In my group, sadly that's both. I play with two couples, and they're always all over each other. One isn't too bad because they're chad and stacy and frankly I'd pay money to watch them bone, but the other couple is a fat guy with bad skin and a sickly guy with horrible skin, and it just makes me uncomfortable - not only because of the gay thing, but also they're gross.

My group plays friday nights after work/co-op/school/whatever (youngest is 2nd year college and we all know each other from highschool) We start at 7 and order pizza right away. we hang out until the pizza arrives (you know cause we're all friends) then all chip in for the pizza and have dinner. THEN we start the session (usually around 8ish) and run until 2 or 3 in the morning. We have beer and snacks freely available because we all split the cost.

I'm actually a bit on the chubby side. It's just that sometimes life gets in the way and you have to go a while without eating. Work, hanging with friends, watching movies, there's tons of times where you just don't have time to eat and you have to go 6-8 hours without eating. Eat a decent amount before you have these situations and you're golden.
I swear this is an American thing to eat, eat, eat. All the Americans I work with, fat and skinny, always seem to snack through the day. Even if it's just a tiny bit of food here and there.
