It's just a word with somewhat vague meaning, you can find it in the 36 Lessons and the Commentaries.

Or, in the case of Pelinal, his literal weapon hand.

It means weapon hand. It is hand used for wielding a weapon.
>>
>>47471002
> Or, you are the weapon of something.
More like you are an agent of something. AE GHARTOK PADHOME, CHIM AE ALTADOON would thus mean "I am the weapon-hand of change and royalty is the weapon"

>>47471254
I think we've discussed this before, but CHIM doesn't necessarily refer to the state of being, it is also Ehlnofex for "Royalty." The Amulet of Kings, Chim El-Adabal, doesn't have to do with the state of being, it's a symbol of royalty.
>>
>>47471316
That's not the point. The fact of the matter is that ESO just threw in a bunch of random ass useless elder scrolls labeled with 36 Lesson buzzwords because "MUH DEEP LORE"
It's incredibly out of place, and lacks any meaning. Just all around cringey as fuck.
The worst part is that redditors actually ate this up as 'muh CHIM confirmed!' yikes.

because it says chim :DDDD
>>
>>47471750
But it's been referenced in multiple games. It was confirmed the second someone said "CHIM" in Morrowind.
>>
>>47471940
But without confirmation in other games, the idea of chim is irrelevant and could be explained away by embellishment by those in power.
Of course a powerful figure, or three, would call themselves gods, and a writer like vivec would try and make up stories to justify his "right" to power.

Besides, I meant referencing the information in the sermons confirms they weren't just inane ramblings of a freak in a loincloth.
>>
>>47472030
Are you seriously implying that ESO lore is more credible than Morrowind one?
>>
>>47472183
>Are you seriously implying that ESO lore is more credible than Morrowind one?
I couldn't give two shits what's "credible" or not. But yes, eso is just as credible as morrowind as long as it doesn't directly contradict what's already established.
>>
>>47472030
Book 3 of Commentaries on the Mysterium Xarxes talks heavily about CHIM
>The Tower touches all the mantles of Heaven, brother-noviates, and by its apex one can be as he will. More: be as he was and yet changed for all else on that path for those that walk after. This is the third key of Nu-mantia and the secret of how mortals become makers, and makers back to mortals. The Bones of the Wheel need their flesh, and that is mankind's heirloom.
>CHIM. Those who know it can reshape the land. Witness the home of the Red King Once Jungled.
So if they needed more confirmation, it's there.
And if the Elder Scrolls contains the knowledge of CHIM, how would anyone read it without zerosumming?
>>
>>47472313
>people reading elder scrolls
lol no
http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Effects_of_the_Elder_Scrolls
>For one who has received no training in the history or nature of the Elder Scrolls, the scroll itself is, effectively, inert. No prophecy can be scried nor knowledge obtained.

>The knowledge they gain from the scroll is also tempered somewhat -- it requires stages of meditation and reflection to fully appreciate and express what one saw.
or
>hey spend their waking hours pondering the revelations, they also receive a further degree of mental fortitude
So it could be they either don't understand it enough to zero-sum, or they could possibly chim themselves.
Or, yes they could zerosum. But that's unlikely since it requires proper understanding, not just reading any part of the scroll like most monks do.

Because chim is a thing in tes universe that happened and could happen later.
>>
>>47473269

>>
>>47473281
Because elder scrolls are a "historical document declaring the unequivocal truth of a past event."
http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Lost_Histories_of_Tamriel
If the event involved chim somehow, and many do, the scroll would "Archive" the information.
There is no reason to believe the chim scroll doesn't include all of chim, including the state, unless trolling for responses.
>>
>>47473230
If it's evolved Reman worship, where the fuck is the jungle? Where an Imperial walks, monkey grass should grow, but it does not, only mundanity. Talos usurped Ald Tam! Trade is a lot more believable symbol than slavery, especially for a group that prides themselves as the center of trade in Morrowind.
Yes, I know, the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Dres is slavery, but do you really think that's going to be the first thing that a Dres would want to describe themselves as? That the entire Houses greatest source of pride is in the fact that the enslave people, and not, perhaps, in the fact that they try to uphold the oldest aspects of Dunmer culture?
No that's fucking ridiculous. It just makes the Dres look like a bunch of fucking edgelords.
>>
>>47473344

Talos is Lorkhan Reborn. This is actually some big fucking news. Talos is going to become the New Lorkhan in the next Convention. He is fucking important. For nords this means that Shor is now not dead anymore, for Shor made a new Son, who is also Shor.
>>
>>47473433
They share a name because, apparently, in ESO, the scrolls are named in Ehlnofex. CHIM is a word in Ehlnofex. That's it.

The Chim-el Adabal doesn't have anything to do with CHIM the state either.

No?
Okay yeah that's stupid.

To be honest though I can't honestly remember that many members of house Dres who are terribly ashamed about what they do. They seem pretty matter of fact about it. Perhaps when they first took up the symbol it was more practical since there was a good period where pretty much most of the dark elves were just fine with slavery. It may have seemed like the equivalent of having a dairy farm with a cow for the symbol.
>>
>>47473526
> Well, there is no next Convention though. But still, yeah.
Only in C0DA. And C0DA is explicitly not canon, it makes canon null and void. Bethesda could however do a TES reboot in the new Kalpa.
>>

>>
>>47473549
>I can't honestly remember that many members of house Dres who are terribly ashamed about what they do
I'm not saying they are ashamed of what they do, just that it's not going to be something they adamantly believe describe themselves as to the point where the symbol of their entire culture is a pair of shackles. I mean really, who in their right mind would portray themselves through symbols of bondage and captivity? Not only does it give off an odd connotation when regarding the actually free people of the nation, but it implies that the House people view slavery as something greater than themselves.
It lacks a lot of imagination.

Tiber Septim is the will of Cyrodiil, just as Reman was Cyrodiil before him.
People may have wanted jungles back in Reman's time, but things change, and Talos saw that change come true. Tiber Septim is a New Cyrodiil, one who saw to the needs of the modern Cyrodiils. Reman is the old jungled Cyrodiil, who the people likewise abandoned.

Who are the most lore rich race?
The least?
>>
Whelp, I tried giving /r/teslore a shot.

From all it looks like and how people talk to each other, it is definitely not about TES, or TES lore. Just trying to make up random bullshit, attach a few TES lore words, then shout your fanfiction to explain a question incorrectly despite there already being an answer in an in-game book or no reason to even assume it, and if you point out that there is a real answer, everyone throws a fit because they were wrong for not even trying to look up an answer.

How the hell do some of you actually support this? Hell, some parts of Reddit are alright-ish to pretty good, but this is pretty much the cancer people think of when they think of Reddit.

Either Dunmer, Redguards, Khajiit, or Nords. Most likely Dunmer.

The least is Argonians. I feel they were meant to not have a lot of lore and be mysterious, though.
Bretons haven't really been fully fleshed out either, which is a real shame.

Dunmer

Lilmothiit
>>

>>

Breton, Dunmer, Nord in Skyrim.
>>
>>47480458
>What race do most of you play?
Depends on what I want to do. Dunmer witch hunter, Breton knight, and Nord crusader have been my last 3.
My favorite is Dunmer though. Liked them since Morrowind. Probably the case for most of us here.
>>
>>47480458
Bretons mainly, since they're my favorite race and have great stats, but I play Altmer and Dunmer as well.

I like playing mages with a focus on alchemy, but I normally use some melee and armor on top of it, as well as pretty good speech skills.
>>
>>47480458
Nord always, except in Morrowind.
>>
>>47480467
Really?

I feel we know a lot about Khajiit, especially considering we have that one book in skyrim that I can't pronounce, we understand Elsweyr cooking, Skooma and Moon Sugar, the different types of Khajiit, the Lunar Lattice, Khajiit religion, Khajiit religious figures, their view on Lorkhan, how their society is structured, how Elsweyr is divided into two drastically different parts, how they were even on the moon, etc.

While Imperials have a lot of stuff covered, I would say Khajiit have them beat, even if by a margin.
>>
>>47480819
I don't know, we know pretty much all of that about Imperials too, from the two split cultures to the being in the moon, plus dozens of rulers and emperors. To be honest, I couldn't name any Khajiit rulers.

We know about dozens of Cyrodiilic cults, why the cults exist, and the multiple religions they've had. Even their dietary restrictions, plus how they came from the Nedes (and we know a whole bunch of their tribes) and Nords. There are multiple books dedicated to many of their most famous rulers, from religious texts, scholarly histories, to fiction.

That still barely scratches the surface of what we know.

Hi guys,

Last week I mentioned gming a savage worlds campaign in the elder scrolls world, basically playing Arena, but more detailed and tabletoppy

I'm fleshing a couple things out at the moment, and what I'm struggling with is that two of the players are Khajiit, which brings the following:

How the fuck am I going to handle them going into Valenwood, considering the war between the bosmer and Elsweyr. I'm basing most of my descriptions of surroundings in that area of The Dance in Fire (fun read btw) but still, I'm stumped about how to handle non Cathay-Raht Khajiit in there.

Any ideas?

Something you should learn is just because the country is at war does not mean the people are.
I'm sure the bosmer enjoy skooma just as much as anyone else, and there's some kind of slave trade for their beautiful women. With people apparently having connections when they leave valenwood, like Niruin in skyrim thieves guild, it's just a matter of fidning the right people instead of working with the "official" channels.
There's also probably those who simply don't care, probably older elves who are too wise to care about petty squabbles like war.

Might sound stupid to my current understanding of it but as far as know, Amaranth is when an entity of the current universe becomes the godhead in the universe right? >>

/r/teslore is basically dead at this point. There were some awesome scholars there, but it is all gone now. RottenDeadite doesn't give a crap anymore, IceFireWarden decided to go full Numidium and to delete all of his works, because of some IRL stuff, MareloRyan left, scourgicus writes for his Khajiitc0daverse, mojo sometimes visits /r/teslore, but he doesn't seem to give a fuck anymore, etc. And MK also seems do not give a fuck about TES anymore, he now works for Telltale. The community being, at least in the lore department, weakened sort of bothers me.
Especially since I feel like we've lost all connection to the devs. What TES really needs right now is a dev that gives a shit. I don't mean to say that Todd doesn't give a shit about making products that sell well, or that the artists don't care about making cool shit.
Say what you want about MK, but at the very least he cared about the world of TES, and about the fans. Go look at Goodall and it was the same thing. He didn't need to write interviews, forum posts and extra stuff, but he did because he cared. I know Kuhlmann is still there, but otherwise I don't know about any of the devs that are in contact with the community or seem to truly care. And Kuhlmann is pretty silent these days.
This isn't the typical kind of doomsaying, and I don't have a lot of issues with the games getting more "casual". Worse gameplay is bad, but it's not the most important for me anymore. The lore is.
Add in that a lot of the better writers in the community seem to have gone away, and we get the times we're currently in.

Things don't have to get worse. TES is popular, and it's not like we're on the brink of a death of either the community or the series.
I just don't think things are going to get more fun or more interesting. I hope I'm wrong.
>>

I'm not too suprised by the lack of dev talk. When Morrowind was coming out, I don't think anyone expected for it to get as big as it did. Bethesda had been doing well enough, but Morrowind is where it really boomed. And notice how a lot of the easter eggs worked into the game were forum jokes and stuff like Eltonbrand. This was personal, niche. They had a core of dedicated fans that they knew were going into the game, and would be excited for it.

It's not that the easter eggs got lamer in later games - I liked how one Oblivion easter egg was basically encouraging the player to explore - but it wasn't the niche community thing anymore. Oblivion and Skyrim on consoles, not just computers, and had a much larger audience to try and please, and that means a lot less of a personal touch. Half the players wouldn't understand fishysticks, and how many casual fans do you think would really care enough about the lore to track down forum posts and really read most of the in-game books? Many of the easter eggs were literature references and such instead. Bethesda had to 'dumb things down' as they widened their scope, and that's just an unfortunate fact.
>>
You know what's odd? This book: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Special_Flora_of_Tamriel

Many of these plants that were supposedly native to other regions appeared in Oblivion and Skyrim, and Ironwood Nuts did appear in Oblivion and not in Skyrim.

More Thalmor stuff, less shit about PC being the chosen one, etc. Morrowind had the best main quest, Bethesda should just learn more from it.

Either Hammerfell or the whole Aldmeri Dominion. First option is of course the most likely. Elsweyr is another good candidate.
