Shinobi Quest #2
This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.
(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last thread, our character Tsuki Norihime completed her Genin examination, lost a match of Shogi to Shikamaru, and received her team assignment-
Hinata Hyuga, a quiet girl from a powerful house with a strong bloodline
Nori Uzumaki, your rather unpleasant and tempestuous rival, the daughter of the 4th Hokage.
And your Sensei, the inscrutable Ebisu.
You aren’t really sure how it could be any worse.
“Your new sensei will find you all individually before the day is out- all of you are free to go.” Mizuki proclaims, clearly happy to be free of the lot of you.
Your new teammates are still chatting in the corner, likely celebrating.
What will you do?

“You must always be representative of your father, the Hokage”, she drones, clearly reciting this from memory. “Your actions will always reflect upon him and the entire Uzumaki clan.”
While you’re uninterested in her inability to act the part of a lady, she does bring up something worth conversing about.

He’s snuck off a few times to peep in a bathouse or two, I’m sure, but we don’t have anything to worry about.” She pauses, and looks between the three of you. “We’re daughters of three of the most powerful families in Konoha. I really don’t think he’s stupid to try anything.”
You aren’t so sure, but clearly Nori hasn’t had any problems. You sincerely doubt the man would brazen to try anything on the daughter of the Hokage, or the Heiresses of the Norihime or Hyuuga clans. It would be suicide.
“Speaking of our families,” Hinata pipes up,”Isn’t it a bit odd that the three of us are together?”
“Probably a political move, I’d wager”, you respond quickly, your mind quickly resolving the question. “Tie three of the most influential families of Konoha together, and keep them safe at the same time.”
You groan. “We’ll probably be chasing a lot of cats.”
Nori echos the sentiment “Maaaaan. I was hoping for some extra-special kunoichi training, you know? Ehehehe.”
You don’t know. Probably not worth knowing, either.
Either way, you will be able to confirm your suspicions soon enough.
Everyone seems to be filtering out of the classroom, with Mizuki and Iruka handing out the Leaf Forehead protectors as people go.

Hinata hesitates. “I would like that…”, she starts,”But I need to head over to the compound. Father will be waiting for me.”
Not too surprising. From what you understand the Hyuuga family is a strict one.
Now you’re stuck with Nori, though.
The three of you head out of the classroom, collecting your headbands, and saying goodbye to your former sensei. After leaving the Academy, Hinata splits from your group to head towards the Hyuuga compound. As Nori and yourself bid her farewell, you turn towards Nori as she asks you a question.
“So where to, Princess?” She gives you a toothy grin.

So what should our backup weapon be since were basically playing a mage. A staff/bo maybe one that unfolds into a massive fan (cue shenanigans with Temari), or maybe something symbolic like a mirror shield? obviously we'd pick up a much more basic version of whatever we choose on this shopping trip.

Right, time to head to the Weapons Shop. That’s what the offer was predicated on, after all.
“Well, I figure we can head over to Tenten’s family’s place. We can stock up on whatever supplies we need for tomorrow and onward.” you answer.
“Weapons, eh? Sounds good. I probably need to pick up a few more ranged weapons- although I’m more of a close range kinda girl” Nori laughs, and throws a few quick jabs at the air.
The two of you head along the pathway towards the shop, mainly focusing on not losing each other in the crowd. Konoha is busy this time of year, with both the Genin examinations, and the spring Chunin exams being scheduled very soon after. It’s a shame you’ll probably be too busy to watch.
Nori picks up the dropped conversation once the crowd begins to thin out.
“Is there anything specific weapon wise you’re looking for? Not to tease you or anything, Princess, but you aren’t like me. Up close and personal combat doesn’t really seem your thing, you know?
“Well I am most certainly not like you.” you retort, although maybe not as harshly as you once might’ve. “I’ve got a few things I’m considering.”
“Oh?” she says inquisitively, “like what? Now I’m curious.”

Alright. Money is no object. You are, however, limited by what you can carry.
Stocking up on supplies is a given. Seeing primarily
1. War Fan. Could be used as both a ranged throwing weapon and a close range weapon. Can be snuck in places where more traditional weapons may not be allowed.
2. Naginata. Long spear used to keep enemies at a distance. Still primarily a melee weapon, you'd need to train up your strength to use this weapon more effectively.
3. Bow. Both Shortbows and Longbows are available. Great range and rate of fire once practiced. Can be difficult to aim at fast targets, and can put you in a disadvantage during close-range fights or one-on-one duels.

I'll breakdown bows, a little further.
A longbow or a crossbow are both viable, but are heavy and somewhat cumbersome to switch out to on the fly- they'd be your more primary weapons. And Anon is right, a longbow would require some strength training to use as well. Not as much as the naginata, though.
Shortbow is lighter and easier to swap in for other weapons or put away. Easier and faster to fire, as well.
You can buy more than one, of course. You could probably buy out the whole shop if you wanted. But that would be irresponsible.

You let Nori go first. It’ll better to surprise her if you can keep your choices a secret until tomorrow. True to her word, she only seems to top off her basic supplies of tags, kunai, paper bombs, and the like. She seems very confident in her skills.
After she makes her purchases and wanders off a bit to browse, to flag down Tenten.
“Come to a decision, Tsuki-hime?” she says with a smile.
“I would like a war fan, I think. Metal.” You state, matter of factly.
“Very like you, Tsuki-hime,” she laughs. “Anything else?”
“A shortbow, and two quivers full of arrows. Standard metal tipped wooden arrows, for now.”
You figure if you decide to stick to ranged combat you could spend more money on more customizable or chakra-conducting materials. Best not to spend father’s money frivolously.
“Yes ma’am!” she salutes, then runs off to gather your new things. Always happy to get the sale, that one. Not that you don’t enjoy spending the money, though. You catch yourself before you start laughing aloud again.
As you wait, Tenten’s head pops up from around the corner.

As you finally come upon the manse grounds, you can see him. Danzo, a friend of your father’s from way back. He’s probably been watching over you all night, knowing him. When he began getting too old for active ninja work, your father took him on as a “butler”- although it primarily in name only. He’s more your bodyguard than anything else, and gave you a decent amount of your training. The actual serving duties fall to the legion of maids your father employs. Including the head maid, Maru. She’s been something of a surrogate mother to you, in some ways. She’s never been afraid to tell your father off, either. He usually just laughs it off as she fumes at him, though.
He greets you as you pass through the gate. “Welcome back, my lady. Decided to play nice with the Hokage’s daughter?
“If she’s to be my teammate, I must. To do otherwise would be a waste of time- despite my personal feelings.” you respond. This is probably another of his tests- of which there are many. There is no price for failure of course, but you can always tell when the old man is disappointed in you.
He laughs. “As if out of a textbook, Tsuki-dono. I see you remember my lessons well. Just remember, leaders make tough choices. There may come a day where you have to sacrifice one of them to save the village. Not a pleasant thought, I know, but as a shinobi you must be prepared.
“I know, Danzo, I know.”
You wave the old man off, for now. You’re getting hungry, and you doubt the old man is going to throw more tests at you before dinner with your father.
“Ebisu stopped by earlier. Dropped off a letter for you. One for your father as well, which I’ve already delivered.” Danzo says, his tone slightly more serious. “Your training is to begin tomorrow morning at dawn, by the Memorial Stone. A somber meeting place, but I suspect his intentions are good.”
“Thank you, Danzo. I might stop by later, for a bit more training. I may need an edge, going forward.” you respond, mapping out your route for the morning.
“Of course, my lady.”

Anons have become a panic
You step inside the entrance hall of the manor, and are immediately assaulted with a thousand sounds and smells. Crashing, banging, and the distinct sounds of Maru’s voice commanding the waitstaff. “Dinner will probably be interesting tonight…” You muse.
You take this chance to head up to your room. The long hallways and empty guest rooms pass you by as you make your way to wing of the manor where both your father’s room and your own are. You’ll need to tidy up and change- Maru won’t have you dressed for the field whilst at dinner.
You open the door to your room- a small golden crown on a moon backdrop decorates your door.
Immediately you are enveloped in a sea of purple. Your dark ceiling with small white lights, representing the stars and constellations. It’s sad, isn’t it? A lonely girl named after the moon with a fascination with the heavens above… You cannot helped but laugh at how cliche it all sounds to you.
Wasting no time, you flop down on your fluffy bed, just taking a moment to absorb the days events. Training is tomorrow….
You hype yourself up. Of course it is! You’re a ninja now, just like your mother! Those lesser ninja shall know the might of the Norihime!
You exhale loudly, then rise from your bed. Quickly, you change into your dinner attire- a simple pale silver dress, with matching shoes. Nothing too flashy today. You’re too beat for it. Besides, nobody important is visiting, you needn’t doll yourself up needlessly.
