make your best opening hand for mtg
> seige rhino is in my deck
also kinda fishing for combos that wreck one on one, and those turn 3 kills and shiat
any smoother infect
>white/black lifegain with rhox faithmender
why does everyone new to magic inevitably build this fucking deck
>>47013690
>exquisite blood + sanguine penguin
what does everybody OLD to magic inevitably build ?
>>47013690
Ive been playing since 1997 and my other fifth grade friends thought lifegain was the best thing ever. I guess new players are looking for ways to not lose, and gaining life it the most obvious.
>>47013690
>>47014106
If you use the ability of the guild guy to cause damage, and the rhino essentially makes the 5 life become 10 life, which is also then 10 damage to all other opponents, and hoping that op gets another white land wouldn't that hand make 20 damage to all
>>47014465
Well needs 2 more white mana
Wait, you mean your ideal Magical Christmasland hand? Or the best hand you've ever started with?
>>47013558
>those turn 3 kills and shiat
what kinda slow shit is this
>>47014593
Kitchen table who don't know any better. Alternatively those who look at Modern as the be-all end-all format, where a turn 3 combo win might actually do something if unchecked.
>>47013652
Yeah 2 Forest, 1 Glistener Elf, 2 Might of the Old Krosa and Mutagenic Growth
7x Chancellor of the Dross.
Or Mountain + Mana Clash + some luck.
>>47015196
Or two Mountains, Mana Clash, Krark's Thumb, and a Simian Spirit Guide to exile for mana.
>>47013831
Tournament winning decks.
>>47015239
Two guides and 1 mountain is better, i think.
>>47013505
Here is a decent one, vintage legal
You don't even need a land!!
>>47013505
This is a hand that is possible with my edh deck, but I have yet to pull it off
>boros garrison and slayer's stronghold in library
>>47015455
this gave me a raging boner
>>47016178
this gave me a raging boner because you don't even need black lotus, and it does 36 damage
>>47016490
Something's wrong. The Elves don't get the +1/+1 bonus until they are at the battlefield, which makes it too late for the "enter the battlefield" effect to trigger since it requires them to have +3 already.
Am I completely off here?
>>47016620
You are off. There is no point where the elves are on the battlefield and aren't 3/3s.
>>47015590
What is this supposed to do?
>>47013652
Damn, the SOI lands are beautiful. Are there larger images available?>>47016834
Seriously? This is the most obvious one in the thread.
Land for Rituals, Ritual mana to search deck for creatures, reanimate one, use the force of will to pitch the other blue spell to keep it from being countered.
>>47016620
Nah dude, if it worked like that then it'd be impossible to play cards like pic related. Elemental Bond only makes a check of your creature's power immediately after it enters the battlefield, not while it's being cast. Continuous effects like the one on Elvish Archdruid are always applying to creatures that are on the battlefield.
So in other words, in a deck like this every card you have basically has "Draw 1-8 cards.", and Imperious Perfect has "G, T: Draw 1-4 cards."
I just love jank combos.
>>47016650
You must be reading the cards wrong. Crypt will remove all cards in a graveyard from the game, but Leveler removes your entire LIBRARY from the game. The library doesn't go to the graveyard, and it's not your opponent's library you are removing either. Leveler has summoning sickness, so his 10/10 won't help you. Even if your opponent can't block it, you're looking at a max of 15 damage with Spite.
Now you're left with no hand, no battlefield (Spite destroys Leveler), no library, and your opponent is still alive.
LED
Belcher
Taiga
Spirit Guide
Seething Song
Rite of Flame
+whatever
Lotus Petal, Dark Ritual x2, Balustrade Spy, and a land-free deck with Narcomoeba, Dread Return, Angel of Glory's Rise, Azami Lady of Scrolls, and Laboratory Maniac.
>>47018533
What card destroys Leveler on turn one? Out of every card with the word "spite" in it somewhere none of them do that without a Dark Ritual or two.
>>47018533
The goal is to remove everything you have from the game.
>>47016199
I counted 38 without lotus but i'm not sure that matters.
>>47016086
Wait, can you use Gruul Turf's mana before it returns to your hand?
>>47019051
yes, that is one of the reasons Amulet Bloom works
>Taiga
>Black Lotus
>Channel
>Fireball
Rest of the hand doesn't matter.
>>47019084
Why Taiga, anon?
A typical mountain will do.
>>47019051
Only with amulet of vigor. Amulet and the bounce from turf both trigger when it etb's, and you have the amulet trigger resolve first, untapping it so you can tap it for mana before you let the bounce resolve.
>>47018298
saved
>>47019084
The rest of the hand does matter, as you need to have costless counters in case your opponent has costless counters. Thus, you need a Pact of Negation, Force of Will, and Daze, and the Taiga should be a Volcanic Island.
>>47018298
Ranor is kind of pointless there, I'd rather put noble Hierarch instead
T1: Hierarch
T2: Bogle, Wings
T3: Aura Swap, Swing
>>47020342
Hierarch gets you a grand total of 1 more damage. You need to swing twice anyway, so why not just t1 Bogle, t2 Wings, t3 swap into Conscription?
>>47018533
>Now you're left with no hand, no battlefield (Spite destroys Leveler), no library, and your opponent is still alive.
That's the joke.
>>47018533
It doesn't matter what they do. I have already won.
>>47015455
You don't need that much mana to go off. Slot a Duress in there at least.
>>47016490
>nothin personnel, kid
My casual Modern deck
>>47015455

>>47013505
I'm sorry but what site do you use to make an image like that again? I have one to share.
T1: breeding pool, cloudfin
T2: young wolf evolving cloudfin, rapid hybridization the young wolf, evolves cloudfin again on persist, then evolves cloudfin a third time when you get the 3/3, swing with the cloudfin for 3
T3: Leatherback baloth, evolves cloudfin. Swing in with your 4/5 flyer, 3/3 frog lizard, and 2/2 wolf leaving a 4/5 out to block.
>>47022282
You're a mana short for the kicker?
>>47022890
Does that work?
I'm pretty sure the 3/3 frog lizard token hits the battlefield before Young Wolf can return to the battlefield thus not being able to put a counter on Cloudfin Raptor. Since it's a 2/3 by then.
I'm also pretty sure Evolve checks p/t on resolution.
>>47022975
I don't think its possible for my deck to kill on the first turn.
>>47023158
I don't actually know, I've had people tell it to me both ways. Its a fun thought though.
>>47023272
Rite of flame could do the trick. A seething song or two would also work
>>47023375
Rite and seething song are banned. Wish they weren't
>>47023394
Right I forgot about that, dam shame to. Mana rituals are my favorite card type
>>47023361
>>47023158 is correct. Stuff can't resolve in the middle of a card resolving, so the token comes in first before the undying can even trigger.
>>47022890
You can't split up a card's effect like this. Destroy target creature, put undying trigger on stack, put 3/3 creature into play, resolve undying trigger.
>>47022890
>>47023158
I'm no judge, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work. Rapid Hybridization has to finish resolving before Undying can do its thing (although I forget whether the thing in question it has to wait for is "go on the stack" or "resolve"). Unfortunate.
>>47013505
>>47022282
Sub the Bushwacker for Mass Hysteria and you can at least do 10 damage T1.
>>47023659
this does 18 damage turn 1 you mongoloid
>>47023685
disregard that, I miscounted the mana.
>>47023685
No, it doesn't, because he doesn't have enough to kick the Bushwacker. He has no way of giving his creatures haste.
>>47023685
>>47023703
Carry on being great at Magic, anon. Clearly a pro-tier mind at work here.
>>47023584
Actually, I think it does work.
So, Rapid kills the Wolf and puts a token into play. The Undying and Evolve triggers end up on the stack at the same time because they both occur during Rapid's resolution. Thus, the controller gets to choose how they resolve. So you let Undying resolve first, which will set up an Evolve trigger looking at the Wolf, which will then boost the Raptor, and then the Evolve trigger set up for the token will resolve and look at the token, boosting Raptor again.
>>47023828
Ah, so you trigger Evolve off of the 3/3 token, but trick it into applying for the Wolf, while the Wolf then sets up its own trigger which in turn resolves for the token. So it DOES work, but they each evolve the OTHER creature. That's some stack trickery right there.
>>47023864
>>47023828
>The Undying and Evolve triggers end up on the stack at the same time
Fucking no. Undying trigger goes on stack when wolf dies. Evolve trigger goes on stack when wolf enters the battlefield. Wolf doesn't enter the field until undying trigger resolves.
>>47022975
Nope. Mountain+ape gets him two. The three rituals gets him to 5. The goblin spell costs 3, and the other goblin+kicker is 2 total. He has enough fora T1 win.
>>47023976
Empty the Warrens is 4 mana
>>47023946
But the Undying trigger CAN'T go on the stack until Rapid Hybridization has finished resolving. OK, let's take this real slow so everyone can follow.
>Have Raptor out. Raptor is 0/1.
>Cast Wolf. Wolf has more power than Raptor, so evolve triggers and resolves. Raptor is 1/2.
>Cast Hybridization, killing Wolf. This then tries to trigger the undying, but it can't because there's a spell still resolving. Gotta finish the whole card, brah.
>Get your 3/3.
>Evolve triggers off of the 3/3 being bigger than Raptor and Undying can finish waiting and get put on the stack.
BUT WAIT!
>Both things go on the stack at the same time, so you can now choose the order. Put Undying on top of the evolve you got for the token.
>Wolf comes back as a 2/2, so it has more power than Raptor, which is still 1/2. This triggers evolve, which goes on top of your evolve you have already. Raptor becomes 2/3.
>Last evolve trigger resolves, takes a look at the 3/3 token again and sees that it still has more power than your 2/3, so it resolves. Raptor is now 3/4.
>>47016650
Damn, I wanted to post that. Well kinda. Not exactly the same cards, but same effect.
>>47023158
>>47023158
>>47023361
>>47023555
>>47023584

Play the Wolf
Manta triggers and becomes a 1/2
Rapid Hybridisation the Wolf, get a 3/3
Both Undying and Evolve trigger, stack them so that Undying resolves first
Wolf returns as a 2/2, Evolve triggers
Manta becomes a 2/3 from the wolf, then the instance of evolve referring to the 3/3 Frog resolves; the intervening if checks P/T and sees that everything is A-OK so Manta becomes a 3/4.
Turn 3 play the Baloth, Evolve triggers leaving you with a 4/5 Manta, a 4/5 Baloth, a 3/3 Frog and a 2/2 Wolf.
Evolve has an intervening if which checks both upon triggering and upon resolution.
>>47026918
Yes, we already established that, thank you.
>>47026969
You're welcome.
>>47023976
Don't ever change, /tg/
>>47021023
Well you're the one with a legacy elves deck, so no I don't take it personally.
>>47022667
I think due to the way Yawgmoth's is worded you can just cast everything but the tendrils twice (including Yawgmoth's itself) before casting tendrils twice in a row? There's enough mana for it.
>>47027238
Yawgmoth itself is exiled after it resolves because of the replacement effect it creates.
>>47027238
An instant or sorcery doesn't hit the grave until after it resolves (but before anyone would receive priority) so it exiles itself.
>>47013505
Opening hand:
Arbor Elf
Utopia Sprawl
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
Forest
Garruk Wildspeaker
Burning Tree Shaman
Primeval Titan
And for added kicks and giggles:
Draw a Khalni Hydra
Forest into Arbor Elf, pass.
T2: Draw Khalni Hydra, Play Nykthos, cast Utopia on forest, untap with elf to tap it again for 2. Burning Tree emissary, activate Nykthos for 4. Use Garruk to untap both lands, activate Nykthos again for 6. Primeval titan, getting a stomping grounds and Kessig Wolf Run. Khaki hydra for free.
How many modern decks don't instantly scoop to that?
>>47029079
The ones that run Lightning Bolt, Path to Exile, or Dismember, and learn/have the insight to Kill the Bird.
>>47030316
>>47029079
Or any deck with turn 1 discard that takes one of your combo pieces. Or any deck with Remand, Flashfreeze, Spell Pierce.
Not to mention Burn and other decks will just win games 2/3 where you don't draw your magical christmas land hand.
>>47023703
Use Rite of Flame (R: add RR to your mana pool, and then R for each card named Rite of Flame in every graveyard) instead of Pyretic Ritual and you can afford the kicker], easily.
>>47030857
Rite of Flame is not legal in Modern.
>>47022890
I like it.
Pretty sure it resolves, cause wolf is in grave yard, the token took its place, then at the end of the casting part the undying kicks it outta the graveyard.
>>47031053
Modern, legacy, standard, legal, consent,
Just buzz words anon, this is like casual play with your friends 60 card decks, 4 max of any land card (unless card has fuckery), and no infinity engines.
Pauper is just common cards right ? People play that to avoid the power creep and to play something simple to avoid spazz out autistics.
>>47031708
The guy who posted the hand stated that it was for Modern.
>>47031849
Oh, then we both dun goofed.
Damn, I didn't need that exp hit.

not only is empty the warrens 4 mana, but it only gets you 8 goblins. Even if he got another mana for free he does 18 damage, not lethal.

>>47033694
>that shit takes up like 12 deck slots and doesn't even go infinite. Just use the body double/mogg fanatic/reveillark/carrion feeder kill
the entire point is to kill the opponent BEFORE their first main phase. you just combo off on their upkeep step at instant speed. you win the die roll, you say 'i choose to draw' or they win and (nrmally) choose to play first. you say 'i have effects for the end of your upkeep step', they look confused, then you combo off at instant speed before they ever get to play.
