What are some things that can make the end of a campaign feel joyless, besides "after all that shit you don't get paid" and "rocks fall, everyone dies?"
>>
>>46704864
Losing to the BBEG after going through all that just to beat it.
>>
>>46704904
I'd say that's more of a fail state than a completed campaign, but I get where you're coming from.
>>
>>46704864
One player that throws a bitchfit that ends in a PvP TPK between characters that are supposed to be friends.
>>
>>46704864
Losing more than you achieved.
That may be something as simple as sacrificing something precious to achieve your goal, or something as difficult as making a choice in "everyone loses" dilemma.
>>
When the dm goes into where your characters all went now that its all over and everyone but you got a happy ending except you because you wrote in a flaw for the character to deal with and now he's dead from a broken liver, even though he fixed himself up around midgame and had sworn off booze entirely and been successful, and everyone else is anywhere from a successful business owner to powerfucking gods in valhalla.

"So...how come i'm a dead tramp in a random gutter while everyone else is skipping in a meadow dm?"
"You wrote down alcoholism as a flaw on your character sheet."
"We had a whole big fucking deal about that 10 damn sessions ago, fucking tim even cried, where i fixed my guy up. Successfully."
"You can't CURE alcoholism!"
Fucking Tim:"not everyone fails like your dad did."
And now no ones invited to the next game
>>
>>46704864
God that doujin was so hot.
>>
>>46705164
I like Tim already.
>>
>>46705164
There is a popular point of view that says you can't cure alcoholism. You're always an alcoholic, even if you haven't had a drink in 20 years.

Of course, the ones who haven't had a drink in 20 years are less likely to end up dead in gutters. Here's an interesting blog post on why alcoholics tend to die choking on their own blood.

>>
>>46705199
You can't just say something like that and not give the sauce, anon.
>>
>>46705458
Dozo.

>>
>>46705467
Do you have one that i can actually get into or perhaps the name or artist so i can do it myself?
>>
characters actions lead to the death of an NPC they liked and there's nothing they can do about it
BBEG turns out to be not so evil
losing/having to run
>>
>>46705304
>There is a popular point of view that says you can't cure alcoholism. You're always an alcoholic, even if you haven't had a drink in 20 years.

That's a fucking retarded point of view, though.

>You can't cure X behavior because you could, like, start again, maybe, maaaaaaaaaaaannnnn.

That view point literally exists because of daddy issues, as that anon's post correctly noted.
>>
>>46705516
I think he's talking about the fact that the damage you do to your body is pretty much for good, so you can't really cure it.
>>
>>46705528
depends entirely on how long you've been drinking.

Oh, in that case I rescind my post. However, I've always heard the "always an alcoholic" shit touted by AA faggots and other codependent failures.
>>
>>46705528
Unless you have access to a healing potion, or someone knows how to cast cure.
>>
>>46705551
I mean, it's semi true, because it plays into deeper problems they have.

Most people with addiction problems either have addictive personalities or often use whatever it is as a coping mechanism for something.

It's why they get addicted in the first place, and why it's so difficult to quit. And it's why it can be so easy to fall back into old habits.

The AA concept of "Always an Alcoholic" is in fact a defense against this idea. The idea is to keep the concept of addiction in their members minds constantly, so they're always aware of the danger, so to speak.

Otherwise, you'll have guys get clean, and decide they can go on a binge afterwards with no ill effects.

Same reason so many of them insist on cold turkey. It wouldn't really hurt them physically to drink in moderation, it's the problem of falling off the slippery slope.

Get to about 75% through a campaign, then pull something out of your arse to wrap it up in three sessions in a really shitty way. The more uninspired garbage the better. Have the main villain die offscreen to some bullshit and pull another villain out of your arse that's only tangentaly related to the first.
Then run the first two sessions of your master three-session plan and give up on the third, having the next DM in line run their game while you wrap yours up in a handful of percentile rolls and a brief description of what happens.
I ain't even mad, just disappointed.
>>
>>46705545
Thank you.
I've tried every fucking thing right down to using a completely different computer and i can't figure it out. I'm not the only one having this issue of late either.
>>
>>46704864
Have the world end up just ss shitty as before. The party wins, and gets whatever shit they were trying for, but the evil church has had one leader killed, there are at least a dozen more, and you are old now.

>>46706383
There's an add-on that literally makes it dead simple called Exhentai Easy.
>>
>>46704864
Really, Keith? Seriously. I know you're a sociopath, but the finale doesn't count if you make it unenjoyable.
>>
>>46707297
Already tried it. Twice. First time chrome and firefox gave me this bullshit about it being incompatible and second time on the other computer the shit just kicked me to sad panda. Yes i cleared my cookies but kept the damn forum where i have 50 damn post.
I actually had one day of it working on my phone somehow then the bitch updated and now im back to sadpanda.
>>
Having a player die on you during or before the last session would probably put a downer on the campaign.

I had a good end to my campaign, so wouldn't know, though.
>>
>>46706118
>*knockknock*
>Who are you guys supposed to be, now?
>We're the legendary heroes, here to end the threat of the evil wizard?
>Who? Oh, that guy? Yeah, well he died two weeks ago. Pneumonia.
>>
>>46707344
...Jesus. Ok free tech support time. OS? Is your browser updated? Which browser are you primarily using? What is the exact error code after you install the add-on?
My job is helping people get access to the nastiest porn.
>>
>>46707403
>My job is helping people get access to the nastiest porn.
Jeez, dude. You have my condolences. That has to be rough.
>>
>>46707428
Every tech support job us getting people back to watching porn, usually by repairing mistakes made while watching porn. Maybe I'm just jaded after a few years though.
>>
>>46707403
One(the one that worked) is windows xp the lastest update.
Two (the one that kept saying addon not compatible or out of date and can't use)
Is windows 10.
The phone that worked for half a damn day is an iphone 5 update before the latest was what worked now it doesn't.
I use chrome and firefox as those are the ones i can find the damn addon for and they're both updated as well.
The only thing that worked for #2 was the whole cookie edit thing with the username and password while keeping only the forum cookie but deleting the rest and it never worked again.
>>
>>46707473
Force update your firefox (check under "about firefox", otherwise redownload the newest version). Then disable all other add-ons and reinstall the extension. Or, for without the add-on, clear your cache entirely and retry. Chrome tends to be harder, so ignore it.
>>
>>46707576
I won't be home for another few hours. If the threads still up i'll tell you how it goes.
>>
>>46707344
try replacing the "ex" in the link with "g.e-"(Minus the quotes, of course).
You'll get MOST of exhentai's stuff, but not all of it.
>>
>>46704864
We've had "It was all a dream." and "Gratz heroes. Your unwitting actions killed everyone."

We really need to stop allowing him to GM.
>>
>>46704864
DM ending it barely a quarter of the way through because bored/wants to run a different campaign/system/module.
>>
>>46704864
A technicality perhaps, but: spending a long time with the whole group developing character concepts, putting it all together, learning a new system, and then never getting to play because you weren't available the week the GM wanted to start playing, and the GM cancelled the campaign after every other character got themselves killed in the first session.
Or worse yet, after a long, grueling campaign, taking a break only to return to the GM having lost all his notes.
>>
>>46705164
I think i'd like playing with Tim

Save the world.

There's no great reward for the PCs

There's no great cost for the PCs.
>>
>>46707731

One of my players takes an online notesheet for this reason. Always good to have a backup.
>>
>>46704864
Well, I had one campaign end with the final boss battle off screen. Most of the party had the 'hold them off' job, which was interesting until I tried to buff the one person going to go fight:
>Oh, we already did that combat, don't bother using any spells.
>>
>>46707749

I know right, Tim for the win.
>>
>>46704864

One word.

NTR
>>
>>46710848

But that's the Apocalypse dragon's only weakness!
>>
>>46710866
>stealing the dragon's waifu
>it commits suicide out of despair
>PCs feel dirty about it afterwards
>>
>>46705551
Assholes Anonymous in my town is really just a super secret club for lawyers, judges, and doctors to hang out.
Good luck winning a court case if you aren't in with them.
>>
>>46706118
That's why we have an ex-DM.
Five goddamn campaigns in a row.
>>
>>46707382
>"That's bullshit! C'mon guys, let's go find a necromancer to summon his ghost. He's got unfinished business here."
>mfw evil wizards ghost is even harder to defeat than regular evil wizard
>mfw no face, wizard ghost esploded it away
>mfw party rezes and tries to find a cure for pneumonia, thinking if they can defeat what defeated the wizard, they will still win in some way
>party fails

And that's how you layer the disappointment, like a stack cake made with PC tears... mmm...
>>
>>46710930
>Kidnap the dragon's princess
>rape and force her to give birth to your children
>raise them as your own, train them to fight and slay dragons
>send them out into the world after a tearful goodbye
>one day the apocalypse dragon raises its head at the sound of distant hoofbeats
>sniffs the air
>The familiar scent of its princess wafts through its nose
>it rushes out ot meet them, leaving its apocalyptic plans half finished
>"I knew you'd come back to me! my dearest! My dar-"
>it's greeting is interrupted by the +4 dragonslaying sword peircing its vulnerable spot and mortally wounding it.
>the world is saved
>the NTR Dragonslayer barely notices.
>"just another weakass dragon"

An ending where some NPC or DMPC actually does the real worldsaving stuff and you were only there for superficial reasons.

>the GM makes you roll for your ending
