Well, I can see why you're having trouble. Big butts in Red isn't the most common occurrence. I'm thinking of some kind of P/T switching or flowstone effect. Maybe something like
>1R: ~ gets +2/-1 until end of turn.
>>
>>46880623

The concern I have with that is that +2/-1 for 1R is worse than just going 'Has firebreathing'.

My usual idea of 'Give it haste' doesn't really work on an expensive firebreather as you have no mana to make it work and red hasn't got too many other evergreens.

I'm not normally a fan of Kazy or his cards, but in his defense, it's a balance effect, and it is white. The card itself is busted as fuck though; 4 mana for a fat-bottomed double striker that can wipe out two permanents a turn? Dinking around with a new mechanic. I really like Auras, and think that they need something to distinguish them more from Equipment, besides being basically worse. Totem Armor was a good step in that direction, and I thought about using it, but I then thought "well this is a custom set, so shouldn't I make a custom mechanic?" So I thought about it for a bit, and then thought how well-received cards tend to be that replace themselves, like Doomed Traveler, and so I thought that maybe that could be what Auras could do; you "get something back" when they go to the yard, so it doesn't feel like you're always getting 2 for 1ed. And since Totem Armor has a lock down on "regen" type effects that save the permanent they are enchanting, I thought a "reshape" effect that gives you a new Aura card could be fun. It means you might actually want to draft Auras, and you can thin your deck with it a little while getting some value out of an enchanted creature getting killed. Thoughts? At first I was going to have it do like Squadron Hawk and look for itself, but that means drafting more than one copy of any Aura, and that it'd suck on higher rarity cards. So I made it more flexible. Sure you can theoretically have a one-mana Aura grab you a six mana Aura but you still gotta be able to cast it or get it onto the field somehow, so at least initially it doesn't seem busted, so I don't think I need to do the Soulshift thing with it, but let me know if you think otherwise.

It also has the benefit of fitting in with the set's theme of "get something for losing something", so that's a nice flavor bonus.
>>
>>46892260
Oops, needs to reveal that Aura, but you get the idea.

>>46892260
>the graveyard
This needs to be changed to specify any graveyard, or the owner's graveyard. This in turn determines if the controller gets the tutor, or the owner.
>>
>>46892260
>When this {if is_creature(card.super_type) then "creature dies" else "is put into a graveyard from the battlefield"}, you may search your library for an Aura card and reveal it. If you do, put the revealed card into your hand, then shuffle your library.
>>
>>46892451
Not it wouldn't it always goes into its owner's graveyard. That it specifies you, means that the controller of the aura searches.
>>
>>46892525
>When this permanent is put into a graveyard from the battlefield
>When this permanent is put into your graveyard from the battlefield
See the difference?
>>
>>46892451
I noticed it needs to shuffle as well. I think since you can't put things into your library, graveyard, and hand that you don't own, I don't need to specify that, but I do need to specify that the Aura's owner tutors, yeah

>Supes giving an anthem
Hm. Not a bad idea, honestly. I almost want to suggest trying giving him vigilance (i know, i know) and a tap ability that gives another creature you control hexproof UEOT. That way he can "save" people but he can't be everywhere at once (yes I was thinking of Pa Kent dying when I thought of this just now). I dunno. Some of these heroes are just gonna be tough nuts to crack.
>>
>>46892580
Actually hm. If Boon is only ever going to be on beneficial auras, I wouldn't need to specify the controller but, but... that also means I can't use it on detrimental auras. So maybe I should specify owner tutors, and change the name to something that doesn't make it sound like it only belongs on beneficial stuff.
>>
>>46892260
I'd do it like transmute, where you pay 3 mana and exile it from your graveyard to tutor an aura. As is, a lot of the value would be in replacing itself, rather than the aura's abilities.

>>46892383
and shuffle

>>46892451
It's alright, but nothing particularly Superman about it. Or green really.
>>
>>46892563
If the second one was the case, nobody would search if you controlled but didn't own it.
>>
>>46892580
>Aura's owner tutors
I would actually suggest making the controller tutor, instead of the owner. It just feels cleaner to me that way. Actually, allow me to provide you with a template, because your reminder text has a few things wrong.
>When this [permanent/Aura] is put into [a/your] graveyard from the battlefield, you may search your library for an Aura card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
I think this gets the point across well enough. First, I want you to think about what cards you'll put this on. Will it be cards of all types, or just Auras? Second, the second part where I give you multiple choices is very important. By specifying "a" graveyard, the effect works for the controller. By specifying "your" graveyard, the effect works for the owner.

This either limits me to purely beneficial Auras, or makes it feel shitty for the Aura's owner when their opponent gets a free tutor. If I do it that the owner always gets the tutor, as I said, I can do detrimental Auras too, like Dead Weight or Stab Wound. I'd just need to rename it.

Maybe. Part of me wonders if it's a better idea than this whole Boon business, but I want things to go to the yard in this set so maybe not. Still, it's something to think about for future sets, if I remember that is.

Also I renamed Boon to Lore. It fits a bit better with the set flavor and sounds less odd when it's on detrimental Auras. I also locked it to the Aura type so it won't be popping up on any creatures or anything.

Please read that page. But if you don't, the TL;DR is that saccing on end step for Auras is a tricky, confusing business. Make a new keyword for Auras that moves saccing to the cleanup step instead.

Making my appearance in the new thread. Changed Dismantle's wording to be more open-ended. Not sure if I'm gonna do Fortifications or not, but this seemed like a good idea to start with. Espionage is an idea, but I don't think I like it. Still would rather have black's mechanic be something to do with Pollution (maybe some sort of land interaction, making fortifications an interesting possibility again). As for the white guys, just a thematic idea I had.
>>
>>46892260

Repeatable tutoring is a little broken - I don't think there's ever been a keyword that let's you search up your stuff, and I think to properly balance it you'd need the boon cards to be more costed than you'd like. I think this card would be better as 1W with boon being draw a card instead of tutoring.
>>
>>46893480
Ah, for if I try to use Dash. So actually making a new keyword would be better, if I intended on doing so, since that would allow any +N/+N Auras to keep the creatures they are attached to alive through SBAs before the cleanup step. Gotcha. So it's either do the new keyword, or confuse a TON of players who might be even worse at the rules than me. I think for now I'll err on the side of "I don't trust myself and the set likes Lore better anyway" and stash AuraDash for a rainy day. Maybe if I ever do an Enchantment set; something like Theros but obviously not a return to such.
>>
>>46892904

I really, really like this idea for dash on an aura. This version of it might be overpowered but tweak the mana on it...

I dunno if it's any more busted than Squadron Hawks, which was why I mentioned it initially. If it let you tutor for anything I might be inclined to agree with you more.

Well, lord knows auras have never been OP before, so there might be room for this and I'm just being pessimistic.

I think MaRo might say that it decreases variance too much, though? At least if it's a keyword/theme of a set. Magic is great because every game is partially different beause Of the draw, they don't print a ton of tutors because that's a critical part of the game, even if the tutoring effect itself isn't broken.

I like the effect as a one-off, or a cycle, but as a keyword I'm somewhat skeptical.
>>
>>46893570
I like the black Rigger only "copycatting" other Contraption assemblage; conveys black's "envy" trait pretty well. Same with Espionage, though it doesn't reward you at all for being ahead so that could feel a bit bad at times. Dismantle... I dunno how I feel about it. It could play well in the right set, but it'd be very dependent on the set environment.
>>
>>46893700

On second thought, I guess the most similar mechanic would be rebels, which I think was generally considered successful (or anyway, successful enough to bring back in time spiral). I can't remember any of the designers faulting the mechanic for reducing variance in gameplay, anyway.
>>
>>46893700
I also understand that they don't want a lot of tutoring because it leads to a lot of shuffling, which can delay the game. You did mention cycles, and I think you're on to something, so most likely what will happen is each color getting a common Aura that does it, then each multicolor pair getting one at uncommon most likely, to keep it as something you can draft around but prevent it from being a full-on archetype. I mostly just want to make Auras not feel so crummy all the time. The only other way is to push the hell out of them but all that does is demand removal and lead to other crap. I guess we'll see how it goes.

>>46893666
Making a card that gives any card in your hand Transmute is pretty decent, but it also becomes a 2 for 1, so I almost wonder if it should cantrip? I dunno.

>>46893732
Let me just point out that in - what was the set, Mercadian Masques? - there was a Mercenary vs. Rebel theme, and the two had similar, but different, mechanics. And Maro said that the theme failed because, between the two, the Rebel mechanic was objectively better than the Mercenary mechanic.

>>46893781
Well, you don't have to discard a card, you could use mana.
>>
>>46893833

>>
>>46893833
I meant cantrip if you discarded. Derp. But still, getting a cheap tutor, even if it costs 2 cards, might very well be worth it.

Of course, this card now makes that idea meh, so...
>>
I know this is a pipe dream, but just fired off this ask to maro on tumblr.

" Have you guys considered harnessing the talent of the amateur magic card design community? I know you can't look at them because of legal issues, but trust me, some of it is quite good.

Not to go all business major on you, but user created content, from twitch to youtube, is here to stay. What I'm thinking is an apprentice-like program that is a little more permissive than mtgo, requiring the user to resolve most of the effects. People could upload entire sets at their leisure, and you could either pay a set fee to unlock all the cards and a limited format, or else even buy individual card packs, with some of the money going to the creators, some of it going to wizards, as in the Twitch model.

I know you're not on the business side, but whaddya think? "
>>
>>46893858
Less useful? You think paying 1 mana is more of a disadvantage than practically skipping your next draw?
>>
>>46893916
Well, keep an eye out for the response. Maro answers so many questions a day and never tags a single damn response that it's hard to find out if he ever answered a question you give him. And honestly, no, I doubt they'd ever do that. I believe they did do something like this before, it was called a Designer Search, or something like that, but I don't think they'd ever do it again. Also, with the amount of issues most custom cards have, I doubt they'd ever take us seriously.

UGH, I SHOULD BE IN BED

Well, you could easily split up the characters into Black and non-Black, with Black of course representing the guys who want to pollute the Earth. Though I guess Captain Planet could be five-color, but that is kinda awkward.

But looking at the kidnapped children - I'm sorry, Planeteers - we get
>Kwame: Earth - Green or Red
>Wheeler: Fire - Red
>Linka: Wind - Blue or Green
>Gi: Water - Blue
>Ma-Ti: Heart - White?
Though I have to say, I don't really give much of a fuck about the show anyway. I guess it could be interesting. I'll have to see how I feel about it later.

Alternate Planeteer colors:
>Kwame: Earth - Black for being a negro
>Wheeler: Fire - White for being a memeber of the master race
>Linka: Wind - Red for being a commie
>Gi: Water - Multicolor for being yellow
>Ma-Ti: Heart - Colorless for being brown
Oh, and Captain Planet would be all the colors for looking like a fag.
What the fuck is wrong with me?

This made me have an interesting thought.

Crystalline Castle
Land
~ enters the battlefield tapped.
When ~ enters the battlefield, put a charge counter on each land you control.
T: Add (anusmana) to your mana pool.
Lands you control have "T, Remove a charge counter: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."

Possibly less broken but also useless version two

Rainbow Bridge
Land
When ~ enters the battlefield, tap it, then put a charge counter on each tapped land you control.
Lands you control have "T, Remove a charge counter: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."
T: Add (anusmana) to your mana pool.

For thread challenge

Eskri, the Deepwinder 3GU
Legendary Creature- Snake Shaman
Whenever you draw a card, snakes you control get +1/+1 until end of turn.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have seven or more cards in hand, draw a card.

My advice is to cheat. The green one uses the allowable green lopsided fight (like Polukranos) to set up pseudofirststrike, and maybe the blue one avoids getting blocked entirely?
Blue's the puzzle there.

Less with the thread theme, but...

Iormun, Ourbouric Seer 2RG
Planeswalker- Iormun
+2: Tap target land. Add one mana of any mana it could produce to your mana pool.
-3: Look at the top three cards of your library. You may reveal a land card among them. If you do, put it onto the battlefield tapped. Put another into your hand, and the rest info your graveyard.
-9: You get an emblem with "Lands you control are 2/2 Snake creatures." and "Snakes you control have Indestructible and 'T: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.'"

>>
>>46896484
Yeah, but yours doesn't have first strike, and adding a colour roughly translates as a 40-70% of a colorless mana, on top of the +1 on the CMC. Basically, adding 'colour weight' gives you more leeway on what you can do. If you're paying four mana for a 2/2, it better be worth it. As is, it's too slow for it to be good.
>>
>>46896714

This set is supposed to be for limited play. What do you think of these cards? Hypothetically, as they are worded now, you could just go grab a wad of seven basic lands. Or if you were swamped with land you could grab some stuff from your pool. Mill isn't a thing in this set so the whole slowing down a mill deck doesn't really apply with these cards. Is seven the right number? Should it be four to five? Five or more? Something like that?

If you want the last part to trigger for every creature independently, I'd rephrase it to

Nobody complains about the parasitism of mirrodin because they were retroactively made non-parasitic. If you want to make the case that kamigawa's tribes were poor for some other reason than that'd be interesting, but saying they were parasitic is basically saying 'you shouldn't make more of this tribe because there aren't enough cards of this tribe'; it makes some sense, but it is still blatantly self defeating.

The 'artifacts matter' and more specifically, the 'artifact creatures' matter themes in mirrodin were incredibly parasitic at the time, think of how many artifact creatures were playable before mirrodin... Affinity wasn't just terrible because it was extremely dominant in extended and other formats, even in extended it was little more than a block constructed deck, it took nothing from other blocks. Because affinity became dominant in multiple metagames and still present in the memories of players wizards has continuously printed more support for it retroactively making it not parasitic when it had every right to be.

Did the definition change on me again? I thought it meant that you couldn't play with other cards from earlier in your collection which is exactly what mirrodin's cards did.
>>46904977
Scars of mirrodin's own artifact theme was incentivised by the persistence of mirrodin's cards, as was the esper shard in alara block (the only reason to make colored artifacts in the first place is so that they can work with the artifact tribe). The devoid tribal isn't exactly the same as it stretches the tribe in the opposite direction but it still effectively extended the cardpool for affinity decks. The thopter tribe of magic origins, steel overseer, hangarback walker and baleful strix.
I find incredibly hard to believe that interacting with artifact tribal wasn't a huge part of most of their designs.
I don't think that they were printed for the purpose of making mirrodin cards less parasitic, it was more like 'people with artifact decks will like/want this card' but the end result is the same; previously arcbound ravager worked well with basically 0 cards outside of mirrodin block and now he's completely surrounded by them.

Hey anon, look what I found! *gasp* Wait a minute! This synergizes with artifacts, but it was made before Mirrodin! And Mirrodin, as we all know, is the first block that ever introduced cards that synergize with artifacts, even though it was incredibly parasitic when it first came out. Do you know what this means? It means that Wizards must've travelled back in time to plant this card, as well as many others, in earlier sets all in order for the Mirrodin block to be less parasitic when they actually introduce artifact synergy! My god anon, you're so smart, where would we be without you?

Nice meme! By the way you forgot mishra's workshop, clearly affinity had so much support throughout all of magic's history, people playing standard and extended just forgot about all of those great artifact cards, you know, I heard they didn't have as good deck building tools back then, certainly they couldn't hold a candle to a master such as yourself.

>People of the Cataract
The elves. They live around a mirror lake fueled by a cascade somewhere in the Great Forest, south of the continent. They are divided in castes : the "Army", the "Pious" and the "People". They live in symbiosis with the seasons dryads (Summer and Winter Dryads being the "Mothers", superior to the elves and the Spring and Fall Dryads being the "Sisters" equals to the elves)

>Dwarven Kingdoms
The Dwarven Kingdoms are an alliance of several City, all of them founded in the mountain range of the north of the continent. Their foundries are directed by the Priests of the Forge, clerics that combine blacksmithing and divine prayers to create weapons and armors.

>Human Kingdom
Same as the Dwarven Kingdom, the Human Kingdom are an alliance of Human Cities found on the Northeast coast of the continent. Most of the region hates non-humans, the reaction going from disgust to hunting down.

>Tower of the Magus
An organisation founded several centuries ago that regulate magic and war on the continent. Nothing can happen without the Tower hearing of it. Despite its name, there is not only wizards working for the Tower since it serves as the official mercenary guild.

>Sea Empire
The Githyanki empire is located on an archipelago far from the east coast. Most of what is known about them comes from the ships attacking the free villages and kingdoms along the coast.

>People of Scales
The Dragonborn Empire died many years ago and is now reduced to a city-state near the mountains in the north. They are in cold war with the Tiefling city-state in the south, who they hold responsible for the death of both their empires.

>Tiefling Empire
The Tiefling Empire died many years ago and is now reduced to a city-state near the forest in the south. They are in cold war with the Dragonborn city-state in the north, who they hold responsible for the death of both their empires.

A city coming from another world because of an accident, using cyberpunk technology. It is a isolationist military dictorship. Thanks to the treaty of non-aggression between them and the Tower of the Magus, they can do whatever they want in their region as long as they stay there.

>Free People
Any person that doesn't like the rules of their state can live in exile in the Free Lands, that constitute most of the continent, under the protection of the Tower of Magus. The free people gather in nomadic or sedentary communities, where you can find pretty much any races.

That's it for the main factions.
Here are the "minor" :

>Stronghold of the Fighter
A elit unit mostly independent of the Tower of the Magus, consisting of the best mercenaries of the continent, called in case of continent-scale threats.

>Jusankishi
A gathering of renegades mages that want to bring down the Tower of the Magus for their ideals of freedom. They are prone to inside fight because of their differents ideals.

>The Lost Aspects (The BBEG of my campaign)
An entity divided in 9 bodies and personalities, most of which wants to destroy/conquer/hurt the world. They were sealed away by the founders of the Tower but the sealed was unstable (completely destroyed by my PC)

Well, that's always been a problem with the character. Though it's not like he's a Mary Sue or anything. And I've personally read quite a few stories about him that were pretty interesting. >>
>>46924839
What do you see in fortifications?
>>
>>46928292
At least some of these fortifications make sense since they change the land into a creature. Fortifications are really no better than an enchantment most of the time, but if land destruction in rampant in the format or the fortification animates the land, then fortifications are relevant since they can be moved to another land after the fortified land dies.
>>
>>46928292
An interesting way of incorporating equip mechanics in a way that also makes land play - which I've always loved - more viable. Why?
>>
>>46921943
Ohh, make it a planeswalker that transforms into an emblem :D
>>
>>46928812
While you could do the same with recurring Auras, I do like the idea of Forts animating lands. Seems more elegant that constant re-casting.

>>46928853
More viable? How? You can use more than one Fort on the same land.

Now that I think of it, would a Fort ever fall off it the land stopped being a land? Is the same true for Equips and creatures?
>>
>>46929532
Equipments and Fortifications do indeed fall off if the permanent they're attached to loses the appropriate types.
