This is a oneshot taking place in the snowy reaches of Alaska, in a peculiar little town known as Meadow-Harbor. Superstition abounds in these neck of the woods, with mysterious and ancient glyphs sighted in numerous nearby areas. There's an old man who's determined to not let any meddlers get inadvertently injured or killed, even if he has to stop them 'for their own good'. The only ally available to you is the local camp counselor. Will you be able to take down the monster that's been stalking this remote and snowy locale for centuries, or will you end up as another meal for it to scrounge on?

Still looking for three more players.

I've posted before, and tried to game with people before but they either immediately lose interest, have other shit they're doing, or ask 10,000 questions and try to control the game.

One guy tried to start playing and then immediately had a week long trip he was taking.

Be aware it's a serious campaign, so joke characters won't be permitted.

a few things of note:

the setting is post apocalyptic sci-fantasy Europe, starting in Italy. Sort of Weird War One/Two. I've taken my favorite parts of history and made them all happen at the same time, for what I assume to be reasons.

There's no magic in setting, only absurdly advanced technology that everyone's forgotten how to use and/or build.

Nonhumans are fine, as are special snowflake backstories so long as I get to talk with you about them.

This isn't going to be overly combat based, although there's going to be some problems that can only be solved with violence.

2.0, though most of the gear will be refluffed, and ghouls/super mutants/ect won't quite apply. All you really need to know is your SPECIAL, traits, and skills.
>>
>>47468526
I thought there was just the fan stuff ever since that law suit? Like my fallout nerd friend tried to run a campaign using it but it basically didn't exist and we had to put up with the fan made thinf. I don't knowhat system you're referring too honestly but it sounds bretty leggit
>>
>>47468575
yeah, basically this system's "use the core mechanics and steal and refluff gear so I don't have to stat things out"

2.0 just has some more gear statted out, fanstuff, so this works well for me. so long as you have 1.0 it'll all work.

I'm running a one shot in Chromestrike at 4pm (1600 EST), so about two hours from now. Making this last minute post because I was going to try a new guy with my regular group but he fell off the face of the Earth at the last minute and with no warning.

The system is really easy to learn and I even have premade builds ready to go if you don't want to dick with making your own mech on such short notice. As long as you're into mecha and can handle some mild crunch then you're good. I even got macros and shit to make things simpler. My games are also rated anime/10 so if you can't handle weeb shit then you might not like it. You'll also have to put up with retarded unfunny inside jokes because the rest of the group has been gaming together for a pretty long time.

The system can be found here: https://www.mediafire.com/?edq473gxeglsg27

Never played a pnp RPG in my life, unless you count when I was 10 trying to play adnd with other 10 year olds, which went about as well as you'd expect. I wanna give it a shot, and there's no chance I'm getting a group in real life because of location reasons.

I'm an Ausfag, so GMT +10. Currently avaliable any time between 10AM and midnight, pretty much. Tuesdays and Wednesdays I can't play until about 5PM, though.

Ideally looking for something pretty roleplay focused, but I guess that's nearly everyone in these threads. Much prefer to do the actual IC roleplay via text, and leave the voice chat (if there is one) for OOC banter and rules stuff.

Well to be fair he was presented with a player he didn't know, who supposedly told another player to ignore him.
The fact that that never happened wasn't something he considered.

GURPS or Dark Heresy or something homebrew, I dunno, something that'd fit for this.

>Availability/timezone
EST. Honestly my hours are fucked up so probably whatever will work.

>Contact
Skype available if there's interest. Will probably use IRC or something to actually game though.

>Misc.
The general idea I have in mind is essentially a Homefront/Resistance/Freedom Fighter/Red Dawn style game. Players are resistance fighters that lead a growing cell of resistance fighters against an occupying force in the US -- likely Chinese or even something similar to the Advent from XCOM 2. Players have to fight against the occupiers in the face of increasingly harsh restrictions and controls, try to gather up assets and muster support, and generally dismantle the invader's machine from the inside out.

Thoughts? Opinions? Kinda looking for a big personal focus but with strategic/squad-level action.
>>
>>47502270
Twilight 2013 seems like it'd be perfect for this. Emphasis is on "realistic" modern combat and survival in the post-apocalypse, which can be easily adapted to this concept.

That said it's not the type of game I go for. Best of luck.
>>
>>47502270

If it's the group i think it is, i did two things:
-i was a pacifist, and disgusted by gore
-i couldn't let go of the GM knowing me and not telling me from where, and me not having any idea who he was.

I'll admit that last bit was probably pretty annoying for the other people in the group, but the situation was at least as annoying for me.
And the other Cody was someone from the central US, if i recall correctly, but i wasn't here for the shitstorm, so i don't know why people were mad at him. I only heard about him admitting that he had been a shit as player and GM and saying he changed.
Haven't heard anything from or about him since.

I on the other hand am from Germany, and have consistently failed to even get into a group.

That's some ridiculously bad luck if you're not conveniently leaving some self incriminating parts out. You're either playing shitty systems that attract bad players/GMs or you're more of a that guy than you think you are.

On the subject of gamefinder experiences:

Game 1
>new to the hobby, don't know anything about tabletop or where to start
>into anime, so join an AdEva game
>the scheduling is terrible and inconsistent and the pacing is even worse, game dies after about two sessions
>the GM turned out to be that one notorious AdEva GM that always flakes (Dis/Beck Near/LCD/a million other names) so it was doomed from the start anyway

Game 2
>did some other /tg/ things and started finally getting into the hobby for real
>Still wanted to play AdEva though, looked for another game
>Go through character creation, everything seems cool
>game gets delayed a million times by random stuff
>the excuses for the delays get progressively weird to the point where the GM even claimed he was in prison at one point
>game finally starts
>"Wait a moment, that NPC..."
>it's fucking Lt Commander Morgenstern
>yeah, that same blind motherfucker from the last game (who was admittedly an alright NPC)
>realize I've been rused and that it's the same GM using a different name
>still really curious about this Morgenstern guy, he seemed interesting the last game too
>I would like to know more.jpg
>try and stick it out just to see if the game will go anywhere and if my questions will ever be answered
>it dies before the first scene of the game can even be finished (the scene in question was just the kids getting off a helicopter and being driven to the base. This took about 3-4 sessions to get halfway done because of how bad the pacing was, and the game ended before the car ride even finished because everyone got fed up with it over the couple months it took IRL)

Other than that I've had pretty decent experiences from the gamefinder, even found my regular group from people here.
>>

Well, i am a difficult person to deal with, i can get incredibly hung up on details, but the only time that actually mattered at all was when the GM was speaking like a weird horror trope in OOC and the other time when someone knew me and i didn't know them.

>>47504381
That's actually not true, neither did i know it was a dungeon crawler beforehand, since i joined after most of you, and after i found out i specifically made a second character JUST for fighting, so it would suit the game and your playstyle. Do you want me to post the logs?

>>
>>47505899
Ask questions. Like, a lot.
Asking them about their past games or if they have any strongs dislikes has worked well for me. Expect any game freely described as sandbox/intrigue/grim and gritty to fail (especially if they are all together) and make sure to ask the GM their influences. Also ask their strong points and weaknesses.
For players, knowing about their past experiences is most important- characters and whatever happened with their former group. Ask them what they want to play(especially before you explain what kind of game you want to run)
Novice players tend to be best, but they arent self-aware as experienced players, so you need to steer them a bit to match the tone of the game.

It just a trend you notice when you've seen enough of them. Those three genres are difficult to do right, so most people who attempt them tend to fail, usually because they dont understand what each of those things mean and only want to emulate HBO's GoT.
Its not impossible to do right, but its easy to do wrong.

Runt of the litter is one thing, but when you're the punching bag of the tribe is the same, but you got ten times as many siblings. That's what Quiz'ed was, nobody wanted to do anything with him because by some fate he was the, 'odd one.' While everyone else were risking their lives by raiding caravans or villages, Quiz'ed was stuck with the boring chores back home. But when one raid got the tribe a bunch of guns, Quiz'ed was the first to figure them out.
He learnt how they worked, how they ticked, which part went where. Eventually he expanded his experience with machines in general with other gadgets and small house-hold devices that his tribesmen got from their work.
But he was still the punching bag, nobody ever really cared for him or gave him credit, so he had enough of it and set out - determined that if he wasn't big enough for his own family and "loved ones," then the rest of the world was definitely small enough for him.
Gunslinger is a class in Pathfinder: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/gunslinger

There's a table for firearms here:
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/firearms

A Goblin can get a feat that lets them use medium sized guns without penalties.

The problem with gamefinder, in my experience as a GM, is that generally the people posting here aren't already in a group for a reason.

Games with good players and GMs generally have very low turnover. Games with shitty GMs or shitty players tend to fall apart very quickly, and back into the gamefinder pool they go.

still looking for game currently, there seems to be a lack of GMs running 40k systems in general (and DH2e in particular).

Which is sad because as soon as you pitch reasonable homebrew, people run for the hills. And then complain that all they get are RAW aspies.

Self-defeating nonsense, I tell you.

When you put yourself out there without selling yourself, you come off as a guy who has nothing to bring to a group aside from a warm body and an unknown host of terrible habits.

As a GM, I sometimes come here to look for people to fill in a slot or two, if my regular group, and their own recommendations don't fill a game's positions.

Tell us about yourself and your gaming past! Tell us about what kinds of things you like.

How else are we supposed to know you're decent?
>>
>>47530347
I do this stuff by verbal interview pre-joining. I also tend to make people wait for a day or two before doing this to see how many times they'll pester me in the intervening hours. Ability to write about yourself isn't always the best indicator.

I first picked up a D&D book when I was 8 years old with 3rd edition dungeons and dragons. Me and my elder brother used to play dungeons and dragons in the lunch room at my moms company where she works as a comprehensive toxicologist. After that I didn't play dungeons and dragons until after highschool (well pathfinder) where I DM'd for a small group of friends. A combination of friends joining the military/drifting away lead to the group disbanding and local play is no longer an option. Truth be told I'm looking forward to online play more than local play. I find that with local play a lot of the time is spent socializing/catching up with friends/traveling/waiting for people ect. Which is fine, but with my local group I would have liked to get in more gameplay.

I'd prefer to play D&D 4e, 5e, or Pathfinder. I'd also play GURPS. I'd be open to trying 3.5, or 2nd edition D&D. I genuinely want people to have a good time and I do arrive at the table trying to be a better gamer and roleplayer every night.

I've never really played a game online before but I am familiar with installing applications and troubleshooting issues regarding getting stuff to work. I have been using voice chat for online games for a little over a decade now and I prefer Ventrilo but I also have used Teamspeak, Mumble, Skype, and Discord.

I haven't played enough to really develop a prefered style of play but I'd say I'm not very good at creating very technically good characters. I however am good at always approaching the world as if it were a real world and trying to interact with it in that sort of way.

The game is about the inheritance of the player characters - they are all distantly related to a fallen noble house and will set out to restore it. To this end, the players will need to reclaim and rebuild their estate.

I'm interested in what players will do with power and influence, and the progression will be pretty fast, so expect a high power level. I want people to be researching new technologies and spells and such not that long after the start.

That said, the primary setting is itself very rustic and rural. The world is very big and wild, and the player estate is on the fringes of civilization.

I don't like the gamist principles that govern D&D, and there will be several departures from those conventions in this game. You will not earn experience by defeating enemies, for one.

I'd prefer to do the game with both text and voice, with people free to use whatever they feel most comfortable with.

I don't even know what happened but it definitely sounds like you're full of shit. Here's my imaginative take on what happened:

>Find a game
>Game clearly isn't as good as a game I'd run, if I were ever to run one
>I'm a writer
>Write a stunning backstory about Magnus, hero of the north, champion of the dragon riders tribe, married to an elven princess.
>DM says my backstory conflicts with the world's lore
>Read: DM is jealous of my writing ability and wants to ruin art out of jealousy
>Decide to ignore the clear fact that he's a total fucking tyrannical asshole and continue
>Lament my misfortune on 4chan, because I'm a writer
>Like all the other idiots in my life, they just didn't get me
>Character is so stunningly perfect that the small minded masses naturally reacted with shock and fear, attacking it like mortals with a wounded God

I hope this is bait but it's fun nonetheless

>Get in promising 5e game
>Get along well with everyone for the most part
>Roll fighter GM gives me really generous introduction as the leader of a mercenary company
>Martial campaign, mass combat encounters

>Things going great until two or three sessions in
>Classic case of under-respected DM, players get kind of snarky with him sometimes
>Have a hard time telling whose voice belongs to whom
>An Anime gets brought up in conversation
>GM loves this one anime
>Me and all the players casually shit all over it. (Them, being disrespectful, and me, being honest)
It really wasn't fair, I'm not even into anime, I'd just happened to have seen a few episodes of this one and saw fit to enter the conversation.
>GM's salt is palpable, feel kinda bad
>Later my character falls in a fight with a troll
>Fail first death save or two, however it works in that system
>On the brink of death, player about to save me with heals on his turn
>Tells me I have to roll death saves at the end of the turn order, not on my turn
>wat
>Cautiously attempt to debate the issue, players side with me but ganging up on the DM only made it worse
>DM clearly still in a bad mood, was probably waiting for a chance to knock one of us off and it just happened to be me who fell
>My character officially dies
>Didn't really care for that. Started to make a new one but said fuck it, I don't feel like playing
>Miss a few sessions, eventually resign from the campaign
Despite the bullshit, the DM seemed like a nice guy and I didn't have the heart to tell him that this drove me out of the campaign, so I told him I just had shit going on.
>He clearly feels bad asks me if it was because of my character dying
>"Nah man, I just have a lot of stuff going on! Love to play in the future!"
I think he messaged me a few months later asking if I would like to play again, I said I wouldn't be able to, but he probably knew. Feel guilty even talking about it lol

It was actually worse. He made his lesbian waifu witch hunter mary sue based off Bible Black.
And the GM was patient enough to tell him to read it all, tell him to shorten it and put it in line with the Kara-tur setting instead of flat-out rejecting it and calling him a faggot.

So he had a chance to play his character, but he refused to compromise like an autistic shit
>>
>>47538012
>And the GM was patient enough
The more I hear this story, the more I feel that other party is guilty too. Don't know if you're GM or the guy who spams dozen replies to one post every thread.
>>
>>47538181
>I feel that other party is guilty too
What exactly did that DM do other than say 'no' to a bad character and and correct someone's passive aggressive bitching in the thread?
>>
>>47538181
Neither. Im a player in that GM's game. May be biased because of that, but the conversation logs (posted here on /tg/) are quite clear that the player did not want to compromise or rework his character on the grounds of "you already read it so you might as well use it"
I wouldnt have even read a 5-page long backstory of a premade character based off european fantasy when im running an asian-themed game(thats like coming with a premade Samurai on a game based off the Matter of Britain) and i think most people wouldn't either. The GM actually wanted to give him a chance at first.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
>>
>>47538280
>>47538181
they were constantly shitting on each other in the thread. and the GM posted a link to his character and namedropped him.
and actually neither of them did anything particularly wrong.
i doubt the GM was intentionally trying to reveal that info, and the first post made by the guy wasn't particularly salty,

it was just a misunderstanding and the rest of the people in the gamefinder blew it so out of proportion that the two got really agressive

the first post made by the guy was just expressing his bewilderment about being told to cut the story shorter without any reason given. he also stated that he would gladly rewrite the story to fit the campaign
the gm also didn't tell the guy to cut part of his story, he just said, he'd like it more if it was shorter.
all in all typical drama bullshit where people get needlessly outraged over absolutely miniscule stuff
>>
>>47539680
>without any reason given
Except the "more in line with the setting" thing that you can look over the logs and see for yourself.

>he also stated that he would gladly rewrite the story to fit the campaign
Nope, said he wanted to keep it because he already wrote it and called the GM "lying subhuman scum" when it was clear there was no malicious editing . Don't believe it? The posts are still in the archive:
>>47410514

>the gm also didn't tell the guy to cut part of his story, he just said, he'd like it more if it was shorter.
Actually he wanted both: Short and setting appropriate. Dude's only response to shortening was "why?.

The guy read none of the setting material, admitted it in the logs, and then got indignant when the GM wanted to modify the idea, even when the whiny dude said "(but I have a high likelihood of having to abandon due to your setting)". In the thread guy then proceeded to shit all over, the only justification he had for being mad about being asked to shorten was "he already read it"

The bottom line on the matter is this: >>47538012
>>
>>47541594
>in line with the setting
yes and it's completely understandable if someone doesn't understand how simply shortening instead of rewriting it would be more in line with the setting

>Nope, said he wanted to keep it
That is actually not true. he both stated it himself, and it's in the paste of the discussion

>Actually he wanted both: Short and setting appropriate
that's also not true. read the actual logs posted and not the outrage later on

this was my entire point there was nothing in the logs that warranted such a reaction from either side.

>and then got indignant when the GM wanted to modify the idea
not true
are you blind or do you just read things selectively.
>the only justification he had for being mad about being asked to shorten was "he already read it"
he didn't get mad about it, he was confused in his initial post. Look at the reaction image. he got mad when people jumped him in true /tg/ fashion, and even more when the GM accidentally revealed his name and character sheet.
>>
>>47541594
It would also probably generally help if you and everyone else on /tg/ didn't immediately assume anyone they so much as SEEM to disagree with to be a complete and utter retard and general asshole.

The GM just wanted to run a nice campaign, and he got shat on and insulted by that player and some people in the thread.

The player just wanted to have a reason why shortening the text was necessary, and got shat on by the entire thread, had his character openly mocked, and his chat handle revealed.

All this because of a chat that wasn't even remotely this dramatic.
I suddenly understand a lot better why it's so difficult to find a good game here.
>>
>>47543050
>I suddenly understand a lot better why it's so difficult to find a good game here.
Because real lives are hectic and busy at the best of times, and an impersonal setting like an online TTRPG isn't something that takes priority in the minds of the majority who are interested enough to try it?
>>
>>47544134
That would be finding a game at all.
No i thought more along the lines, of:
Because people assume too negative things, too much and too fast, and if anything is not EXACTLY the way they think things should be they get hostile, even if it doesn't really concern them all that much, which additionally puts of a lot of people who then don't try particularly hard to find anything here.

>lesbian

RED FLAG, PLAYER DROPPED

I have never known a single male player who has made a lesbian character who was not fucking terrible.
>>
>>47544907
What if it's a lesbian reverse trap and it never gets mentioned because it never becomes relevant?
>>
>>47544994

Generally speaking, I have lengthy pre-game discussions about backstory and motivation before a game begins, so I can weave in story hooks, and ensure a character is grounded in the world, and those kinds of things shake out at that point.

I totally -did- have a reverse trap in my last game. And it was handled well(though sexuality never went into it, as she just wasn't looking for romance)
>>
>>47545024

See, if it's an aside thing, like the least interesting or important part of the character, it's not the worst thing in the world to see. If it's all fleshed out and not just 'yeah it's a dude with his junk tucked under' for no reason except declaration.
