Thinking of picking up an AoR book to supplement an Imperial themed campaign I'm planning to run for NY local 501st mates.

Which book would you ladz recommend for Imp shenanigans.

it is theoretically possible, but I'd wait for RO to even think of making it an actual theory, seeing as she might die and rey's ~24 or less, so she's got to survive to endor+2 years, which is unlikely given that RO is apparently gonna go and be an edgy shitbird "modern" "war movie", so randomly killing "likable" characters is a near-given

What is in your opinion, the best way to have Obligation and Duty in the same party?
>>
>>47147525
Just have it be there. It worked perfectly fine with my game: my players started as pure EotE characters, but when the AoR beta came out I started using stuff from that. They got embroiled in the Rebellion after going through Beyond the Rim, fighting the Imperials they came across and even telling an ex-Sep captain that joining the Alliance might be a good idea if he hates the Empire so much.
In the end they were at least part-time Alliance operatives who turned the tide at Hoth long enough to change history: Veers' walkers were stopped cold thanks to them and Rogue Squadron, forcing Vader's fleet to use TIE bombers and an orbital bombardment as a Plan B.

In the end they got butthurt because I wouldn't give them a battleship and now we're doing a KOTOR-era game
>>
>>47147525
>>47147551
What I'm trying to say is it's perfectly feasible to have a character with both and a Morality too, if they're Force-users. F&D actually has a section on crossovers, with a suggestion to use one roll for activating all three systems.

I'd also suggest letting people with Duty be capable of buying off their Obligation through roleplaying over time. Han did it in ROTJ, after all.
>>
>>47147590
Ís it not a lot of bookkeeping to have 2-3 of those to handle?
>>
>>47147631
In my experience? Not really. Like I said, there's an option for a one-roll check for all three.
Honestly you just really need to note down what each of them is: players will happily tell you what their Duty total is, that shit's beneficial, while Obligation can be woven into an ongoing plot if you look for opportunities.
>>
>>47147674
Also, players are likely to tell you when their Morality score has hit high or low levels too. I think we made our GM cry because he never, ever got any destiny points to spend at one point.
Don't worry, I fell from grace shortly afterwards!

I'm starting my groups first Edge/Age/F&D game soon, and could use some advice on what to put them against.

They are a Rebel cell sent to retrieve a storehouse of high-grade Bacta from a small Imperial base on a world that was bombed into post-apocolyptic status for refusing to bend the knee. I'm picturing a sort of Star Wars take on Mad Max for the first portion of the adventure.

They will start out crashing, utterly trashing their ship. Given the state of the planet, there will only be several other freighters on-world, and all of them owned by Raider/Crime Bosses who use them to smuggle slaves and goods on and off world. Negotiating or stealing one of these will be their first task.

Obviously, there will be repulser vehicle chases, raider warbands, slaves to free, a thunderdome equivalent, and so on. Some feral creatures stalking the deeper ruins. But, what else? Any ideas?
>>
>>47148590
Never forget that The Force is a part of Star Wars, and that doesn't only mean people who can use it.
Put in a segment somewhere with some vague but notably strange Force-related fauna or phenomena. Stress how utterly alien it is to these mere mortal plebs in the party, as well.
>>
>>47148787

I have one player who isn't really interested in Star Wars as a setting, and the only way he finds the sandbox interesting enough to play in is as a Jedi. I'm going to, basically, let him be Kanan from Season 1 of Rebels. So there will be an Inquisitor after them eventually.

That said, good point. Perhaps some dark side energy, manifesting like the shadows from Metro 2033. Or a plant that is still vital amongst all the ruin, making no logical sense, perhaps a small tree.

Roll20 has a shit community, but the WoD one has been plagued with shit that would scare most men into never playing again.

Here's a list:

Zentha C. (https://app.roll20.net/users/544195/zentha-c): Vicissitude is a virus a la Dirty Secrets of the Black Hand, usurps games and kicks out the GM, has a group of boytoys following her around and doing everything she ever asks for
Cheshire Cat (https://app.roll20.net/users/20463/cheshire-cat): Terrible at running a story and awful at lore, one of the worst GM’s played with
Apokh (https://app.roll20.net/users/217376/apokh): Captain snorefest the GM
Grayson (https://app.roll20.net/users/187557/grayson): Slow and text only, not reliable
Yvon R. (https://app.roll20.net/users/572805/yvon-r): This guy is a huge fucking asshole and has an ego so big that they could be monuments to it.
The Dungeon Mistress (https://app.roll20.net/users/501592/igari-d): Words can’t describe how bad she is, but she treats her players like they’re 5 years old and acts like a fucking cheerleader. She has to be center of attention and everything you say or do is a matter of opinion. Avoid her and anyone she associates with.
Wade C. (https://app.roll20.net/users/64637/wade-c): Apparently he’s terrible at running games and min-maxing is a huge problem in his games. He has run some 120+ games yet none of them last longer than a month…
Malkav (https://app.roll20.net/users/878533/a-malkav): Words can’t describe how terrible of a GM this man is. If you could genetically engineer stupid people, this guy would be the result.
>>

Mostly it was to get a feel for the Storyteller system; I'm running an Edge/Age/Force game in a months time, but next year I plan on doing a cWoD game. That said, I've listened in on several sessions recorded on Youtube, and it seems simple enough.

Might wait til a Fantasy Flight SW game is arranged on here. It's a system that, combined with being my groups Star Wars 'expert' I'm forever-GM. Get some use out of Roll20 that way.
>>
This makes me glad that I only use roll20 to play with people I know irl.
>>
>>47152850
I tend to avoid DnD like the plague. Namely because I've never had a good DnD game on Roll20. DnD is a minefield of shit that I refuse to wade through.

My recommendation is the check how much vested interest the GM has with the game, and how much he screens for Mary-Sue's and power gamers. If you feel like there's a Red Flag, there probably is and you should jump ship.

Would an ImpStar2 in orbit be visible from the ground? What about a victory class or an SSD?
>>
>>47156818
Short answer: Yes/No

Long answer: Cinematically: If it's not hiding and they're not electronically blind, they'll know it's there.
Realistically: if it's not hiding and they're not electronically blind, they'll know it's there but will see it as a bright star in the sky, like how you can see satellites or the ISS at night.
>>
>>47156818
Define orbit. But yes.

On a good night you can clearly see the International Space station as a fast moving white dot thing.

The ISS is about as long as a football/soccer field, and way thinner.

An ISD is about 16 times as long and way thicker.

It would be very noticeable, even if you only got the rough shape of it.

Know how you can see the rough outline of a passenger airplane at 30,000 feet? Think something like that, but instead of 10,000 meters/ 30,000 feet, we are talking 100 KILOMETERS/60 ish miles.

Of course, for intimidation purposes the Imps would fly closer.

A victory would be visible too.

One caveat, at night time they would be hard to see IF the SD was also in a planets shadow. But if the ISD is in the sun light but the planet below is experiencing night time, it would look like a big white triangle.

Alright, it's me again. I posted a few threads back about an Age of Rebellion game I was cooking up for a couple of players. This game is basically my homage to the crazy, beautiful Expanded Universe of old. The game is, essentially, just an excuse for me to showcase as much EU autism as I think my players can handle. It's set 4-5 years after ROTJ, as our players take part in a New Republic convoy mission through the debris field that was once Alderaan.

My players have come up with some great character concepts:
> Straight-laced son of a former dissident Imperial Senator. Coruscant native. Prefers the old republic to the new. Idolizes the extinct Jedi Order as the protectors of the Republic's ideals. Wears expensive Core World garb and uses a vibroblade (Spy-Infiltrator).

> Protocol droid, hastily reprogammed for urban warfare during a desperate last stand sometime during the Rebellion. Has violently resisted memory wipes and reprogramming since then. Lookes like a matte white 3P0 unit with painted-on angry eyebrows. (Hired Gun - Heavy)

cont.
>>
>>47157371

>Imperial Academy and Flight School graduate. Ex-TIE Pilot, which makes him huge fan of SPEED and borderline suicidal maneuvers. Territorial, paranoid, and not at all a fan of others getting their grubby hands on his flight controls. Essentially an autist with a talent for flying. (Ace - Pilot/Hotshot)

> Farm boy engineer from Dantooine who joined the rebellion because of binary_sunset.exe. Carries a Bryar rifle cut down to pistol size.

I also have 1 more player who's undecided on his character concept.

Essentially I'm trying to come up with some story elements. I'm trying to set the scene with a compelling introduction, where our heroes are lower ranking crewmembers on a New Republic freighter ship accompanying a convoy headed through the Alderaanian graveyard.

My plan is for them to get ambushed by Imperial Remnant troops and separated from the rest of the crew somehow. I'm thinking of having their ship rendezvous with or encounter another Republic ship. The ship might be transmitting a distress signal, or simply be unresponsive to their hails. The PC's ship will then dock with the Republic ship, and a team sent to assist/investigate. They won't come back. The ship is lure for a kill team of Blackhole stormtroopers (pictured above) who boarded and killed the original crew. It'll make for a decent encounter, and let the PCs take off in one of the two ships. Then there's a TIE Fighter encounter, as our heroes realize this was Bigger Than We Could Have Imagined™ before they find themselves caught in the tractor beam of a Star Destroyer that's lying in wait. A nice mounting of tension and a big "Oh shit" moment as I close the session.

Now, would it be too much to make it a Super Star Destroyer? I'm afraid my PCs will just feel outnumbered to the point of ineptitude.

Now, at the helm of this ship our heroes will find an Imperial admiral (or Grand admiral) in an uneasy alliance with a dark jedi. Together, these reluctant allies seek a Something™ that might turn the tide of the war against the Republic.

Now, I'm having some difficulty fleshing out the Dark Jedi. Part of me wants to keep his/her status as a jedi secret, so I can make a thing out of revealing it. Secondly, I'm unsure as to what his/her connection to the Empire should be. Inquisitor would be nice (pic related, love ya babe), though I hate the version of them in Rebels and wouldn't want my PCs getting any ideas. That might also mean they'd *completely* overshadow the admiral. Any ideas?
>>
>>47157903
>though I hate the version of them in Rebels and wouldn't want my PCs getting any ideas.
Easy enough. If the players get ideas, demonstrate the guy's power level. Show that he has actual chops instead of just being some expendable mine canary. Give him actual Jedi cred--saber form knowledge, a properly built lightsaber, knowledge of the Code, etc. Jerec was a former Jedi Master, after all.

>That might also mean they'd *completely* overshadow the admiral
Thrawn managed to keep Jerec in line. Less success with C'baoth but C'baoth was crazy. The Imp admiral just has to establish the fact that he's top dog and the one with all the resources and know-how necessary for running an efficient war machine.

So what do y'all think of the leaked VIII script?

Forgot to link in last post cuz I'm retarded.

https://m.reddit.com/r/StarWarsLeaks/comments/4egl1i/episode_viii_script_leak_please_debunkconfirm/

Yep, it's from Reddit, so take a mountain of salt with this pill.

But it makes some interesting potential points.

Do not click the dark bars if you don't want a discussion, even though I speak in vague terms just in case.

frankly I think the links to Buddhism make sense. The Jedi are basically Buddhist monks with laser swords, so this element of Buddhism isn't that far off anyway.

I personally think that it's PROBABLY fake, as the last "script reveal" for VII heavily featured Luke being evil or whatever, or at least played a much bigger role than he did.

I would say it makes a good Star Wars film, it's certainly watchable and I can see a decent writing team spitting this out, but I'm betting that it was a draft that got canned at best, and a fan talking out his ass at worst. I can't imagine their script security is that utterly shitty, and it's early enough that if it's true then the writers can make some changes just to avoid the spoilers.

>>
>>47161169
I can totally see Disney letting ideas they didn't go with 'leak' just so the the real film script is much more secure and/or they can identify exactly who is the one who's making off with the recycling bin from the writers room.

>Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker. Luke went to the first Jedi temple to better understand how the process works. He learned that the spirit of the chosen one is reincarnated by the Force every time the universe is thrown out of balance, which apparently happens on a semi-regular basis (Anakin was hardly the first time the chosen one reincarnated). This is why she's so crazy powerful with the Force (remember that Anakin blew up the Trade Federation donut ship by himself when he was like 8 years old).

>Rey was the product of a virgin birth, but midichlorians aren't mentioned (Luke says "you are a child of the Force").

Honestly, that's a pretty decent idea and I'm pretty sure its been kicked around /swg/ plenty of times.

So, I've got a bit of a pickle. One of my players doesn't know much about star wars and hasn't read the books, but he learned there were such things as cloaking devices. He passed the streetwise to locate a seller on Corellia in the Blue Sector... Then flubbed the negotiation, offended the seller who proceeded to walk off... But not after closing a briefcase of junk he had setting out. I stressed it was just junk multiple times, nothing of worth... The player decides he's going to take the briefcase. This is after they engaged a nemesis and they hadn't healed.
He failed the perception to notice the trip wire, faulted the athletics to dodge, and failed the resilience to endure the 12 damage anti personnel mine that was in the case. He's now bleeding out alone in an alley. What should I as the dm do?

Well, is your player the type of person to get snippy if their character dies?
Alternatively; do you think that this character should continue?
If yes: local person happens along, alerted by sound of explosion. They sigh, mutter about [seller name] getting their hooks in another tourist with more credits than sense, and drag the character off to the back-alley doc. The GOOD back-alley doc, not the sawbones by the pie shop.

If no, then....

Sounds like it's time for a rousing round of consequences. The player ignored your warnings multiple times. They deserve to pay the full price.
>>
>>47162001

I mean, if they've actually got like a "bleeding out" crit result, if there's not a doctor handy them's the breaks. But otherwise I'm pretty sure they should just have acquired a crit injury and passed out somewhere. If nobody finds him and is willing to pay for a doctor, well, you passing neighborhood back alley doctor would surely offer some obligation to get them healed.

Taking on additional obligation should be a player choice, one way or another. But the alternative is, y'know, snuff it.

I'm writing up an antagonist for a game I'm probably gonna run at some point. I just wanna know if my ideas are retarded or not. Also I don't have a name for him yet.
First some details on the game itself. It takes place between episode 6 and 7, and will have the players be jedi under the mentor-ship of Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn (I'm kinda picking shit out of the old eu because why not, my players don't really care) as they hunt for old jedi artifacts and holocrons and shit to help build a new jedi order.

Alright so the antagonist's backstory is:
He used to be a jedi back during the clone wars. Once he completed his training, his master pretty much just threw him onto a ship and sent him off to fight in the war. He was around like 25 at this time.
So the group of clones and him end up in what is essentially Space-Vietnam. Shitty ass jungle planet with droids all over, and the republic just seems to have forgotten about them. They stop getting shipments of supplies and eventually contact stops all together. The guy views the clones as not people under his command, but equals in this hell together. During this time he formed a serious bromance with one of the commanders. Around what would be the end of Episode 3 he manages to convince the clones to abandon the republic just as it has abandoned them, he also renounces being a jedi because, like the republic, they haven't done shit for him. Taking advantage of the fact that all the droids just seemed to randomly shut down, he and what clones have survived steal a few droid ships and get the fuck out of there.
>>
>>47162462
(cont.)
Him and the clones end up becoming a mercenary and bounty hunting group. Maybe not the best, but all that military training and years stuck in Nam-but-worse-and-in-space gives them an edge.
Eventually Vader and his inquisitors figure out there's an asshole who can use the force and has a lightsaber running around and go after him. (well not Vader himself, dude's got more important shit to do) Dealing with bounties and other such things are one thing, but inquisitors are a whole other ballgame. They managed to run for a good couple years, but eventually they get shot down and crash land on some backwater shit hole planet. None of the clones survive the crash, his lightsaber is damaged beyond repair, and the dude himself is pretty damn injured. He fills a crate with possessions of his brothers in arms and drags it to the nearest town.
At this point he constructs a new saber using the barrel of the blaster that his best bro clone used, and begins to start up a new mercenary force. Seeing that he needs people who know SOMETHING about the force to help fight off the inquisitors he trains the new dudes under his command in the ways of the force and all that good shit. Of course these guys are just mercenaries and are total shit-house with it, but it works. Eventually the inquisitors stop coming and the empire falls. Seeing and opportunity, he begins to send out troops to scour the galaxy for force sensitive folk and jedi artifacts so he can built a new jedi order of his own to correct the mistakes of the last order.
Of course this is going to end up butting heads with Luke hardcore, and the players are gonna have to deal with it.

I didn't want a guy who is a straight up villian.
Also I think he has a bit too much of a ~tragic backstory~, but I'm not sure what I can do about that.
>>
>>47162025
>>47162049
Thing is, this person leaves the country in a week. He used a lightside point to have an npc doc they knew find him, and yes, it crit with bleeding out. So he's -10 wounds, no one knows where he is, no in character reason and every reason for them to leave his ass because they are super wanted by the empire and to a lesser extent by CorSec. It was only because the imperial officer offed a police man who they conned into letting them get away that brought the attention of corsec on the agent instead of them. So they have a short window to flee the planet and he's in a bacta tank in the shady slum of the Blue Sector.
>>
>>47157128
Confirmed by devs to be a standalone product, and the product code family being used is the same one they use for other neutral shit like Adversary and Crit decks. If anything, it's more of just a sign that any possible Core-neutral supplements will be lumped into the same product code group.
>>
>>47162570
Wait, the player is leaving? Is he coming back? I mean, if there was ever a better time to write off a character...
>>
This is it. Going to get the original core set for x-wing. Last chance to talk me out of it!
>>
>>47164857
Plus if he's returning in the future you can leave his exact fate open, either for a triumphant return when the player does, or if he's not coming back anytime soon, as a TWEEST when the character returns as an antagonist seeking revenge on the party that left him to die.
>>
>>47164857
>>47164938
Sadly when westerners leave Korea they don't normally come back. I'm losing another player at the same time to traveling for a few months so I may end the campaign and restart with additional players and a more refined obligation ruling. (They're currently all over the place and hard to activate and write in)

Biggest problem is that I may have one more game and I'm trying to figure out how to let him still play.
>>
>>47164991
Could give him a OneShot NPC or even set him up as the leader of the CorSec Task Force hunting them, can be fun, especially if this ends up being a 'last hurrah' for the campaign.
>>
>>47162462

Do Like:
>his master pretty much just threw him onto a ship and sent him off to fight in the war.
>Seeing and opportunity, he begins to send out troops to scour the galaxy for force sensitive folk and jedi artifacts so he can built a new jedi order of his own to correct the mistakes of the last order.
Don't Like:
>he manages to convince the clones to abandon the republic just as it has abandoned them
>here's an asshole who can use the force and has a lightsaber running around and go after him
(what kind of idiot survives a purge and then goes on acting as though the purge never happened? Might as well escape from Auschwitz and travel the German countryside with a fucking Star of David on your shirt.)
Maybe:
>During this time he formed a serious bromance with one of the commanders.
And then, when that fucker tries to kill him after Order 66
>he constructs a new saber using the barrel of the blaster that his best bro clone used

My cents.

I assume that the clones have removed their Control chips or that wont end very well for the Jedi.
>>
>>47165338
The control chip thing was iffy from the start anyway. The anon you're replying to is using Legends, where clones can and have ignored Order 66 on their own through various leaps of logic. At least one story had Vader hunting down a rogue commando team who thought the 66 broadcast was just enemy propaganda.
>>
>>47165350
Just pointing out that in canon Clones have no choice whether to disobey 66 or not

If anon wants to ignore that or work around it sure, but I know I try not to stray too far from well established canon material.

Sure. But we really don't have much lore past EP VI, so a ton of stuff can be hand waved in that regard.

On the other hand we have a lot of material from the time period between I-VI.

I'm not trying to tell the anon what to do, but I'm just bringing up that the control chips may be a problem for him and his story.
>>

It's not uncommon to make he new guy do shit work no matter how elite.

He may have still been going through training. The Jakku mission may have well been his first job NOT on First Order property, he's probably green as grass.

Hence, they make him vacuum tables, mop up coffee spills, and take out the trash. Someone's gotta do it, and E-3s need the bullshit knocked out of them somehow.
>>
>>47166410

There's also a difference between disciplinary action and "stop being a dumbass" disciplinary actions.

A real disciplinary action is "you sold weapons for drugs on the job and are being discharged at best, jail at worse".

"Stop being a dumbass" actions are "you keep losing your canteen and whine too much, so now you are cleaning".

Perfect example: I know a CO who kept having a guy lose his shit in Afghanistan. He had the other guys tie all of the dudes shit to him with bungee cords and made him drag his stuff sled-dog style while on patrol.

He rapidly stopped losing his stuff. He wasn't a "bad kid" he was just Private Piles and needed straightened out. Finn seems to fit that.

Lore question: is there any precedent for a gang/pirate/smuggler stealing old Jedi Starfighters?

I play X-Wing, and the lack of a good arc dodger for Scum is annoying, so I created an A-Wing knock off called the "Salvaged Aethersprite", with the fluff being that after Order 66, a lot of tech that the Jedi used was stolen by criminal types. I imagine the interesting bits (lightsabers, holocrons, etc) would have been scooped up by Palpatine, but a spaceship seems too plebeian for him to worry about.

Also, look at those logos on those wings: I hand-rotated them from a basic SVG I got off wookipedia. Took forever. I think they turned out great.
>>
>>47166558
>stealing old Jedi Starfighters
Not sure about actual named characters or stories involving this, but we know that there are Delta-7s that weren't accounted for by Imperial logistics and supply. In Legends, Wedge stumbled upon and flew Obi-Wan's old Delta-7 during a mission to Geonosis. It's entirely possible that a few more slipped through the cracks, that blueprints got leaked, or that people salvaged some from their friendly local scrapyard.
>>
>>47162484
It works, but you need to flush out why he's not getting along with Luke.

Luke would be stoked that he found a survivor. Luke understands that the old order had problems in doctrine and practice which led to their downfall, so they would be on the same page. Even if they differed on how to go about it Luke would still probably respect his input based on his experience, and I don't see him tossing around an ultimatum due to how new he is at being a full blown jedi.

So you need a serious point of philosophical or practical division. Maybe his mercenary friends did some seriously fucked up dark side shit and, from a political standpoint, Luke can't accept them into the order or believes they need to be arrested and face whatever justice they have going their way. Or a serious doctrinal split that Luke thinks leads to the dark side. Of course your guy could have also fallen to the dark side years ago, but he keeps justifying his actions to himself as necessary or a lesser evil.

"It is such a quiet thing, to fall. But far worse is to admit it."
>>
>>47166558
Kuat sold delta 7s on the open market, you know. Not exactly the same as the Jedi models, but extremely similar and much less dangerous to own

The meta in general has been turned on it's collective asses. Previous rebel meta builds break down because now a 70pt Phat Han is no longer ideal, nor is a phat (super) Dash. Corran's still good, and the only E-Wing worth running. But he bites it hard from Advanced Homing Missiles. Y-Wings got a lot of new love and life in the form of TLTs and more, but munition alpha strikes have put a damper on them.

In short, it's all a mess. But the most common and successful builds tend to a mixture of things. Like a super Poe, TLT Y, and munition heavy Nera. Or a big ship + whatever. Imperials still have a lot of Palp/Vader/Fel focus, and Scum have a few popular builds that have popped up and caused players to adapt to... But Rebels aren't very solidified at the moment.
>>

Are there any decent rebel (preferably Y+K) builds possible using only the base set, Y-wing, K-wing, Most wanted and the Jumpmaster?

Like that one anon said, I'm kinda picking out what I want from Legends. I sort of have a "if the movies didn't say no, I'll use it" mentality here. I mean I guess with Rogue One coming out Kyle can't be canon in the slightest anymore, but shut up, he will always be canon in my heart.

>>47166893
So the antagonist and Luke haven't met and probably won't meet in the game. The dude himself isn't a huge force user, he mostly focuses on martial skills. He knows enough to actually train people in it, but not very well. So Luke is aware of him as much as he is of any random force sensitive person living in the galaxy.
So when the players find out about this organization of what are essentially mercenary jedi and report it back to Luke. Luke sees what he's doing as borderline sith (since the antagonist is just running a mercenary and bounty hunting ring, so he's killing people and committing all sorts of crimes under the name of the force.), and wants the players to find the leader and convince him to change his ways and join up with Luke. When the players eventually managed to get to the guy to try this, he will have none of it and be convinced that Luke is just trying to start up the Jedi order as it was (unless the players do a really fucking good job of convincing him that is).
So him and Luke have the same end goal (make a new jedi order), but they both have extremely different philosophies and ways of going about it.

Like the dude believes that both Jedi and Sith are shitty people. All they do is fight one another and harm innocents in the process. He believes the force should be used for more practical purposes, and that this endless war between light and dark does nothing but cause destruction. As you can imagine, that conflicts with Luke
>>
>>47170136
Which core set? TFA? Or New Hope?

Either way, there are. But the older set (with Luke, Biggs, and R2) will have to rely more heavily on the static movement of the T-65. Biggs does make a great addition to almost any list, however. For the TFA, your go-to is Poe with BB-8.

So for some good first lists, try this if you have the New Hope starter and like bombs:
http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v4!s!4:-1,3:-1:-1:;139:135,126,-1,-1,-1,138,-1:-1:16:;9:135,126,116,-1:21:-1:U.137&sn=Unnamed%20Squadron

And try this one if you have TFA:
http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v4!s!175:-1,-1,148,-1:-1:-1:;9:0,-1,-1,2:21:-1:;139:135,126,-1,-1,-1,-1,138:-1:16:&sn=New%20Squadron

Both basically make use of some similar designs on the Y and K wing, but mostly are there to help give you a feel for flyin them. Miranda capitalizes on the Twin Laser Turret, by reducing her attack dice on one attack to gain a shield, or reducing a shield to give herself an extra die on her primary weapon turret. It takrs some practice to know when to use either.

Feels like we're getting a lot of imperfect Katarn-likes. First Kanan with the cowboy Jedi schtick, weak facial hair game, and the curse of being voiced by Freddie Prinze, Jr. Then we got Finn, who shares the stormtrooper defection backstory. Then there's this guy with a jawline that, from this angle, seems to be sorely lacking.

When do we get to see the triumphant return of the OG?
>>
>>47171587
Probably never. Because Katarn, as much as we like(d) him, was never anything more than the self-insert protagonist from some old 90's and early 2000's video games. On the scale of "relevant legends material worth canonizing", he rates at about a 4. Which is one point higher than Keyan Farlander and Merek Steel, and 2 points lower than Dash Rendar, and Xizor.

Ignore the video game. Shadows of the Empire is more relevant for it's placement as a novel and the marketing campaign that intended to push it as an eventual movie. We are far more likely to see it recanonized than we are to see Katarn, or even the characters or events from the X-Wing novels.

And even so, I wouldn't guestimate it to be any more than a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 (60%).
>>
>>47172090
>Shadows of the Empire is more relevant for it's placement as a novel and the marketing campaign that intended to push it as an eventual movie.

Dark Forces 2 got a novelization as well, plus live-action cutscenes. I'd also wager that more people remember the Dark Forces saga than Shadows of the Empire. Kyle's most likely the more marketable of the two.
>>
>>47172090
Katarn is actually mentioned and makes appearances in legends outside of the game related novels, whereas Dash didn't.
>>
>>47172179
Except Katarn was first and foremost a video game character, used in other media. Shadows of the Empire (novel) was the official in-between story of what happened after Empire Strikes Back and before Return of the Jedi. It introduced a lot of extra SW universe elements beyond just another YT freighter, such the idea of a galactic criminal organization known as Black Sun.

Comparatively Shadows of the Empire has a far stronger toe-hold after the mouse take-over, and that's completely disregarding the video game, comic books, and official soundtrack. Regardless of whether or not you like "Han Solo Light" in his "totally not the Millenium Falcon", SotE is one of th mor likely candidates from Legends to find itself canon again. And it's already slowly leaked through with Black Sun being re-officialized in the shows.

This still doesn't mean it will happen, just that it's more likely than "lel Star Wars Chuck Norris".
>>
>>47172380
Works of fiction from Legends are never going to recanonized wholesale. Framing it as such is silly.
>>
>>47172380
>a far stronger toe-hold
The Dark Troopers and HWK-290 are back, too. Plus we have the Death Star Plan theft, "Jyn Erso," and Browncoat McStubble in Rogue One to look forward to. So far, it looks like Diet Dark Forces is back on the menu.
>>
>>47172151
That's making 3 novellas from a series of games, each less than 150 pages.

SotE was a 385 page full length novel, bridging the gap between episodes 5 and 6. And as part of the extensive marketing plan to push for a movie, Lucas Arts was given the go-ahead to make an N64 game based off said novel.

There is a substantial difference there.
>>
>>47172403
No shit, sherlock. And the likelihood that it is canonized, is not anything I'd wager money on.
>>
>>47172380
Katarn was actually used by people writing in legends, Dash was basically forgotten after SotE. If we're going on that history it's more likely that Kyle is mentioned at some point.

SotE introduced a lot of cool shit, Dash wasn't one of those things, if he was he would have stuck around.
>>
>>47172481
HWK-290 is canonized alongside the Defender, thanks to that (really shitty) ap game. That is nothing to go by.

As far as Rogue One goes, I'm willing to bet a lot of Dark Forces fans will be buttmad. The list of things we probably won't see in the movie, includes anyone with a last name of Katarn, the Moldy Crow, an HWK-290, or a male lead character.

But keep your hopes up.
>>
>>47172587
>>47172179
>>47172380
Dash is also pretty explicitly 'Han Solo but COOLER'. For example; instead of YT-1300, Dash has a YT-2000!!!!!!1111
>>
>>47172587
If we're going by number of Legends appearances, we might as well say that Tycho, Mara Jade, and the Solo twins, are likely to reappear in ep 8... And that's not likely at all.

Of all the characters or events in SotE, Dash is probably the least likely to return even though the YT-2400 is canon.
>>
>>47172537
>>47172621
>There is a substantial difference there.
True, a few novellas is less than a full-length novel. However, the SotE movie never happened, while Dark Forces 2 got plenty of live-action cutscenes--far closer to "movie" than Shadows ever got. I also bet that more people know about the video game than the novel, and the video game was nothing to write home about.

Also
>app game
>nothing to go by

It's still considered canon until Disney issues a statement saying otherwise. And this time, there are no "levels of canon." They're there, like it or not. Same goes for things like Anoat, Anteevy, and Ruusan, all of which debuted in the Dark Forces games. Rogue One definitely won't be a 1:1 adaptation or even remotely close to the good old days, but it looks like it'll still be recycling some stuff from the games.

Dash is also less likely to return than Katarn because his only real claim to fame is being a cheap attempt at one-upping Han Solo. Shadows of the Empire is barely even remembered compared to the Dark Forces saga. It's quite simply less marketable.
>>
>>47172651
He was basically intended to be "not Han Solo", but seriously we need a Han Solo for this book. Out of SotE, he is definitely the weakest protagonist.

The ship is just another light(er) freighter. Newer model, but not explicitly better than the Falcon. It's smaller.
>>
>>47172821
But he also has a SASSY ROBOT!!!
(Also, I forgot that it's the 2400 and not the 2000...)
>>47172799
Shadows was never SUPPOSED to be a movie, it was supposed to be all the stuff surrounding the movie without actually doing one. Besides this stuff all came out like what, fifteen years after Jedi? People get old (and fat), have their drug kicks become incredibly noticeable, or just don't want to come back.
>>
>>47172746
Not Jaina and Not Jacen are already part of the new movies senpai.
>>
>>47172799
Live action cut scenes aren't any kind of reliable indicator. The only thing they really show is that Lucas Arts had the overhead to hire actors at the time.

Despite app game status, the HWK-290 and Defender are as canon as the YT-2400. Regardless I'm glad all three of those ships are official.

And lastly as far as remember inf SotE or Dark Forces series, SotE was published and made in 1996. The first Dark Forces was before that, and does not withstand the test of time. The latter two Dark Forces games (Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight 2), were made well after SotE, so yeah... Of course they're remembered more. But when you get down to it, most people don't remember Kyle for the first game, which was little more than a shittier Duke Nukem-era FPS without multi-player. What they actually remember are the two Jedi Knight games, which is where Katarn gets any of his actual background character or personality. And that is largely why I'm not at all bothered by Rogue One, because Katarn stealing the fabeled Death Star plans was little more than a red herring objective added to the first level.
>>
>>47172862
The original intention was to explore the possibility of a movie, mainly by pursuing the marketing from all angles of multimedia sans actual film. It was largely considered a success, and helped to push for the special edition rereleases and prequels (yeah, blame SotE for JarJar).

It's exactly the same as it was before.

And gameplay-wise, it's still a damn good game despite no multiplayer. The level design is great, the weapons and enemies are fun, and the puzzles aren't all that frustrating. People will bitch about mouselook but if people back then could make do, so can people today. Plus, Kyle had backstory and personality even back then if you watch the cutscenes.

Going by the Steam and GOG reviews, it's also still very fondly remembered. It's still as good as ever.

Yes, it's exactly the same as it was before. It's another one of those fps games made in the pre-Quake era, when enemies and items were a sprite that only looked good 5 steps away. The gameplay and puzzles weren't any different than what you saw in Doom 2, or Hexen. It was all "get color key to open door to flip switch to open door to get color key to find exit, etc". Hell that design standard didn't change until after Quake 2... The only real difference between Dark Forces, and any other sprite-based FPS of that era, was that it was Star Wars based.

>Duke Nukem
Era, anon! ERA! The Duke Nukem-ERA of FPS was any first person shooter with a (rudimentary) 3d environment texture-map and sprite-based enemies/powerups/players/etc. I didn't say Duke Nukem was better. I said Dark Forces existed in the era of Duke Nukem, before Quake came out and revolutionized the FPS market. And once that happened, Doom, Dark Forces, and Duke Nukem 3d all died off very quickly.

Mechanically, it was a hell of a lot more than a simple Doom clone. It was pretty innovative in its own right. Quoting Wikipedia:

>Upon release, Dark Forces was commonly called a "Doom clone," but the game makes significant expansions upon the gameplay features present in Doom.[9] New gameplay mechanisms that were not common at the time of release include the ability to look up and down, duck, jump, and swim.[10] The use of multiple floor levels is another technical advance in the first-person shooter genre.[14] To produce these new features, the developers wrote a game engine from scratch.[15] The Jedi game engine can create gameplay and graphical elements such as fully 3D objects, atmospheric effects such as fog and haze, animated textures and shading.[11] Stinnett indicated that the developers wanted these elements to be part of an "active environment," and features were included to create this: "ships come and go at the flight decks, rivers sweep along, platforms and conveyor belts move and much of the machinery functions."[6]

And while the puzzles were of the same type as any other shooter of the time, they felt well-designed. The levels were rarely frustrating and enemy placement was done in such a way that it kept the combat pretty well-paced. Item placement also felt just right--there was just the right amount of challenge in the availability of pickups. It didn't do anything new in that department, but it did it well.

At the time, every FPS was called a "Doom clone" because, well, the term "first person shooter" didn't really exist.
Yes, Wolfenstein beat Doom to the punch, but Doom was just more popular.
>>
>>47173770
>Quoting Wikipedia
>Ever.

Everything in those days is considered a "Doom Clone", because it set the standard for sprite-based FPS. Dark Forces sits firmly in that pre-Quake era.

Yes the level design was good. But that's not exceptional because Doom showed how to do decent level design in that style. And ultimately, it was alright... Nothing spectacular. Probably the greatest parts to it happened to be things like the Krayt Dragon arena you fought in, the city area, and the Tie docking bay. Saying it's level design was done well, for a game of it's time, is more accurately rephrased as saying "it's level design wasn't as bad as shareware FPS games..."
>>
>>47174345
Wolfenstein also had flat grey floors and ceilings, whereas Doom first brought about the idea of differing elevations and moving up/down staircases or out windows. Because of that, Wolfenstein is often looked upon as the pinacle of the "pre-Doom FPS" games, which included titles like Faceball 2,000.
>>
>>47174357
>done well, for a game of it's time
I'd argue that it was good, full stop. No "for its time" shenanigans. Dark Forces levels rarely feel like they're bullshitting you and I never really felt the tedium that I did when exploring some of the Doom series' levels. DF also did verticality better than Doom in my opinion. Hell, its level design is better than a lot of post-Quake titles, too. Even today, DF1 remains a very fun game that captures the feel and charm of the Rebellion era very well. It looks good, especially with DarkXL, and gameplay remains solid, especially the combat.

It wasn't genre-breaking or genre-defining as Quake and the X-Wing series were, but it doesn't need to be. Lots of games are beloved for the simple act of taking standard mechanics of their genre and doing them well.

But seriously - Luke finding an order 66 survivor would be a huge deal. He'd get off his ass to find whoever the hell it was, even if they weren't strong in the force. Dash in Shadows was mainly an attempt to make a new rogue protagonist, like Han, but to fill the void. The actors of Luke and Leia would have been a tad old to do their 20 something selves set between 5-6, as interesting as that period is.

Shadows would have been a decent movie, and fits into the canon arguably better than a Jedi.

SotE was really the big multimedia push that revived Star Wars and got prequel hype building. WEG kept the EU alive, but SotE got it off life support by the big push and marketing.
>>
>>47171996
Hunt for a rogue Jedi. Working for the empire, the players are taking a big contract to make it big: 1,000,000 credits per player for the head of Jedi knight ______ Narr _____, hidden in the undercity of Coruscant's poorest slums... As they push against other bounty hunters, and even race the inquisitor Jerec (former apprentice to _____ Narr ____) they follow the trail. But the jedi's trail tells a deeper story, one of a Jedi who kills gangs being used by moffs to line their pockets and who kills stormtrooper patrols enforcing brutal crackdowns, causing them to consider helping the Jedi knight in his quest to aid others (and stop his psychotic former apprentice) and fight the good fight against imperial tyranny.

There ya go, nice and straightforward Star Wars campaign.

>life support
Pretty sure the EU was doing just fine in 1996. The '90s in general were basically just one big continuous golden age for the old Legends material. From what I saw, SotE was merely an attempt to capitalize on the hype that had already built up beginning with Zahn and the Thrawn Trilogy. The first three X-Wing novels were all on shelves by the time SotE was released. Toys were still fucking everywhere, audio dramas and comic books sold well, and the fond memories of DF1, X-Wing, and TIE Fighter were still fresh in many gamers' minds when SotE came out.
>>
>>47177820
I would argue that yes, it was doing fine, but it wasn't necessarily reviving it in the public eye like the prequels were. SotE was capitalizing. You got that right on the dot, but it was a test to see interest in MORE, BIGGER, and "BETTER".

SotE proved that there WAS an interest in a big Star Wars project.

Life support was a bad term to use. They certainly did more than that. I loved TIE fighter, etc., like anyone else. Hell I like Rebel Assault 2 for playstation 1, and that was just an on-rails shooter. I even played Teras kasi and that was an even more blatant cash grab than any other game.

Whether we like it or not, SotE seems to have a better stance for Disney to incorporate, whether that is a good move or not for the fans. I would argue it would make a great CGI miniseries, like 6 episodes or something.

He was busy on a mission in the distant Bumfuckistan Sector. Alternately, the Knights of Ren missed a few. Their leader isn't exactly the most competent or stable person around.

It's pretty implausible for the entire NJO to have gathered in one place at the same time. There was no shortage of convenient OJO survivors post-66, either, so it's not totally impossible for one or two NJO members to have escaped to wage guerrilla war on the First Order.

And does anyone honestly believe that a pack of retards in black pajamas is enough to stop Rosh Pennin?

>>47177913
The concept of the multimedia push, certainly, but the story of Dash Rendar and SotE doesn't seem to be all that marketable by today's standards. He's too similar to Han and he recycles too many OT events. Dash himself is barely remembered by the fans or the public. People would just ask why they didn't do a Han Solo story instead.

Dark Forces is more marketable since the saga diverges from the OT and contains a larger and more memorable array of characters, creatures, and tech to turn into merchandise. The latest entry in the saga was also more recent, meaning that Kyle Katarn still holds greater "brand" recognition. A Dark Forces rehash with SotE's multimedia schtick would be the most profitable approach.

>>
>>47178003
Valid points.

But the dash being forgotten can be good, they can rewrite him with no fuss.

God forbid people write Kyle Katarn, or cast him. The internal pressure on the actor to be "Kyle" would be fucking huge, no one could live up to that.

Really I don't think Dash is a good character. I 100% agree with you there. Really I think the current approach of "a little of this, add a new layer of paint" that the mouse house is doing isn't bad.

Kanan has elements of Kyle (look mostly) and Rahm Kota (blind, pre 66, teacher).

Kylo is a nice spin on Jacen, and likely will have an infinitely better motive to go dark than "I wanted to learn all the things and be chaotic neutral".

I hadn't considered the "Han Solo" film, I can see how Dash would really cut into that.

Any other stories you think would make a great movie?

I think some of the Rogue squadron missions could easily be episodes of a series, and Bounty Hunter actually had a really solid plot for a Jango fett movie.

This would make a great 100% batshit crazy stand alone or cgi film.

Like maybe they can't do TFA level budget, but fuck it they could totally make it like The Clone Wars movie.

>The Clone Wars movie.
Nah. Live-action or bust. Imagine a live-action Mofference with appropriately cheesy decor.

fwiw Freddie P said the Kota parallels were mostly coincidental and he's gonna run more on the whole Zatoichi archetype in general.
That said I doubt Filoni would have ever passed up the pottery of ANOTHER Sam Witwer-voiced character blinding somebody else.
Also something Anthology style like the Tales From books of the old EU would be tops, desu.

God dammit you're a genius, Tim curry was MADE for the mofference.

Fuck it lets do a cast list for Star Wars: Jedi Prince

I think Tim Curry should be trioculus, because why not. Or the guy who played Riker from TNG

Who should Ken be? Preferably a meh actor who can do just good enough a job for fans to NOT hate him, but still bad enough that he never quite fits with the rest of the cast.

Just like real Ken.

I propose we go back in time and kidnap the kid from Home Alone, or a young Michael cera

I guess he'd be Moff Hissa, then.

Well damn I didn't realize he was in that bad shape

>Tfw all the actors you grow up knowing start dying

Robin Williams would have been great as a prophet Kadaan too, if he was around.
