If they're bored they're just more likely to want to sneak a peek. Besides, that's obviously an important progression, and that's the most sacred statue in the monastery. Why else would the PC be stealing those particular jewels? He's got no space for carrying more than that, so if he's stealing those they must obviously be the most expensive ones. You don't get to have important progressions in the most sacred chamber in the monastery all day erry day, you know.
