Ancient Monastic Brewery and beehives.

unfortunately the underground brewery has been colonised and filled with traps by a group of wenches, whose raiding of the beehives for their mead has made the Dark Bees perpetually angry!

A dwarf mine that's following a gold vein vaguely upward and doesn't know the monastery is there. One day, a very confused dwarfish mining group pops out of the head of the monastery's sacred gold statue and things get ugly fast.

The ruined palace of a demon prince who was vanquished by the men who founded the order of monks who eventually built the monastery. This demon prince has passed into myth, believed to be a cautionary allegorical fiction to warn against despotism, but was in fact a very real being whose evil reign was uncontested for thousands of years of anguish and servitude in the distant past and even prehistory. Though vanquished, his malice remains, and though it has taken centuries upon centuries, the dark whispers of this echo of hatred and vengeance have finally begun to reach through the rock and sand and stonework into the monastery above. Recently, some monks have been exhibiting strange behavior...

>>46841572
Turns out the monastery was built by a secret order of treasure hunters, who saw it as their sacred mission to unearth and recover lost artifacts, sacred texts etc.. What they did with their findings, we've only begun to discover.
>>
>>46842749
And the monastery was built on top of a large dungeon, presumably containing a sizable amount of artifacts and dangers, to allow them to work in secret.

And then does it turn out that they are just a bunch of heathen weirdos who wear blankets with cut out holes so that no one trys to follow or identify them and they have somekind of a spring arrival festival but they need a female virgin who acts as the festival leader because the tradition demands it.

They don't do anything with her and and it's just a carnival in the old wine cellar with lot's of wine loud music and dancing which the villagers mistake as the howling of the undead.
When it's over do they release the virgin but the girls have to keep it a secret so that outsiders stay away from the monastry.

The monastery was destroyed dozens of years ago when its order crumbled. It was said they couldn't maintain themselves after their grandmaster monk fell deathly ill and was buried alive in a soul cleansing ritual. The grandmaster promised to watch over his monastery as a saint until the torch is passed on to the next grandmaster (who was never appointed). Travelers who pass near the ruins sometimes claim to hear faint bell sounds coming from somewhere in the monastery, although nothing is ever found there. Pilgrims often use the ruins as a stopping point for prayers and shelter, and also swear they can sometimes hear the sound of a bell. These stories are usually discarded as superstitions and myths by the higher classes and the clergy. Despite no strong guard presence, the monastery never fell prey to bandits and other outlaws. It is said that those with ill intent suffer misfortune there, and outlaws, who are naturally a superstitious cowardly lot, avoid the place at all costs.

In the campaign I'm currently in there is a temple built at the base of a volcano that is the latest one to be built at that site.
Under it was what remained of the previous one, that before that and before that. Five temples in all.
Beneath it all are ancient, empty lava tubes that only a select few are allowed to enter.
Inside that is a sixth temple that, according to legend, was actually created by the fire goddess the temples worship.
The temple is to a pantheon of utterly alien gods.

I think my Cleric is worshipping a Cleric of Old Ones.

>What lies under the ancient monastery?
Most frequently it would be empty cellars that have been ransacked and stripped of anything useful before the place was abandoned and left to it's own fate.

Or alternatively, in rare occasions, a cave or a crypt inhabited by the Old One, a member of the previous, highly advanced civilization who has been granted immortality.

They aren't usually much fun though. Reminding of dried up mummies, are usually barely even conscious, much less capable of speaking or moving. Driven mad by the endless passage of time, lost in the mental worlds they build for themselves, weakened, innert. The more blessed one live feral like the mythological troglodytes and no one would guessed they had been, once, the greatest poets, scientists and scholars of their culture. The less blessed ones are locked in their minds, unable of motion, their consciousness barely existing.

Stories tell about people who learned great wisdom or gained fantastic gifts of these immortals. But those were born in the heads of romantics and dreamers.

Jars of an ancient variety of honey that induces eternal sleep. Through it, one may ascend to the realm of dreams, rather than the afterlife.

The realm of dreams is a twisted and chaotic place, and though its people are happy, they do not think as we do, or as any creature does. The unique logic of their realm renders even decapitation something to laugh about. They're completely and utterly mad - and completely and utterly immortal.

And if you eat the honey? That will be you.
