Hell, there are currently discrepancies between the image version of. The FAQ and the text version, where one says yes to a question and the other says no.
If they are truly "in effect" like you say then which one is the right one? The image or text?

Yeah, things are getting better, at least in comparison, but it's still not in a GOOD place. Superheavies are everywhere and half of the factions are just not fun to play against other factions.

I'll keep an eye on 40k, but I'd rather my dollerydoos go to a game that makes me happy and I actually look forward to playing instead of a clusterfuck of dice and bad game balance. Maybe in 8th when they've had a chance to give all of the factions a round of updates.

So hey, if I'm footslogging 60 Boyz and 60 Gretchin, how long do you think they'll last against most armies? Assuming those armies are non-tournament tier lists, casual only.

That'll be the core of my army, so I'm wondering how fast I'll probably lose.

>>
>>47352952
That´s not new, that´s how the rules have always been. FAQ are not new or changed rules, Fast Skimmers can fire 2 weapons after moving 12", but nowhere does it say embarked models can fire at full balistic skill after the vehicle has moved 12".

Never played Imperial Guard before and I'm going to do it soon.

>>
>>47353614
Regular Russ is for generalist work and shoudl be in squadrons, if you know what you need, take a specialist.

Vets vs. infantry is down to taste (and wallet)

Basilisks are like vanilla Russ, take them in batteries if you don't know what else to take, otherwise grab a specialist "variant"
>>
>>47353611
>and they wouldn't be able to tell
That's what I mean.
I'm not saying that they'll resist the new image, I'm saying that they don't read the threads, and don't notice subtle changes in the image.
They'll be posting the older ones because they haven't updated their cellphone albums. The most resent tiled version is radically different and noticeable. Proof Kroot is a little subtle.

You're not trying to overcome stubbornness, you're trying to overcome ignorance. That's why I wished you good luck.

1000-2000. In my old LGS we mostly played 2k but we'd shrink the lists to anything between those numbers. 1500 in my opinion
>>
>>47353070
Well you have no daemons so you may want to adjust that. Bloodletters and a herald of khorne are a good start. Are you trying to play Khorne Daemonkin? In that case you should look into getting a chaos lord and some possessed and you would be able to take a slaughtercult with few additions.
>>
>>47353669
Alright.

>>47353770
If anything it would be a mix, I like the classic idea of tanks followed by waves of troops. I also considered the idea of a more static army but I'm not sure if it could work, I'll probably have to play against drop pod lists, between others.
>>
>>47353614
my experience from playing guard for 5+ years
>Russes
Exterminators with las/plas are great all rounders in my experience that tend to be underestimated. Vanilla russes are bad. every other one is so-so. take as you see fit.
>Basilisks
the only artillery worth taking right now is the Wyvern. take in 2s and blast the shit out of any infantry it they can see.
>vets vs platoons
depends how you want to run. generally vets are taken for mechanized lists and platoons for hybrids/foot sloggers. If you take platoons get the 50blob conscripts and throw in a priest or Commissar. great at tying up units or sitting their fatasses on an objective.
>>
>>47352888
Personally been playing a lot of 2000-3000 lately.
I feel like under 2000pts leads to many Net Lists but 2000+ feels like a real war.
Usually I expect a full day if I know I will have a game of 40k and don't plan on doing things after most of the time so I would rather fill that with a really big cinematic battle than 2 smaller skirmishes.
>>
>>47353917
Waves of troops means no transports, so you want infantry, a some leman russes and maybe some devil dogs.
Infantry shoot the little stuff
Lemans can take out tanks and shoot monsters
Might want a single source of AA, not sure about your local meta
Devildogs are backup anti-tank and will try to melt stuff with speed

Consider using vanquisher cannons on the lemans, it's your best anti-tank option. Add the lascannon to them as well.
>>
So how bad did the "new" faq hit DE and Nids
A friend needs to know
>>
>>47354253
>DE

Very badly. Using transports as platforms for shooting is basically pointless now.

>Nids

Not too bad overall, though MCs can't get cover from gaunts standing in front of them now.
>>
>>47353614
>vanilla Russ any good?
I like it a lot, but consider that you can easily magnetize most of the guns available that come on the kit - Vanquisher, exterminator, battle tank and anhilator on the LRBT kit, the rest on the Demolisher.

I don't particularly like the especialized tonks, I think guard is a lot more about having as many tools to do whatever it takes as possible, not specific tools for certain roles.

>veterans or platoons?

I like using both at the same time, conscripts are great and mechanized squads with multiple melta/plasma too

>basilisks, yes or no?

I don't really like them, but everything can work if you like it

For instance, my favourite artillery is the manticore -- I use it to mostly hurt bigass vehicles like knights and land raiders, with S10 AP4 it's very easy to pen and hurt them bit by bit
>>

Out of the 3 Tau players I know, 2 own Riptides, and even they both have just one each.

I'm not too surprised that Tau players would want a large centerpiece model like that. The real trouble starts when they don't realize how good it is or start bringing multiples.

I hope to never see a full Riptide army. If I do, I hope they at least mix it up with weapons and forgeworld variants. Nothing more boring than 5 Iontides all with Stims staring you down.
>>
>>47354745

I like how people always say it's okay because they have "just one" Riptide.

"Just SOME cheese." "Just ONE squad of Centurions." "Just ONE Battle Company". "Just ONE murder-rape homicide."

If your defense for your bullshit is "one Riptide is easy to take care of", you're just enabling bullshit power creep and cheese. Doesn't matter if it's to a lesser degree than Riptide spam or Eldar, you're still advocating it. Certain armies actually CAN'T handle even a single Riptide unless they start cheesing out their collection and allying.

At this point I think it's probably one or two guys just looking for a reason to shitpost
>>
>>47354745
There's a reasonable different if you look at the army. Some tau players just have 1-2, some of those may not even own many battlesuits. These are people that play the tau army.
Then you have the fags with 3+ riptides, with airbrushed models and lists that make you want to strangle him with his codex. This are the WAAC tourney fags who probably copied a list off the internet. They play a list, not an army.

>>
>>47354777
At over 1000 points? A single Riptide isn't really that big of a deal, no. Its still a really strong unit, no doubt, but you're looking at maybe 50 extra points of value from where it should be.

Obviously lower level armies are going to struggle, but the Tau player can always not bring the Riptide. Owning one isn't the same as using it in every game ever.

twin blades and melta bomb on the justicar, 2 helberds, 1 psycannon and 2 hammers.

582 points on a single allied detachment of my 1500 point army. librarian rolls on the new librarius powers for veil of time, might of heroes or null zone. Grand master rolls on fulmination for fists of lightning and electrodisplacement.

>>47354854

Fair enough.
I gotta remember that every Ork unit has a downside in comparison to it's counterpart in other armies more I suppose.

He was keeping his Riptide Wing way back in his deployment zone to use them as artillery so they probably would have ran off the board anyway since don't Jet units fall back 4d6?
He'll probably be picking up a Stormsurge later on to take up that duty with so that'll be fun to deal with.

I asked this in the wrong topic, and people that play w3000 told me it may not be possible. But maybe they are wrong. Can someone tell me if it is possible to somehow limit the number of formations used. At least the skyhammer marine one, and the host eldar one. Or if there is a good way to counter any of those two.
>>
>>47355476
If I take chaos lord as HQ how could I round out my army?
>>
>>47355523
Bottom three are
Orks
Dark eldar
And either nids or CSM
As for how to fix them, orks need a complete rework. Lower point costs, make some of the units better (like removing >I2), more options all around, a non shit decurion, basically everything.
Dark eldar are far too fragil and the recent jink clarification basically removed the only thing that helped them get around that. To fix themm they need to become a bit harder to kill, perhaps giving them a special rule that basically undoes the FAQ for them alone, or something like that.

CSM need points cuts, improvements to units, legion tactics, etc. essentialy a whole new codex. But barring a complete rework them would be to just release daemonkin books for each gods would serve as a suitable patchwork.
Not sure how to fix nids.

>>
>>47355360
Does it? Seems like you'd just fish out 5s & 6s, pick up half the remainder & re-toss them. Easier than Master-crafted BS on Badrukk's GW formation.
>>
>>47355832
Houserules are alterations made to 40k by a group of players.
Essentialy, a gaming group decides that they think they should all follow a new rule that isn't in any offical GW material for the current edtion, or they make up a new rule, or decided to ignore a rule.
Does that some what help explain it?
As for limiting formations, because we don't know your army it's hard to tell you how to counter them, so unless you tell us what you play, the best advice I can give is don't play with WAAC faggots, get a good group of friends who aren't a-holes, and play at lower point levels if you think your opponent is a dick.

Also, if you don't mine me asking, what is your native language? I'm guessing it's not from the indo-european family, as I would doubt any one of them is so differnt from English that the concept of houserules being indicated by the word "houserules" is completely foreign
>>
>>47355882

The chaos Lord give him terminator armour and some claws throw him in the rhino with the berserkers and they will wreck anything they come against
>>
>>47353125
ecause cool models and lore are what prop 40k up and 40k did it first, despite what tourneyfags believe. A good hobby or game needs to be interesting and fun visually before rules and it needs to come along and do some thing new before other games. It's why chess is more popular than go. It's why league is more popular than Dota 2. It's why starcraft 2 beat other rts games. All are easier to get into and are more fun visually, while coming along first in their areas or genres. Warmachine failed at this.

So how do I make guard work in HoR Killteam?

I can easily make any other faction work and have a blast playing the game....but my precious guard seem to fail at this gametype.

Vets can only take one special weapon and nothing more. They die to a stiff breeze. Am I to just constantly hide them, move forward, and hope my lasguns can get a wound?

The best I could figure to do is mass infantry with conscripts and orders for lasgun spam, but even that is...dull.

Am slavic, Polish to be exact. House rules here, mean rules how to act in a house. how to clean, not offende the house owners etc.
I play IG. I have 3 chimeras. 3 wyverns. 60 guardsman and 3 command sections.
What my opponents play is a formation that is in reservs, comes down turn one, and then my tanks get blown up by heavy weapon marines and the troops get assaulted by jump marine. my eldar friends, plays a lot of very fast moving multi shot infantry, which I don't remember the name of, and small 3 man vehicle units, which always outrange me. I can't shot the vehicles because they shot and drive away, and the infantry has some crazy rule that lets them leave the range of my weapons. I had games with versus eldar player where he lost no models and l lost my whole army. Vs the marine player, I do a bit better, I kill some models before he tables me. They don't even play objectives when they play against me, just got for turn 3-4 wipe out.

Vet Spam with Plasma or Melta is very useful.
Catachans are probably the best regiment concerning bang for buck.
Other fun stuff includes Stormies being mildly more useful and making an Ogryn beatstick(s) by buffing them with a Priest and Medic.

Also don't bother with standard Infantry squads or Conscripts if you're planning on a long campaign.
The longer a campaign runs the more important the emphasis on how elite your troops are as you start hitting the model cap.

Except Eldar whose theme is being better than other lists, most armies are designed along a playstyle theme.

Necrons: Tough, slow moving, short ranged guns. The best units are actually fast (Wraiths and Destroyers) because Maelstrom has made the game entirely about fast units.

Imperial Guard: The second most flexible army after Eldar, but much weaker. Can be run as giant blobs of infantry, accurate veterans in armored transports with tanks backing them, massive waves of fliers, and artillery spam.

Space Marines: Comes in a number of pointless codi, basically they are either played with a bunch of free tanks or as a drop pod codex. Short range fire power is the name of the game.

Tau: The shooty army. Can make themselves hyper accurate, long range missiles everywhere, can be played as a wall of shooting infantry or as gundams. The latter is currently the stronger form.

Chaos Space Marines: Terrible. Don't do this.

Khorne Daemonkin: A better form of CSM, you get flying daemons, fleshhounds, and biker spam. Because of Maelstrom the emphasis is on fast units, which you have three types of.

Chaos Daemons: This can be good in two ways right now. Summoning to make an ever larger army, or playing Nurgle Daemons for fast moving troops that can't phase out.

Orks: Wait for a different edition. Balancing them relative to other armies effectively requires halving their points cost, and they are already dirt cheap on points.

Dark Eldar: They are a dead faction now.

Corsairs: The replacement for Dark Eldar, fast units with specialized weapons trying to alpha strike the opponent.

Craft World Eldar: Broken in every way. The four best units in the game are all in their codex, and they have no bad units.

Sisters of Battle: Actually good, but cost a fortune in cash to play. Basically female Space Marines at this point.

commisar can not be your mandatory HQ choice
make it a lord commisar
also lose a flak tank or two, that's really overkill for 1000 points (unless your local meta is flying circus) jesus and grab 1 wyvren

True, but it punishes Ork wallets even more. They would be better off just giving Orks I4 on the charge and making them BS3 base, Gitfinda going up to 4. Who really wants 600+ Boyz on the field?
>>

I like how it's exactly 1,000 points.

Thanks(?), I just wrote it up that way because I have a love for the tanks and wanted to be able to fit them in and then fill out the rest of the army.

>>47356940
Really? I read it in the Codex and interpreted it as meaning that you could take them as an optional addition to PCS and CCS, meaning that they could still be used as HQs?

Also, isn't the Wyvern better than the Hydra?

Though, if I got rid of one of the Hydras I could make him a Lord Commissar instead.

probably 1750. too bad no one plays it that often.

Cool, thanks. 1 quick follow up question:
>Chaos Space Marines: Terrible. Don't do this.
What makes them so bad? Weren't they super strong at one point?

Alright then I'll wait for a different edition and scout out some cheap Ork models for now. Or play this Gorkamorka game, I can't get enough of these green gorillas.

At least you painted them while you were keen on hordes.

Jesus Christ, are you faggots stupid?

If, from the POV of the shooting models, the target is obscured by intervening models then the target gets a save. There is no choosing anything for the shooter.

If, from the POV of the shooting models, the target is not obscured by the intervening unit due to units being at different elevations then the target does not get a cover save.

How would you prefer it to work?

Chaos had broken helldrakes at one point when everyone was running long fangs/bikers

Now it's superheavy spam

You can make chaos work, it's just harder. Thankfully the new formations in the BL and CS supplements help, but it's an uphill climb.

I suggest you simply pick what you want to play, then don't play against WAAC faggots. The game is about having fun.

They are a slow melee faction in a fast shooting game. CSM have one good troop, the Noise Marines, and Nurgle Bikers are the best unit in the codex, both of which are expensive. It is possible to win as CSM if you run a list with no eye to fluff at all and cherry pick the best units from each group (Slaneesh Daemonprinces, Khorne Bloodthirsters, Noise Marines, Nurgle Bikers, Renegade Knights).

750, 1000, 1250, 1500

1850 and 2000 are the most popular but they're way too large and easy to cheese.

Still don't see the point of 1850 now there's no limit on CADs, given it was brought in as an alternative to the 1999+1 nonsense.
