Any board approved shit is usually just the person with the least provocative opinions taking the time to make an infographic. They shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone, and your personal tastes should dictate what you watch.

That said. Spice and Wolf is great, and Holo is best girl.

Thanks anon, this is great

I've seen 12 Kingdoms and I can confirm it is one of the greats. Fucking GOAT character development, at least the first arc.

Not on there but I also request The Legend of Arslan, older anime that got a new version as well as a new manga recently. Writing wise it's pretty standard but it's also an interesting low magic world (where.magic exists but it is holy shit horrifying), slavery is morally ambiguous, and there's a not!Xhao Yun that kicks lots of ass. Fitting they made a DW game out of it. shame it was mediocre at best.

Anyway purely because it's about the Persian fucking Empire I recommend Arslan.

Claymore manga is finished now

Raki/Lucky was trained in swordsmanship by Eisly, both knew Priscilla was pure fucking evil - Raki asked to be converted into a half-youma and Eisley was like "not a fucking chance retard - the goal is for her to get involved in some stupid big fight - which is why she's sticking with you - and if you train for seven years you might be able to sneak a single blow in. because you don't have any youma power she won't be able to detect you, you won't kill her or anything like that, but you'll distract her - part of your training will involve making sure you can survive a single return hit and distract her *even longer* so that some other fucker can kill her". The ending took a long time to get to the 'good' bit, but after they summon theresa from the dead it gets pretty gud

One of those "transported to another world that runs on RPG rules," except it's essentially the campaign of That Guys fucking around while the one guy who rolled shit stats is the only competent character of the group.

>GATE: Thus the JSDF Fought There

Semi /tg/ approved if all you care for is modern armies versus low magic not! Romans.
Pros: Tanks vs legionaires
Planes vs dragons
The magic of air superiority
World building on the fantasy side (manga/ln only)
Cons: JSDF/Japan wanking
Harem bullshit
Loli death goddess
Plot/logic holes
A lot of shit done in the manga well is done poorly in the anime
Cutesy art style
Instead of squad-based murdering you get big tits murdering shit and triggering people's autism
Did I mention the Japanese wankery?

Yeah, on second thought, GATE: blah blah blah is shit. Interesting concept, poor execution.
>>
>>46917250
I've read the full thing. The final battle just takes up so much of the manga that it became more of a chore to read than anything else.

I was mostly put off by how long the final encounter is. I think it's a full quarter of the manga just dealing with the various forms of the 'final boss' while random people over explain on background details that only vaguely mattered during the rest of the story. It felt like a slog.

>no mention of Dorohedoro

The story takes place in a world fucked up beyond saving and recognition, with mortal population living in constant fear of magicians - people with ability to manipulate weird black smoke. The plot follows the conflict of several factions with their own motives, with no clear villain in sight (at least until spoilers). It's equal parts dark, gory, surrealistic, humorous and heartwarming - it's a weird mix, but it works, and works very well.

There's only been one other list image posted at the start of the thread, and it's at least three years old now.

There's no difference between the wiki and the list, except that you can actually edit the wiki instead of complaining about it. But nobody ever does, and It's been years since I've seen a new recommendation image chart made, so... what you're saying is that you just like reposing old shit and whining about things other people but not creating anything of your own.

Yeah, read manga instead. Anime as a form of media is pretty much a filter that sucks up all the most generic mainstream lowest-denominator crap from manga and re-packages it for shills. There are a few exceptions that actually do something good with the media, but for the most part anime is about target audiences and cash grabs, not story or art.

i'm just mad that show missed the part in the LN where Kazuma actually runs around in a proper party for a single day and turns out to be 50 kinds of amazing.
>>
>>46917530
They might be saving that for S2
>>
>>46917530
I'm not too torn up that they didn't translate the chapter where Kazuma goes to solo grind a bit (and finds out that Aqua is an undead magnet), I'm kinda annoyed that they skipped over Wiz's first appearance, I'm really sad that they skipped 'The One day Kazuma was competent'.
>>
>>46917469
Yes but Lodoss does it even slower, it's like you already know the cataclysmic ending, the main character, the villain etc etc. but it just drags on and on with side plots that try to make you care for the setting which doesn't really matter because it has almost no impact on the plot. Also desperately tries to make you feel for the side characters, which again doesn't matter because they will ultimately be nothing but useless support cast with little actual impact on the plot as per usual anime writing.

Also this >>46917499
>>
>>46917540
it should have happened literally right before the succubutt episode, cause then it would have explained a bit better why kazuma actually knew those adventurers you saw with him when he went into that parlor.
however we get more best undead girl and her far more capable sidekick shows up next season.
also scumzuma gets thrown in jail.

I thought the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime they have recently been doing is pretty well done. It looks great, for the most part never boring, doesn't feel like every other generic shounen anime ever made, the pacing seldom drags and the episodes are never padded out.

Jojo anime is very good yes and, unpopular opinion, I feel it conveys the wackiness better than print. IE, the anime is superior, at least for part 2 and the latter half of part 1. Some things are lost in part 3 simply because of how fucking long it is, and part 4 just started. Also goat music

That show is everything wrong with anime wrapped into a modern form. If the Nazis ever return to power, they will abduct millions of the population and force them to sit through it. If they seem to be enjoying themselves by episode five, that's the cue for forced sterilization.

Yeah, it's surprisingly well presented and researched story while being increadibly melodramatic, naive and nonsensical.

When I originally sat down and read the damn thing I thought it was one of the dumbest things ever. Then it won me over to unironically enjoying it when the magical kung fu kicked in. It's unconventional Victorian era action pulp done right.

Jojo is just good because everything about it isn't a story I already heard before. Also while being entertaining tall tales of imagination without being pseudointellectual. It's like the thrill of being a little kid and seeing something awesome for the first time all over again. It's like action Shounen Discworld or something. Everything about it just clicks.
>>

Seven Deadly Sins, which is tits and the main character(s) are overpowered from the get go and the only power ups they get along the way are "Oh, i forgot i could do this" or "Seal's broken, now i am stronk".

It's stupid fun that doesn't take itself seriously, which is no surprise considering that the last thing the author did was a parody/homage of over the top 80's MANshounen or whatever you want to call it when the big selling point is that all the characters are MANLY MEN who do MANLY THINGS.

Because none of them are. They are high-and-mighty jerks or cookie cutter personalities with the traditional three point shounen character past: "In my past, a tragedy happened to me. In my past i found the love of my life or my best friend. These two are interchangeable for when they happen, sometimes they are the one and the same. Now i am shunned by the people because my powers are alien or forbidden."

Honestly the only reason to follow it is to just see how many times they will do the "i was just holding back/i was being held back" thing.

Not really. The damn thing has no stigma in Japan and everybody reads them, though the biggest market is for children and manchildren. There's several good manga that are aimed towards adults, but they never garner the mass market appeal of stuff aimed for younger demographic which is then gobbled up by manchildren, which means that they are more obscure, which then means that stuff is never shown outside of Japan and the only thing we see as giant billboards and poorly translated dubs are shounen stuff.

I noticed that pacing is a common problem for a lot of animes. It really feels like they drag it out on purpose so they can make as many episodes as possible. I liked Space Brothers because it was down to earth, humble, somewhat realistic, about a topic that matters and the characters were fine, but I hated how they paced it. It was so padded out that you could remove half of the content of that show and it would be a more enjoyable experience.

They also seems to misunderstand the idea of show, don't tell. Repeated exposition flashbacks kills the flow of any story. I tried to watch Terra Formars and that show was all over the place. It just couldn't get to a point fast enough, the entire thing was disjointed and all over the place.

I don't think it's about maxing out episodes, it's more about saving money. Think about Naruto, at least half the fucking anime was flashbacks or them standing motionless and talking, they barely had to animate anything.

>>46918778

Well a lot of that comes from them also being based off mangas, and when they catch up to the manga they have to do filler since they can't really continue a story they have no fucking idea what happens in it. There are a few exceptions to his, like the first FMA anime, which is why it is actually paced pretty well, and the second one came out after the manga was finished.

From a narrative perspective the best option would be to just put the show on hold. So many stories suffers from being rushed out before enough thought is put into it or padded with a whole lot of nothing because there is some kind of demand to meet.

Anime
Record of the Lodoss War - Some bored anime producers made an anime about their D&D campaign. AKA how the GM thinks his Campaign will go.

Slayers - AD&D the anime, nuff said. AKA what happens when the players get a hold of the GM's Campaign.

Spice & Wolf - Medieval Economics the anime.

Outlaw Star - A space western about a hot blooded dude and his rag-tag crew on a quest. Also, amazon warrior cat girls with rock'n tits.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes - About a war between two galactic superpowers that have been fighting for over a century. Best described as a historical soap opera set in the far future or an essay on the pros & cons for both democratic governments and Dictatorships set in space. The technology is Traveler to a T.

One Punch Man - Mutants and Masterminds, about a slightly depressed dude who defeats all his opponents in one punch looking for someone who can give him a challenge.

Gurren Lagann - The Orkiest anime in existence. Pure unfiltered HYPE.

Monster Musume - Monster Girls, That is all you need to know.

Manga

Fist of the North Star - What if Mad Max was a Kung Fu movie? About a dude wandering the post-apocalyptic wasteland who can make people explode by just punching them. The manliest manga in existence. Reading it will put hair on your chest as well as cry manly tears.

Berserk - A dude with HUGE GUTS and a HUGE SWORD kills demons dead. Very dark and very grim. Warhammer Fantasy the manga.

Vinland Saga - Vikings! Historical fiction manga about a edgy teenage Viking learning to not be so edgy. Berserk lite.

Claymore - Hot chicks who are part monster with huge swords kill monsters. Also Berserk lite

Dungeon Meshi - aka The Joy of Cooking Monsters. About a party of adventurers that eat the monsters they kill. A great read for an GM looking for material on dungeon biology as well as some interesting monster ideas. Don't read on an empty stomach.

Monster Musume - see above

I agree that the anime is a hot turd.

The manga is fun. Its one of my dirty pleasures like Highschool of the Dead. Its like a cheesy B-movie. The beginning was awesome. You had awesome battles, political intrigue, interesting world building, and operators operating operationally against fantasy monsters. Then it just devolved into generic harem bullshit. I can excuse the nationalistic wankery, (mainly because it gave us the most hilarious line I have ever read,) but even that gets really heavy handed later on.

I wish some one would do a MST3K style riff of it. That would be pure comedy gold.

Welp, gonna mention specifically things no one mentioned and at least tangentially /tg/ related:
- Irresponsible Captain Tylor - features a tactical genius so hardcore, you can't tell whether he's pretending to be retarded or it's literally just all luck.
- Phi Brain - basically "what if Yu-Gi-Oh was actually about games and puzzles, and not HEART OF CARDS". Really childish and kinda retarded character- and plot-wise, but literally everything else is top-notch.
- Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita - basically Alice in the Wonderland, on drugs. An excellent "weird" comedy taking place in a post-apocalyptic world that makes no sense from the ordinary standpoint, but makes perfect sense when you get accustomed to it.
- Natsume Yuujinchou - a slice-of-life-esque anime, extremely comfy and features a protagonist who can see supernatural creatures and tries to solve their problem. Basically Mushishi if Ginko was an unsecure teenager in the modern world.
- Shingeki no Bahamut - a pretty okay rendition of a typical western /tg/ campaign. Features the best rogue character in a while.

Honestly, there is A LOT of good and creative shit out there.
You just gotta dig deep, man, and not just watch the current seasonal shows or whatever constitutes /a/'s cultural minimum.
Personally, I recommend looking through the old seasonal charts - circa 90s-00s.
Also, just picking an anime based on the cover and the synopsis, without listening to what the others say about it, never failed me.

That would be nice if the OP was asking for /tg/ related anime. Only he isn't. He was asking for approved, and that literally just boils down to "give me suggestions for a show to watch".

Board approved Anime lists are pretty autistic in that regard. They usually just reflect personal taste and often have little reflection of the way it handles the material the board is known for.

Take /k/'s for example. It has Spice and Wolf (which isn't /k/ related in the slightest) as one of the most recommended shows, as well as recommending shows that treat guns like cool toys and Gun-Fu bullshit that /k/ typically hates. The /tg/ list is even worse, because it just "whatever I like, but thinly justified because it can be played in an RPG."

Which is a shit reason btw. Considering I could pop over to the GURPS General and probably get them to run a game about asparagus, and then make an anime about a piece of asparagus, and call it /tg/ related.
>>

>Shingeki No Bahamut
My nigga. Can recommend as an entertaining but not-too-complex fantasy adventure with entertaining characters.
Simply put, a fun watch.

Other interesting sci-fi stuff that hasn't really been mentioned yet:

>Super Dimension Fortress Macross
It and Dougram >>46924219 are the source of many classic Battletech designs, but where Dougram could almost be a BT campaign on a remote Periphery world, Macross is about a war between humanity and a hugely powerful race of aliens where culture shock (especially through the effects of music) plays a major role.
Also jet fighters that transform into giant robots.
Has been "localized" as the Macross arc of Robotech, although they changed a bunch of backstory and metaplot in particular in that.

>Mouretsu Pirates
Very slow-paced series about a group of space privateers in a sci-fi setting.
Not a ton of action, but a lot of character focus and world-building (and it's a very cool and nice-looking world).
The last few episodes are anime-original and kind of suffer from it, but that just brings it down from good to decent imo.

>Knights of Sidonia
Sci-fi story about a human colony ship trying to escape a strange kind of alien threat.
Has fairly realistic space combat mechanics, a broad cast and some really cool art but kinda slows down towards the end.
Two anime seasons cover about two-thirds of the story (with some changes towards the end) but their CGI animation puts some people off. You could just read the manga instead.
>>

>>
I think the problem is that a lot of suggestions automatically default to things that are RPG inspired, which is problematic because lots of those are adaptations of light novels, which is (generally speaking) absolutely dogshit tier hack writing/basically fanfiction.

Things like [skills] or [HP/MP] or [experience points] are things that give a framework to abstractions so that you can play a game and measure progress but are utterly detrimental to legitimate world building. They are necessary for games but a complete and utter lazy copout in other forms of media. Overlord or SOA or shit like that are terribad for this reason, especially since inherently boring/unoriginal character tropes mean they can't overcome this weakness.

You're much better off asking for anime that have well fleshed out storylines with interesting characters that aren't just fapbait or waifu/haremshit but still have interesting adventures.

There's prob a reason you hear S&W or MaoYuu bandied around a lot (medieval economics, well thought out implications, etc) but you'd do just as well with shit like One Piece or Black Clover since they deliver well enough in terms of "bunch of bros having random adventures"
(And yes, well aware that some of these still come from LNs but they're generally the exceptions wrt being well written)

I tried to get into 12 Kingdoms, but gods, the protagonist just pisses me off.

Does it get better after episode 15 or so?

>- Irresponsible Captain Tylor - features a tactical genius so hardcore, you can't tell whether he's pretending to be retarded or it's literally just all luck.
My favorite right here.

Yeah, it was fun with the weekly installments when we were still catching up to the releases. But like >>46928975 said. I'd rather have quality over quantity.

Dang that was the wrong picture.

I don't really have any interest in reading LN's after spending years reading trash by Black Library.

>>46929092
The protagonist stops acting like a spoiled bitch and matures.

It's like a real life metaphor for cooking.

For people in the thread not liking the transition from Ripple to Stands in JoJo, for people not liking anything past Part 2:

The transition was necessary. There could be only so much done with Ripple before it would be boring, because Araki made few very specific limitations, such as long training or only ONE IN TEN THOUSAND being able to fully grasp it, raw Ripple usability limited to killing undead (Kars had Ripple comparing with power of the sun, which is the level when it starts working on humans on the same level it would work on undead) and at best incapacitating humans. You can still channel it through several objects, liquids and such, even using it for hypnosis, but those were already stretching the possibilities, not coming into idiotic territory. The breathing part also limits battle possibilities, because every fight would probably go around how to stop the Ripple user from breathing.

Now, for Stands, at the beginning case is similar. Only few people can have them from birth, but this time it's much more accesible. You have to either be very strong willed to have one or someone in your bloodline needs to be hit by Arrow (about it later). The fun begins in designs and diversity of those powers. Part 3 kept it simple, you have your punch ghosts, shooty ghosts, fire ghosts, knight ghosts and the super power of the villain is simply to stop time. But we already see how Stands allow more creativity than Ripple. Good luck erasing things from existence or generate fuckhueg sun with only Ripple.

Next parts are slowly expanding on concept of the Stands. Even more people can have one, assuming they are hit with a Stand granting Arrow. Suddenly Stand users can appear anywhere, creating allies/enemies mid story. There's also possibility of obtaining a Stand by mastery in certain topic, like cooking. Stands also have a set of rules, sure, but this time they can be broken much easier (One stand per person? Guy has a stand made of 500 bee-like things.).

The CIA are implied to be the shadowy top dogs.

What does any of this have to do with traditional games?
>>
>>46930083
Church is more of the observer than an active player. They're only supposed to step in if there was a risk all factions would ally under united leadership or somebody smuggled a nuke into the city.
>>
>>46930165
The Church isn't the CIA, they're just the one known CIA agent's host. The agent herself has motives that, while previously seemed apparent, are all now totally thrown into question.

Inspiration for games.

But I would guess it's because fun things are fun.

My bowel movement could inspire a game but that doesn't mean we should have threads devoted to shit like this one

The face and hair is better, but you can't blame them on the lost details. You can only get details that good on high-budget OVAs.

Since I didn't see Tenchi Muyo popup on ctrl+f, I'd recommend that and its spinoffs if you want a fun space adventure.

I usually hate anime and manga but I have a real soft spot for Tenchi Muyo!
