I have a problem /tg.
My group and I are gonna try out the fifth edition of D&D, to which I made a setting which is very much inspired by iron-age ireland, with a very classic game plot of "get the macguffins".
Lorewise, a great bard gathered the party by an ancient standing stone with three holes. He recruits the party to gather the three thingies that goes into the stone, claiing that this will break the hold the hags have over their peoples destiny and stop everything from going to shit.
well he is lying, he is the hag-king.
But what is the TRUE purpose of the three macguffins and the standing stone?

well what kind of stuff do you want it to be ?
are you lacking ideas or creativity ?

It makes everyone in the world have a smaller dick.

I am lacking both.
Well it should be something that gives the hags ultimate power over the land and make it go from bad to maximum overshit.
At the same time, the PC's still need the chance to rally the people and be big goddamn heroes.

make it around the PC then
use their precise specifics to design the final part where eveything seems lost and ONLY THEM can save the day
Go the zelda route and timeskip!
Have it be some irish shit! Like... it summons a castle from the sky! full of giants!

NOW I know the historical inspiration for orc clothing in most fantasy settings.

The Moonstones protect the wielder from being harmed by those born during their respective lunar phase, the heroes can retrieve them because all of them were born during an eclipse.
