I've thought about that, but that'd be pretty damn powerful, even more so than the melee version, since you can more easly cluster ranged units around a hero than melee ones, who'll need to engage the enemy at some point.
>>
>>47149241
Maybe some kind of bonus when Stormcasts attack the last unit he attacked?
>>
>>47149194
Warior-Priest is the best mini hero-side, but...

...check out those Tzaangors! Hell's bells, those are gorgeous.

Really, so far I don't see any really bad mini among the revealed stuff. Maybe the dork elf, but I'd need a clearer shot of either.
Also, Gryph-hound box when?

C A :
All flying stormcast (forgot the name) rerolls their failed wound rolls

Shooting phase + inescapable vengeance looks very strom... maybe word Stormblast like : If a unit one of more wound from blabla

since now it looks like you can put a nice -6 with luck.

I would also give the javelin 1 damage and a rule so that it adds D wounds to models with 3+ hp, it would make it not as op against tarpits.

I love how the dude on the far right screams '80s.
Priest is good, stormcast has nice pose.
AoS dwarfs or whatever they are called, are shit, and this one goes in the same line.

Tzaangors so far look good. They will look better woth better pictures.

So far, models are AoS standard. Hot or miss. There is no middle ground.

All in all pretty meh. Tzeench stuff looks good if you dig that kind of stuff. Worries me about the direction the new Elf stuff takes.
>>
>>47149272
Hmm, maybe something that works in conjunction with Stormblast Impact? Maybe rerolling charge ranges or something?

>>47149482
Good point on the Stormblast & Inescapable Vengance synergy, I totally overlooked that. That's too strong. I thought I had that covered with 'at least one wound', but that's obviously not enough.
I'll replace the sentence with the following:
>If, *at the end of a turn*, a unit has suffered at least one wound from *any* Stormflight Javelin, reduce its Move and Bravery by d3 until your next hero phase.

I'm not entirely sure d3 damage would really bother any tarpit too much. It already has a 33% chance to miss, and after that a 33% chance of failing to wound, nevermind pssible saves.
Am I maybe missing something here?

Well remember that you can use missiles weapons even in close combat during your shooting phase, so an average turn you'll have 4 shot so possibly 0 to 12 dead, then you have your close combat attacks.... On the turn you charge you have 6 shots total thanks to your rule.
Maybe he doesn't like the (albeit small) chance you have to evaporate a 20-25 man tarpit in a single round via attacks and the awfull battleshock after you killed 15 guys and when they have -3D bravery

>>
>>47150221

>>
>>47150365
by my math, on the turn he charges he'd have a total of 4 attacks with the javelins, otherwise it'd be 2. How do you get the additional 2 shots?
Still, that might be a bit much. How about knocking down the bonus from Inescapable vengance to a single shot?

>>47150378
Made it myself. Should I post the templates?
>>
>>47150677
Yes please
>>
>>47150365
If you annihilate 15 guys, the averade -2 to bravery wouldn't be much beyond a drop in the bucket.
Also, two shots in the shooting phase, two shots in the charge phase (i.e. maybe twice a game, if you're lucky) and two decidedly shitty gladius swings, that'd be at most 14 wounds, assuming you roll like you just won the lottery and your opponent fucks up every single save. Still plenty, but a charging celestant on dracoth has a potential damage of an easy 36 wounds plus a bunch of mortal wounds.

From what I've seen so far their fluff is more interesting than the factions that received a battletome so far

or at least the premises and the small snippets of narration are
>>
>>47150948
General reception of the fluff was pretty positive, too. But the lack of *actual* new units as opposed to the gorgeous new stuff in Silver Tower kinda stiffled the release.
>>
>>47151011
Yeah, that was rather disappointing on GW part, even the rerelease of the older kit could have worked should have they put a bit more inventive in presenting the "heroes" with peculiar color schemes, markings or simple conversions.

The hero of the crypt flayers for example is identical to the crypt flayers except for the additional small pair of wings, but in the background it fed on a dragon carcass and gained something from it, was it reflected on the model with a rather draconic skin color or luminous effects in the recesses of the model or even the emphasis on the foul breath it should have with more greenish spots.

It all came out as painfully lazy and half assed which I'm led to believe was the case at this point.

I'm looking forward what they could made up with the other double kits like the elven ones:
shadow warriors heads and avelorn sis' bows for dark elves ranged daemonic hunters for example?

>>
>>47152314
Well that alone is a problem in itself, the fact they didn't bother to create rules for like Bone-breakers or Throgg-like Troll Kings. Why do some factions have to suffer due to GW's laziness?

Still though for a 'normal' 6 wound hero on foot he's insanely good. Maybe that 'pull in a unit of anything' Chaos lord compares, but nothing else does.

It made sense with pistol users in WFB but now we're supposed to believe that it's feasible for a crossbow user to reload and fire whilst a chaos beast is clawing at them AND be able to fight in melee.

It's basically made picking units that don't have ranged weapons a waste of time because you can offset the weak melee by attacking twice a turn.

Okay, here's another attempt.
- Reduced the shots granted by Inescapable Vengance to one.
- Clarified the wording on Stormblast Impact, making it hopefully clear that it can only affect a unit once per turn.
- Added the command ability 'Bringing the Thunder'. The idea here is to have a ability that is kinda hard to make use of, but potentially powerful.

I've also considered shifting the Stormflight Javelins from Attacks 2 and Damage d3 to Attacks 1 and Damage d6. Maximum damage would stay the same, but average damage would be lower and overall damage would spikier, giving it more of an 'all-or-nothing' feel.
Also, still not happy with that command ability.

Format was: 50 qounds, one monster , one named character, minimum 20 models.
Shitty format with so many comps around but eh, whatever.
Its a lgs i went only a couple of time because of MUH JOB(also, i didn't know they were playing Aos)so i had no idea how competitive they were.

the lists were all tailored to the torunament, so EVERYONE had a big kit.
Those are some of the player i saw, we were 15-20 people:
1 nagash
1gottkin
1witch elfs with cauldron of blood
1 stormcast
2 lizardmen(both with the machine of the gods)
1 malal
No archaons
i couldn't bring orcs(I have a nurgle/plague orcs list)so i just brought what i have of purec chaos. aka shit.
1 chaos sorcerer lord
5 blightkings
1 lords of plagues
15 plague monks(lol)
and 20 plaguebearers ready to be summoned.

I already know, but when i saw the lists i know i was fucked.
in the end, I placed 7th lol
Then, i went for my first game.

i played against a witch elfs player with:
20 witches
1 cauldron of blood(HOLY HELL THAT THING IS INSANE)
1 reaper bolt thrower
1 morathi
5 chameleon skinks(lol, everyone had those fuckers, EVERYONE)

It looked like i had no chance. game was "inflict more wounds". We basically killed stuff and counted the wounds we inflicted, so summoned units were useless.
he began the first turn, deployment was pretty standard-everything in a line expect for my mage hidden behind a house to avoid getting shot.
Skins deep striked and tried to shot my wizard to death anyway, but failed by one wound-and-no idea why-they didn't charged him.
His witch elves run forward. i still have no idea why, going into my charge range.
His reaper bolt thrower almost killed my lord of plague(the most USELESS unit i saw in aos so far).

I got the chance and xcharged his witch elves with epidemus, the plague monks and the blighkings. I rolled average but he saved EVERYTHING, he literally rolled only 5,s and 6's on save and i only killed 6.
(cont.)
>>
>>47154210
Remember, he ate Ushoran and took his shit along with his domains.
>>
>>47154905
>itch elves with epidemus
typed that wrong, epidemus actually charged morathi.

After that he just slaughtered almost all my blightkings and hit hard skaves too, and when i finally managed to kill them the bolt thwower decimated all my skavens in 2 turns.
Morathi refused to die because of HORRIBEL dice rolls with epidmus and even managed to kill him. The wizard survived tho, he summoned 10 bearers who charged-and eventually killed the skinks.
At the end of the game, because of his first turn mistakes i managed o inflict 35 wounds while he inflicted 40, so it was a tie in the end. Not too bad.

next game: stormcast with order allies, probably one of teh stronger lists for the tournament.

blighkings, absoluetely. Every 6 on hit becomes d6 automatic hits, they are insane.
Plague monks ahve a LOT of shanenigans, but they REALLY need an incenser and/or verminlord to be actually decent. i mean, they have no save at all.
the plague lord is garbage.
Its weaker than a single blighkings, his command skill is useless etc etc.
Epidemus works great but ONLY in bigger games. in a small game like this, he was useless.

I managed to get a tie because he played bad, like, really bad. He had the game in his hands but he rushed with the witched just to get them charged(if he rolled worse that was a mistake that could have changed the game-and it fact it had)and he didn't charged with the stinks leaving the time to reorganize and summon.

Second game!
Objective 40k-like scenario: only non heroes-non monster could control them.
5 in total., one at the center.
This was my opponent, who had a list PERFECT for this game(also, we had to field on the short side of the table, so i had no chance to reach his objectives in time since the game ended in 4 turns and my unit moves max FOUR INCHES)
1 celestant prime
1knight vexilor
6 retributors(HOLY SHIT THE STAR MACES)
5 dwarves armed with guns(cant remember their name)
1 cannon

he sat his cannon on his edge of the table, put the dwarves on the other one and advanced with the retributors. he just had to deep strike to fuck all my objectives(summons couldnt take objectives so i had only skaven and blightkings to hold them....).
I was done.
i tried anyway.
I camped my skaven on my objective and advanced with everything else. I summoned my bearers to give extra muscle.
Second turn.
Holy shit.
HOLY SHIT
i have no idea why, but he used vexilors ability on the retributors TO MOVE THEM 10 AHEAD AND CHARGE MY PLAGUEBEARERS
WHY
WHY
then
on the second turn
HE DEEP STRIKED WITH THE CELESTANT PRIME
ON TURN 2
Also, HE ATTACKED FIRST WITH RETRIBUTORS
Pic related, i couldnt believe it
>>
>>47155257
...why? The vexilor is basically custom-made to shunt retributors around to asassinate some high value target, not have them eat some scrubs that can be easily resummoned.
>>
>>47155435
he also lost the chance to steal my objective. I still have no idea why, but his mistake cost him the game.
the retributors obviously proved to be terrible, my shit heroes-epidemus and lord of plagues just scratched them and got obliterated into oblivion, but that took 2 turns and in the end the retributors took the central objective. lord of plague sliterally died in one turn.
the best thing tho is the celestant. He missed the chance to attack first and so 20 angry skaven attacked him, full attacks. Thats 30 foetid blades attack and 7 woe staves; i got a few 6s and he DIED like a girl.
Pic also related, its the celestant before charging.
the game went on, the blightkings killed the dwarves and took one objective but my heroes and the plaguebearers couldnt stop the retributors from taking the central objective, and somehow the shitty tournament rules allowed his cannon cre to be a legal unit to take the other one, so in the end it ended 2-2.
(even tho the FUCKER told the store owner he had 3 objectives and i discovered that just an hour ago or so. he said "I didn't win just because im not used to aos, im from whfb". Who figured)
Not bad so far! mind my final placement was considering i lost this one instead of beign a tie.

That's adorable. Ghoulbros are best bros.
>>
>>47155582
Did the fucker borrow the stormcast or something? Because the Celestant Prime looks to be nicely painted, so I have some doubts towards him being not used to it.
Also, for somebody being from WHFB (a shitty excuse at any rate), he sure made a impressive number of tactical blunders.
The Celestant Prime eating a couple dozen attacks and ending up dead doesn't surprise me. He has no business engaging units and really shouldn't even go after heroes, he lacks the attacks and the damage for either. He's there to shoot a *really* powerful gun and maybe engage some warmachine or squishy wizard, but not much beyond that.
It's annoying how the game ended, but you can at least claim moral victory, I guess.

I really like the Flesh Eater Courts and will buy the big box and 2 boxes of Crypt Ghouls for sure but why oh why couldn't they give them/us at least 2 new units? A plastic Varghulf and a multipurpose Abhorrant Ghoul King/Carrion King centerpiece *sigh*

1d4chan.org/wiki/Ushoran
>In Age of Sigmar, Ushoran somehow managed to survive the complete destruction of the old setting. Nagash initially trapped him in a cage called the Shroudcage. Ushoran escaped, although now since he has gone completely mad and sees himself as a noble of high refinement in a court of majestic gold, with his followers as regal men and women behaving as if they are what they see. This madness is contagious, and his new Ghoul Kings (called Abhorrent Ghoul Kings) cause this delusion to any of their followers by proximity. Ushoran has been running amok through the setting and the Realms, infecting any locals to join his insane and rabid packs and consume those who are disagreeable to their delusions. These factions join all sides, draw from all sides, and war against all sides in an unpredictable clusterfuck that messes with everyone equally. Nobody likes them, and Nagash is actively hunting them down with a promise of great rewards for any being who comes to a Mortarch with any information on Ushoran (said reward is probably some form of undead, maybe rank in Nagash's forces).

Thanks to him appearing everywhere, he has picked up an impressive list of new names and titles his followers across creation have given him.

Wait, someone already has the new Battletome?

he bought them but had them painted by the store owner. and he died because he didn't attacked first. prioritizing targets and deciding who shall attack first is a big part of aos tactic, and he completely ignored that.
Whfb required a lot more tactic if played properly, but he looked the kind of guy who just bough the strongest list and put it on the table...the best part? he kept complaining about he "plays only for fun"wit his"casual list".
top kek.
Third game was better, played with a seraphon player.
There were 3 objectives on the board and we gained 1 victory point for every model fully standing in them at the end of EVERY turn. the center objective gave 3 for every model instead but it was smaller.

he had 20 chamaleons(lol),
an engine of the gods
a slann starmaster
10 saurus guard

Again, my list was shit and his was terrifying compared to mine(dat engine) but he lost by a LOT of mistakes.
i began by summoning a unit of plaguebearers in frnt his saurus guard, protecting the objective. With the plague monks i advanced to the left obj. and the blighkings advanced to the center. I baited him to charge the bearers so i could countercharge later with the kings.
And he took the bait, even if his slann ability command gave them the ability to FUCKING FLY and take the onj. Nope, he charged.
he focused his engine on the plaguebearers(lol)and tried to charge the skaven, but thanks to the doom bell he failed the charge.
the chamaleons, instead of ccapturing the objectives to farm points, went for the kill and tried to snipe epidemus and the skavens. he got asap a new turn so he finished the charge with the engine anyway, while the bearers finally died. Not a big loss.
I countercharged with the kings, escaped combat with the skaven, summoned another unit of plagueberares to charge the engine but moved my lord of plagues there too who charged the engine alone because the bearers failed(and horribly died without wounding it nor stalling for even one turn),
>>
>>47156075
in the end he realized his mistake and teleported the chamaleons on the right objectives. the blightkings got almost no points from the center objective because i had to fit them COMPETELY on the base, and only one could fit in8and that's kinda retarded since everyone borught different bases).
Epidemus eventually charged the slann-and died, because he is useless. But i farmed enough points to win, 33-16.
In the end, I did pretty good, 7th place on 16 people is not bad at all considering everyone tought i would be the last and considering how shitty my list was; next time ill speed paint my soon-to-be-mine stormcast eternals and bring a REAL force. hopefully i can convince them to use any other comp, because wound count is just ugly.

Sorta like how GW giants are really well endowed.
>>
>>47155868
Well, there is the new arrangement of ghoul king on zombie dragon, for what it is worth.
>>47155928
Some of the stuff is mentioned in the novels, I think.

How about you throw out the Inescapable Vengeance ability and give him something like the Ogre Hunter has:
>can shoot his throwing spear even after running
>if doing so, spear gets higher range and damage
Also, just give him 3 attacks at 3+/4+/-/1 in melee
For a Command, how about

Storm Front
If the Lord Celestant uses this Command Ability until your next hero phase, all STORMCAST ETERNALS within 9" (including this model) add #1 to their Wound rolls when they attack in the shooting phase.

Love the model by the way.

so lemme get this straight. It's a small squad of Order Heroes (and a Gryph Hound) versus a whole troupe of Tzeentchian Gor and Gaunt Summoner horror show?

Okay, sign me the hell up. This is just the excuse I needed for a small Tzeentch force. I just wish Forsaken were still around...

I have old VC battalion (10 ghouls, 20 skelly and zombie) a necromancer and a banshee. Can i start this money pit?

Thanks for the batrep, dude. Interesting stuff.
I take it your heroes underwhelmed you?
A personal favorite is Gutrot Spume. His command trait is kinda janky, but he can slug it out with most opponents.
>>
>>47156304
Sure, it's even a pretty decent starting force. Plenty of units and a solid spread of heroes. You'll probably need a leader, both necro and banshee amke for poor generals.

Maybe invest 50 bucks into one of the Start Collecting! boxes to give you more options. Those bundles are great value and plug some holes your army would have, like mobility, punch and a lack of command abilitiy.

>>47156144
Thanks for the batrep / makes me wanna play again: that Stormcast player sounds like a cunt
>>
>>47156186
Inescapable Vengance is kinda the trademark of the Lords-Celestant, every single version possesses a variant of it (usually granting a charge bonus), so I'm kinda loathe to give it up. I kinda set out to avoid copying the Hunter or the Runeson, the two other prominent spear chucker heroes.
It's a shame, really, because that ogre one is a damn cool ability.
Wouldn't the melee profile be too good, too? He'd hit harder than the melee variant using a warhammer, at least.
The command ability is surely a good idea though, albeit maybe with reduced range (~6"). I'll keep that in mind if/when the new one in >>47154800 doesn't work out.

>>47156456
You are welcome.
In the end, I had great fun-i was prepared to lose everything but I managed to get some good games in the end.
All the guys I met(with the exeption of the stormcast guy)at the tournament were pretty cool guys and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly.
My list was garbage-and i knew it-, I just wanted a fun time and it delivered. next time ill bring a better one tho(aka stormcasts), and keep my nurglites for narrative play.
>>
>>47156821
Had a taste of the Retributors and want a chance to unleash them yourself, huh?
>>
>>47156872
I already placed an order online a few days ago, but seeign them on the table just made me want to paint them and field them asap. the ability to deep strike and fuck shit up looks just too damn fun to be ignored.
So far i ordered a starter set
a celestant prime
1 box of dracothian guard to make some company to the one on the starter set
1 knight azyros to deepstrike better with the celestant
i will expand it only when ill be done painting. there's also that warhammer quest that calls me.
