Works better for smaller games. Big ones like DnD and Pathfinder have way too much variance in the playerbase.

Stop bumping a shit thread.

What if we judge a game by its most dedicated players? This should lower the variance you speak of significantly.

>What if we judge a game by its most dedicated players?
But then it's not representative of the player base as a whole. The variance is lowered but in the process a large portion of the game's demographic is cut out.

Would it not be instructive to examine the most dedicated adherents of a game?
>>47273933
That's A way to judge a traditional game.

>>variance in pathfinder players
Hmm

Probably but it would be a far cry from being:
>The only authentic criterion for judging a traditional game
I can look at the most dedicated fanbase for something like The Shining and Fight Club and while that would be very informative it would probably not give a proper understanding of those movies themselves.
An even better example (but more triggering on 4chan) might be political ideologies. Looking at those most dedicated to "leftist" or "rightist" ideals, they tend be pretty extreme and are often far removed from the majority of that group. Although they do tend to get more media attenuation which is a problem because it makes both sides look like frothing caricatures which only fuels more divisiveness.
The entire concept in the OP just reeks of putting irrational importance on distant generalisations. It's lazy as fuck and incredibly masturbatory. No one is going to care if you play a bad game. Just grab some friends, a free pdf and dice and play the damn thing for a night. You're time isn't that valuable if you post on 4chan.
If many of the people who play the game turn out to cunts, that's okay. If you like the game play it with people that are cool.
It's not rocket science.
