Anyone know how medieval armies were organized in terms of unit names and size?

Like, for example, were they organized into companies of 100 troops who were in turn organized into regiments of 1,000?

Mongols not that far off

The term "medieval" covers everything from dirty peasants, vikings, chainmail and shieldwalls, knights in shining armour and cannon.

On top of stretching for hundreds of years, a lot of countries and regions did things differently.

There is no way to give you a proper answer unless you elaborate on your question a bit and make it more specific.

Right now it's like saying "what size is a dog?" They range from the size of a cat to larger than a person, we need to know what breed you're curious about.

It depends where you were, but military organization in medieval Europe was very patchwork.

Remember that even within individual kingdoms, standard measurements didn't come about until the 18th century. If people couldn't agree on what an inch was, how would they come to agree on how to organize troops?

So you might find your Welsh archers coming in grounds of 120 men, whereas the Cornish come in in groups of 80, and your own English boys come in in perfectly logical platoons of 46. Now you can't just demand that those subhumans reorganize themselves--they're not yours. That 80 belongs to the Baron of Aberdare, that 120 belongs to Talbot. These men are showing up to fight for you, but they're not there to redesign warfare for you. They're certainly not all wearing uniforms, why ought they to be in uniform units? Who decides what is uniform? There's no military academy, there's no centralization of anything. You just learn to deal with it, because the mania of creating uniformity out of diversity didn't come along until the 20th century. Many don't know this--even Napoleanic units were actually wildly varied between each other, becuase in many countries each regiment was privately owned by its commander, who purchased their uniforms out of his own pocket--from his own tailor.

So basically, do whatever.

The force size names were: "Lots", "not enough", "more than then", "and less than then"

Doubt it. Even after a new ruler took over they never made the attempt again.

I'm pretty sure that most units were named based on where/who raised the unit, and I'm guessing that they used numeric values too, since that's the easiest and best way to keep track of what you have and where it is.
