Age of Roundtree edition

The most powerful single model in AoS is... Nagash, the best wizard; can summon an army in single hero phase; good wound ignoring ability; self healing spell; instant kill melee spell... jack of all trade, master for all!!! However, He isn't invincible.

There are no rules for it, no. But people do it anyway because the game invites more narrative character creation. So it's pretty freeform since there are no points.

My method is I take another warscroll as base, and replace some of their abilities with different ones.

Like with he r>>47509058, I took the runelord and replaced the runestaff attack with the shield from the Belegar Ironhammer legacy warscroll.

With him >>47509058, he's basically just the cogsmith warscroll, and I replaced his base armour (5+ save) with the forge-proven gromril armour from the irondrakes.

This is my general, Lord Dunhill. With him I just took a dwarf lord on shieldbearers with shield and runeweapon, and I changed his rune weapon with a great run hammer and replaced the shieldbearers hammer attacks with the steam-powered gauntlet attack from the Grimm Burloksson legacy warscroll.

There aren't any rules, but most people are down for making your own characters. Just base them roughly on already existing characters and talk to your opponent about them.
Here are a couple of mine. These are made for a narrative 'Seven Samurai'-style campaign that will soon start at the flgs.
Incidentally, I still need to come up with one character for this thing. Any concepts or ideas?

How viable is a pure Deathrattle army? I got a bunch of them from tk and vc armies and I wanna go with flesh eaters, so they kinda get left on their own. How about a black axe general with a big blob of archers, a couple of solid spear blocks with hand weapon support, necros and liches for magic and reanimation, and maybe some chariots/necro knights and a necrotect? I kinda wanna give them an ancient tribe/celt feel more than tk or carstein.

summer campaign starts on the 14.7. ends on the 14.8. the results of the campaign will determine how the story progresses (similar to the black crusade) however this time not only battles are accounted for it, there is also modelling and painting.

23.7 is the release date for the generals handbook, which contains the point costs aswell as scenarios costs 20€ and almost 1000 pages. the point costs for each unit will be updated on the datasheets that are linked to the product.

>>
>>47511169
well, bayonetta is literally too over-the-top.
Darksiders 2 aka not-prince-of-persia had aesthetics similar to aos, a good combat system and was pretty fun. With less platforming, more weapon variety and maybe a decent storyline(also: rpgesque lvups plz)an Aos game would have a lot of potential.
think about it: theres plenty of villains to craft, you have realmagets wich can be used to warp trough levels without feeling out of context, you have both enemy to be slayed musou-style in the hundreds(skavens)and elite enemies(chaos).
You have a Power metal aesthetic were you can craft ahetever kingdoms/realms/villages you want so you have TOTAL freedom on the plot...its prefect.
>>
>>47510967
I don't think Total War is the right way to go for an AoS game. One of those Civ hex games is where I would start looking.

>>
>>47511330
I agree but the coding for chagen and combat could be a pain if a few bad decisions are made. A Souls like needs to know what character model the player will be using so letting anything non humanoid in (as a player) would be a pain. I assume it would be possible to make it work for all creatures in the setting and the idea of Nashy as a boss fight is amazing but I think strategy is the easiest way to go.

Hey folks.

So I posted a Seraphon list I was thinking about getting and got some feedback on it.

So I'm thinking about buying the following since I really like the models but I'll need to fill out a bit more of the list, so I could use some advice.

-Start Collecting Seraphon bundle
-Bastiladon
-Engine of the Gods
-Saurus Guard x30
-Slann Starmaster
-Skin Priest
-Saurus Sunblood
-Saurus Eternity Warden

So that will come to 107 wounds with our custom rules, but if I don't use the knights or the warriors that come in the collecting seraphon bundle I'll have 85 wounds.

So what would you recommend adding for another 15 wounds? I'm just not sure I'll be buying any of the fliers. They're too expensive for what they can do imo.

>without basic maps and stuff.
Bait?
And basically, the Old world blew up and in blowing up it created 8 magical realms for each wind of magic. Each one of them is basically endless so you can make whatever you want with them. Maps in the books all refers to specific parts of the realm in wich boo's campaign is taking place, but for your games and Your Dudes you can basically do what you want.

Best way is to read battletomes or the first campaign book-Age Of Sigmar. The rest mostly narrates the ongoing campaign of stormcasts vs Archaon.
>>
>>47515525
Not bait, just trying to get a grasp on things. This is what I thought was the case, but wasn't sure about.

I guess what I'm still confused about is whether or not there are countries and kingdoms outside of Azyr? It seems like many of the realms are totally inhospitable.
>>
>>47515853
>Not bait,
just asked because Aos maps hold a terrible reputation.
because they are, in most cases, fucking awful. theres always a lot of copy-paste, bad details and shit design.
>>47515853
>seems like many of the realms are totally inhospitable.
Kind of, and only in the most corrupted places. All realms bear resemblance to their wind of magic-fire has a lot of lava, volcanos and shit but also there are are a lot of places where settlements can be built.
Most of the realms tho have very little life on them because chaos smashed it during the centuries after the Age of Myth.
AOS doesn't begin immeadately after the explosion of the old world: after that other Ages have passed. civilization prospered again troughout all realms and old races and clans "evolved"and adapted to their new lands, then chaos came-again-and raped almost everyone. Sigmar said: fuck this and took as many people from ALL realms he could, then sealed the realmagates to azyr with a giant middle finger to anyone still in the lands and locked himself in Azyr masturbating to 40k fanfiction creating sigmarines.
So most of the people who remained alive are either cultists-because its the only reality they know, so they can be pretty average people but still tainted in some way or another-scattered tribe running from chaos followers or small realms and/or communities either hiding or trying to resists against chaos.
Its ALL pretty vague because GW in Aos is pushing Your Dudes really hard. they don't want a streamlined setting so anyone can have their piece of it and there's very little you can say "hurr thats not canon".

In concern to the AoS rules. are wounds only allocated to models that are within melee weapon range from models attacking. Can wounds carry over to models not within range of melee weapons?

If the rules do work like that, do you think it would be better for wounds to only be allocated to models within the melee range of attacking models? making the pile in rule and weapons with longer melee rangers more significant?

As i said, its all pretty vague.
The "core"of it can be found in the base starter book-literally described in a few lines.
The rest is from bits here and there: in the gates of azyr short story theres a tribes of almost-feral men living as prey , constantly hunted by the horrors inhabiting the brimstone peninsula, a centuries long khorne-plagued land;
theres a short story about a apparentely normal village whose inhabitants souls are contested by chaos gods; in the silver gods novella the chaos barbarian literally BFO the stormcasts because "fuck sigmar, all we knew after all these centuries were the fucking chaos gods, not a feeble fable of a hammered god">>47516259
>Can wounds carry over to models not within range of melee wea
yes. You need the unit to be in range of the weapon-like, even only one model-but then the woundsaffects the whole unit.
pile in and longer melee weapons are pretty fine like they are now. Its still REALLY hard to have big units to attack wholly with short ranged weapons, so long range weapons still have a HUGE advantage.
best option, as usual, is to mix and match different weapons like a good general, with a solid front line of double weapons and a huge bacline of spears.

Hey Rat-boy, what you doin' up town?
Hey Rat-boy, you chasing our women around

Oh i beg-plead, it's not on my mind

Here he comes, he's all armoured in black
Three-eyed King, with a sharp-spikey hat

He's never quick-fast he always late
First thing you learn, you always gotta wait

Got my Warpstone, rush up three flights of stairs
Every chaos-thing pinned you, but no-body cares

He's got the works, give you best-best taste
Then you gotta scurry-flee, you got no time to waste

I'm waitin' for my man-thing

Don't you dare screech, don't you go 'n squeak or shout
I'm feeling good-good, you know i'm gonna work it out

I'm feelin nice-nice, yesss feel so-so fine.

I'm not sure, but it seems like they're toning down the original animosity and grudges of the setting. Looks like Tzeentchian sorcerers can buddy up with certain allies and even go traitor against their own ranks, Khorne champions can buddy up with Stormcast to cleave and smite a mutual foe, and alignments are a lot less uncompromising and stark in relation to each other.
>>
>>47525919
I think it's so you can do Your Dudes more, and have a fluff justification.
>>
>>47526005
Its not just fluff, there are chaos dwarf models in the fyreslayers

Picture related
>>
>>47526031
That's not a chaos dwarf.

Chaos dwarfs worship hashut and enslave other races. Fyreslayers don't enslave anyone and worship grimnir.

Sure that image may be a homage to chaos dwarfs, but a chaos dwarf he is not.
>>
>>47526201
Chaos Dwarves as a faction serve Chaos.

Some Chaos Dwarves (the race, not the faction) are with the Fyreslayers. The Ur-Gold sates their magic addiction, although it replaces it with an Ur-Gold addiction instead.

The Auric Runemaster model is a chaos dwarf (race, not faction).
>>
>>47526286
Ok, show me exactly where it says the Auric Runemaster is a chaos dwarf. Show me that.

Because as far as I read, the Auric Runemaster is a priest of grimnir. Chaos dwarfs have no grimnir worshipers.
>>
>>47526005

I'd like beastmen to get creatures more like satyrs and centaurs, then mix them in with the Wood Elves faction and Sylvaneth for a fey/beast/forest faction.
>>
>>47526286
Nice headcanon. Too bad it's not real canon.
>>
>>47526321
Look at the beard, it is a dead giveaway

Chaos Dwarves (ie: the political faction that died with the old world) don't serve Grimnir, but Chaos Dwarves (the subspecies of dwarves that survived the old world dying) can and do worship Grimnir as part of the Fyreslayers.

This is not a complicated concept

>>47526365
It's from the Fyreslayer Battletome
>>
>>47526329
That would honestly be really cool. Beastmen were always abortions anyway, and they haven't had any love. A Life grand alliance would be awesome. Wood Elves have always been murderous cunts, so Beastmen wouldn't even be too out of place.
>>
>>47526406
>Look at the beard, it is a dead giveaway
Like I said, the model may be a homage to chaos dwars, but that doesnt mean anything. If a warrior priest of sigmar has a beard in the same way, does that mean he's a chaos dwarf too?

Again, show me where in the fyreslayers battletome that supports your theory. These are not chaos dwarfs. If anything they are neutral dwarfs.
>>
>>47526460
Go fucking read the battletome, I'm not going to spoonfeed your stupid ass
>>
>>47526406
>It's from the Fyreslayer Battletome
No it isnt. Chaos dwarfs are dead. Some of the aesthetic may live on in the new fyreslayers line, but these are not chaos dwarfs.
>>
>>47526485
I've read the battletome. I'm reading it right now. And you are full of shit. The burden of proof is on you, buddy. Since you cannot provide anything, that is you pretty much admitting there is nothing to support your 'headcanon'.
>>
>>47526502
Yes it is.
Auric Runepriests are high priests of the Zharrgrim Priesthood, which was founded by Chaos Dwarves.

Where do you think the Fyreslayers learned about jamming magic metal into their flesh for power? That's the Chaos Dwarf modus operandi through and through

They aren't evil any more but they are absolutely descendants of the chaos dwarves from the old world

This is facetiousness, please ignore.

>>47526450

Exactly. Folding them into Wood Elves would give them a third theme to their faction, Beasts, Woods, and Elves, fleshing out the theme much more, and generally giving both factions more strength.

Although Wood Elves and Beastmen are kind of hugely opposed in previous fluff, though it's possible that while some continued on with Chaos, some were adopted by the Sylvaneth in the same manner as Wood Elves.

>>
>>47526563
What I would say is true is the fyreslayers have some elements inspired by the chaos dwarfs of old. Sort of the creator's way of tipping their hat to the dead faction.

What I would say is not true is believing the chaos dwarfs of old are connected to the fyreslayers faction. There is no indication of that anywhere.
>>
>>47526785
But they're not even dead! Chaos Dwarves are even getting new models for AoS.
>>
>>47527133
Cool. If that's true, then it even further shows a disconnect between the fyreslayers and the chaos dwarfs.
>>
If there are Chaos Dwarfs among them, where are the tusky teeths?
>>
>>47527220
Well, page 30 on the fyreslayers battletome does say that the auric runemasters are the heads of the ZHARRGRIM priesthood and the CHAOS DWARVES were referred as the DAWI ZHARR in Khazalid tongue. So yeah the relation is there.

I wouldnt go as far as to say their ancestors were Chaos dwarves Tho.

wounds isnt a good way to balance games, but it is a good way to gauge basic army sizes for those games. It's better than going by model count.
>>
>>47529598
The base level we've been running is two units a couple of heroes and a monster. Thats basically a start collecting box and one or two extra purchases depending on your army. How do people play such small wound counts when most of the centerpiece models are so massive? I find myself wanting to run like 100-150 wound battles but it seems the scene is way more tailored around tiny skirmish shit. Like for example I want to run everchosen (with on-horse archaon). How can you even have that function in a small game?
>>
>>47534838
Personally, I'm most comfortable around the 50 or 60 wound range. I feel like it's a good balance for the system.
>>

>>
>>47535047
>>47534838
We found anything that big felt kinda shitty, the way the rules are set up sigmar feels way more interesting with small skirmish games focused around objectives, the moment you have whole armies clashing it really starts to feel lame.

My favourite Simgar games so far have all been really small scale with like 2 units, 2 Hero/monster and 3 objectives spread out over the table with a lot of terrain. The synergy and combat aspects really start to matter a lot when you're both being forced to stretch what you have.
>>

100 wounds is not that terrible, I usually play with 80-100 wounds on the table and the game feels perfect. With one big model(12-15 wounds), 2-3 heroes you get 3 more units. Not too much stuff imho, you can get a game done in little more than one hour and it feels fun and you get full sinergies from the whole army.
In my area the most common format is 50 wounds tho, works pretty good but usually people play with one big model, a single unit and a support hero. Its fun but can become boring pretty soon unless you don't have acess to summons, because its usually the units clashing while he centerpieces wait for the best moment to strike.

All the paint looks really thick. No I'm serious.

I kinda like the fact the paint looks a little too thick in some spots, carved stuff wears with time and a little details is lost.

They're far from perfect but at least interesting.

Wait, when you say marble, you mean you want them to look as if they're made from marble? Not just a marble color scheme?

That may turn out pretty well then. Keep us posted.

I'm not that guy, I was just responding but I thought that was what he was going for.

I did the effect using multiple glazes of light grey/azure grey to cover the marble "stripes". After i did all the shadow, glazes and washes i did multiple drybrushes of pure white, as messier as possible. This covered a LOT of details giving it a more realistic effect.

I wanted to make it like their armour was made of marble, of it looked "kind of" it.
i hate the gold/metalic effect, i iked the "sanctity"idea around them and so I made something reminescent of statues of Saints from gothic europe. A lot of marble, a lot of gold. red and blue are there to add a bit of colour.

Thanks to everyone anyway! Its a scheme tought to be fast. Like this, i can complete the armour in around 1hr per model(not counting drying time of course)

Which is best - grave guard or tomb guard?

Grave
>>
>>47536144

One had old shitty derpy models and got squatted, so the choice is EZ.

I think tomb guard exit only in the app, so grave.
Also, grave has better models.
>>
>>47536711

You realize shill that the Grave Guard models are older sculpts than the TG?
>>
>>47536144
Would you rather have someone guard your grave, or your tomb?

Does anyone have the stats for the knight azyros? i bought the hero expansion and its utterly retarded that there are no cards for the heroes inside...

My dwarf grudge thrower mechanic killed a dragon with a wrench and won the game.

I wonder if the Darkoath Chieftain's extra dismembered Tzaangor head works on a CSM Sorcerer after filing the hand off?

So, after cramming all the board tiles, cards and markers back into the Silver Tower box, where should the assembled models go? Not sure if the Ogroid Thaumaturge can even stand in the box, not to mention the Gaunt Summoner. Aelf models are a trainwreck waiting to happen, especially if crammed back into the box.

I didn't even think of that. I have them on my display shelf.
