PREVIOUSLY ON THE FLAKE THREAD:

Some flakes posted a kink sheet. MOAR ZIX AND SYMON. Reposts reposts and more reposts. Some new flakes happened. There was all kinds of shiiiiiit.

And we got some HARDCORE writefaggotry going on. Instead of describing them all, I'm just going to link the first post of each story. I recommend reading them. There were actually some really good ones this time around.

Symon and Zix >>46917749
Ivander >>46918379
Selenra and DIOmedes >>46918536

And that's about it. Let me know if I missed anything. Also, I think I'm going to make a repository of everyone's character stories over the next few days, so send me all of the stuff you've written so far and link OP in all of your writefag posts from now on.

LET THE STORM CONTINUE

>>
>>46926204
Or normal speak
Deal damage to up to one target creature equal to his loyalty
Deal damage to each creature you don't control equal to his loyalty.
DIOMEDES becomes a creature with PT equal to his loyalty until end of turn. He has double strike and indestructible

I know it's either going to be broken as all fuck or woefully underpowered, but I'm not sure which.

Of course King Of The Skeletons has graveyard shenanigans.
>>
>>46926369
His +1 is madness for his cost. His 0 is poorly worded; you probably wanted "Draw 3 cards, then discard 2" or something to that effect. His ult could be more flashy, like "Return all creatures from all graveyards to the battlefield under your control" (like liliana, but make it different I guess)
>>
>>46926328
Shit, make him a 5/10 with Indestructible, Haste, Double Strike.
>>
>>46926408

Fair enough. I also realize I forgot to give him a starting loyalty.

What if his +1 just returned a target creature to the graveyard? I was thinking of the "all creatures from all graveyards" deal for his ult, but then he'd basically just be Liliana.
>>
>>46926369
+1 is too good and worded poorly
0 is outside of the color pie
ult is eh
>>
>>46926369
Forgot his loyalty. Make the +1 conditional or something, but I'm not too upset about an o ring. Your zero looks fine. Your ult is decent, it'll be a climb to get that far assuming 4 loyalty.
>>
>>46926369
+1: Exile target non-black, non-artifact creature.

0: Draw three cards, then discard two cards.

-8: Return all Horror, Zombie, Skeleton, Vampire, and Spirit creatures from all graveyards to the battlefield under your control.
>>
>>46926478
>>46926418
>>46926491
His 0 feels pretty black to me, could use some white though. Also he has a pretty specific cost which can make him more aggressively costed
>>
>>46926478
So
+1 Target creature is sacrificed by its controller
0: Each player draws three cards, then reveals their hand, you choose two nonland cards from each hand and players discard those cards (sorry for the clunkiness)
-8: Return any number of creatures with a total converted mana cost of 8 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
>>
>>46926408
>>46926500
>>46926491
>>46926506

Alright, here's a revised version. So his 0 lets him defensively send cards to his own graveyard, his +1 lets him boost the other graveyards, then his ult pulls all typical creatures for his control.
>>
>>46926135
I would appreciate some feedback anyway, since I am new to this thing.
>>
>>46926527

Well I guess yes if she manages to get Murdock to listen to her without running away. You can give it a shot if you are one of those who write stories about 'flakes.
>>
>>46926535
+1: Target player sacrifices target creature.

-3: Search your library for a white creature card with converted mana cost 6 or less and put it onto the battlefield.

-8: Return all white and black creature cards from all graveyards to play. They all gain flying and become an Angel in addition to their other types.

Alright, another shot at the Iohannes card, based on feedback.

I feel like -10 is enough to justify his ult being so powerful. So you can choose to play defensively and use his -3 to keep pulling things from graveyard, or go for broke with the -10 and get EVERYTHING back extra-spicy.
>>

Same feedback as last time I commented. She's particularly black with her self-interest and she conveys it in a very unique way - she's paranoid and constantly looking over her shoulder rather than being an asshole. I'm finding some difficulty seeing the red in her attitude there. Where's the emotion that drives her, aside from fear?

>>46929001
His reasoning for being black and blue is that he uses counterspells and some black cards.
>>
>>46929285
Colors are literally just different schools of magic though. It's not like you need a specific range of emotions to wield an axe instead of a sword. A real mage has no reason to not use every single school/color of magic.
>>
>>46929347
There's more to it than that.

Spells are reflections of personality. It's unclear whether utilizing a type of mana makes you a certain way or you can't utilize different colours if it doesn't fit who you are though.
>>
>>46929368
Maybe if you're a bad mage. Strong mages like Ugin can overcome color. Intellect trumps 'reflections of personality.'
>>
>>46929347
Certain kinds of spells resonate more naturally with different people. This is because spells and much broader concepts can all be related to mana colors. While it's possible for planeswalkers to use spells from outside of their natural inclinations, it is infinitely more likely that their card colors will match the kind of person that they are, and that their spells are a reflection of that.

Cromat-chan here. Just because someone uses certain cards means that is all their personality is described by those cards and only those cards.

It doesn't mean that they are limited to only those spells. You have to realize, that the color and the spells a person is proficient with doesn't mean their personality is similar to everyone else whom uses those spells.

Perfect example is Jace. He is a master at wiping minds. And he doesn't like to do it, but he can. He's a pretty swell person. Yet, mind wiping is one of the most horrible things in the lore's society.

>>46929347
This is more or less true. But, also depends on the character. Most mages use particular colors and spells because they are proficient with them. But, they can dabble in other colors or spells either by whim or by result of their emotional state.

>>46929368
For most mages, they can learn damn near anything. They just specialize in certain colors or spell types. Look at how often Planeswalkers change colors in the lore.

>>46929424
This is subjective to the mage.

>>46929426
Colors are subjective. It's the spell types they choose to use that a person is typically attracted to using. But, not all users of the same spells act or think the same. U/B experimental necromancers, U/B mind wipe wizards, and U/B assassins/rogues don't all think the same. Nor do any of the individuals of those group all think the same as their piers.

Hiding an interplanar ship on a plane with no hiding place was, Nishal learned, actually pretty easy. Mostly because with all the airships flying around they didn't actually need to hide it anywhere. Iosha brought the ship in to tether to a walkway on the side of a great tower, many other airships with unique colours and designs already roped to its sides. "Alright," she said, as soon as she was sure they were correctly moored. "We took a little more damage from that dragon than I'm strictly comfortable with, and I still haven't managed to clear all the sand out of the aether-compressors or the etherium transmitters. It looks like I'm gonna need at least one of each of these," she said, absentmindedly handing him a note. "And probably some help. There's bound to be some Izzet fellows around here; make sure you get the ones that look like they probably know something about ships." With that she climbed back aboard; within seconds Nishal could hear her clanking about through everything inside. "An' make sure you find something to eat! Ravnica's got all sorts of good stuff around, it won't be hard!" He chuckled as he walked into the building. He wasn't sure he would know the first thing about anything on this list. It looked more and more like he would need to find someone to help ensure he wasn't being robbed blind, or at the very least find a vendor who he could scare into honest trade.
An hour later he entered into one of the many markets of Ravnica's streets, taking in the sights and sounds. All around him members of various guilds were milling about, shopping for food and clothes or simply laughing with members of other guilds. He smiled as he seen someone, a Gruul guildmember if their fur clothes and matted hair was anything to go by, began juggling as an Orzhovi member laughed so hard he nearly fell over. He watched for a few moments before continuing on his journey to locate the items they needed to fix up (cont'd)

their vessel. He approached one stall, seeing that it was filled with all sorts of artifacts in various states of repair. "Hello," he said, getting the attention of the bored-looking shopkeeper. "I am looking for the items on this list, and was hoping that you would have some of them." He handed Iosha's instructions over to the girl, watching as her eyebrows quickly went higher and higher.
"Listen mister, I don't know what you're looking to do with most of this but you can't just get this in Bane Alley." She handed the paper back to him, staring at him intently. "This is the kind of stuff you need to go to the League for, and even then I don't know if you'd be able to find it." Nishal made a sound of understanding. He knew little of the Izzet league. "I might know someone who can get you some stuff from them," she ventured when she caught on to his feeling. "Name's Veldren; looks a little funny, but if I stuck the two of you beside each other you'd look just fine. He's a member of the League, not too high up but definitely able to get at least a few of these things."
The smile came back to Nishral's face. "I would like to meet this Veldren. Is he near here?"
"Well, I'm not getting a lot of business right now. I'll just bring you to him, he usually hangs out a few districts from here. C'mon, I know a shortcut." She said, closing up the blinds around her wares. She muttered a quick enchantment before turning away to lead him, and he silently threw his own safeguard over the stall as they walked away.

Though there was less sun than he would have liked, the vendor's shortcuts seemed to save them some time. Though Nishral had no idea how long it would have taken him, it would have definitely been far longer than it did with guidance. "He's usually right in there," she said, pointing him to a small shop sandwiched between two larger buildings. He entered and was amazed at the sight that greeted him: (cont'd)

Magic lore changes as quick as the blocks in standard, man, are you really going to bitch at someone having a thing that happened already in canon happen again just because it doesn't sit well with your view on the perfect magic lore? This is a thread about making borderline joke characters anyway for Bolas' sake.
>>
>>46930280
He's the typical Mary Sue sweetheart that is the main protagonist that always does what's right.

A pretty swell guy.

Personally, I do not like the character of Jace. He's not developed enough and has almost no range to his personality. Sure, he's the "do everything that's right" kind of guy. And he's meant to be edgy, cool, and loved by fedora wearers. But, I personally prefer characters that have more depth to them and can be complicated in their decisions and their personal beliefs.

But, I do recognize Jace as the nigh-emo Superman archetype.

Yes, but he speaks in very short sentences.

I wear a fedora in winter, it helps keep my hair in place and rain away from my eyes, but i never felt the need to put on a leather coat and a katana too, and sure I don't like how they handled jace. >>46930642
A small dragonlike being was sitting at a counter, chatting at a great, blue-and-red creature that looked to be made of liquid. Somehow it was holding a bowl and a mixer, and was cooking something as it nodded its head(?) in response to the ramblings. "So anways," it said, "I was walkin along and this Akroan goes 'I, DIOME-" he was cut off as the weird turned what was DEFINITELY its head to look at Nishal. "Hello!" it said, waving the mixing spoon. "Take a seat; welcome to Dev's!"
"Actually," he said, walking to the counter. "I am searching for someone named Veldren. I was told that he would be able to help me find some materials." The dragonling put out a hand, offering it to shake. Nishal took it as he said "That's me! That little shopgirl tell you about me? I swear, help her out once with a shipment and you never hear the end of it. So what do ya need?" Nishal held out the list once again, and this time it was read over and handed back quickly. "I can get you just about everything on that list, but it'll cost you. What've you got to offer back?" He asked.
"I have these," Nishal said, reaching into his pack and pulling out containers. The dragonling's eyes opened wider and wider with each one.
"Wh-where'd you get those?" He asked. Each container was full of a different substance; one metallic, another storming - literally.
"I think you know as well as I do. That DIOMEDES fellow you mentioned, I believe he is a mutual acquaintance of ours." Understanding lit up Veldren's eyes. He swept the containers into his own bag. "I'll have as much of this as I can get soon," he said, turning back to the counter. "But first I gotta get some of what Dev's making. Best cook in the multiverse, this guy!"
Dev chuckled, somehow, and Nishal decided not to dwell on it. (cont'd)

Right over you're head.

The entire "we agreed you're a kiss ass" line is from Red vs Blue. Watch it. Great series.

The only "lore rape" I posted a lore for Cromat. A creature that definitely should have a lore, yet literally nothing about it exists.

And I've posted a lot of flakes. You just don't realize all of them. Just because you don't like some of them doesn't mean you haven't liked any of them.

Also, stop ragging on other people. We all play MtG here and we all love the game and to some degree the lore behind it. You should embrace your fellow supporters of Magic. Constructive criticism is one thing. But, blatantly bashing people is completely another thing that should be avoided.

And I'm not talking about how you've treated me concerning two of my characters. I don't take it personally at all. But, I do wish you would take my advice and start treating others better.

My biggest problem with a Will/Gaia ship even if it's epic funny is that realistically I don't see Will as having any interest in interpersonal relationships and I don't see Gaia as ever falling for someone as amoral as he is.

But perhaps long ago both Will and Gaia were different people. Perhaps at that time, before Will went insane and Gaia went to sleep, there could have been a brief passing between the two? Perhaps a passing that led to a temporary relationship?

But maybe she left for a little while, because oldwalker nonsense, and then after the stuff with Baron Sengir he wasn't quite the same? And then, as time passed, they just grew apart?

That would be rather interesting. Hell, they could have had kids and everything, only for them to get slaughtered when she was away. Would explain their split, because he thinks she and all her power failed them. If she was a master of color energy, it's adds an extra Freudian reason for his search of colorless mana beyond scientific curiosity and corruption. And it furthers her desire to protect her plane after losing so many of her children and family.
>>
>>46933197
Seems as good as any explanation. My only issue with it is I had imagined Gaia created her plane long after she and Will had stopped communicating. She did it because she wanted children, and not children in the mortal sense of the term. It's just that after living soooooo many millenia and seeing sooooooo many things, her wanderlust had just worn out. She was ready to settle down, so to speak. I hadn't pictured her creating her plane as being a reaction to anything, such as a harsh break-up or a world-shattering event. She was just ready for something different, and ever since her Father (Illuvatar) helped to teach her how to balance black mana with white mana, she continually looked to his wisdom as an example. And what had he done with all of his power and knowledge? He made a world. He created fully autonomous children. It inspired her to do the same.
Eventually, she felt competent enough to no longer need his guidance or advice. And so, like any good child, she started forging her own path. Hence why in the story I wrote for her "The Beginning" depicts her disagreeing with her Father's ways, even though she still honored him.
>>
>>46933464
>Hell, they could have had kids and everything
Not Gaia or Will anon, but can oldwalkers even have children in the traditional way? They are energy beings.
>>
>>46933597
I mean, the didn't start that way. I bet they probably could, but they probably run into the problem of the act causing all sorts of magical bullshit as two fonts of mana try to make a third, tiny one.
>>
>>46933597
Well, this would have been before Will became an old walker right?
>>
>>46933653
>I mean, the didn't start that way.
Well, yeah, but since they're not from the same plane, one of them would've been an oldwalker by the time they met. And I thought Gaia ascended a looooong time before Will was even born?

> two fonts of mana try to make a third, tiny one.
And even if they did have a kid, that kid probably wouldn't have a spark, and therefore would be mortal. But I'm still pretty meh on the idea of kids.
>>
>>46933683
>Well, this would have been before Will became an old walker right?

>>
>>46933718
>>46933683

>>
Will Anon. I think they could have kids, but that's not to important to me. Honestly the pre-relationship is kind of interesting if only to show how much colorless mana and his obsession has twisted him, but otherwise I don't care too much one way or the other. Since Gaia anon is the one doing a lot of writing, I'll leave it up to them.

For lore-exploration purposes, I'm gonna post this question that Doug Beyer answered (in two parts)

Dear Doug Beyer,
I'm Vorthos to the core. I usually go daydreaming about stories and flavor, and many of the stories I imagine use elements from Magic. Recently it became important in one of those stories how much a planeswalker can carry with him from plane to plane. I'm figuring he doesn't just come out of the vortex stark naked, and Ajani proves me right in that, because he carries his double-headed axe around. But I'm also thinking that one planeswalker can't take an army with him from one place to another. So what can he take?
—Sophus,Bloodshot_Trainee

This is a dangerous question for me to answer, because some future novel or other bit of Magic-in-the-media could come along and, for story reasons, contradict my answer. It's like asking how fast the Flash can run—I could quote you how fast he has run but then some comic might come out and show him running faster than that. I definitely won't nail it down like a D&D teleport spell ("the caster can take with him 50 pounds of stuff per level, end of story"), but I'll tell you how I think of it, and you can go from there.
>>
>>46933827
First of all, anything is possible, given the right conditions. Planeswalking is a form of magic. With enough time and mana, or with specialized spell knowledge, or with access to enormous power, it's possible for a planeswalker to transfer gobs of material and/or creatures with him as he planeswalks. Planeswalkers are mortal, but they're incredibly creative and resourceful—if there's something a planeswalker wants to hang on to as he planeswalks, then he'll probably pay the price and do the work to make it happen.

This implies that a less prepared or less-skilled planeswalker may have significantly lesser ability to bring items with him. A planeswalker on his spark-awakening "maiden voyage" might indeed show up naked on a new plane—or even missing some hair, a thumb, and a few patches of skin (the space between the planes can be dangerous territory)—while a veteran planeswalker might be able to hold on to a few trademark items and travel unscathed with ease. It's all about the particulars of that individual planeswalker.

Note that the nature of being a wizard generally lets a planeswalker ignore the necessity of, you know, packing a bag. When the Terminator shows up in 1984, he has to steal clothes and a motorcycle to execute his mission. When Garruk shows up on Lorwyn, he can cast spells to summon just about anything he needs. He might not be able to pop into being with a huge army all around him, but given enough time, you can be sure that he can build up a pretty good one after he gets there.
>>
>>46933827
>>46933842
So, with this in mind, it would make sense for flakes to carry different amounts of artifacts and even have varying game plans for how to set up or move into action when they arrive on a new plane.

Just some food for thought.

Gaia anon here. I'm cool with them having a relationship before Will ascended. I agree that it would show some excellent character development for Will and really highlight how tragic his own villainy is. And it could be good for Gaia's character too to show that she tried having a normal life at one point in time. Honestly, if we spin it right, it can add depth to both of their characters.

Or that by the time he realizes it's happening that it is too late to save the plane.
Or rather he travels back in time before Gaia makes the plane to spend time with her.
He convinces her not to make the plane because it won't end well and they are spending time together, but creating a paradox starts destabilizing the multiverse to the point where they are forced to choose between setting the timeline right or watching planes get swallowed up by the time rifts.

Symon-anon here, I'm back at work so it's been hard to make headway on my own writings. My bad.

Regarding Symon's personality, he's meant to be very curious and analytical, but becomes an excitable thrillseeker when he's doing what he loves- exploring and travelling through fantastic landscapes and tracking down rare and powerful creatures. An adventurer at heart, he likes getting down and dirty and experiencing what a plane has to offer- he'd sooner hike the Gatstaf ranges of Innistrad than planeswalk to the top, for instance, and he'd be exhilarated to find a ridgeline from which he could see dragons engaged in a territorial dispute. Think extreme sports nuts that get really pumped when they pull off something dangerous.

U/R to me seems like it could either go way in over its head in a "Will it work? I have no idea!" kind of way, or in a "Time to channel McGuyver, because shit just hit the fan and all I have is my chinese takeout" kind of way. Either way, U/R is a little less "I got this" and a little more "I think I got this, but who has time to double check"

Here's an excerpt from my story involving Symon and Anna to make sure I'm not butchering his character
“Symon,” she walked towards him, “did you run into trouble? It took you longer for the delivery than normal.”
He gave her a confused look “No, I mean yes, but the only real trouble is you running off without telling me beforehand.”
“I left you a note.”
“In the back of a building being nested in by baloths.” Symon added on.
“I trust it wasn't a problem for you.”
“Of course not,” he said with a laugh and took off his backpack, fishing through it for her food.
Nikita took the food he handed her and cracked off a piece of the bread “Well, I'm glad you're here since I've got a puzzle for you.” She began heading back into the room when Symon cleared his throat. “Yes?”
“Are you saying, that you can't figure something out?” He asked in a leading fashion.
“No. It's just that I'm too close to it now, so an outsider's perspective could be helpful.” She excused and continued walking, if he wanted to follow her, he would.

>>
>>46936807
Only kind of related, but someone once pointed out to me the key difference between simic and izzet, that is, UG and UR.

In simic experiments, there is no failure. Anything that happens, happens, and they are happy with their creations no matter what.

In izzet experiments, you expect something to happen, and if it doesn't, you fucked up. You hypothesize with the goal of being correct, and ultimately have some pre-set goal that you want to achieve. You can be happy, or not, with the end result.

Just an interesting thought.
>>

He was the main villain in the Guildpact novel. He was an Izzet Magelord that tried to overthrow the city by reviving a cluster of dragon eggs that he found. Dragons that were meant to be alive during the time that Niv-Mizzet was, and would therefore be around his power level.
>>
>>46936960
Wait is she Nikita or is she Anna? I thought she forgot she was Nikita and is now Anna?
>>
>>46936984
And again, yes. This went with the lore stating that there were no dragons other than Niv-Mizzet in Ravnica. When people in that city say "the dragon," they mean Niv. The rest of his kind is supposed to be extinct, so the printing of new dragons in the RtR block was lore-breaking the same way that new gorgons were.
>>
>>46936984
I know that, but it does sound like that
>>
>>46936995
Shit good catch
>>
>>46936961
I like that idea actually. The ironic thing is from what I can figure, their actual experimental methodologies are the opposite of that. With the simic, a lot of their krasis and creations are designed with an explicit purpose, like the Species Devourer. They made it by just kind of trying stuff, and seeing what works, but it was in the end towards a goal, even if they don't really care about their accuracy to it.
With the Izzet, you get explicit, planned experiments that are some of the most chaotic, dangerous, and barely scientific things in Ravnica (See the intro the Guildpact book, where you have a goblin just kind of rolling with it), but in the end they're working towards a specific, quantifiable, and possibly reproducible outcome.

It's kind of interesting when you think about it.

So is Fry supposed to be Gaia? I'm too tired to figure out which is which.
>>
>>46937086
Given the fact that the cardgame is the primary medium, it would be the novel contradicting the cards.
>>
>>46937230
Either way, it'd be nice if Wizards didn't flip-flop on the lore. The gorgon thing is especially touchy for me because they also went extinct during the course of the novels, but more showed up during RtR, while on the flip side they acknowledged Jarad who was in the first block novels but had no prior card representation.
>>
>>46937275
There could have been baby gorgons getting made between the blocks since it was about 40 years.
>>
>>46935564
I think I'd like to try writing a plane, for now. Hopefully have something today.
>>
>>46937341
Except that the last three gorgons were all female. And they died.
>>
>>46937387
Except for Ludmilla, but one female gorgon does not magically make a species come back.
>>
>>46937387
Have we ever seen male Gorgons?
and babies off screen.
>>
>>46937407
Literally the last three of their race, taken down to one. I don't know what the hell mates with Gorgons, but considering how lavishly the Sisters of Stone Death lived for a millenia leading up to their overthrowing, it's a little outrageous to think that they couldn't have made more during THAT interim. But they didn't. And it was important that there were so few of them; it was the main argument used to get the last of them to stop fighting Savra, or else they would have gone totally extinct.
>>
>>46937400
>>46937441
Given how much cross breeding there is in Ravnica I wouldn't be surprised if one Gorgon could make a few clutches of kids in 60~ years.
>>
>>46937718
Maybe they come from eggs?
>>
>>46937720
Yes that's why it's a clutch, because eggs. Or it could be that Ravnica started seeding again because like Mirrodin everyone born on the plane is descended from someone who wasn't.

>"il sincronizzoro"
Male article "il" for a female character, and a word that means nothing. Get your italian right, m8.
>>

>p
Maybe she's transexual ;^)
>>
>>46937816
Man, I don't even know italian. I took chinese in school.
What's the proper female article then? I'll post an edited copy.
>>
>>46937844
"La." And I don't really know what you meant with the second word but I think "sincronizzatrice" is the closest you can get if you wanted the female italian version of "Synchronizer".
>>
>>46937862
It was actually me making a horrible mish-mash of the words sinchronizzare and orario. I thought it would be better to have a kind of fantasy sounding fake name than a one that's just translated italian.
>>
>>46937874
Problem is that it sounds incredible weird in italian. Also "Orario" is a word you use to mean the time in which you have to do something, like when you have to go to the doctor at 3 pm, that the "orario" in which you have to show up.I'd rather use "tempo", or "ore", really, and since we are just mashing words I'd say "sincronizza-ore" or "sincronizza-tempo" and debate or wheter or not keep the - in it.
>>
>>46937920
What about mashing "sincronizza-ore" into Sincronizzore? Flows better off the tongue to me.
>>
>>46936960
Are Symon and Anna gonna live happily ever after?

>>46937960

I've had an idea for a Rakdos walker, since we seem to be really lacking him.

He'd be a minotaur who, upon igniting his spark, believes he is a deity.

I find we have a fair lack of evil walkers too, so it'd help that too.

Veldren and Nishal sat at the counter as Del continued adding ingredients to his bowl, talking amongst themselves about their adventures in the multiverse. Friends were hard to come by for planeswalkers, and Nishal considered himself blessed to have found so many in such a short period. Del served out his creation, a souplike meal with small chunks of meat and vegetables.
Nishal had never tasted something so good; after they finished eating and Vendrel left to gather what Nishal needed, rushing out with a "I'll be back in an hour or two!" Nishal turned to the weird. "The dragonling was right," he said. "I've never tasted anything that delicious. Tell me, would you be able to make more?"
If a being without a true face could smile, Del did it.

Soon enough Vendrel was back, followed by a goblin pulling a cart laden with various objects. "Now I don't know what you need with most of this," he said, handing the list back to Nishal. "Or what most of it has to do with the other stuff, but it looks like you're trying to gather a lot of Aether. Should I be concerned?" Nishal pulled another vial out of his bag and handed it to Vendrel in thanks, and said "Probably not, no. As soon as Iosha gets her hands on these we should be off the plane in a day or two. I need to get these to the Wolfblood tower, if that would be possible?"
Vendral, pocketing this newest vial, replied "Not not a problem at all, but it might be a bit of a walk." Reaching back to grab a small pot from the counter and say his farewells to Del, Nishal turned to the door and said "Lead the way, friend! This soup will not stay warm forever, and Iosha gets crabbier the longer she is hungry."
>>
>>46938934
that feels like the end of this one; not sure where to go with it from there. I like keeping them as little adventures without a clear ending, though.

Myr-anon here, I made something while trying to brew something to writefag about. The Messenger as an actual card! Or actually, cardS. All of these represent The Messenger and the possible destinies it carries.

The first one is obviously the current Messenger. Dedicated to its mission, it searches the planes feverishly. It has slowly grasped its abilities of walking and calling forth the memories of its brethren.
The second one is the Messenger that had no outside influences, leaving it to focus entirely on its mission, slowly making it more and more efficient at it. It has no regards for the planes or the people in them, it will systematically search every inch of the plane while stripping its resources to build even bigger army to assist it in its search. Anything slowing down its progress will be shiftly dealt with.
The third one is the Messenger that has been influenced by good nature people and planeswalkers. While it is still on its mission to find the receiver, it has gained great degree of sentience and emotions. This makes it so that it doesnt outright raid the planes, instead it respects every living being and tries to help any plane it comes across, instead of ruining it to fuel its search. The myr has becomes something more. It has become a Hero.
The fourth one is what happens to the Messenger if it ends up in New Phyrexia and somehow its spark its NOT ripped out. There is nothing left of the Messenger's determination to complete its mission, all that is left is the corrupting will of the phyrexians. It has returned to invading other planes, but not for the purposes of finding the receiver. It now enters planes and builds armies of corrupted myr and other phyrexian creatures for the purpose of conquest in the name of Phyrexia.

Which one of these destinies will happen to the poor myr? Only time will tell.

Jesus, the ult of the first and second versions are amazing.

The first two seem a little too strong for their mana cost. Efficient Messenger would be fine if Myr as a tribe weren't so good already at pumping out weenies. It could be obscenely hard to smack down for an enemy.

The -6 on 'The Messenger' should read "At the beginning of your end step."

The +1 on Emissary is probably too strong too. I'd probably pull the -1/-1 counter element of it, especially with the passive it has. That'd make the +1 slightly weak, but still playable.

All in all, they're fairly good design though.

What if, like, Gaia and Will had a kid/kids. And they were happy for awhile. But Gaiahad to leave for a bit because of interplaner shenanigans. But because of immortality and oldwalker shit, she's gone longer than she originally intended. Their kids get a bit older and miss their mom, but their dad keeps reassuring them that mom is coming back, she just has very important things to do (all the while worrying about her himself and keeping a weather eye on the horizon). The stuff with Baron Sengir happens, their kids (along with everyone els Will loves) is slain and Will's spark ignites. Gaia feels his ignition from within the Blind Eternities and returns to his home plane. She finds her children dead, and wweeps. She hadn't realized she was gone for so many years. Will returns and finds his grieving wife, but the murder of his lived ones and journey through the Blind Eternities is already changing him. He blames her for not being there to save him and their children. Time passes and they grow appart. Will becomes cold. And the loss of Gaia's first children are part of her driving force to seal off her plane to protect her new children.

That actually inspired me to add Heroic Messenger. Because who cares, all stories that want to take the Messenger for a spin now have their own alternative universe version to use.
>>46940429
Yeah, obviously they arent perfectly balanced. I might tweak them for later threads if need arises. I just mainly wanted to focus on the story and how differently the walker could end up as. Though now that I look bit more, you are right, the first one especially does seem overly strong for its intended purpose, which wasnt supposed to happen.
>>
>>46940469
For what it's worth, I think the Heroic Messenger is absolutely spot on, and the others aren't far off the mark either, and since I imagine those were a first draft, you should be pretty pleased with it.
