How much plate armor is too much plate armor for a PC to wear when attending fancy, diplomacy heavy, events in a game?
Is the armor penalty vs dipomacy rolls like a wizard's movement/combat penalty for wearing armor only for all races? Or is it more like rogues i.e. anything below studded leather armor is fine?
>Is the armor penalty vs dipomacy rolls like a wizard's movement/combat penalty for wearing armor only for all races?
Only if diplomacy is based on dancing battles in your setting. Otherwise, the standard penalties for a social faux pas apply, whatever they are for your system.

And that's only if wearing heavy armor is considered a diplomatic faux-pas.
Armor can still be pretty fancy as long as it isn't battle-scarred and covered in gore (and even then, some barbaric societies would probably like it).Quick Grimzor, fetch me a barrel of blood. My armure is far too pristine for the count's ball.
Of course my lord. Would you like some intestines to adorn your shoulders, too?
Do you even need to ask, Grimzor?

How about treating things like the setting treats them instead of trying to get some kind of tg consensus on how much you can minmax at the nobel dinner you fucking sperg?

i would say wearing a helmet is probably in bad taste, but if i were at a ball where knights and shit are attending i think it would be okay for them to wear their armor, sort of like a military man wearing his uniform
A lot of fancy, formal events were mostly about lords showing off how fantastically wealthy they were and part of that is showing off how swag your armor is, how you can afford talented smiths.

Otherway round, fancy helmets and armor were often crafted expressly to be worn at the fancy dinner.
If armor is a sign of wealth, it'd probably be allowed. Most would probably wear decorative stuff over it, like >>47062644's pic.
Weapons would probably be right out, unless it was some weird Dwarven craftsman gathering.

Chainmail and bronze cuirassier were more expensive than plate though, you'd have to go with plate that provided really fucking weird penalties in general before you matched them in price.
And of course, there's some armor that just looks silly, no matter how much it cost.

That is the shittiest arm harness I have ever had the misfortune of seeing, and I attend American larps.
I wonder how much he wasted on that shit.

Agreeded and I've seen some real turds in the SCA. Putting arming points in the shoulders and wearing Pauldrons would have looked much better.

Yep. The one good thing that we got is that if you can make them regret their choice of shitty armour, you can convince them to upgrade. Pain and damage is a great motivator.

I bet you have peasant uprisings all the time.

>not wearing your fancy brigandine everywhere.
What are you, peasant? Even the ones who cannot afford it tried to emulate it by putting studs on their clothes.

I think it's supposed to be emulating some iron man armor rather than actual plate, but in general that type of metal probably won't look good properly made up in interlocking armor.
