So Paolo Parente is trying to rebrand Dust... again. What does /tg/think about this? I've heard the game is good, just the creator is an asshole.

This is all the rebranding Dust needs.

Go away Paolo, stop ruining something I like.

What do you like about it?
>>
>>46836494
That actually does look better.

I want to play your game Paolo, I really do, but if you keep meddling in it then I'm fucking out.
>>
Can someone fill me in on what he did?
>>
>>46838351
As I understand it, Paolo had Fantasy Flight make some rules for DUST, called DUST Warfare which let you play the game like a standard wargame with lots of units. Apparently he didn't like that because that's not the "vision" he had for the game, which is code for being butt hurt that FF rules are better than his.

>is this any good

It's one of those "no news" things, I imagine -

The models are ridiculously overpriced for lightly GS'd Green Army Men - I'm talking in the US$30 range for a single light infantry model (identical to the $20 LIM but with a bit of guitar wire on the back marking it as the "Badass" version of Mr. Twenty who is himself the squintworthy upgrade for Mr. TotallyNotCadian Ten).

I think if the rules were awesome enough to justify such model prices, someone on /tg/ would be shilling it a little more enthusiastically than OP is doing. People would certainly be more willing to overlook Mr. Parente's personal foibles if he'd shat out a 40k-killer.

Clearly, that is not the case.

So what is the game supposed to be then?

It's an alternate WWII, basically:

>an alien crash lands in Antarctica
>the Nazis capture the alien and his ship
>the Nazis reverse engineer the tech and get lasers, jets, zombies, mechs and a load of other stuff out of it
>the Nazis begin to stomp the ever loving Christ out of everyone
>the Soviets manage to capture some Nazi tech, reverse engineer it and share it with the allies
>the Nazis find out that the alien was a scout for a larger force, come to the realization that humanity needs to be united or they are going to be fucked. The allies and the soviets are almost certainly not going to accept this, at least not with Hitler in charge, so the German army decide to kill Hitler, wipe out the Nazis, and open up peace talks.
>nobody believes the Germans about the aliens but they're are open to the idea of peace, however Britain doesn't want to invite Russia. The Americans are open to negotiate too but want to put a lot of the German Armies commanders on trial for war crimes. Germany refuses and the Russians get super pissed about the peace negotiations going on without them.
>everything falls apart and everyone keeps fighting.

tl;dr the year is 1947 and there is only war.

The setting is pretty cool and the last set of rules I read were good, Dust: Tactics I think? But Paolo Parente is such an egotistical asshole it basically doesn't matter how good the fluff or rules are it's never going to work as long as Paolo is involved.

You'd be better off picking up pic related when Warlord release it and use Dust minis if you like them.

It's basically Bolt Action but with sci-fi stuff so you'd be able to play Bolt Action too.

>the creator is an asshole
I heard a bit straight from him, and to me it sounds like a nice guy. Besides that I don't know anything about the DD saga.

>>46835234
The miniature are "meh". Not that they look bad, in fact quite the oposite, but they are all prepainted plastic and that is fucking disgusting in my book. Also sold in big faction boxes only so it makes expecially hard to get the single one you especially want.
>>
>>46842152
>sounds like a nice guy

He might be but DUST has gone through about 4-5 different versions with different companies all of whom have nothing but bad things to say about him.

It's possible he's a nice guy but a shit businessman who is a nightmare to work with and at the end of the day the common factor in DUST failing is Paolo.

>He might be but DUST has gone through about 4-5 different versions with different companies all of whom have nothing but bad things to say about him.

How is that pussible? Why dopn't the companies just tell him to go suck a cock and produce a game with similar theme? It's not like the concept of WWII + alien supertech can be protected by the law.
>>
>>46842584

He's a pretty well known artist, I can only assume that carries enough weight for him to keep getting people to get behind his ideas.
>>
>>46842632
How come? He's basicaly fetish artist. Kind of a softer Shirow.
>>
>>46842716

Well yeah but if Shirow decided to make a miniatures game people would jump all over it.
>>
>>46837620
It is (or at least was) a fun Board Wargame with decent miniatures at a good price point. It was pretty much exactly what I want when I don't have the time, space or patience to set up a Wargame. I like the style, the gameplay is neat and the walkers were great, especially for the price.

>>46838351
I should make a fucking copypasta...

>Dust Tactics is a Boardgame
>People want a Wargame, so it gets an extra Wargames ruleset
>Paolo is buttblasted that the Wargame is more popular and tries to tank it
>Eventually, he and FFG have a falling out and Dust pulls out of there
>Dust starts cooperating with Battlefront
>FFG firesales its ginormous stock while Battlefront struggles to get out product
>Nobody buys shit from Battlefront
>They decide to do a kickstartet and leave the management to Battlefront
>Battlefront takes the money to bay its own debt
>Battlefront wants Dust Studios to deliver the product before they pay them the money they need to make the product
>Shit goes nuclear
>Paolo tries to sic the internet on Battlefront, dragging the issue into the open
>Plan backfires
>Shit goes beyond nuclear and people hate both companies, but Dust more because Paolo
>Somehow Dust manages to get the Backers their shit
>Dust and BF separate, and now we're here
>>
This nigga dumb as fuck, nobody knows or cares who he is
>>
>>46842901
>if Shirow decided to make a miniatures game people would jump all over it.
I know I would.
>>
>>46843997
It would be full of gun-porn, tech-porn, mecha-porn and porn-porn.

In other words, I'd back that kickstarter in a second.
