He kinda would be like Kaldor Draigo but less stupid. He doesn't do it for a higher power, he does it because there is some evil that needs killing! The fact that daemons come back after death just means he'll never be out of the job.

Definitely doomguy.

I think in the fluff of the new game, the demons were so panicked the only way to fight him was to seal him away in a forever toomb and put up giant warning signs do not touch or else... He kinda is the boogeyman of hell.
>>
>>47280576

>>

>plot

The plot of the game is 'You are the demons. Rip and tear until it is done.'
>>
>>47280611
At least it's acknowledged. Doom 3 tried too hard to have a plot.
DOOM sounds like it's telling you "you're the demon's nightmare. Remind them why you were locked."
>>
>>47280611
There is actually ingame wiki with descriptions of all monsters, weapons, maps and model viewer.
>>
>>47280584

The fluff is nice, but the plot is really shallow like >>47280611 said. Just find the ingame fluff somewhere on the internet and read trough it imo. Unless you like FPS games. Then sure its worth a purchase i guess.
>>
>>47280640
I like FPS games.
>>
>>47280627
I guess. I think Doom 3's plot was completely OK, but it would've been better if it played up the action angle more than the horror angle we got. Doom 3 plot + DOOM gameplay.

Although DOOM as it stands is more than acceptable. There's only so much you can say to a game with an opening cutscene that straight-up tells you to 'rip and tear' and then actively caters to your efforts to do that one thing so quickly. It goes from Zero to Rip And Tear from the start, and I fucking love that.

Pious could only stare. He saw his Emperor, his god, mortally wounded, bleeding out on the cursed deck plates of the flagship. He saw the angel of his Emperor laying further away, slaughtered like an animal. And he saw the perpetrator of it all, the betrayor, the Warmaster... no, the Heretic, Horus, avatar of the will of the dark gods. Pious could only watch in confusion and sick satisfaction as Horus was beaten to death by some soldier covered in blood screaming "RIP AND TEAR" at the top of his lungs. He looked to his Emperor, hoping for guidance, but the look on the Emperor's face only confused him more, for He looked even more confused. He looked back to Horus, and gaped. Horus, was dead, gutted, and the stranger was jumping into a warp portal screaming about huge guts. Pious could only laugh when he thought about what the God's would do now.

There's some really solid moments of little character building sprinkled in throughout the game for Doomguy similar to that. It's "fuck your justification, there's nothing to save here", as >>47283324 and >>47284411 points out.

Pretty impressive, given the deliberately limited nature of their characterisation, but I think I still prefer Wolfenstein's story (that was a massive surprise).

It's a little of both. On one hand, they're joking around with the player's expectations, because at this point we expect an exposition dump to get in the way of our murdering in an FPS, and on the other, they are adding characterization to Doomguy by having him go "Bored now, going to go kill demons."

Being completely serious, he gets fucking murdered. 40k Daemons are way worse than anything in DOOM's hell, especially the "psychic looks at you and you die instantly" variety of daemon.

But without psychic powers or a gellar field, Doomguy is either possessed nearly instantly, or literally dissolves. Physical matter cannot exist in the warp for long until a daemon takes over it or it simply corrodes to nothing. Kaldor Draigo does what Kaldor Draigo does because he's either a Beta or ALPHA psyker.

Lesser Daemons are ridiculously more powerful in the warp. Including the ability to turn intangible, teleport around, teleport you, lock you in a pocket dimension, possess you instantly, etc. And that's just the aligned lesser daemons, the random daemons of Chaos Undivided are way worse, such as those that become Possessed like cherubael, who can kill Warlord Titans. But again you have Greater Daemons like Lords of Drain, who can simply tell you to die, and you die unless you happen to be an absurdly powerful psyker

DOOM rockets are fucking pathetic. Not only is their blast radius god damn tiny, but we can actually see them moving, meaning Doomguy is just like thirty or forty miles per hour. An actual rocket propelled grenade travels so fast that you can't even see it if it's aimed at something close.

>>47288363
>xDDDD my may mays!

>>47288520
The blast radius may be tiny, but they explode vertically basically forever.
The explosion isn't a sphere, it's a cylinder.

I'd chalk that up just to bad game physics considering a blast of gases should expand like a sphere and not in a pillar. Fragmentary explosions aren't DEW's.

Technically speaking; The rockets were only pathetic because of game engine limitations. If you make one thing follow the universe's laws, then the other must follow suit.

Now, the one thing folks don't seem to mention is that in Doom 3, folks are getting possessed and undeadified back to back, but doomguy himself is having none of it. How would this be justified thus in WH40k?

We have no idea because there's no feats. For all we know the thing had an Achilles Heel or it was so large and incapable of actually striking him, like avoiding Ant-Man in the new marvel movie.

Or fuck he could have just pulled an Ant-Man and burrowed his way through the body because the Demon was too big to effectively fight him. The Titan couldn't do shit if Doomguy blew a hole into its heel with grenades and started crawling up inside its body and blowing stuff up from inside.

Kaldor Draigo killed a fucking Primarch and is a psyker. He's not comparable at all to Doomguy and would spank him in a fight. Not to mention that he has special Aegis Armor to ward him against shit like possession. Draigo's likely the single most powerful space marine alive after Abaddon. Possibly stronger. Depends if Abby can resist getting turned inside out by a high level psyker.

Bitch more. Draigo is canon regardless of how much of a Sue he is. Also the latest Grey Knight codex retconned the Mortarion's Heart audiobook, meaning the crazy fucker actually temporarily killed Motarion in a fight. On his own damn planet.

Also, even a Delta Psyker would be capable of turning Doomguy into goo. Psykers are bullshit and you need special wards or items to protect yourself from them. Delta is more or less where "instantly kills you by wiggling their eyebrows" starts. Everything up from there is exponentially worse. Dak'ir for example, either an Alpha or Alpha Plus psyker, flew through space at hypersonic speeds and cut a battle barge in half. Khayon, either a Beta or Alpha, hurled a several kilometer long ship with enough force that he Exterminatus'd the new homeworld of the Emperor's Children.

I wanted to like this game, I really did but it felt too off. Everything is pretty corridor-y and the art design is to similair to Halo. Don't get me wrong - I like Halo and its art style but it works for Halo. Halo is like supposed to be sleek military sci fi porn and it works well for that setting but not really Doom. Doom was always a cross between Evil Dead 2 and Aliens and everything in NuDoom looks like an ipod

All that aside, I could have forgiven the art style, the lame as fuck industrial techno soundtrack that every shooter has now and the colourless environments if the game's map design wasn't so awful. Just tight corridors or arena set pieces with wave spawning

>le I don't understand anything about the Warp
Daemons get their asses kicked in realspace because their ability to manifest is crippled. It's like a fish venturing out of water into a volcanic hellscape, it's toxic to them and drains from the available warp energy that allows them to invade the materium temporarily. Depending on the portal to the warp that was created to summon them in the first place, their energy may drain rapidly or remain for some time, but they will inevitably weaken and be kicked back where they came.

Also Chaos gets a shitload of stuff done. The entire Horus Heresy was one great plan enacted by the Chaos Gods to get back at the Emperor for stealing knowledge from them, as Horus was just a puppet to give Chaos perpetual war in the materium to feed and entertain them. Chaos' main interest isn't even in realspace for the most part, the gods and daemons only take partial interest in the affairs of mortals. The primary concern of Chaos is their endless civil war, the Great Game, the war for domination between the four. The war is truly eternal and will never end as the four will never let one of them rise up to seize absolute power, allying to put the most powerful down. It's why Abaddon's a fool. He thinks his Black Crusades and attempted conquering of the Materium matter at all to the Chaos Gods, when to them it's nothing more than a side-show for the real war.

You cannot stop the autism.

>All around him, he could hear the sounds of the future, of warfare and death. The thought that he >shared the guilt of the destruction of the Emperor’s dream was the greatest shame and sorrow he had >ever known.
>An end to it all would be a blessed relief.
>‘Oblivion,’ he whispered as he closed his eyes. ‘Do it. End me.’
>The barriers in Fulgrim’s mind dropped and he felt the elation of a creature older than time as it poured >into the void in his soul. No sooner had its touch claimed his flesh for its own than he knew he had >made the worst mistake of his life.
>Fulgrim screamed as he fought to keep it out, but it was already too late.
>His consciousness was crushed into the dark, unused corners of his mind, forever to be a mute witness >to the havoc wrought by his body’s new master.
>One moment Fulgrim was a primarch, one of the Emperor’s Children, the next he was a thing of Chaos."

As a CSM player I'm offended by this level of chaos dick sucking.

Daemons ain't shit. They ain't shit in realspace, and they ain't shit in the warp.

After the Traitor Legions fled to the Eye of Terror, they promptly went to war against each other and literally everything else in the Warp in a conflict called the Legion Wars that saw a level of bloodshed that made the Horus Heresy look like a border skirmish.

They stomped the absolute dogshit out of each other and all the daemon hordes that got in the way, conquered worlds for themselves or simply exterminated them out of spite and brutally enslaved or killed any warp creatures that fought back.

During the Abyssal Crusade a single chapter of SM went on the warpath and purged 400 worlds within the Eye. That was a single chapter.

Now imagine the damage nine Legions would do, rampaging through the Eye and killing anything that didn't wear their Legion's colors because fuck everything.

Nope, I wasn't trying to side with that guy but looking now it looks like I was.

I was trying to say nicely "please fuck off back to the 40k general"

You realize that just because a story is canon in 40k doesn't mean it's true, right?

Doomguy would've teared the demons from the inside. Notice how he is the only one to not get possessed. Motherfucker is too angry, to give a shit about warp-fuckery.

I want the buddy cop movie that is Doomguy and Draigo in the Warp.

>"Yes, brother."
>"Stop calling me that."

Can't have a war between the Chaos gods without Malal, anon. Sorry your geedubs can't canon right. Your Chaos is just food for Malal. Cry harder.
>>

The Eye of Terror isn't the Warp. It's a Warp Rift. The Immaterium itself is a wholly different dimension/universe lacking normal physical laws. Entering it without divine protection, psychic mojo, or gellar fields leads to you being possessed by a daemon or getting dissolved by warp energy. What the Abyssal Crusade did and what Nine Legions would do would have fuck-all to do with the Warp itself, but those who set up shop in the rift where the two realities meet.

Being too angry doesn't defend you at all from being possessed, but rather makes you Khorne's bitch. Being too angry in fact can lead to possession or corruption by elements of Khorne.

>>

Yes you can, because Malal hasn't been canon for fucking decades. What you think doesn't matter, the only thing that matters with canon is the holder of the Intellectual Property. Mala's IP owner quit GW and thus legally Malal cannot exist in 40k without GW getting sued to shit.

Which is good riddance because Malal is a pointless concept as he is already covered by Tzeentch and Nurgle.

Seeing as the conflict & contradiction amongst Chaos hasn't died down since ever, Malal's concept is still there. He's Chaos vs Chaos in any shape or form.

Nope. You're thinking of D&D. This is actually fairly important regarding, say, Kaldor Draigo, considering it notes that nothing he does in the Warp has a long term effect -- especially considering time is largely arbitrary as well there.

And I'm sure doomguy would wreck every eldritch abomination on sight. Even if said sight is fucked up by being in a time bubble in 9 dimension.

Kharn was killed in the Siege of Terra, his body broken and clinically braindead.

He was so angry about this fact that he came back to life, healed his wounds, and killed everybody around him.
>>
>>47289853
I thought Khorne did that.
>>
>>47289700
This is what chaos-spergs actually believe.
I-it's like they don't know that more than demons inhabit the Warp - that there are things in the warp that eat demons.
>>
>>47289867
It's never been elaborated on. What seems to go on is that Kharn is so god damn angry that Khorne brings him back whenever he dies because he's the angriest motherfucker in 40k. Even made him his avatar.

Most likely if Doomguy ended up in 40k, he'd ended up BFF's with Kharn. Considering that Kharn spends most of his time killing daemons and chaos space marines because he doesn't understand the meaning of blue on fucking blue.
>>
>>47289795
Anger is a Loyalist trait. Anger is righteous.
>>
>>47289886
Those are daemons as well. If you're talking about Enslavers, if they're even still canon, they're more likely some form of unaligned daemons.

Unaligned daemons mind you are curiously way more fucking powerful than the things that are bound to a god for no good reason. Just look at how OP Possessed Hosts are unchained compared to a Lesser Daemon Herald.

There's also the giant daemon whales that eat ships.
