I'd say necrons. The nids can wipe out the rest of the galaxy and would never touch the necrons.

I suppose this thread is all about potential, though, since the races are supposed t be balanced. The necrons have assloads of potential, especially if all are awoken and united. They have the tech to kill stars, gods, and star gods, plus are soulless and warp-resistant.

Resistant as far as the cannot be corrupted. Sure, they get fucked over by psykers big time on the table sometimes, but fluff-wise the warp really doesnt present much of a threat. The most damage done by the warp happened when the eye of terror swallowed entire unawakened tomb worlds, and even then it barely dented their numbers.

Actually, the codex says that this is a passing phase and that it's the clumsy first steps of an awakening giant. It states the Necron are rapidly uniting and wakening.

According to the 5th ED codex, Necron infighting rarely happens outside politics. The see fighting other Necrons as a drag and ultimately pointless. Only the most desperate of Necron lord would send his armies against his kindred.

You can ally anyone with anyone now. Regular Tau Empire are Come the Apocalypse (lowest alliance level) with Chaos Daemons, and Desperate Allies (second lowest) with Chaos Space Marines, and Farsight Enclaves count as Tau Empire for alliance purposes. Unless the recent update to the supplement changed that.

1st Strongest = Chaos, but most of Chaos' power is confined to the immaterium. Only some of it is able to escape through warp storms, the Eye of Terror, and horrors summoned by Chaos' servants.

2nd Strongest = Eldar. Eldar could take over the galaxy right now. The problem is Slaanesh is personally hunting them down, once he knows where they are he will send everything he has at them and Slaanesh draws from the power of trillions upon trillions of Eldar souls already. Every time an Eldar dies, Slaanesh eats their soul (bar soul stone intervention) and grows in power. Until Slaanesh is dispersed they must stay in hiding.

3rd Strongest = Either Necrons or Tyranids. Both are very high threats with a lot of power.

Then there's everyone else mucking about pretending they're worth a shit.

Space Marines. Proportionately they're superior to everything, and just a thousand of them are able to accomplish insane shit like conquer entire planets or turn back Necron forces. Their only weakness is being limited to just a million.

Orks are the strongest race, they are just splintered as fuck, so the strongest faction is humanity. if the orks were to ever stop infighting and unite then they would easily win. this has been stated numerous times in the fluff,
as it stands humanity is top, but the setting is that humanity holding the line for a few more seconds. They also have the whole "Primarchs are going to return at any moment" thing to "restart the great crusade"

They are so many, so resilient, so single minded that pretty much all factions admit that should they unite completely, they would steamroll the whole galaxy with minimal effort.

They can outnumber tyranids, outfight the Imperium and outspike chaos.

Should the green tide arise, all other races would be swept away by pure orkyness. Not to mention they are the only race that has already 'won' Warhammer 40k. Propa foight all 'round

omg, the bias is real.
the real order as far as strongest to "weakest" goes:
1. chaos, up side, they really cant be beaten because they exist in anonther universe, if the champion is really good the are unkillable, a single greater demon can destroy an entire planet. down side, its really really hard to get out of that universe and they can only spend a limited amount of time away from the warp.
2. ork, the largest race as far as warriors are concerned and the most wide spread, every ork is a warrior, there is no women and children, just boyz that like a scrap. downside, they like fighting each other as much as they like fighting everything else.
3. tyranid, second only to the orcs in size, but far more dense, the orks are on almost every planet, the tyranids have fleets so big that they blot out all ways of communicating, as well as overwelming the fight with large numbers, but they are only on the fringes of the galaxy, closing in though. downside, dont cope well with wars of attrition, they always need to eat.
4. humans, the most versatile race and there is allot of them, third largest race, you dont see any chaos eldar, tyrannies, or orks. humans are good at just about everything,, they are built for endurance in fights and have the most variance in technology (ironically). they have teams built to speacilse in killing anything. downside, good at everything, but easily corruptible for the most part and dont excell at any one thing on mass, a little on the frail side.
5. necrons, almost unkillable robots, they regenerate and have great tech, in fcat they 100% completed science, they have the best tech bar none, they have a device which litterally turns of suns. downside, they are not fully awake yet, menaing they are probably just larger than the eldar, its unknown how big they are as a race, probably not as big as orcs or tyrnaids, but maybe humans.

6. eldar, super fast and awesome at killing shit, they prefer not to be seen, focusing on long range but quite good at killing short range too, they are an old race and every one is a psyched with allot of experiance behind them before they go out into battle.downside, they are frail and afraid of death, with good reason, a god will rape them for a million years if they dont die properly, also there is fuck all of them since they ruined the universe.
7. dark eldar, exeptional at close range, they want you to see them and remeber their face, they will torture you for a hundreds years, litterally feeding off you. they dont like killing, only because they can feed of you, but they are very good at it when they need to. same downsides as elder, exepct there is even less of these guys.
8. tau. great at shooting things and thats about it. there is almost none of them when it comes to bench marking, arn't really considered a threat, their empire is only a handfull of planets. humans kill their own planets just for tax money. they have awesome tech, but are utterlly blown away (as far as fluff is concerned) when it comes to every race. on the table top they are a force to be reconed with.

Orks are not as strong as you give them credit for, due to their organization, or lack thereof.

Tyranids aren't second to anyone in size. They're as large as the amount of biomass they have access to.

Eh. Humans are the underdogs. Specifically written that way with inferior technology, inferior genetics and bigger weaknesses than other races. There are a lot of them around though, I'll give you that. Their empire is also in a crumbling regression.

Necrons are at least twice the size of humans. Do not know if it says exactly anywhere the size in existence or awake.

Eldar empire is dying faster than humans with numbers between the Tau and Humans
