So, um, I'd like to make a CYOA but I've never done one before. I have just a couple of questions, if that is alright.
My first idea was to make it based off of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. You'd get to pick one of several original donut steel Stands. I've got a really good idea for a mystery box.
So, what I want to know is the following.
(1) Is it wrong to make a CYOA based off of a specific franchise? I know lots of CYOAs reference stuff but I can't think of any that take such a specific idea.
(2) If I do go ahead with the "Pick a Stand" idea, what sort of images should I use to represent the Stands? I wouldn't want to use pre-established Stands to stand in for the ones I'm making up as that would be weird. Right? I was thinking of two pictures per stand, one showing what it looks like or at least resembles and another that shows what it can do.
(3) Would it better to use canon Stands instead of made up ones?
I'd appreciate any feedback. I'd like to make something neat. I have a few ideas I think are good but we'll see.

Like others have mentioned, the main problem with taking a pre-existing franchise and turning it into a CYOA is that obviously not everyone is going to know the details that you know. (See: the TWEWY CYOA from last thread) Burden of knowledge is very real, but at the same time those that are familiar with the source material could find issue with the way you present it. Do you make it very lightly based on the setting and just tell people a little about their cool powers and the cool world? Do you go really heavy into explaining it so you don't feel like you have to exclude something for being tied into the story too much? Or do you try to find a balance that people can easily understand without being too wordy and making them just drop it?
Personally, I think the best thing to do is try to remove it from "canon" as much as possible while maintaining the soul of the work, which obviously isn't easy. But it's your CYOA, and if it's a simple "Pick 1 Thing" then none of this really matters and is mostly just insight in case you make a larger CYOA.

It might be just me but the size condenser seems to be a poor item. It trivializes a lot of the challenge with different Colossals, particularly Noirma. She'd jump at the chance of being able to shrink down if jumping wouldn't potentially cause a continent shaking earthquake.
Also Spokesperson seems quite poor compared to Bonus Credits. I know you get fame and an increased salary but maybe a few freebies could be tossed in as well. Such as the Database, Visa, and Drones. All which would be helpful in recording a show about Metra and Colossals.
