dog.
I want to heavily imply that the angels are essentially the domesticated version of "alien" races that exist outside the known world.

They're very cute!

Seven of them oversee the world in the name of an absent God.

Well each god has 'angels' which came first in the war of heaven and then the mortal races were made. Now the 'angels' are known as demons because they threw mortal lives away like nothing because they ended up being generals. However once the relems were sealed away they became the fodder due to being immortal. and creatures able to summon them but not vice-versa. Thank you Eldar Dragon gods.

Creatures whom were formerly mortals, who ascended through some means to become not quite an elemental, but not quite an avatar. Generally they are of more or less human form, but they tend to mirror or at least take nominal influence from their original, mortal forms, so many take familiar form while others take forms more ancient or unfamiliar forms.
They're relatively few in number, though, and exist in a setting devoid of "gods" as normally known. As such, they are each an object of specific worship, and cultivate a small flock of clerics as well as knights and other servants. Those of note or favor are granted power and boons, though all of the cultivated servants show some small measure or mark of their power.
They share more in common with Buddhavista in nature than with angels of the contemporary Abrahamic tradition, though parallels can occasionally be drawn between them and the classical interpretation of angels.
They're delusions brought on by people at the end of the rope. Rather than being an external being, angels are the embodiment of one's unconsciousness and will to live.

They have the same nature as demons and fey. They form from emotions, and those with bigger share of nice ones become angels. Much more rarer than demons though.
They band up together around Saints - people so great they remained almost unchanged in death. So, we have vengeful crusading angels, calm inner power angels, humorous bardic angels, and so on.

They've all been made into hats. Angelfeather caps were kind of a fad for a while and, well, you know how nobles are. Always trying to one up one another.

Angels are the Nameless One's first creations. They turned against him and as such, were buried deep beneath the Earth so they wouldn't trouble the mortals. But God seemingly died, a few millennium later a Germanic Pantheon arose after a mortal clansman accidentally stumbled across his tools. Imprisoning his vile father in the deepest darkest recesses of the Underworld, Uldric King of the Gods now rules over the world in the Nameless One's stead. But the God's didn't know about the Nameless One's first creations.
Creations that are now starting to leak out of Hell. Not just into the Underworld where the God of the Dead can hunt them with the Hundred Heroes. Nope. Into the mortal world. A world long since changed since Big G took his last. It's Fallen Angels and Demons vs Germanic Gods and Elves. Who will win?

I'm running AdEva, so they're massive skyscraper tall behemoths that appear to break the laws of reality. They came from Ymir, and are seeking to free Fenrir to begin Ragnarok
The leastmost gods. They are of the same species as the greater gods, but they're not that strong and their domains are small.
Mortals can become angels through great effort, and angels can become true gods through yet greater effort.
Think sort of a cross between Shinto Kami and Zoroastrian Yazata.
And yes, some are pretty women. Some are massive armored warriors, some are tall and gaunt androgynous beings, it's all personal preference to them. Their true self is a mote of divine essence, not something picked up on the electromagnetic spectrum.
Ascended heroes that are servants of the gods, as well as their children.
Same goes for devils/demons of the lower plane gods.
Highest ranked martyrs of the Paladin Order.

Why do they wear the mask?
The angels are divided into many categories and act as manifestations of their god's will with a few unique angels with extreme power able to act independently.
They're Eldritch Abomination type-things from who knows where that keep showing up to wreck humanities shit.
