Can your current character defeat Drizzt?
>>
>>46808509

That depends. Is R.A.Salvatore my GM?
>>
>>46808509
My current character is a 350 point GURPS character who is both a former Delta Operator and cursed with immortality. He has something I don't though, plot armor.

I would die.
>>
>>46808509
To beat the sue you must become a sue. To that end I ask if the player of the character can go after R.A. Salvatore.
>>
>>46808509

Nope. He's just a guard NPC I've suddently taken control of. He'd die before he even got to say anything.
>>
>>46808509
Sure. I just lead him into the killzone of my turrets. Something like this should ensue:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uppER9z7Ejg
>>
>>46808509
There needs to be a Drizzt version of the Madara copypasta
>>
I don't think my character's plot armor is thicker than his.
>>
Can Pun Pun?
>>
>>46808509
Lord, no. I'm a middle-aged Serbian gangster with some experimental drugs. He'd kick my ass seventeen ways to Sunday.
>>
Well, my character is a high level warblade, and warblades are better than rangers, riiight?
Well, his plot armor is scary, though. I don't think my Concentration checks and spiked kyton chains could pass through that.
>>
I think crack shot Tactical Marine in service of Deathwatch is enough.
>>
I never read any Drizzt stories.
How does his usual plot armor look like?
>>
>>46808509
Yes
The real question is Why would they fight ?
>>

>>

>>
>>46808509
My current character is a PL 10 cthulhu superman who can teleport, fly through space, regenerate and has a mêlée reach of 500ft with all eight of his ambidextrous alien arms. He also returns to life two weeks after he was killed and is immune to aging and environmental damage.

M&M characters are OP as fuck.
>>

Nah I'm fucked.
I mean if he fails the save on a Chromatic orb then sure I guess I can take him.

I would certainly try to, but I think my Plot Armor is a bit lacking...
>>
>>46808509
Depends. What's Drizzt's Will save?
>>
My character's a fairly powerful Telepath/Telekine Psyker, assuming I can survive his opening blows(not likely) I can mindrape him into submission with Psychic Shriek and Hallucinate.

So no. I'm fucked.
>>
>>46811359

>>
>>46808509
I am not dealing with mary sue stuff from lowest of low d&d races.
>>
>>46811408
In that case, my character now has an excellent mindslave.
>>
Lets see
>4th level undead paladin
Nah
>basically forrest gump on steroids
Nah
>an inquisitor
Nah
>a speed freak demon high on drugs, highly resistant to damage, immortal and with regeneration and teleportation powers
He might not be able to beat him, but he can't be beaten by him in any significant measure
>>
>>46811419
He doesn't look like one of those neckbeard dwarves to me.
>>
> a coked up rigger who keeps tweaking his Death Van

probably
>>
>>46808509
I'm playing Mutant & Mastermind campaign. So yes.
>>
>>46811424
> His personal skill is to get natural 20 as a result on every saving throw he roll.
>>
>>46811424
You need a spell with 30 will save to dominate him.
And situational modifiers will mean you would want 35 or more, to avoid him breaking it.
>>
>>46808509
He has a gun, and a bunch of drones with guns (including one with an LMG that can cloak)

>Pathfinder - Level 3 Merfolk Bard.
I'm guessing it won't go well for me, though I'm only vaguely aware of Drizzt as a character.

Best option I think, would be to escape into the water and stay far enough away so he can't get to me.
If there isn't any water near-by or, if by escaping, I place one of my sisters or our non-swimming ranger friend at risk then it's time to try and call for a truce before finally making myself look small and beg for him to not hurt me.
>>
>>46808509
He's got something like 12 Levels in Warrior, 6 in Ranger and 1 in Barbarian, right?

Last 3.5 character I played was a Warblade 10/ Beguiler 10. He could probably take him.
>>
>>46811655
>Not waiting until he's asleep

>>46811850
You misunderstand. My character is a debuff specialist who steals bodies. There's no reason for him to keep Drizzt's mind intact, or even conscious.
>>
>>46810814
In what conceivable game is that your PC?
>>
>>46813164
>3.5 FRCS
I'm not sure whether I dislike that 3.5's obvious implementation of RAI was so badly presented in actual core 3.5, or if I like that the grossly unoptimized NPCs make charoppers go full frontal autism.
>>
>>46808509
I'm currently playing a level 3 Battlemaster.

What do my chances look like?
>>
>>46814956

>>
>>46808509
In personal combat? Fuck no. But he does have a rather large robot with some very loud guns. He would speak boldly of chivalry and autocannon and stomp the elf if allowed full gear.
>>
>>46814956
He's a ranger in 5e, so literally worst class. So you might stand a slight chance.
>>
>>46814114
This could be done in shadowrun. If the fight allows full gear then it is just a rigger otherwise you could use a cyborg that has this as its body.

I play a wizard.

So yes.

How is Drizzt a Sue?
>>
>>46809861
Eh, its not that great. The books are actually a decent enough read what you see here though is memes and misinformation, aka people circle-jerking about how bad a character is despite never having read a book with said character.

People tend to forget that when Drizzt was written Drow were barely known as anything other than "Those black Elves from D&D" and get mad that nowadays everyone wants to be an special drow snowflake.

TL;DR: Drizzt was a special snowflake before special snowflakes were a thing and this makes people hate him irrationally.

Why would he need to defeat him?
Drizzt is a reasonable sort, despite my Warlock having an evil alignment I am sure we can talk this through without resorting to violence since I am not playing a childeating murderrapist just a morally challenged gentlemen.
>>
>>46815940
I'm pretty sure some of the drows he interacted with outside the underdark had evil and neutral alignments, and he didn't go on a killing spree.

>>46815875
Honestly I have more of a problem with Salvatore's dark elves being a BDSM fantasy run by a lolrandumbevil goddess. The renaissance Florence aspect of drow politics wasn't that bad.

Drizzt pretty much requires drow society to be Stupid Evil for his character to work as is. He wouldn't make much sense if they were Dunmer or Mystara Shadow elves instead.

Sometimes authors in D&D headcanoning enemy races was really good (PS:T literally created the entirety of Gith lore), and then we got the Drow.

>>
>>46815940
You're arguing over skub. That's why.
>>
>>46816238

No ranged weapon? Seriously? That's practically an auto-win for character types who have a ranged weapon and some means of staying out of melee. (flight, faster movement, concealment, battlefield control, what have you...)
>>
>>46808509
no, my guy just isn't gear for combat the way drizzt is, and drizzt happens to be pretty dang perceptive, so my guy can really use stealth to get around it

however, my guy is even more perceptive than drizzt, and is more acrobatic/athletic/faster, so drizzt couldn't really kill him either
they're roughly equal with bows

my guy is a fantasycraft scout for the most part
if drizzt is combat 3, skills 2, my guy is combat 2, skills 3

>>46809702
high-level warblade can beat drizzt; he's combat focused, but not *that* combat-focused
that said, warblades don't really exist in Salvatore's universe
If Drizzt and Fflar got in a fight, I'd bet on Fflar, even though his sword is specced for fighting evil demons (Fflar seems like a warblade to me)

>>46809861
peeps just hatin'

>>46811359
pretty good, but not superb
he has drow spell-resistance, bonus to saves vs. magic, and extra bonus to saves vs enchantment, though

>>46816238
notoriously bad representation of drizzt right there
that's very early 3.0 statting, and they had no idea what they were doing
>>
>>46816746
>and they had no idea what they were doing
They had an idea what they were doing. It's just that RAI and RAW in 3rd were literally two different games.
>>
>>46816911
that's not it, they just didn't know their own system
they copy/pasted his stats straight from 2e to 3e, and had no idea that doesnt work
>>
>>46817014
It's the thing though. They thought the new system would more or less work like 2E, because all they did in the playtest was play 2E with the new numbers.
>>
>>46808509
In melee combat? Depends on how Drizzt's weapon damage translates to 40KRPG, but I don't think so. I've got a damage reduction of about 22, and I imagine Drizzt would do somewhere around 1d10+20 damage some 20 times per round, even if he's just wielding BQ (enchanted) Swords.

Gunning his ass down from kilometres away? Yeah, probably. He's gotta fail that dodge roll eventually.
>>
>>46808509
I will write my character into a harmless erotic novel for middle aged housewives and outsell everything Salvatore has ever written in about a year. Economic victory!
>>
>>46817133
well, okay, they "had an idea", but it was the wrong idea

regardless, it's a bad representation of him, stat-wise

he needs better modifiers in stealth/perception/rangery skills + balance/tumble, dex to attack rolls, evasion/improved uncanny dodge, lower fort saves/very high reflex/higher will, higher situational AC (like from dervish or tempest), reworking of his items, and one of the variant barbarian rages (though at the beginning of 3.0, that was all there was)
oh, and he wasn't an actual ranger, except for maybe 3 levels

at least they got the max bab right
>>
aw, what? you niggas can't handle a drizzt thread?
>>
>>46808509
Drizzt has yet to be given 5E stats, so I don't know. But based on how I would personally built Drizzt (15th level Ranger with the Hunter archetype), then no, my 8th level Rogue (thief) could not defeat him.

>>46809085
The thing is that Drizzt doesn't actually have a lot going for him. His total magic items are:
- Twinkle the scimitar
- Icingdeath the scimitar
- Mithril chain shirt
- Anklets of speed
- Gwenwhyvar

Given that Drizzt is supposed to be a pretty high-level character, that's not all that much.
>>
>>46822332
he has a silk shirt that gives him a sort of damage reduction, and in the past decade, he started using a magic bow and quiver, and also has another figurine (a unicorn)
>>
>>46814086

Is R.A. Salvatore the DM, and if so, is WotC watching him?

Because if not, Salvatore would probably murder him outright.
>>
>>46822453
Well, this is news to me (the last Drizzt book I read was Sea of Swords), but it still sounds like a fairly reasonable set of equipment for a high-level character, which Drizzt is supposed to be.
>>
>>46822628
that quad of books was pretty bad, you should check out the hunter's blades trilogy (probably my favorite)
>>
>>46822332
I think the Hunter archetype was built around Drizzt essentially. He even refers to himself as "The Hunter" when he goes into survival/rampage mode.
>>
>>46808509
>5e
My SorcLock could not, as his usual method of imbibing copious amounts of narcotics and alcohol until one "combatant" dies is off the table against his poison immunity, and he's not of a high enough level to have the real nasty kill spells.
Cleric wouldn't even be picking a fight with him, would instead invite him back to the orphanage, to meet his Half-Drow daughter and Drow babymomma, and compare notes on fatherhood.
>Anima
Warlock is doubtful, generally a chill dude who would rather chat with Drizzt about him, his race, where he comes from, etc. If it actually came down to combat, it'd come down to whether he gets one of his "Fuck you" spells off before being engaged. If yes, then probably GG. If no, he'll be skewered.(But not killed, he's survived worse).
The tao is the scary one. Blind as a bat, but perceptive as D's old master. He's grappled the Shai Hulud(may his passing cleanse the world) into submission, and can hit crazy hard if he decides that he does want trable. But he usually doesn't. That being said, his cousin tends to get them both in DEEP shit on a regular basis, including asking a Sister of Selene if she could teach him their personal, WOMEN ONLY, martial art. The one they kill people over.

So all in all, half could, half wouldn't want to, one would maybe.

Got bored, statted out Drizzt as of Sea of Swords for 5th Edition. He was built on a 30-point buy for his abilities. He used two ASIs, one to increase his Dexterity to 20 and one to increase his Constitution to 16; the third ASI was used to get the Dual Wielder feat.

R.A. actually hates writing Drizzt now, IIRC. Contracts with WotC won't let him retire the character because of how "Iconic" he is.

Remember that Drizzt was originally a last minute side character for the original Protagonist of his FR novels, Wulfgar. Wizards reps liked the side character as a concept better during the pitch, though.

He's a jarringly different character in The Icewind Dale Trilogy compared to how he's portrayed in his own books. He was really eager to murder giants. Sure they were evil giants, but you get the impression he was more into the stabbing than the justice.

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, but they're both bad and *really* out of date as they were released as soon as 3.0 came out, or close enough, and as such don't take advantage of anything that 3.5 had to offer which Drizzt would have been built with instead, nor take advantage of years of experience with the system to build a better character.

His official 3.0 stats were posted upthread here, >>46816238. I don't know where his 4E stats are (if any), and he doesn't have any official ones for 5E yet (but I made some myself here, >>46823706)
