The tau best trained fire warriors are barely equal to your standard trained guard edition.

They're "rule in favor of RAI/weaker interpretation" of vague RAW rules where Tau get the option of "lol that's fucking broken noway GW meant this when they wrote this shitty unclear rule" or "that's pretty good why do Tau get more special shit on top of this formation full of good units?".

It's by vote too so don't blame the organizers, the players themselves don't want to put up with an entire Tau army all benefitting from the same shared markerlights and ignore cover.

But they are house rules. That doesn't make them bad though.

M8, when more than half the players play marines, you can bet things are biased.

People claiming otherwise are the same faggots who insist some games are objectively good. Some people need to stop using words they don't actually know what means.
>>
>>47076607
Go to a local store that sells 40k stuff, look around and get a feel for when players are around and if there's any other places you can play, don't buy anything though that's important, do some research (maybe have a look through the codices), then build yourself a 500 point list or so and go see if anyone is willing to play a bit to show you the ropes.

I'm going through the same thing myself.

ITC rules are fine IMO. The only bullshitty part is not allowing come the apocalypse allies but otherwise it seems reasonable and balanced.
>>
>>47076611
Not exactly "squadron", as that makes them a unit and requires unit coherency.

Each "choice" can take up to 4 models, but they can act independantly. They just get bonuses for being in certain formations.
>>
>>47076836
Some do, and it IS widely used - as I said, house rules aren't necessarily a bad thing. But you cannot claim they aren't house rules.

>>47076838
Yeah, they are mostly fine, my only beef with it os the lack of direction. At first it was intended to be a "global FAQ" to answer shit that GW refused to clarify. Then they started making actual rules changes. And I mean, sure, some of them are fine (Straight up nerfs lile the Tau Drone factory and Invisibility) but it just feels way off when you start nerfing certain things, but leave others be. I can understand trying to balance the game, but if they want to do that, they should actually do it, rather than nerf a few specific things, but leave other things untouched.

This way of halfassing it just feels stupid in my opinion. Either you go full balace mode, or you stick to clarifying the rules that people disagree on.
>>
Discussions about the Tau Tidewall seems to have died off quite hard after the inital spergout we had here on /tg/, so I thought I might bring it up under less dumb conditions.

Since I run a farsight enclaves CAD, i can fit in fortifications. My initial thought was to bring it all, but that becomes expensive AND unwieldy. If we assume taking only 1 of them, that ISN'T the railgun platform, what would you prefer? The wall? The drone platform? Maybe 2 seperate pieces?

So a couple of lore questions.

What is the expected fleet loadout for a Space Marine chapter? I don't mean those that are fleet-based like the Black Templars, I'm talking about your average chapter like the Ultrasmurfs, White Scars, etc.

I know the average chapter has 2 or 3 Battle Barges, with obviously larger chapters having more (especially those that don't follow the Codex for force sizes), but what about strike cruisers, support ships, etc. Any concrete info there?

Russ has 4: driver, loader, gunner, commander. Predator is 2, driver and commander, IIRC. Vindicator is probably the same. Space Marine vehicles use the Machine Spirit to aid in firing and handling multiple weapons, whereas Guard vehicles require humans to do it.

If you take Demolishers, kitting them with a heavy flamer and heavy flamer sponsons is good for area denial once you're close enough to use the cannon. An Executioner as 'squad lead' is nice, especially fitted out with plasma cannon sponsons. Gives excellent crowd control.

There's no point in taking anything on the Demolisher nor the regular Russ. Ordnance makes them snap fire all the rest of their weapons, so you're wasting points on weapons you're barely ever going to use. Only upgrade I'd give them is a pintle-weapon to reduce the chance of losing the main gun in case of Weapon Destroyed, but other than that sponson and hull guns are useless investments.

Mark of Tzeentch on units without an invuln save instead get a random statline buff (Rolled on D6)

The fact that many use the ITC houserules is a fallacy they propagate to promote their rules, which won't matter when GW releases their FAQ's very soon.
>>
>>47078020
I1. It's stated in the initiative section that rules that "set" initiative take precedence after rules that add or subtract to it. AFAIK, locus isn't an exception (so the locus would be overwritten by your initiative being set at 1 by the charge).

Heavy flamer as the hull weapon on a Demolisher: If you get weapon destroyed, you're close enough to maybe get a chance to use it, it's free, and there's a very limited number of situations where firing a heavy flamer is more useful than a Demolisher cannon anyhow.

Guard have a lot of ways to deal with that. Vets meltaspam, Vanquishers (add in Beast Hunter shells if you also want to rekt TEQ and MC's), and the mighty Battle Tank (good against literally everything that's not flying).

An interesting, often underused option against super-heavies is the Manticore. This is covered on the wiki (I wrote that tactical note) but I'll put it here:
Between the d3 shots, S10 ordnance and the generally large size of super-heavies, a storm eagle is statistically likely to score 2 or so glances/pens against an enemy super-heavy each shooting phase. If the enemy has no real blobs or other, more appropriate targets to deal with, the Manticore can actually be a pretty cost-effective choice against a Super-Heavy vehicle. Without support, it'll probably take several turns to bring it down, but it's reliable damage, and the value of that can't be understated.
>>
>>47078376
In that case why not just have the commander throw his shoes at them. Longer range than a stubber and more damage.

I say stick to the main gun and nothing else.

My only points about the stubber is that in terms of buying weapon upgrades for the Demolisher, it's about the only one you have any reason to sink points into, if for nothing else, the fact that it reduces the chance of losing the main gun from 50% to 33%.

Orks don't have efficient answers to Super Heavies and struggle overall to fight heavy flyer/mech lists. That's why they are considered one of the worst race crunch-wise.

On a waac tier meta, it's near impossible for an Ork army to win, even when relying on stupidly cheesy lists.

Still encouraging the habit of buying a completely new army because your favourites can't deal with metalists.

Playing the wrong way definitely isn't a prerequisite for getting hammered as Orkz. You can play the cheesiest, most horrible list that they can physically summon and still be wiped by Eldar/Tau metalists.

I'm sure you could have come to these conclusions if you put any amount of thought into it.

>>47078561
Then you just have to outright not play and find a better group. You either play and expect to lose 99% of the time and 'enjoy' it, or you leave and join another group which doesn't have douchebags. Yet it seems you'd rather bang your head against WAACfags you'd struggle to win 50% of the games even with a good dex and then moan that you can't win, then trying to fix the situation. Unless they're unredeemable cunts, ask them to go easy on you, if they deny, then go "I don't want to play with an army that will beat me on turn 1, bye"

>>47078580

Imperial Armor, volume 1. Here's how you get them:

>Take an Armored Battlegroup Allied Detachment
>Make a Command Vanquisher your HQ Choice
>Buy BH shells, and for extra fun buy a coaxial heavy stubber and Artificer hull
>take a Thunderer (basically a better vindicator) as a troops choice
Poof. For about 400 points you get the Guard version of a vindicator and a tank that can one-shot Riptides from across the board, and can get twin-linking if its target is within 36".

40k isn't expensive though. Unless you're literally telling everybody to buy a 10k army from GW direct, all the paints, tools, hobby cases and modelling supplies from them as well, in one go?

Every hobby on the planet is expensive. That's why it's called a hobby.

If you buy one box a month, you'll have an army soon enough. If you buy armies from Ebay, even cheaper.

This meme has to stop, it's a meme which perpetuates the idea that GW is somehow super expensive when it isn't at all. There is literally no difference between GW and any other hobby.

Correct, but you don't need to buy it to represent what it does. It's also, for the quality (yes, it is higher than lots of companies, regardless of what /tg/ memes) it's not bad.

Again. In 2000, a Tactical Marine box was £15. In 2016, if you apply inflation, that's £22.50. In 2016 a Tactical Marine box is £25. You get more weapons and customization options now for that extra £2.50. Plus I think they get rules in the box now? I've not bought Tacticals for 16 years.

Magic is paper with arbitrary value, one that shifts from 0 to whatever based on if the card is even legal for play.
If you want to invest, use the stock market. Magic can die anytime, and chinaman fakeys are killing your value.

Emperor is sort of like Cthulhu, alive but dead on the golden throne, strongly connected to the warp and affects things there, like the chaos gods.

Chaos god represent several key aspects of life in an unfiltered form psychic warp form. Emp's is like against all that cuz muh heresy.

There is also an forgotten god Malal or Malice which is like anti-chaos-gods chaos god. Essentially on the side of imperium. One theory is Malal is Emp's raw psychic energy manifested.

>Worshippers have manifested actual blessings

And it's possible that if he died on the throne that might free him to be the warp god of humanity and continue the battle against Chaos that he started while alive.

Some fluff could be used as a justification, like Targutai Yesugei's vision in Brotherhood Of The Storm, where he makes a choice between accepting the gift of the chaos gods and refusing them. Representations of the 4 gods and of the Emperor are there.

>He was like the four beast-figures. There was some relationship between them, something I could sense but did not understand. The four were scared of Him.

Basically. The Emperor was a super gestalt entity powered by loadsa shamans. He was super powerful and was killing the Chaos Gods until the heresy happened.

He then went 'into hiding'.

One of the longest running things in 40k is the Golden Throne is failing and nobody knows why. The Ad Mech have even gone to Commorragh to trade with the Dark Eldar for technology to help this (possibly clone tech, so Age of the Emperor can be made when the Emperor model is released by Forge World).

:::HEAD CANON ZONE:::

My headcanon is that the Golden Throne is failing due not to a mechanical failing, but due to it being unable to control the power the Emperor now has.

Think about it. The Chaos Gods get their power from souls and worship. Well, what does the Emperor have? Souls, at least 10k a day for 10,000 years AND trillions, if not quadrillions of people worshipping him every day. He is essentially being powered the same way the Chaos Gods are powered. This means the Emperor has been gathering souls and power for 10k years, that's a lot of XP. The Golden Throne wasn't designed to hold the Emperor, it was designed to hold Magnus.

So now it's breaking and the reason is cause the Emperor is insanely powerful now. The End Game being the Emperor comes back and allows all the pyskers in the Imperium to use their full powers without fear of warp rifts and thus scour the warp clear.
>>
>>47080359

Sorry, anon, but he can only buff tank squadrons from his own detachment. That's one LoW choice at most, which means one baneblade.

Besides, all the Super-Heavies use blast weapons, where the difference between BS3 and BS4 isn't all that great.

>executioners
Those are blasts, which don't roll to-hit (they roll scatter), meaning the re-rolls don't work. Did you mean exterminators? They're already twin-linked. It's basically for Punishers and vanquishers; every other tank weapon is either a template, blast, or is already twin-linked to begin with.

people are attracted to card games over table top because it lacks the hobby aspect. They don't want to spend time modeliing and painting.

People who like the table top typically like modeling and painting.

Very very few people actually make money buying and selling magic cards, at most they reduce the cost to do the thing that they like.

If you don't like modeling and painting, that's fine. If you do, that is also fine. But please don't act like most people who play magic do it to make money. It a thing they spend money on because they find it fun. Same as 40k.

Q: Do Flyers, Super-heavy vehicles, Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures and Gargantuan Creatures gain cover while standing on the ‘base’ of a terrain piece, e.g. ruins or dense thickets, or do they need to be at least 25% obscured by the scenery for cover to apply?
A: The 25% rule applies in all types of terrain if the target is a Flyer, Super-heavy Vehicle, Flying Monstrous Creature or Gargantuan Creature. All other targets count as being in cover if they are in or on the terrain’s base, even if not 25% obsured.
