Okay, we are back. I have some hours to kill, so lets play.

Last time, Destiny Landing had been raided by unknowns, however thanks to great defence we won and slaughtered them. They will not come back for a while.

We know that there somewhere is a tribe of Dvaris and some Svejas, but not more. We discovered leather armor last.

The wisest men have with curiosity noted that herb, berries and other things of nature does different thing for mankind. They start collecting notes and discovers that some of them can have a healing effect on people, and as such the art of medicine and herbalism is born. People have now treatment for many of the diseases, creating a population boom.

There are still many things that medicine can not cure, but at least now there is a basis of medicine.

You decides to cross the ocean, knowing that somewhere far away the empire that threw you away is. However, by the time you reach your Point of no return, you see land on the horison. You decide to turn around and report it to the elders.

At home, the Ferris have given us the knowledge of better ironswords, creating the longsword and the concept of shields. Your soldiers can now defend themselves better in war.

In Ferris the elder ones tell that south is plain fields and that the only way to cross the mountain is at the Doomspass, However, the Svejas have built a fortress pass there, controlling the traffic. The Ferris tells that they are guarded by atleast 300 soldiers and is a small city by itself.

As the desire for knowing about the rest of the world increased, the need for a exploration corps was clearly known. As such the tribal council gathered the greatest of the bloodriders and established the Ex-corps. 35 men and women given the mandate to explore and find out about the world around them. Stationed in the two outposts their only mission was to map the world. However, there would still be opportunities for the Council to make a greater effort.

As a indirect result the militia that protected Ferris was incorporated into the sword man corps. Efficiently disbanding them.

Your theological council looked upon the person caught by a swordman. They saw him cut the throat of man half his age. The penalty was severe. It was death. The convicted man shouted out to hear all over the halls when he was sentenced.
"By what right do you condem me to my fate, what makes my fate worse when people of similar action does not recive the same?"

The question burned into the minds of the council. There needed to be control of the city. Justice was needed. So they sat down, and wrote down the laws of their civilization. A code of laws that will guarantee justice and equality for all. They called it "Magna Tarta"

To promote this they built another hall next to the great hall of their forefathers. The hall of justice. From here the only person that could kill another person was sentenced. And as such a new day was born. A day of justice.

Realising the danger, you builders erect a wall around Ferris. From the knowledge of building walls they make it big enough and with palisades that can hold longbow shooters. Their lack of more detailed knowledge though makes the gatepost unstable, it will not withstand anymore than a couple of rounds with a ram. However, the odds are much better now than before.

You as the commander of Ferris know that the Svejas will reach Ferris before DL. You take a look at your forces. 105 swordsoldiers, 40 bloodriders, 35 archers and 10 patrolmen.

You have one more turn before the Svejas arrive.

You look in the distance, but no sign of reinforcement. You have to fight this alone for now.

9 + 5
The Svejas starts their siege moving their army closer to the walls, they believe that they are out of reach from your archers, but they forget that you have longbows. You plow down trough their ranks, and you kill a lot before the Svejas manage to arrange a defense against your arrows. At last they use their shields to move towards to your wall, but they still receive casualties.

When they finally reach the walls, their luck gets a break. Turns out they have some kind of special bows themselves. They call them crossbows and they actually manage to to kill some of your archers on the wall.

You take a look at the result as the Svejas prepare to take over the walls.

Svejas have lost atleast 300 men dead or broken rank. a slaughter that have demoralized them. You have lost 24 of your archers, replacing them with your swordsoldiers that are not so effective, giving you only +2 now in defence.

1800 svejas. 170 defenders

First post last digit your defence + 2
Second post, attackers - 1
Third post if reinforcment arrives. must roll 0 or 9.

As the battles goes on you still see no sign of the reinforcement. However the bloodlust amongst your defenders is satisfying. Your swordmen cuts through the Svejas like butter. One by one they fall and only once in a while they get a swing at you. Your soldiers removes the ladders efficiently, increasing their casualties.

At last they retreat to organize themselves. You survived for another day. But the Svejas will not give up.

1430 Svejas - 155 defenders

As you manage to reorganize your defences, you hear the Svejas. They attack again. With time to reorganize their negative moral has been eliminated. You prepare for another attack.

6- 8, Reinforcement are arriving

This time Svejas are much more aggressive. Your arrows does little damage, and they are up on the wall easily. They cut your swordsmen down and you realise that you need to fall back. But as you see hope disapears, you hear the sound of someone arriving. In the distance you see your army finally approaching.

The Svejas are confused and the moral falls as they prepare to meet your army on the open field. They retreat from the wall and prepare to fight. However, your archers give them a headache, and decreasing their movement. Your defenders can not join the fight.

Your army consists of your professional soldiers and volunteers that have gotten basic training.

1220 your soliders vs 1320 Svejas.

You get + 1 moral affect + 1 higher tech and + bloodriders. They get -1 in fatigue and -1 in moral.

First post, last digit decides efficiency + 3
Second posts last digit decide effiency enemy -2
Third posts decides defenders luck in interupting army. last digit.

Your bowmen at Ferris gave some minor casualties to the Svejas. However, they could not anticipate the force your Bloodriders envoke. Riding with a feriosity that has never been seen before they cut to the Svejas rank and mops them up. The casualties are immense and they break rank. The battle is over.

Your swordmen capture over 150 of the Svejas while the rest runs back to the pass. When the smoke clears the fields run red with their blood. It will be a long time before they bother you again..

Its impossible to tell, but you calculate that only 300-400 of the Svejas survived. You lost 7 bloodriders and 12 soldiers.

> The commanders asks you what to do with the 150 captured Svejas.
>>
>>44957542
Slave labor for the mines.
Also, asking to research government for the next turn with the Commander in mind. His victory was preordained by the skies, and by the grace of god he will return and lead as a King, with the council as his advisers. The social pressure leaves the council little choice.
>>

Interrogate, learn everything, from the name of their king to what they make their bread out of. After that they are to become slaves (read indentured servants) for a year, in service to the city as a whole under the power of the council. After this they will be released and helped to return to their homeland, assuming we have not conquered it by then in which case they become free men in our territory.

>>
>>44957627
Except one ruler is also shit, I am pushing for something like the merchant families of Venice or for a direct representation democracy or we could go with any other number of approaches but not monarchy

As the spoils of victory is getting clear, we find the crossbow in battlefield, we adopt it as a defence weapon.

The battle of Ferris becomes our national epos and the bloodriders are now seen as our forefathers spirit embodied. One of the riders especially is seen as blessed, and gets an epifany that he is destined to lead our people.

Along with the rest of the bloodriders he march back into Destiny Landing and proclaims himself as the forefathers choosen one to lead. The theological council, without any military support, has no option to accept this proclamation. The bloodrider is then coronated as king and the bloodriders as his personal army.

Your civ is now a monarchy

The king decide to put the Svejas to work at the mines as slave labour. However, since our culture have never had any experience with slavery and the slaves are trained soldiers this turns out to be ineffiecient. You lose half of them in riots or escaping.

I must refute the move to a monarchy, there was no formal vote, no poll, merely a discussion that resulted in change for no reason.

Further more the council would have at least held common support among the people and most of the armed forces, it seems unrealistic that NONE of the armed forces supported their own government.
>>
>>44957684
Monarchy is not a evolution of our government, it is a terrible thing to trade a council for a single person whom is perceived as perfect and infallible and therefore unquestionable. We have lowered the quality of our government by this motion and i hope you will see reason

My words are backed by nuclear weapons and I must agree with Leonard Nimoy. With a council there is no clear authority among their squabbling and personal prestige. Someone must stand at the top. The king is surrounded by his advisers, he is chosen by our all knowing ancestors, and has the loyalty of the army. He led us to a flawless victory.
>>
Event!
The announcement of creating a Monarchy is not well received everywhere. As the king inspect his bloodriders, he hears commotion from the great temple he has changed into a kings palace. Some swordsoldiers have rebelled against the king and is now entering the palass. The King sees the council marching along with around 150 soldiers into the halls.
"You have unlawful seized this country, step down!" says one of the councilmembers. The bloodriders react at the same moment. A confrontation is unavoidable.

Too late the king realizes that the council members have smugled archers into the hall through the roof. Bolts from crossbows flies through the air, killing of the bloodriders. The king himself recieves three bolts in the chest. However as the last action ever done, he throws his knife against the council-members. It hits one of them in the middle of the eye, killing him instantly. The only casualty for the council. When the bolts stops all the bloodriders and the kings lies dead.

For the civ this is now known as the "red coronation." The council immidiately disband the bloodriders. With the dispution finally resolved, the country now looks forward to rebuild.

Your wisest men starts to go together to learn about the mysteries of the nature. They find some logical conclusion, and with that they invent mathematics.

The council uses this to make population count and finds out that there are more people in our civilization than previously believed.

Some people that were training to be bloodriders find that their cavalry skills are not able to be used longer. The council then decides to establish the Longriders. A new group of soldiers on horses, however they lack the culture and tradition of the predessor, making them less efficient in battle.

The former. If I was angry I'd be attacking you personally as a poster. It's a game m8. Personally I don't see how Monarchies aren't a natural form of early evolution. Although it's not represented here there would have been clear squabbling in a council. Even in a council there's one that rules over it. The Monarchy quote "Let there be one ruler" is from the civ games, and it's quite accurate I believe.

From there you can evolve to all-powerful guilds, and democracy in time. Don't see how it can come at this stage as we're not there yet.

So in order to avoid a second revolt of that sort, i am going to suggest two things.

First, all civilians will be trained to fight to some degree in order to free up the professional troops from defensive duties, combined with strong walls and good defences we will hold against anything while no having to worry another armed coup.

Secondly we will keep the armed forces small during times of peace, most of the armed forces will be made of reservists (Not to be confused with civilian militia).

This is not to say that these concept can't and won't change in future but this is how a council would react to nearly being destroyed.
>>
>>44957994
>keep army small during peace time
>sudden and unforeseen enemy army appears
>now have to spend multiple turns retraining the army and hope we don't wipe before they finish
>>
>>44957966
Simple, we have the council change from religious to economic like the merchant-rulers of Venice, from that we then eventually alter it to a democracy thanks to a popular family giving the people a representative (or a group of them), from their we slowly have the merchant families fall out of power until all that is left is the council.

>>44958027
If you read my other point I advised a strong defence via creation of a civil militia and use of reservists to bulk out the army while keeping a small active force. This would all be backed up with strong walls and up-scaled siege crossbows mounted on the aforementioned walls.
>>
>>44958028
So... Feudalism?
>>
What I find funny is that it's a bloodrider that got thinking he was the chosen one of the ancestors and not the commander of the guard defending Ferris.
In any case we should promote that fucker. Get him a seat on the council so that the army get a say in the ruling of the nation.
We need to make the day we've won that battle an important day "army/victory day" or something.
>>
>>44958040
Our purpose as a council of the ancestors is to keep our people happy and safe, to advance our people and hopefully never need to send them into a second civil or otherwise war.
>>
>>44958028
But the era you're talking about is Renaissance for that to happen. Before Venice became that, it was Rome, and was ruled by a monarch as well.
>>
One of the blacksmith is experimenting with some iron ore when he discovers that a special process has made it more hard and better. He calls this steel. Soon the rest of civilization starts expermenting, creating some strong weapons like steel sword and steel armor. No, feudalism is different, it is the belief that those whom rule, rule because of the divine, it is also backed by a caste of priests with most of the civilisation being serfs whom are basically slaves with more freedom but are still property of their local lord.

These merchants rule as they have a vested interest in our country being powerful and also because they are the only ones outside of a religious or militaristic role whom early civs would even let rule.

I admit that this is not the best way to do this but it is one of the easiest

The battle of Ferris and the increase of epic poems have developed your culture. Your people believes that they are destined to go towards history together. Your theological council feels that there need a common nominator in your daily life.

From now on it is on our cultural identity that one day we will go back to our homeland and conquer the Empire.
A simple farmer with the name Keer gets a vision that our forefathers is lead by a deity named "The One", an almighty good. He is guided by five gods and five godesses.

The council expands the temple with statues of these deities. Our civilization is more connected now and thoughts of national identity is born, but for now not explored.

Religious houses around our area of influence is build, called forehouses. It is now believed that every man and women is to work towards the goal of reclaiming whats ours.

The need for better housing is apparent. Destiny Landing is crowded. The council decides to make the city better. The inner part of the old walls is restructured and build as a goverment quarter. Infront of the Temple there is now a public square while a new palace for the council is build. It can bee seen from long outside the city. In the house quarters it is now built a sewer system. You do not know enough about city building to install it every house, but public restrooms is now connected to the sewers. In the same way you have now build pipes from the Lifelake. Population goes up.

The Longrides have also experimented with armor for their horses, creating horse-armor, making them more resilient to damage.

You decide to know more about the Svejas. You try to interrogate the slaves from the battle a while back.

You promise freedom to the first one to talk, and soon enough one young man step forward. You guide him away from the others and sit down with him. He tells about the country of the Svejas and their capitol Shaitholm on the coast. He never been there but is from a small city south from there.

He tells about a country based on nomadic culture but has lately settled down and started on nationbuilding. The king of Svejas ordered recapture of Ferris. Not because it was important but because it was disrespectful. Sveja people kill to regain their honor if nessecary. When asked about military capasity, the Sveja says that you most likely are technology advanced with regards to them, but that they have at least four times as more people.

Realising the waste of the barter system the council decides to replace it with a currency system based on the copper and small amount of silver coming from the Ferris mines. This makes productive effective and food production goes up.

However, people are starting to leave DL and starting building their own houses around the area. Right now the area under our civilization is disorientated and that can be a problem in the future.

You decide it is time to expand your civ. You build a road to your eastern outpost. The ruins also provide good coverage and with a little home makeover the first people are ready to move in. You name this settlement New Hope. You scouts also manage to travel north and see that a desert starts at he other side of the mountains.

Soon you catch the attention of some caravan people coming from the east. They call themselves the Afrias. Their country is far east, but they have noticed your civilization, and would gladly start trading with you. Soon New hope becomes a trading hub for the eastern market.

You decide its time to improve your navy. You notice that your sailors still have good maritime culture. However the attackforce from the boats is a weakpoints. One of researcher comes with a liquid bought from the Afrians. They call it liquid fire.

You discover that it actually burns on the water. This is perfect for your boats. After some testing and failing (and lots of aloe vera) your boats are now equipped with liquid flame.

You build three of these boats.

The towerguard at Ferris see a convoy approaching. It consists of only a handful riders. Thet are Svejas. They stand outside the city and wants to talk to the leader.

You decide to oblige to the Svejas wish. You invite them in and arrange a feast. At the feast the Sveja chief complains about the beverage and tells about a drink that makes lifes better. You learn the secret of beer.

As you next day starts the release of the svejas, you decide to dress up some of your people as slaves. However, being in the same mines for a very long time they all know each other and only looks strange on you.

Thanks to the stupidity of this, they do not actually draws the conclusion that you tried to put spies among them.

As the slaves prepare to leave, one of them runs out of the convoy and stabs one of your officers, and a slaveguard, in the throat. After subduing the slave your soldiers surround the convoy.

Apparently the Sevjas did not believe that you used them as slaves, just as POW. Letting them go might escalate a conflict later, but keeping them will definately escalate a conflict, but give you time. What will you do?

It was stupid of them. Knowing that crossbow was aimed at them at all point. They fall down without anyone of your soldiers even lifting their sword. The convoy leader falls to their death, but his aid manage to put up his knife and carve the eye of the commander of Ferris, making the latter one blind on one eye. This also the only casualty.

The commander curse himself and in his mind he wonders if he could do anything different. The slaves tried to attack you, not forgetting the alllegiance. However the one that actually helped you tell about them looked in horror. He could never go back as he would be killed right away at home. He stares with open eyes on the dead leader.

He turn around the corps and sees the medallion on the dead convoy-leader.
"Oh no."
"What is it?" says the commander.
"He has the amulet of the lion around him. That makes him immune to the law amongst Svejas. They give this only to the nearest family to the emperor. They will come for us, everyone of them will come trough the gate and with only one goal, to eliminate us."

TIME TO BUILD A GREAT WALL, AND MOUNT ARCHERS ALL ALONG IT, AND CROSSBOWS, AND ALSO SIEGE CROSSBOWS.

We will then dig pits in front of it filled with spikes, tunnels that we can collapse after using to assault them from behind along with their supply chain, we will also need to give all our citizens a spear or some shit just to be on the safe side.

Or, just conquer their fortress and make them waste their men on its walls. I doubt they'd expect an attack coming from behind the fortress so send a good portion of the army by sea to attack from Svenja teritory.
Make armor of their style and gain entrance that way, could be done from the Ferris side of the mountain as well
