Ork flyer has a Smasha gun and two tellyporta blasters (not sure if twin-linked) as well as some guns on the back.

Marine one has a stalker autocannon that can get swapped for a 2 shot lascannon, double assault cannons, and heavy bolters to swap for missiles.

interceptor, it can't be combined with markerlights so it's hitting on 4+, not on all units. and drop the devs out of LoS and use the stupid pin on 3d6 against there crap ld. who cares if you don't have relentless after the first turn, you don't need to hit.

>>46914098
It's the assault squads that would get burned.

Even on a 4+ a Riptide's blam and the XV88s twin linked spam and the Ghostkheels would bruise the assault squads up badly.

Still think you should be able to jink against markerlights
>>
>>46914229
fuck forgot that bit. admittedly the tau player in our area runs actual non-MC-GC units, so I haven't faced the 'run 8 models at 2000pts' stupidity. Riptides and Ghostkeels show up, but they aren't 50%+ of his points. A decent chance of shutting down crisis shoot deathsquads seems pretty damn powerful.
>>
>>46914286
Personally I think regular Devastator squads are lack luster. Would replace it with a tank or Dreadnought.
>>
>>46914326
Our group did that and it ended up making markerlights irrelevant to the point you'd just take more Dakka.
>>
>>46914229
>>46914329
and having the tau, and only the MC spamming tau, be the only thing not getting shat all over by that formation is shitty.
Being able to basically guarentee a turn 1 assault with the jetbacks doesn't bother me. guarenteed turn 1 grav spam and/or pin two things on 3d6 that can go fuck itself.
>>
>>46914326
>>46914379
I think it should just cost 1 markerlight for every single point of cover you remove. I think that would make the type of cover you're ignoring matter without just making the markerlights themselves pointless.

Oddly enough, I think the army that would care the least is Tyranids. It has stuff that's either MCs or Fearless, and it's not exactly afraid of getting charged.

Granted, you still have the rest of a Marine list to stomp Nids with easily though.

It would make them irrelevant, you can still point and delete most vehicles just fine. But the armies reliant on jinks instead of steel aka Dark Eldar would be moderately survivable

nids would care about the formation. Because you're 2 assault squads and 2 devestator squads are scary to nids even without special rules.

I don't mind the base model and I like the armoured cockpit, but the entire concept of taking a weapon out of its original placement and mounting it elsewhere (not to mention, in an awful position that doesn't actually make much sense) to mount a different weapon in its original placement is so stupid that I can't for the life of me understand why no one questioned it during the design process.

I don't recommend mixing weapons on a suit or within a squad unless it's for shred overwatch in zone mortals or something, plus your infantry has enough S5 AP5. Dedicate to ignores cover with flamers or frag projectors, maybe give one of the suits a tl fusion blaster and target lock so he can hide behind his squad mates and shoot armor. Lose the bonding knife ritual.

Give the pathfinder Shas'ui (you missed the h both times) a Blacksun filter. Give EMP grenades to one of the strike teams. Maybe the support turret one since they have a bit more cover anyway.

I recommend picking up a piranha and a stealth suit team.

Would it be possible to make this work as a 1,000 point Tyranid army? It's basically a Living Artillery Node with two Flyrants as backup. I haven't done the wargear yet, kinda unfamiliar tyranids, but the base point cost without upgrades (except the venom cannon necessary for the formation and flyrant wings) is 820.

2x Flyrant
2x Mucolid Spore Cluster

3x Tyranid Warrior - Venom Cannon
3x Biovore
1x Exocrine
>>
>>46915292
Almost yeah. I don't have a lot, and one thing I do have I can't take hammerhead and another I won't this low. Riptide . I basically have the start collecting box, a relatiation cadre box, a pathfinder box, and a hammerhead.

>>46915326
Thanks for the advice, I'll try and work with the points on this. I think I'll just double up on the flamers which would free up 15 points, along with dropping the bonding knife rituals I'll have 21 left over. That'll get me the filter and EMP grenades with 10 points leftover. Any recommendations there? Thanks for the help.

I'm thinking I'll try and find an older battleforce box for what I pick up next. That'll get me the piranha and stealth team along with more crisis suits and another solid troops choice.

Riptide kinda made sense as a MC, as suits were infantry and that was a big suit.

Also, a jet pack walker would require new movement rules etc. Where a jetpack MC works within the existing core rules.

Tau suits were only ever infantry because they were made at a time where being Walkers would have actually been helpful. Having that much AV would have been annoying, so they made them suits instead.

The Riptide doesn't have the same excuse. It's a big singular unit. Walker status would fit it just fine.

Exactly. It's a Crisis Suit. It's a battlesuit. With a Pilot. Who flies it around and operates it.

Terminator armor is armor. You wear it. You walk around in it.

One is a vehicle that is piloted. One is armor that is worn.

There's a bunch of justification for why Crisis suits weren't made into walkers, some of it mechanical, and some of it fluff that might have been made up to justify that.

I'm not saying that Crisis suits should be walkers, but saying that they're just as much infantry as terminators is silly.

and here I thought the 1994 chaos familiars were old!

shame they last chanced the 1992 goblin wolves though
>>
>>46915894
Neat. I didn't know that they had the Space Wolves already labled as Grey Hunters, Runepriests, Wolf Priests, etc. that early in. I'm going to go recheck Book of the Astronomicon to see if that's what did it.
>>
>>46915900
>Librarian storm bolter
No

Ditch the bike squad and buy another transport, because you can't put multiple units in the same transport unless it's a superheavy. Those savings can go towards ML2 on your Lib
>>
>>46914286
any way you can fit in the missiles on the centurion devs? otherwise you're mixing target types.

DEDICATED TRANSPORTS - 2x Chimera - 130

HQ - Command Squad - 125

Decided the Bikers would probably be more useful than extra crap on the Inquisitor. Squeezed in another Chimera, dropped the Crusaders for Acolytes just to eat the dedicated transport tax.
>>
>>46915900
Hellrifle is alright, but it goes a lot better with terminator armor

The daemon blade is fun, but not very useful and it costs a lot

If the chimera is for your marines to poot around in, is the inquisitor footslogging with the crusaders? Why would you footslog with a hellfrifle and a daemonblade?

suicide melta command squad is everyone's go-to. Nothing wrong with it. I like plasma myself, but melta is good.

HSV guns are fine too.

Librarian is foot slogging?

>my suggestion
you have too much going on here, and only 1 transport. maybe replace the scions with a pair of razorbacks.

Not him, but you can't take a hellrifle with termy armor. The storm bolter can only be replaced by a psycannon.

So I have about 2k points of Grey Knights and two unbuilt boxes of Betrayal at Calth I've been sitting on, any suggestions for a Space Marine chapter that would complement them well now that the Angels of Death supplement is out? I'm thinking Sternhammer because I love bolters and have enough HBs to make a dev squad, and enough tacticals to balance the low model count GK allies (which would probably be 1 lib, 5 terminators, 2 NDKs)

better than your first version already.

I don't really see any problems other than your acolytes and inquisitor can't do anything, and that your army has an overall pretty low model count.

You are paying nearly 200 points for those chimeras, you you had best make good use of them. You might consider razorbacks still, but Chimeras are also the king of METAL BAWKSES for a reason. Your choice.

Also check your math, you say your MT detachment is 235 but 90 + 125 is only 215

Please SM players - when you get one of these rip those dogshit assault cannons off and buy some of these:
>>
>>46916384
basically you're expected to meet the charge because Sumo wrestlers have a reputation/traditional image as Honorable Champions. Now Henka(the name of the dodge move) is a thing you can do and people do but for rep reasons you don't see it the higher up in skill level you go. The dude there is a mid-rank dude and he's generally at a body mass disadvantage so he uses henka more often than most. The other wrestlers know this and are cautious about him using it, but that guy wasn't cautious enough. And if your opponent knows you're gonna do it they can capitalize on you doing a henka by getting you when you're off balance.

>>

Champ and apothecary as obligatory upgrades and the RW banner as a maybe. Grenade launchers aren't worth it anymore though.

Not really. The plasma talon is so much better weapon and could cause potentially 2 more casulties.

RW command isnt really suited anyway for against stuff they cant just insta-wipe with shooting+melee. Its likely that if it needs that stasis to hit, its not the right target for the unit.

It's good, fluffy and seems fun to play, but inefficient enough so that a WAAC would never touch it.

That's how all formation should look like.
>>
>>46916726

The highlights on the red, like on the sergeant's skull aquila banner and elsewhere is very good and is obviously 3+ steps.

Then 99% of the model is just a lazy pre-shaded white and one step sponge chipping.

It doesn't look "bad" but it's very obvious it was a lazy and simple airbrush job. If the painter had used more airbrush techniques or if he had usd paintbrush throughout it would have looked much better. Even some simple highlighting on the edge of the sponge chips would look better.

All of 40k models are over priced.

Why do you fa/tg/uys still play this game?

Is it the lore that keeps you wasting your wallet's contents?
Or is it a self-depreciating attitude; just somehow hoping that what you're doing is worthwhile?

Just go paint models that DON'T cost $300 each maybe?

The game is shit anyway, the only thing GW has is good looking models.

I know it's a hateful post, but if my tone seems aggressive I assure you it's actually just sheer confusion.
>>

>Overpriced

>>
>>46916691
>>46916826
>>46916890

I'm pretty sure that's not an actual release. It was part of the giant dioramas for Warhammer World's grand re-opening tour.

It showed the Ultramarines 2nd Co raining down on a bunch of Chaos titans and traitors. One drop pod was modeled hitting a Warhound Titan in the face and exploding with the titan in the middle of falling over from the impact.

It's a cool formation but it's not worth it since you can't purposely aim for impacts.
>>
>>46916988

Because I'm not poor. You said it yourself, the models look good, and I can easily afford it, so why shouldn't I buy them?

I don't even buy GW shit anymore it's mostly FW. And not Chinese FW either.

because the setting is great and its a fairly enjoyable game, and the models are real fucking nice, and i have no real motivation to go play le competitive warmahordes, which has fucking terrible models
>>
>>46917004

You don't even need to waste that much. Just waste 100 every 2-3 months. If you can't even afford that you're just pathetically broke and shouldn't be on 4chan at all, you should be looking for a second job, or more likely, a first fucking job to begin with.

Not like any of us paint that fast anyway, so might as well pace your purchases. 40k has one of the best dollar to years spent ratio of all /tg/'s other than P&P RPGs. That $100 squad of little plastic faggots probably got you more hours of painting, gaming, modelling, and "thinking/40k browsing" enjoyment than all your video games combined if you're a veteran player.

if you keep your books in good condition and your models painted nicely your resale value is pretty decent. it's not quite an "investment" but at least you can get some money back if you absolutely decide you want nothing to do with warhammer anymore. i buy hardbacks of all my novels, codices, and fw books, but i pirate the ecopies for actually reading them because im autistic and cant stand to see wear on my books. they just sit in perfect condition on my self

Taking a sigil makes you have a 3++, so much more survivable since they are going to attract fire and you're not expressly guaranteed to roll or get off Invisibility! That's another 125 points to add some peace of mind.

If you can't be spending all that stuff though, just give them a bike and a spell familiar with the mandatory VotLW. 500 points minimum.

So if you build this kit as a dakkajet/bomba you get the parts for a smasha gun and two KMKs left over. Plonk wheels on them and boom, 3 mek gunz.

>It's cheaper to buy a flyer kit than the Mek Gun kit

Bloody hell they stuffed the pricing on those up something chronic.

Hmm, I wonder if stacking formations and attack patterns would work. Or mixing aircraft, for that matter.
I've got a Stormwing, i.e. a Stormraven and two Stormtalon escorts, and Vehemence pattern seems pretty awesome for that, especially after the transport has delivered it's cargo.

>The Intolerance Attack Pattern works especially well against infantry that have gone to ground.
So now you can get Ignores Cover simply by arranging your models in a certain way. Whoopdeefuckingdoo.

Honestly, they should just go and put everything on the same S/T system and call it good.

Have Tanks tank shock at Str and have good armour/toughness. T7+ is enough to be immune to lasguns and bolters can glance most tanks to death with some work.

... Im gettin three and magnetizing for both ground and flight mode guns.

You also get 2 mega tellyport blastas and a KFF bit.

AV10: T6 6+ save
AV11: T7 5+ save
AV12: T8 4+ save
AV13: T9 3+ save
AV14: T10 2+ save

Vehicle: A unit with this special rule ignores the effects of the Poison and Fleshbane special rules, but is vulnerable to the Armourbane, Melta and Haywire special rules. Vehicles, unless they have the Walker special rule, cannot fight back in close combat, and count as WS1. If they did not move in the previous turn, they instead count as WS0.

Armourbane: When a weapon with Armourbane rolls to wound a target with the Vehicle special rule, it wounds on a 2+ regardless of the target's toughness.

Melta: When a melta weapon rolls to wound a target with the vehicle special rule, and the weapon is firing at half it's range or less, roll an extra D6 and add the results together to determine whether the target is wounded.

Haywire: When a Haywire weapon is fired at a model with the Vehicle special rule, do not roll to wound. Instead, roll on the following table:

1-3: No effect
4-5: 1 wound
6: D3 wounds

Armour saves may be taken as normal.

Didn't say cover, said Gone to Ground and a atrafing run does work rather well against that.
>>
>>46918273
Agreed. At the very least the walker/MC distinction needs to go. It'd be easy, too.
For example, Dreadnoughts would be around T6 W3 Sv2+ instead of their AV values.

... i hope they mean that they ignore the cover from going to ground.

A true Ignore Cover would be game breaking.
GW would never be so reckless.
Right?

I'd actually make the armour save a lot more variable. Add some granularity to vehicles.

Ork vehicles for instance might have a high toughness but low armour save as they are easy to penetrate, hard to make it do much.

Necron Vehicles with the special AV13 shielding may instead have a bit of a low toughness but have a 2+ Inv that goes away after the first failed save.

Tau Vehicles have a mediocre armour save but have an innate cover save so it's harder to ignore.

The SOB Repressor might have a general 4+ save but has a 2+ against attacks in the front arc because it's got that gigantic bulldozer blade on it and a load of extra reinforcement.

I'd make the 'Usual' save for a vehicle 4+. Enough to shrug off light arms like bolters but weak enough that Heavy Bolters and Autocannons do some work.

What I'd do weapon-wise:

Melta: When a melta weapon rolls to wound a target and the weapon is firing at half it's range or less it gains the Multiple Wounds(2d3) rule.

Armourbane (X+): When a weapon with Armourbane rolls to wound a target with the Vehicle special rule, it wounds on a X+ regardless of the target's toughness.

So armourbane becomes a mirror of Poison and many anti-tank weapons would get innate Multiple Wounds.

Meltagun: 12" Str 8 AP 1, Melta, Multiple Wounds(d3)
