Maybe my Elegen/tg/entlemen can help me out here.

I am looking for a LARGE, sepia-toned fantasy map. When i say large, I mean MASSIVE. It had like 3-4 continents, all with odd, foreign sounding names for locations. It was heavily wooded on the northern end IIRC, it sounded almost German in it's naming conventions.

I know it's not a lot to go on, but I've been looking for this for years and haven't been able to re-find it.

If someone could help, I'd be super duper appreciative.

Regardless, lets dump some stuff, Fantasy Map thread!

I think I've seen a picture like that a few times on /tg/. Have you looked through any map threads on the /tg/ archives?

Sounds like a mouth wash
Cool map though

You right. Everyone says that. But I wanted to make something that sounded like something someone from the turn of the century would make, and I personally feel like I succeeded in that. Probably didn't, realistically, but in my own mind you know? Besides, what's fantasy without some weird names.

Another map I made, probably just gonna be a stereotypical fantasy setting but I haven't put much thought into it yet. This one is much more attractive, I think. Ignore that number at the bottom.

This is a map of a city in Oxidentis called Entrelac, because it is in between two lakes. It is a canal city, which is a concept for which I have always had a massive boner. Each gray block represents several buildings with small streets and alleys and such; the obvious road areas are main roads.

This is a map of a town outside Entrelac by the name of Saint-Maurice. Same rules apply. By the way, yellow areas are public square areas, and green areas are parks.

How do I get started on map making, anon?
>>
>>46782190
Well, that's tough. You should familiarize yourself with geography first and foremost, although unless you're playing with autists, you can bend the rules a bit. I like to draw landmasses first, then mountains and then rivers. Those will decide where populations and cities will lie on the landmass. Cities will often be along rivers and on the coast, because of ease of access to trade causing people to congregate in certain areas.

When it comes to the shape of the landmasses, I just like to freehand a somewhat amorphous blob shape at first, then make edits as I go. To find interesting/realistic shapes and coastlines, I often draw inspiration from the fractal-like coasts of remote islands and fjords and such.

Once you've got all that, think of the climate, the culture, and the people living in each area, and their interactions. From there you can draw out all kinds of interesting things. It may sound like I'm talking in broad strokes here, and I am, but you really just have to do it to know how it goes, you know?

Well, thanks for that much at least. It's a good enough starting point.

Go to a random generator and hit "Make me a world map".

Because seriously, they're all the same and no one cares that you spent 100 hours pretending to get the mountains right.

What's with the buildings that seem to create a ring and enclose around a field of grass?
>>
>>46786819
Probably a military structure. The middle could be training grounds or something.
>>

This has to be literally the stupidest place to set up a castle. You would be stranded and surrounded if people attacked.
