Yeah, this one time I had an npc in my group that liked everyone else but me, and really looked down on my character.
It was an Eberron game which highlighted the appearance of Kyber and the Mourning. Basically anything this mqgical light shined on got discintegrated or undeadified.
The Npc had a locked gauntlet prosthetic Guts style from Berserk, and was my Paladin mentor.
Come to find out that during the blast I predictably tried to sacrifice myself to save the party, but lost an arm in the process and got thrown through time and needed to quantum leap style my way through past mistakes.
mfw I realized the npc mentor I had at the beginning was myself from the future. And to think, it all started as a routine cave exploration.
