Have you guys ever seen an OC that was not only well made, but actually seemed like something out of the source material?
>>
Fanfiction isn't a tabletop game.
>>
>>46778274
But are tabletop games fanfiction?
>>
Only this guy comes to mind.

>>
>>46778290
Some autist will tell you that every battle/campaign you play "is not canon" or something, completely missing the point.
>>
>>46778175
The Laurent's Naruto quest has a lot of good OC's. Honestly better than a lot of the original characters.
>>
To be completely honest, an OC is not a interesting character if they have heterochromia.
>>
>>46778473
>an OC is not a interesting character if they have heterochromia
I would argue against this idea that an aesthetic trait can be inherently bad.
Heterochromia is actually a great example, too.
Let's say I've got a character whose eyes are two different colors. Not two completely different colors, but two shades of the same overall color. Slightly different blues, or greens, or browns. Nobody notices it, initially. I don't bring it up in narration. It's not important. But at some point, another character gets close enough, and pays enough attention, to spot it. Then it's revealed that the mismatched eye? It's a prosthetic. They didn't quite get the color matching just right. After that's explained, it goes back to not being mentioned or important. In this way, it makes a neat bit of detail, hinting at the character's life before the story, without being obnoxious.
It's not an inherently good feature, but then there's no such thing as an inherently good character trait or visual feature.
The problem is that it's overused by bad fanfic writers as a way to make their "original character donut steel" seem "different" or "weird", without making them no longer conventionally attractive. So we're often oversensitive to it in criticism of characters brought to the table.
>>
>>46778290
But are fantop fiction tablegames?
>>
>>46778473

No one uses heterochromia anymore. It's vitiligo for your special snowflakes now
>>
>>46778175
yes.
Pretty commonly, in fact, given the sheer amount of games I've seen played in a show's setting without the show's titular characters.

There are just SO MANY shows with interesting settings that do not execute properly, it would be an absolute crime if someone, somewhere didn't use them for games.
>>
>>46779149
Of course
>>
Anybody have that one picture? About how to make a tumblr OC?

Anyway, yes, I've had some OCs that fit their setting, it's not hard when you actually read and learn the setting.
Now this is tabletop related, but I have a player who, given the opportunity, will shoehorn the same character into literally every setting. He's a ninja (like a classic pajamas and smoke bombs ninja, not a Naruto), and he's not bad, just out of place in most settings (Eberron and a homebrew space opera setting most notably). Player played him in Numenera, and it was actually quite neat, it was less of a ninja and more of an eccentric assassin. Nothing is out of place in that setting, and he bothered to read it so good backstory fit and he had contacts and the like in other cities.

It just takes people who aren't shitty
>>
Does this count?
>>
>>46778175
Ever lurked the Magic snowflake threads?
>>
>>46779618
Oh puddin, you know just how to get to my heart.

Harley best fucking OC ever made to the point that after the animated series ended her legacy persists 20 years later.
>>
>>46778416
End of an Era is godly. You have excellent taste.
>>
>>46779163
>vitiligo
I have literally never seen an OC with that, and I have read a metric fuckton of fanfiction.
>>
Is there a good Naruto System that really goes into the bloodlines and lets you be creative with your jutsus?

>>
>>46780146
Use a narrative system. I did a campaign with Marvel Heroic Roleplaying.
>>
>>46780171
Depends on if it is just super pale skin or actual "I burn if the sun touches me, fuck my eyes are shitty". Hell, you could even have the first one not be a mary sue if the character isn't super special snowflake #7.

So Pete White?
>>
>>46780172
Give me one that has it, I am actually curious. I mostly read stuff in the Naruto fandom these days and I haven't seen any.
>>
>>46779093
Heterochromia can also be the result of a severe blow to the head, so you can (and I have) use it to imply the character is suffering some kind of brain damage.
>>
>>46780337
Steven Universe usually has fanfictions that make Jasper have vitiligo if the gems were human.
>>
>>46780613
Steven Universe is cancer incarnate so it doesn't count.
>>
>>46780613
I have never watched Steven Universe, so I never got into its fandom. Had a friend tell me it was good, but the same guy thought Other M was great because it expanded Samus's backstory.

Now Undertale, that's an OK thing with cancer incarnate for a fanbase.

>>
>>46778290
Only if they're based on an official setting.
>>
>>46780146
No and there can't be because the setting's magic system is based on PLOT. Use a generic narrative system and you can do it well though.
>>

You had ONE job.
>>

There are systems with stats for plot.

So Katawa Shoujo will get a surge in popularity?
>>
>>46780657
Steven Universe is a good kid's show. I think the songs are good,Steven's a likable kid and I enjoy the lore to the show.

I can see why people don't like it since Steven's naivete and quirks can get annoying, the gems being space lesbians, the plot/deep lore is in the background and the fanbase can be cancerous.

I'm of the firm belief that we are the universe where Sasuke wasn't murdered by Haku on that bridge, thus never prompting actual character growth in Naruto and dragging the whole thing to shit.
>>
>>46781178
I appreciate that it's a cartoon with worldbuilding and character growth.
You don't get that too often anymore.

My DM puts in DMPCs but he actively makes sure they aren't wish fulfillment.

Half the time they're incompetent or represent one of the seven deadly sins(or both).

Other half, they act as second fiddle.
>>
>>46780876
What I cant stand about this shit is that all of these characters (except Frisk) already have predefined identities. The person who mads this did it only because they get off on trying to decide between gender being a societal construct or something you're born "feeling" despite your chromosomes.

Would having a second head count as a Mary Sue trait?
>>
>>46781924
Jesus no. Mary Sues are perfect and don't have flaws, two heads is fucking freaky and definitely a flaw.
>>
>>46780858
Well if we take Fan by its base word 'Fanatic' then this becomes apparent.

>>46781184
Well holding onto Undertale after the fact is entirely missing the point. Either A) You get the true ending and leave Frisk as Frisk without resetting everything like a dick or B) you wipe out everything for fucks sake. Both are definitive endings, and are meant to be left as they are. Unfortunately the fanbase forgets this.
>>
>>46780876
What the fuck do these terms even mean. Aroflux sounds like a setting on photoshop
>>
>>46782202
>Aroflux is a romantic orientation on the aromantic spectrum and is defined as: someone who's romantic orientation fluctuates, but always stays on the aro spectrum (ex. one day you're demiro, the next day lithro, the next day aro, etc)

Well, I'm not researching this question any further.

>>
>>46778175
It's funny that you post technicolor Sakura because the best example I've seen was actually a Naruto OC. It was in a fanfic where Sasuke died for real while fighting Haku and his replacement on Team 7 was a guy named Keiji whose special shtick was just being a crack shot with shuriken.
>>
>>46782976
Link?
Despite its many pacing issues, I do love Dreaming of Sunshine and its OC/SI Shikako.
>>
>>46778175
It's not hard to write character that would fit well into Fallout's universe, a lot of mods have for 3 and New Vegas have characters that you can only tell are OCs because the voice acting wasn't done on a studio quality mic, or the writing is actually better than the game writer's could pull off.
