Have you ever talked your way out of a would-be fatal encounter?
>>
why yes, yes I have.

Flattery will get you everywhere.

Especially when dragons are involved.

It's possible that one or both of us might have died, but it's impossible to be sure, since we avoided the encounter.
We were a party of two, and it was my character's watch. The other party member was asleep.
During my watch I saw a troll begin to rise from the water.
Neither me nor my one fellow party member were capable of acid or fire damage at the time, so we would have had no way to cancel it's regeneration if we had fought it.
My character being so not okay with this shit, raised her finger to point at the troll, telling it, in a dismissive tone, "No."
My DM was so impressed by this unexpected reaction to the troll that he allowed me to make an intimidation roll, which I succeeded. The troll fled back into the water and didn't bother us anymore.

Talked way out of death and into romance. Unintentionally.
>>
>>46793620
I'm still dodging student loans, so yeah.
>>
>>46793727
In the troll's shoes, I'd probably also have to slink away because there simply isn't a good response to that.
And, it's not like I'd have to worry about my pride or anything, because no one would believe the story.

We were ambushed in the swamps by a young black dragon, who demanded 1000 copper coins or our life. We asked why copper coins, learned it was for wooing this lightning breathing chick dragon, and i rolled 20 on knowing about copper deposits in the area. I was able to detail to him every major copper deposit in the continent, and he gave me a "token of dragonfriend" before flying off. It's apparently redeemable for one favor from any dragon.

I think you got duped.

In my group I'm always the person to make friends with NPCs while some of the other people in the group are quick to suspect NPCs of bad shit and are kinda trigger-happy.

>Meet wizard in a dungeon crawl
>totally evil alignment, has skeletons in his pocket dimension and is cranky as all fuck
>One party member realizes he's evil, storms out
>continue talking to old wizard, hear about his wife, make him an origami flower, he seems touched
>almost turn him Neutral instead of Evil through the power of friendship
>But someone fucked up and tricked the hell out of him for a silly little joke
>brought down his faith in humanity again, he gets pissed, all my hard work ruined
>DM said later if we had all stormed off the wizard would have just attacked and eaten us
>>
>>46794052
No, it's legit. I have one of those tokens too.

It say "Dev Hourthisid Yut", which is draconic for "This man is your friend, treat him well."
>>
>>46794052
Well, even if I did, all I wanted was to not die. So...mission accomplished!
>>
>>46793620
Ripip Apophis. Your lewds will be missed.

I miss afterlife quest so much

We tricked two groups of monsters in an adventure to fight eachother and we slipped past.

Awesomely out DM counts conflicts avoided as conflicts won so we got a ton of experiance at the end of the session. Just no loot for that bit obviously.

I got raped by a dragon, rather than killed by it.
Fuck my party, am I right? Bunch of psychotic murderhobos.
But no, never impress an evil dragon. Hell, never impress a dragon.

Sucked? Yes.

IRL, of course

>Traveling through time
>Nazi Germany
>Hitler's personal collection has a device I need
>Sneak into his room while he sleeps
>Accidentally bump a cabinet
>Hitler's awake and he's pissed
>Convince him I'm actually a psychic
>Tell him I've seen his future and needed to come meet the glorious golden god of the thousand year Reich
>Sleight of hand the device
>Pull of knowledge rolls to remember all those WW2 documentaries
>Tell him all about how he'll personally stroll into London and New York to crowds cheering his reign of peace and prosperity over all of Europe
>He gives me his signed well-wishes and asks for SS to personally escort me home
>Give him some advice before I leave
>"My fuhrer, I feel you should know now...Russia is weak and the Bolsheviks will soon crumble and fall. You will be able to roll your mighty army through the countryside uncontested"
>Leave and go back to the group
>Party chronomancer reads a slight fluctuation in our timeline
>Get back and follow the trail through time
>The invasion of Russia failed harder and faster
>Hitler's death was documented by both sides before the corpse was desecrated
>Documentaries and TV shows about Hitler escaping no longer exist
>I used their knowledge to trick Hitler
>Create a small paradox
>Now have to remember I can never mention the theory in casual conversation

I wouldn't say talked more that I made a compromise. Playing a human bard, party was tasked to find a lich that was in league with the bbeg. When we got to the lair we discovered the lich was a female, being a bard with macabre appeals I compromised into offering myself to the lich as an experiment in exchange for an alliance or at least a promise to not help. That is how I became a wight
>>
I once had a thief fail to sneak up on and pickpocket a Marilith. he tried to talk his way out of getting killed. he managed to negotiate his imprisonment and torture down to three eternities.
>>
I don't believe it was the only reason, but my character was able to plead and beg for his life from a mindflayer. Play continued with him as a slave basically, but he did survive where others had died.
>>
You know that moment when the DM realizes he's accidentally written you into a corner where you are all going to die, and he basically pleads with you to figure some way out of it?

My DM does that all the time.

Cons of being a female bard: Can't do this. Kinda sad I can't perpetuate the innate bardic talent.
>>46793620
I scared off a dragon because all my stuff was dragon-scale stuff. Nat 20 intimidate +18 Bluff and it ran away because it thought I was a famous dragon hunter. I wasn't yet, but I did become one later.
>>
>>46798671
>Can't do this.

Maybe not with the higher ups, though I'd make a case you could if you do it right, but you definitely can with minions while a male bard can't. A guy is going to have a lot harder time trying to seduce or talk his way out of being caught by female guards, than a girl is going to.

The best a bard guy can do is use his skills and try to be forward. A girl bard can do that too, but also can do the reverse and play helpless, or incompetent/weak, and there's a good chance she'll be taken pity on or even overlooked for being a woman. You can totally just fall down crying at their feet when you fail as a woman, try that as a guy.
>>
>>46798671
I did fuck the female lich if that is what you were implying. I just ended up trading away my natural lifeforce away to keep a lich from supporting the bbeg. Not exactly a good turnout although I did get better saving throws

I was a wizard based primarily around manipulating spirits. See local spirits, summon them, phase into spirit realm, that sort of thing. Early in game, primarily through some very bad rolls from my companions, we ended up in a confrontation with an angry dragon spirit. Since another PC and an NPC had been having a duel of honor with melee weapons (despite it being a modern setting) I was just hanging out in back trying to look wizardly.

Dragon finally decided it was about time to finally bring judgment on us and I step in with the traditional high level mentor line of "that's enough out of everyone" and threatened dragon with some kind of unspecified expulsion to spirit realm. Successfully managed to bullshit it even though I had no spell that could probably even slow it down. After a while it started going on about things like reincarnation and destiny and so on and I just started agreeing with it and making vague pronouncements while trying to act casual.

Didn't even realize we had an incident, since GM didn't really explain it should be inordinately dangerous. I just figured it took draconic form to look cool and would be easily intimidated by a wizard who specialized with spirits.

Rogue decided to break into an estate. Got caught, we ran in to save him, master of the house had 20 armed guards.

>told my party to watch this. Prepared to be the cleric diplomat of skill dumping.
>Ahem...uh, that's my patient, he is mentally ill and thinks he is a master thief or something. He got away from me and I am sorry.

>Duke or Baron or whatever: nah TRASPASSERS die. Guards attack.

>proceed to murder every guard quite easily...too easily.

>GM labled us criminals we got executed.

>>46793620
We were playing Ravenloft and ran into Strahd in the second session because the DM rolled on the random encounter table and got him. Amazingly, we had a (mostly) pleasant conversation with him and he went on his merry way.
>>
>>46793620

Through smart playing while everyone else dicked around, I managed to turn some situations where we'd otherwise be fired or demoted or placed on leave into promotions.
>>
>>46793620

Is that pic from something?

It's Cestree from a comic about /tg/.
Her final form, that is.
>>
>>46803693
I wish the artist would just straight up do a comic series about Cestree. /tg/ memes are fun and all, but I want to see more of her.

well sounds like you have a poor dm mate.
