Pretty much this.
It's not the emperor keeping the beacon on, it's the sacrifices they're making to him. The death of 1000 psykers a day burns like a pyre in the warp.
>>

The Emperor was a genetically engineered figurehead, created by the high lords of Terra to give something for humanity to rally behind. The Black Legion know this.

The Black Legion (like all other traitor legions and this whole heresy bs) are just fictional bogeyman, created by the high lords of terra to scare the shit out of their minions.

I asked this in another thread but the thread got nuked because OP was a faggot

Why is big E's skeleton proportioned more or less like a normal human but all of his living artwork makes him out to be larger than a space marine? I assume he at least wasn't ALWAYS 10 feet tall, considering he was born in prehistorical times and wouldn't be able to blend in very well. Is his pictures of him in his armor just him curled up fetal position in the giant cuirass and controlling the whole thing with psychic?
>>
>>47314544
All "souls" are in actuality daemons tied to the physical forms of intelligent organisms. Blanks have actual souls, which are anathema to daemons and reinforce the reality that spawned them.
>>
>>47318705
The Emperor was a master Biomancer, it's part of how he created the Primarchs. Basically, he could appear however the fuck he wanted and for the sake of convincing humanity to defer to his judgement/will, he figured giant, golden, radiant, handsome motherfucker in artificer armour with eagle wings embossed on his PAULRDONS was the best way to go.
>>
>>47318765

okay that makes sense

And I guess when he no longer had the luxury of the concentration and spare power to maintain his giant god mode, his corpse reverted to his normal size
>>
>>47318765
The last thing he did before being interred in the Golden Throne was get in a fight with the most lethal being in the galaxy. Gotta get huge.

Without a frame of reference, a big man in a big chair looks like a normal man in a normal chair.

Also, The Emperor's normal image is confirmed to be a psychic projection. He actually looks like a tired old man.

The Orc field is so strong it's the reason the tyranids came into existence to give them something to fight.
>>

It was never the Emperor powering the beacon, he is however the only psyker strong enough to control it.

He can't be dead, without him it wouldn't be of any use. He is like the focusing lens of laser, without him, the Astronomican is diffuse and useless, with him, it is a clear and strong beam visible across the galaxy.

>Abaddon's Black Crusades have failed,in the end, because the Dark Gods enjoy seeing him fail time and time again, no matter how much effort he puts in the cause.

>Tyranids are the most ancient race in the Universe; they scoured the Milky Way galaxy long ago, exterminating all life. The Ancient Ones, the Necrontyr, Eldar and even Humans are actually distant cousins of the Tyranids, having evolved into completely different species as livestock material for the Hive Mind.

>Bjorn Fell Hand knows the whereabouts of the Tree of Life, but won't tell anyone because it was revealed to him in a dream by the ghost of Leman Russ.

>Abaddon's Black Crusades have failed,in the end, because the Dark Gods enjoy seeing him fail time and time again, no matter how much effort he puts in the cause.
I like this idea, but prefer that they fail because his success would fuck things up for them. If he wins, then Khorne will get a lot less bloodshed, Nurgle will get a lot less stasis, Slaanesh will get a lot less people striving to improve for the next attempt, and Tzeentch will actually succeed in a plot so he can't keep working against himself. The best thing for them is an eternal failure, where Abbadon never wins, but never dies, and therefore keeps trying forever.
>>

If everything is canon, the Emperor is pretty explicitly dead. It's outline really pointedly in the introduction for the Inquisitor book. The throne itself is the lens; the Emperor's corpse is just that: a corpse.
>>
>>47323254

*pretty implicitly. It's not flat out stated, but it's pretty obvious that the Emperor is about as alive as Liberace was straight.

>Emperor will be reborn as Ynnead
>>
>>47323300
So,the Emperor is basically His spirit trapped inside His dead body. Everything attributed to His actions are actually due to something else, be it the Throne, the Chorus or some other element related to Him.

Sounds grimdark enough to be canon. Everybody in the Empire thinks he's guiding them, but it's just their need to believe in Him what keeps everything going one, while the Emperor's soul is desperately waiting for the Throne to breakdown so He can reincarnate.
>>
>>47322835
>Bjorn Fell Hand knows the whereabouts of the Tree of Life,
what the fuck is tree of life
>>
>>47323444
A legend of the Space Wolves. It tells somewhere inside the Eye of Terror there's a world where grows a tree which fruit grants eternal life, healing of all illness and wounds,no matter how grave. Some believe that's what Leman Russ set out to find, so he could retrieve the fruit to heal the Emperor.
>>
>>47323426
What spirit? It was burned up millennia ago, powering the Beacon for a single day.
>>
>>47323540
Source? I think I missed that. Or is it speculation?
>>
>>47323584
My entry for biggest plot twist. They burned the Emperor's soul for fuel, and now they're throwing ten thousand psykers on the fire each day to keep it going.
>>

I thought it was Malcador that died powering the Astronomican while Emps was fighting Horus.
>>
>>47316055

That's pretty thought provoking.
>>
The only way the Emperor could make the Primarchs was by making a deal with the Chaos Gods. All the Primarchs are basically Greater Demons of Man.

Perhaps the Emperor was using their energy or some shit and hoped they wouldnt discover what it was for. But it is all irrelevent, they spirited the Primarchs away.

Theres also an interesting theory I heard that the Big E is a Egregore constructed by Malchior, that mysterious human who somehow is his only friend.

That's because the sisters of battle are actually all men, and that armor plating between space marine legs is just ammo storage. When the emperor went to "bargain with forces of chaos" he actually just visited the vacation realm of the old ones, drank pina colada and traded schematics for pictures of scantily clad human females. The old ones masterplan is just for everything to kill everything else, and then come back when the immaterium is blank again because there are no living creatures to fuck it up.

>>Maccharius really intended to use his popularity pull a Caesar on the High Lords. (Maybe it's what actually happened, I'm not sure)
I am reminded of another hotshot commander, Admiral Usurs, who fell out of favour with the High Lords; exactly why wasn't stated, but they wanted to get rid of him. He was "too powerful to execute without inviting civil war", so they sent him to conquer worlds beyond the galaxy for two decades until all contact was finally lost - and his reports of the new systems he found were never followed up.

>>47323034
Well, the original codex, and the pre-codex short story Deus Ex Mechanicus, revealed that the Deceiver had done it, but the idea that the actual Necrons themselves could was new (though the existence of sapient Necrons wasn't).

>Upon the rogue trader's vessel the kast Lord Cypher retired early to his rented quaters. They were lavish, gawdy and repugnant to him. A farcry from the sleeping cell assigned to him in the Order. He sighed at the memory, what he had been instructed, the last instructions of a shattered planet. He had escaped, he had seen the awful truth with his own eyes, the instructions encoded in his mind by Luthur were clear and bright in his mind...

>... And then they were gone again, his frenzied mind raced to recover some fragment as to why he was on this ship, where it was going and who was he with? He paced. Frantic. Forgotten in his mind and in his world. His hands, thick and callous, ran over his head as if to find some scrap of knowledge he had moments ago. He fell to his knees, and wept silently. Only stopping when the doors to his quaters opened and a small, cowled figure entered wearing the same robes as he.

>>
>>47324690
Friendly reminder that everything that is supposedly canon is propaganda. Everything is true and nothing is true.
>>
>>47324690
Honestly I was just trying to avoid an argument. I personally don't regard it as canon, any more than this Perpetual bullshit. Takes away from the mysticism involved since tales of the Emperor are supposed to be shrouded in myth, passed down as legends. If anything, I think it lessens its quality as a tragedy. Rather than the Emperor being a well-intentioned man who made mistakes that ultimately led to his own downfall and self-sacrifice for the good of humanity, he gets turned into a fedora-tipping retard with literally no sense of how to deal with people.

And while I think the Emperor being a psychic projection of Malcador's (who is the true immortal from before recorded history) is interesting, I think it fits better than he's the one friend the Emperor can confide in, who keeps him grounded and connected to the rest of Mankind.
>>
Here's my issue with the "emperor is waiting to die so he can reincarnate" ideas. Why would he have asked to be put on the throne when he was dying rather than just die and come back immediately when his sons were still around and the Imperium was in less danger?

And, whatever the reason is, won't X still happen if he dies now, 10,000 years later, as when he was first put there, except now there aren't primarchs or anybody else with any clue as to what they're doing so it's just far more dangerous to do so?
>>
>>47325198
Because someone had to plug up the warp hole that would have turned Terra into Eye of Terror 2.0, now with galaxy wide service.
>>
>>47325246

Yeah, but that'll happen even if he dies now. It's not like it's sealed off now and wasn't back then. So why would he be waiting to die to reincarnate? The same shit he went on the throne for will still happen, so all he did was waste 10,000 years.

My theory.
It's with Isha at the centre of Nurgles Garden. The tree can only exist in her pressence; it is watered by her tears and grows from her love. The fruit taken from the tree will rot away to nothing before you leave the garden without her help.

Nah, Yarrick is pretty famous: the bale eye was even a deliberate move to reinforce the Orks' belief that he could kill with a glance.
However, Orks who've never met him also believe he's some massive monster-humie, a true pinkskin equivalent to Ghazghkull. Which is very much not the case.

>COMMISSAR YARRICK
>Being somewhat soft, it is extraordinary for ’umies to gain respect from Orks – especially greenskins led by a stoic and battle-hungry Goff like Ghazghkull. Although Space Marines are regarded with esteem for their skills in battle – none more so than Commander Dante of the Blood Angels – it was an Imperial Commissar that drew the most admiration from the Orks. Here was an uncompromising warrior – as eager to shoot his own ladz as the foe, if that’s what it took to gain victory. Commissar Yarrick was certainly a thorn in Ghazghkull’s side, for the greenskins reckon that it was he alone that willed the defenders of Hades Hive to hold on for so long. The Orks gradually learned from their captives that the defenders of Hades had grown to fear Yarrick as much as they dreaded the fury of Ghazghkull. To the Orks, this was the kind of leader they could respect. The fact that he wore Goff colours – black with red trim – boosted his esteem even further. It is said that of all Ghazghkull’s foes, Yarrick was the only one that he ever cursed – high praise indeed. Those Orks that came face-to-face with the infamous ‘Umie Boss’ often expressed disappointment. In person, Yarrick was only human-sized, although this was lessened somewhat because he did at least wear an Ork power klaw and bear an evil eye. Amongst the Boyz, it was said that those Orks that recognised who they were up against were always slain – for they stood in gape-jawed disbelief at Yarrick’s insulting puniness and so left themselves open to a deathblow. The wily Orks acknowledged the value of this tactic, even if it was a sly, sneaky Blood Axe kind of trick.

The Loyalist Primarchs are all dead and or rendered no threat.

Lion El'Jonson
>Lion El'Jonson does not sleep at the center of The Rock, he is awake and is wracked with soul-rendering guilt over what happened at Caliban, unsure of what is true and what is not he convinces himself of one thing only to do the opposite the next. The Dark Angels completely unknowing.

Jaghatai Khan
>Jaghatai Khan could of done far more during the Siege of Terra but was unsure, overlooked, cast aside and somewhat resentful he turned away from the Emperor after the Heresy. It was the first Great Hunts mission to slay him, they did so. Having committed the greatest fraticide, the White Scars keep up the act (and now fully believe, the trust lost) that they search for their Primarch.

Leman Russ
>Leman Russ is fell to the Canis Helix not long after the Horus Heresy, the story Bjorn The Fell-Handed told is a confused allagory of what befell him. He was released to stalk Fenris as the largest Fenrisian Wolf to live.

Rogal Dorn
>During the time of rebuilding when the legions were split in to seperate Chapters, Rogal Dorn was unable to bring himself to shatter his legion, a legion that esposed the whole over the self. Wracked with guilt over the Emperor, the Iron Cage and the failing Imperiu he spent increasing times in the pain glove, eventually dying within. It was another who split the legion for him.

Corax
>When Corax began trying to hurry the creation of his legion, he also experimented upon his own self. Ordering his most learned Apothecaries to cut what they needed from his flesh and practice. The experiments never reached actual experiments on newly inducted marines. The howling beasts below the Ravenspire tower was always and only Corax. Upon breaking free, mutated and made foul by his own hand, he fled to the Eye of Terror, reducing faster and faster in to chaospawn.

The God of Reason is endlessly tolerant, patient, above being provoked into violence or petty slights. Their strength is in their invulnerability; reflected in adamantium armor and shields. Especially useful when negotiating with Eldar and Necrons, when the need arises. Trading land, trading resources, trading information. Schmoozing with the remaining beings who will see reason.

>The God of Human Intelligence cares not for bureacracy nor dogma. It, like nature itself, is a cook. Its engineering and technology is living, breathing, organic. Innovation, engineering and rediscovery, the realm of mad men and innovators. Married to goddesses of Energy and Substance, he produces endless spawns of earth and fire and plastic and glass. Just as apt to sanction and aid the Adeptus Mechanicus as it is to circumvent them when they get wet feet, to their chagrin. That is not at all what it implies.

>After a bloody conquest at Baktria, Grammaticus had been one of a hundred Caucasian officers invited to a Triumph at Pash, hosted by the retinues of the thunderbolt and lightning army. During the festivities, the Emperor – even then he had been known only by that objectionable epithet – had grandly toured the tables to personally thank his foreign allies and the leaders of the mercenary clans. Grammaticus had been one of hundreds present to receive his grateful handshake. In that moment of contact, he had seen why the Emperor was a force to be reckoned with: a psyker of towering, unimaginable strength, not really human at all by any contemporary measure of the fact. Grammaticus, who had never met anyone else like himself, had shuddered, and felt like a drone insect in the presence of its hive king. The Emperor had felt Grammaticus in the same passing second of contact. He had smiled.

>‘You have a fine mind, John,’ he had said, without having to ask Grammaticus his name. ‘We should talk, and consider the options available to beings like us.’
>He closed his eyes and thought of Rukhsana.

>It’s as if you see right into me. There was too much truth in that. His mind saw into everything. It made him think of the thing he tried never to think about: that day, long ago, meeting the Emperor, shaking his hand, tasting the power, and seeing, behind the glamour of that handsome, noble, healthy face, seeing…

>Just for a nanosecond.

>Seeing…

>‘Are you quite well, sir?’ the bashaw asked. ‘You went rather pale all of a sudden. Is it motion sickness?’

>In the end he was used as bait to draw in an elite Inquisitor strike force so that it could be eliminated.
I think the point of luring the second Inquisition ship to the world was both to trap Sasham there - first by driving away his own orbiting vessel, then finally destroying his shuttle and deploying the stormtroopers to besiege the facility - and to put further pressure on him, guiding the experiment he had no idea he was the subject of to its conclusion.

Alpharius and Omegon are the two lost Primarchs.

The original Primarch of the XX Legion was somehow fatally flawed and degenerated into a vile monster. The Emperor was forced to destroy him completely and conceal what had happened, least the Legions and Primarchs he needed to forge the Imperium begin to fear they too might be flawed from conception.

Unsure if the Primarch's taint had been passed into the geneseed the Emperor forbid the XX Legion from expanding any further, sealed the information about its origins and placed it on a tight leash.

Later when the two lost Prmarchs and their legions were purged for whatever crimes they committed the Emperor offered them a bargain: They could continue in his service and their Legionaries could survive among the ranks of the Ultramarines, but they would have to take up the mantle of "Alpharius Omegon" and serve as the leaders of and geneseed for the XX Legion, ensuring the secret of what had become of the original XX Primarch would never be revealed.

They accepted and everything about their original identities, even their appearances and memories, were remade and Alpharius/Omegon was born.

But some sliver of their old identities remained deep inside them, stirring doubt...

BONUS TWIST

Horus knew the true fate of the lost Primarchs, but not the fate of the XX Primarch. Seeing how harshly his brothers were treated, but not understanding why the Emperor had done such a thing, deeply shook his faith in him as a benevolent leader.

Some may have reduced him to a boogeyman, but that was him. Since you mention AoS too, he's one of the most vocal supporters of it on /tg/ (though he still continues to blight the WHFB general as well despite his supposed, self-proclaimed contempt for the setting).

yea. i'm really glad i read that too. fanfic or not, it meshes perfectly. and goddamn it is fuckin on point. Kinda torn on the pic they have up vs. his official description with the mustache. He looks so intense in that pic. I guess it really depends on who's writing him that determines his temperament but headcanon makes me see him as a stern but fair father figure to the imperial fists.
>>

I must of read over that, not a surprise since I was still pretty shocked over the twist at the end. That was my first 40k book I have ever read, I am dying to read something on par to Xenobiology.

The Ordo Desolatus (latin: from dē (“from, away from”) + sōlus (“alone, sole, only”))

Its a space station shot out into the darkest edge of known space, with all human knowledge and recorded history on it. With one Inquisitor in cryo-stasis against his will.

A final time-capsule for all humanity, for when mankind is wiped out at the end of the 41st millienium.
>>
>>47352573
That is some god damn spooky shit
But I believe it
>>
>>47352573
yea but this is warhammer40k. in some way shape or form, some writer is gonna deus ex machina that shit and suddenly be happened upon by some chaos bullshit. the inquisitor will be inviolably tainted and when he lands, augmented by chaos, he'll grow a fuckin army out of fungi and blood or something, a pale imitation of the SPESS MAREENS and now we'll get some knock off human-esque faction spanning worlds from the edge of space like the fuckin tau. except they'll be...idk, what's the sci-fi flavour of the month that hasn't been beaten to death? Fuck it, hermaphadites. an alien race of SJW, hermies running around with gestalt psyker abilities.

>>
>>47352573
they could blatently rip off the ending of that short story (9 billion names of god)

his cryo-stasis unit powers down (maybe its got a dead-mans hand signal being sent from terra up until the point of species death). he wakes up and looks back through the viewer in the direction of the galaxy. as he watches one by one, without a fuss, the stars start to blink out.

>>
>>47353038

and that would be where >>47352808 would pick up or something.
not that it matters, it's gonna be another what, 10-15 years before we ever find out what the fuck happens since the whole lore is based around the game and once that delicate* balance gets nudged ever so slightly, people will collectively lose their shit and GWS will face a bigger red margin than Sears.
>>
>>47352573
The inquisitors ship gets sucked into a black hole. The ship breaks apart. He doesn't die, instead he drifts through this nothingness for aeons.

Eventually he gets shot out into realspace. He crash lands like a comet on a planet.

Its 8,000 BC. Central Anatolia, Terra.
>>
>>47353272

oh ffs. i dont know what would make me angrier, chaos intervention bullshit or this.

this does sound like some bullshit a writer hired by GWS would do though. keeps the status quo, blah blah fuckin blah.

> Humanity actual have a gestalt psychic consciousness like the Orks do, albeit weaker and functioning differently. For humanity it manifests in Faith and the miracles and divine intervention so common in 40k. Orks believe red ones go fasta so they do. Humans believe the Emperor protects and so he does.

> Humans believe the Emperor yet lives and watches over them from the Golden Throne and so he does. The more that believe it the stronger the effects - miracles become more common, powerful. When faith wanes then so does the Emperor.

Hell this is practically my cannon explenation for Holy stuff in my Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy games. Along similar lines, the astronomicon is shooting a beam of "Emperor thoughts" into the warp constantly its bound to have an effect in the material world beyond being just a becon.

>>47357431
Isnt there one cannon Tau battlesuit piloted by an AI copy of a firewarriors brain? I could tottally see an underpopulated sept after a catastrophe doing that on mass, wraith-warrior and knight style.

I wasn't thinking anything with the battlesuits.

What I had in mind was something like the German WW1 soldiers in Sucker Punch that are powered by "steam and clockwork" only the Tau use plasma power and (I dunno) gyros(?) to reanimate the corpses of Fire Warriors. Especially to fight against the Tyranids - no fear and the degraded biomass would be of questionable value to the Hive Mind.

You have a frame of reference, there's a human skull under his right hand.

Actually, in the shade of his right hand, He looks to be nearly 15 feet tall, with a skull twice human size and handspan sufficient to hold two skulls in a single hand.
