This is no longer an option, as a company of Sons of Horus were the ones to deliver the message to Russ, in person.
>>

Is it not then even more so, then?

>>
>>47304035
Horus is the Warmaster, ordained directly by the Emperor. To question the Warmaster is to question the Emperor, and as Kharn has stated, Russ never questions the Emperor.
>>
>>47304108
Even better when the orders are something that Russ felt was justified in the first place. See Wolf King.
>>
>>47304108 >>47304119

Fair enough, but one would think that killing a fucking primarch would necessitate a bit more confirmation with the chain of command. Yes, it confirms Russ' bias, which is just another problem he had entirely.
>>
>>47304181
Oh totally. In a way, I love that Magnus was fucked because he didn't follow orders, and Russ was fucked because he followed orders too closely. Tzeentch daemons and cultists keeping both sides in chaos certainly didn't help.

The king tells you to go arrest lord Qwerty and bring him before the king. The kings favored general sens a bunch of soldiers to tell you "nah, just kill lord Qwerty." You already got an order from the king himself, telling you to bring him in alive, and now this general tells you to kill him. If I'm loyal to the king, I will not ignore a direct order from him over an order that came through an intermediary.

So, once again BL makes HH characters into complete retards. In the old fluff the Emperor was quite clear to Magnus that if he played around with the Warp, he'd get fucked. He did it and Russ was given the order to satiate his murderboner. Now we make Russ into a retard who ignored a clear order from the Emperor he so loves and instead gets tricked into destroying a whole planet in another case of "uh-oh, spaghettios!"

Did the primarchs not get enough oxygen when they were babies, did the Emperor think extra chromosomes would make them better, or what?

>implying Russ hasn't always been totally retarded.
>>
>>47304331

>>
>>47304303
>favored general
Wrong. The Emperor in all but name. Horus was intended to be everything the Emperor was, not just militarily, and was to be followed in all respects.
>>
>>47304331
Look, I'm fine with dumb barbarian Russ just itching to skull fuck someone if the Emperor so ordered. But if you're going to make him both follow the Emperor's orders unquestioned and then get tricked by "yo, bro, so dad changed his mind on the order he just gave you and he wants Magnus ded, ok?" It's HH levels of retarded.

It smells of nothing but FW needing some reason to stick more legions on Prospero.

>>47304412
Well, clearly you have some sources to present where Russ holds Horus in equal regards to the Emperor and would not question the Emperor changing his mind on an important order by delivering it through an intermediary.
>>
>>47304487
>Well, clearly you have some sources to present where Russ holds Horus in equal regards to the Emperor and would not question the Emperor changing his mind on an important order by delivering it through an intermediary.

Not him.

>>
>>47304487
>It smells of nothing but FW needing some reason to stick more legions on Prospero.

I don't consider FW as really solid canon. According to Laurie Goulding, the FW HG books are written as in-verse documents from an in-verse character whose name initials are AK. Him/her wasn't present for most of these events and I don't trust him/her work.

>>
Didn't Horus pick up the order and then change it before forwrding it to Russ?
>>
Do you think the Emperor would have eventually tried to do something about the Machine Cult?
>>
>>47304586
If you have two people with equal authority giving conflicting orders, only a complete retard would not get confirmation from the highest source. Horus might speak with the Emperor's authority, but the Emperor still trumps Horus.
>>
>>47304643
I wouldn't trust Laurie on that completely. And there is a Sister of Silence who's initials are AK. I wonder who that could be.

>>
>>47304814
That does make it sound like Horus doesn't just come and give Russ an order or pretend he's delivering one from the Emperor. If that was the case, he wouldn't need to "convince" Russ that Magnus needs to die.
>>
>>47304833
If Laurie said something wrong and harmful about any of GW's products, he would be fired within minutes. So far no one from FW or GW protested.

I imagine that the Emperor had several plans on the backburner, he's waited ~40,000 years before setting the great crusade in motion. Eyewitness accounts aren't 100% accurate either.

BL novels would have been so much better if they had been from the perspective of people around the primarchs and the Emperor, rather than the primarchs and the Emperor themselves. Now they just come off as morons with daddy issues, but when you're seeing their actions from the perspective of others, it gives some distance and you can do away with a lot of conflicting info by the simple fact that it's from a subjective point of view. Two people seeing the same event can interpret the situation differently.

You also don't have to have someone important present in every event, the protagonists can go on their own adventures and then join up with the important people. Or simply seeing events completely detached from the primarchs and the Emperor. Like imagine if Prosperot was told entirely from the point of view of a TS marine and a SW marine, who have no knowledge of what's going on with the higher-ups, but just have to follow through with orders and try and survive. Why are we fighting our allies? Orders are orders.

Furious charge with +D3 to combat resolution with Shred and Rampage, Crusader and can only be wounded on 3+, with the option to pseudo-smash to deal with those annoying automata (like Beepious Boopius). It's nice.
His forts can be used for regular humans too, but it's kind of an overlap when used by his marines.
Oh, and it renders the IW ammo completely useless :'(
As if Ld9 didn't already made it useless
>>
I wish Morty's self-made armour was something better than mere Artificer with Iron Halo. Rocha's makes him completely immune to poison and rad. Dorn's makes him more resilient than him S9 and above. Only Angron's power armour is worse.
It even melts in book 4 (but Morty sweated out the melta shot).

What makes it even worse is Angron's armor is dubbed "The Armor of Mars." Fucking Mars, and it's no better than power armor and an Iron Halo. Then it wouldn't even be called the Horus heresy, now would it?
It's pointless to wonder what Angron would have been, besides "choppier than Lorgar", because all of it would be assumptions based on his sons being a bit more agressive than normal.

Refering to the "would still nail his legion"
Are you saying becoming a gladiator is a worse upbringing than being a feral boy in chaos-catachan Caliban/Fenris?
In fact, look at how different the Lion and the Wolf are, even though both are feral kids adopted by a king.
Maybe I should have been more specific: Angron wouldn't be Angron had he arrived on any planet other than Nuceria. Hell, he wouldn't even be named "Angron", but something else. I wonder how things would have been had Angron landed at mom's lap on Macragge and kid Roboute ambushed by Eldar on Nuceria.

Not him but yes I am. Both Lion and Russ eventually got adopted, Angron butchered some Eldar right after landing was picked up by some humans and lobotomized. From that point on literally nothing else mattered, Angron was defined by the nails.

>/HHG/, care for some alternate primarch homeplanets?
Fulgrim lands on Nuceria and is ambushed by Eldar. He is so beautiful that he is adopted by the rulers of the planet. Chemos had much more reason to kill Fulgrim than Nuceria did to enslave Angron and spared him on the grounds of "look at this glorious baby."

Being a gladiator on Nuceria certainly was worse compared to Fenris. I might not like Russ, but he was far more competent general than Angron which he proved during the Night of the Wolves. Russ can play for both objectives and to the last enemy as where Angron can fight for only the latter.
>>
>>47309698
I like 1d4chan's example, even if it's taking things to the extreme.
>Master of Ambush: What's better than going 'Creeeed!' on your enemy? To do so with a melee Legion. Yes, you can take off your commissar hat now. Grants Infiltrate to 3 squads...which grants them Outflank when coming out of reserves [WH40K 7E pg. 167]. Using Maru Skara, you can outflank 6 different squads at turn 2 (because Fulgrim allows you to re-roll reserves, and Hidden Blade'd squads do not count towards Max reserves [HH2 pg. 219]). And keep in mind your Children have Crusader. Creed can hide a tank? Fulgrim can hide half a company of supermen & bikes. This is only usable in mildly high point games, but then again, this is the GREAT Crusade. Overkill, you say? Ask the Loyalists how much did that hurt on the Drop Site MASSACRE.
And 3 of those units could be dread talons, meaning 9 Contemptors turn 2. Not that it's the wisest thing to do, but it's hillarious you can do it.
>>

>It'd be interesting to see Fulgrim's promise be prematurely consumed by unending rage. Can you imagine this face without the glorious mane, holding blood-drenched chainaxes, leading a legion that hits both hard AND fast?
While Fulgrim was specifically spared in a situation where they literally couldn't spare him so making him into a gladiator seems unlikely berserker Fulgrim seems like a fucking awesome idea.
>Fulgrim's innate speed and finesse combined with the savagery of Angron
>Charges headlong into battle followed by Palatine Blades and Phoenix Guard with butcher's nails
Probably wouldn't be hard to make berserker EC honestly

>EC keep their special units for the most part
>take world eaters LA rules in place of their own replacing +1 WS in challenges with +1 initiative
>Replace phoenix spears with an eviscerator that loses unwieldy the turn they charge
>Fulgrim loses his 3+ in CC and instead gains Angron's sire of the world eaters (existing challenge rules still work due to wound overflow)
Fulgrim gets some new weapon
>>
>>47309774
Master of Ambush only gives Infiltrate to 3 non-vehcile units.
>>

Not to mention, psychologically, I think there's a difference between having to fight for survival daily simply because that's the world, and having to fight for survival daily because someone else is forcing you to do so for their amusement, against people you might consider brothers. Really? I've heard others refer to them as "Space Catholics" because of "muh shame culture".
But desu apart from having the names of Judeo-Christian angels and wearing monk-like robes, I've not seen them have much connection to either IRL culture (and Catholic isn't an ethnicity either).
It is canon that at least a portion of post-Heresy Dark Angels were basically Native Americans, because of that whole story with a big chunk of the first company sacrificing themselves to save a planet with a culture similar to those.

THEN there's the added confusion because Caliban before it got blow'd up was a weird culture that didn't have an analogue as far as I know. And that whole aspect of the dangels having a poetry focus, what with their primarch literally being named after a poet, and their planet having a Shakespearean name.

It's more than a portion, it was their sole recruiting world for at least 6000 years after the fall of Caliban.

It's actually kind of upsetting how little focus is given to the Dark Angels various cultural identities and how they've affected the Chapter as a whole.

Spartan assault tank as dedicated transport w/ armored ceramite, flare shield, Laser destroyers.

All comes out to exactly to 2k points. The plan is to go all in with Morturg's warlord trait that lets you infiltrate 3 none vehicle squads.

Morturg joins the Praetor and his termies. Together they have -2 toughness on the charge and go after other terminator squads/expensive stuff. Morturg casts endurance and gives everyone EW, and fnp 4+ making it an extreme bitch to kill everyone.

The Grave Wardens can arrive in their spartan and that thing will blow vehicles up with its laser destroyers (now at close range) and have the GWs pop out and punch stuff with their chain fists or shoot a bunch of poison rounds at infantry.

The Tactical supports with plasma are my distraction carnifex and will take out what other expensive models/ scare the poop out of the other player. hopefully able to tank a few hits with the help of the Apothecary.

The other Death Shroud troops and Contemptor mortis march up the field, claiming objectives

Can always take away 1 Death shroud from each troops squad and add them to my HQ unit for more ap2 hits at -1 initiative at -2 toughness. Also can replace the tactical support squad with 6-7 heavy flamers if I need to melt some tar pits.

HERESY

Hey man feudal worlds need compasses.

And there we have it. Compasses are now heresy-proof and eight pointed stars remain heretical until proven otherwise.
>>
What did astropaths use to navigate before the emperor was on the throne?
>>
>>47312351
The warp used to be calm, and Navigators were able to easily plot warp routes by themselves using natural sources like early sailors used the stars, but the build up of energy that led to Slaanesh's birth made the warp unstable and FTL travel became impossible, fragmenting the Human Empire and leaving many worlds orphaned.
After Slaanesh's birth in M25 (?), Emps decided that the time had come and ordered the Astronomican's construction. He directed it via remote thought. The time that huge Ork was hugging him to death? He was half-concentrated in lighting the Astronomican (and it faded for a while, I think).

So, after M25, Navigators have been wholly ddependent on it.
>>
>>47312410
Slaanesh was born shortly before the great crusade, I think. Hundreds of years before rather than thousands.

What books should I read to learn about the Word Bearers?
>>
>>47312846
Slaanesh's birth was the reason why the warp storms calmed down, which was the reason why emps could start the crusade
>>
>>47301945
Literally, the Primarchs aren't such whiney assholes.

They understand that the Emperor wants to cease religious fanaticism and he is not a god, fight for his dream of humanity ascendant and understand that they dont really need to know what secret project the Emperor is working at on Terra.
>>
>>47313043
I thought Slaanesh' birth was what caused the Age of Strife and separated all of Terra's colonies and also fucked up the Eldar by causing mæssive warp storms
>>
>>47313369
the Age of Strife was caused by people being dicks and no one being strong enough to unite them.

So with 40k: Age of the Emperor looking more and more like a possibility each day, how does the future of HH and the $500 in black books look?
>>
>>47313966
Fuck off.
>>
>>47313308
but that's eighteen things, not one thing
>>
So I've read from Horus Rising to Fulgrim, but after that it seems like the narrative gets looser and the books aren't really in order. What should I read next?
>>
>>47309925
I have a question about maru skara, don't you have to have several detatchments for it to fully function? it says "If chosen as the primary detatchment" meaning I have to choose between open blade and hidden blade unless i have two detatchments?
>>
>>47313966
Considering Books 1-3 are already obsolete ruleswise with Books 5 and 6 becoming obsolete soon and the game is as strong as ever, no one cares if their "$500 in black books" goes away. People who buy the books buy them because they enjoy reading the fluff. The player base by now already knows if they wait, the units in the black books will end up in the red compilation books. Regardless of that fact, the black books still sell.

If the real question you're asking is if HH is forced into whatever the next edition is and that edition sucks? Well that's a different question. I imagine if FW is smart, they'll just make their own standalone rules book for HH which would essentially be 7th edition 40k.

No, the rite of war applies to your whole army no matter what detachments you bring, unless there are restrictions listed.
>>
>>47314674
First heretic followed by know no fear. Legion. Thousand sons and prospero burns.
>>
>>47314700
Its just poorly worded, you use both. Its just different benefits for your units that start on your board and for the units that start in reserve
>>
>>47314714
so I bring 1 Battles in the age of darkness FoC and that FoC has both open blade and hidden blade bonuses? or do I need to bring a second FoC?
>>
>>47314751
You can't bring more than one FoC in 30k. Maru Skara just means if you choose to use the RoW with your army. Look at pic related. That's the entire FoC you are allowed to take. Just means if the Primary, not the Optional sections, is Maru Skara you get the benefits.
>>
>>47314767
oh, now I get it... thats really weirdly worded then.
>>
>>47314810
Yeah, just don't look at it as saying"or" between Open and Hidden Blades. It's just being redundant for sake of being redundant.

I'm trying to test colours for Alpha legion but i think this guy is looking too much like a Son of Horus

add some more clear green and do your silver trim first before you decide to strip it.

my problem is it looks too green, imo

In honour of the re-launch of Epic being set during the Horus Heresy.
Whats your favourite/least favourite Legio and why?
>>
>>47315253

Space Marine Legion or Titan Legion?
>>
>>47313369
That was Slaanesh's gestation, building up turbulence within the warp. Its birth calmed the warp back again by disgorging some of that turbulence into realspace creating the Eye, but even with that the warp never calmed down to its pre-Age of strife state.
>>47313401
The Empire had to deal with Skynet, and after that, the worlds got stranded. They couldn't be rescued if nobody could reach them.
>>
>>47312221
Don't think I didn't read it, it's just I don't know what to think of footslogging termies in a tabletop that may contain phosphex, as well as a lack of AA. At 2k points you could find any of those, as well as enemy Spartans like the one you're bringing.
