Nah they saved it by making the base game called interstellar army simulator and taking out all the images and changing the names by like 2 letters and there's a "Mod" that puts it all back in

Okay, here's what happened.

The C&D hit, took the micky entirely out of Duke, who then went and said 'fuck it' and posted the full thing open source. Images and all. Two programmers at Bay12 took over the development, first cleaning up his code massively, and then beginning to advance the progress of the game.

Looks like the despagetti'd his code?

Got a download or original link OP?
>>
>>46650250
This is the rebuild version rather than the cleaning one, got a sneak peak of the 0.3 alpha from the dev.

Links are on 1d4chan to the dev blog not much to do yet but im hype

I am not sure, apparently some guy is writing the game using Godot, which means it actually has a good chance of working.

What is Godot?
>>
>>46653406
It's a game engine which has some very interesting hierarchical structure to abolish some of the code design neccessary to build games. Specifically, it uses what is known as "nodes" to accomplish a lot of stuff that would otherwise be a pain in the ass.
>>
>>46653443

Just asked the new programmer guy if he needed some help with music and sound.

What kind of music would you want in your game?
I am mostly limited to synths an guitar, so no orchestral shit I am afraid.

>>

Sounds like some Space Hulk shit at the beginning.
Synths at 0:28 sound nice, but they'd probably be better either darker in tone or arranged in a more oppressive manner.

Like the opening to this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liw259IR4Ck&list=PLYStYjr1J77IAW6o1A76y7GqsTbwZ7Kjf&index=3

>>
>>46654149
I responded about 5 minutes after I got it. :)

I really like the beginning, very haunting and grimdark.
>>
>>46654184
Cool. So I guess I am looking at a full OST here, right? Including menu and button sounds and stuff.

I guess I could get to work with the main theme then, to set the tone. But if you like what you've heard, I will try to move it in that direction.
>>
>>46654166

Yeah, of course, just a suggestion.

Choirs probably wouldn't work well with the style of music anyways.
Unless they were some kind of weird synth choir. Which could be fun if you could get your hands on one.
>>
>>46654224
Honestly, as much as you are willing and happy to do is what I'll take! But yeah, I've only got the old, ripped audios to work with otherwise (which are fine), but it'd be great to have speifically created music/effects. I'm really excited!
>>
>>46654032
>>46653661

The example piece feels like a good starting point for a title screen or one of the space hulk sequences. In general there should be a heroic sense to the goings on. If that makes sense.

THQ's method was to have a very simple heroic melody that they could then surround with other instruments to make it sound more complex (listen to the space marine or force commander themes from dawn of war 1)

You could work with a basic theme for the management sections and then surround it with drums and such during the pitched battle segments, for example.

>>46654791

Absolutely.

The space marines are positioned as such that they can see humanity is just about finished. Despite this, every single one of them has given up everything they were as men in order to help save it, to even have a slim chance of being able to help save it.

Individually they are capable herculean feats, in groups they can turn the tide of the battlefield. All together they are a vitally powerful force, and aimed properly they may well be the exact surgical instrument at the exact time that staves off disaster.

Wield them well, Chapter Master.
>>
>>46655224
Ok, tragic it is.
>>
Forget about the actual game for a second. What happened to the google docs play guide we made together. I was working quite a lot on the first couple of versions and also helped cleaning up later on.

But I have to admit, I don't have it anymore. Does anyone still have it?
>>
Wait a minute, is the new one the Interstellar Army Simulator? Here >>46653180

Or Streamline's Space Soldier Management Engine on his blog?
>>
>>46655432
Both I guess?

I am unaware of another current version beyond the one that Journier and Thy Reeaper have been talking about cleaning up since October. But that isn't to say there isn't another version being worked on in the quiet.

Who knows!
>>
>>46655484
Not sure if /tg/ could handle 2 different 'interstellar army sims' being released by different people. Might tear us apart senpai.
>>
>>46655768
There's only really one in development. I don't think anyone's heard from Journier in a while.
>>
>>46655861
That, and we didn't really see anything he'd actually accomplished. It was just a few months of "cleaning code guise!"

Maybe he was, because I looked at that code myself and holy shit Duke made a Gordian knot of things--but then again we didn't see any actual progress being made once that code was allegedly being worked on.

Frankly I'm not really expecting to see anything worthwhile come from him.

>>
>>46654032
A good start, you may want to consider coming up with several core themes you can build on for various situations. One approach a favorite game of mine had was it had 'Desperate' and 'Normal' combat themes for each of the bosses so for Orks, Necrons, Eldar, Chaos, etc you could have a normal theme and a theme that plays when victory isn't certain.

another thing to consider is while a 40k should tend towards a tragic tone in aesthetics and music there's a grim certainty to things. You go down fighting. So a victory theme with a determined air to it is desirable. In general an attitude of 'keep calm and carry on' is appreciated.

Ok so the 1d4chan page with all the faction info makes this game sound very playable at the moment, but based on this thread I can't really tell. Is it much of a game at the moment or does it have quite a way to go?
>>
>>46661105
The old one was playable, rickety thing that it was. The new one hasn't really reached playable status unless you're happy just doing things like changing Marine appearance and weapons, but from what people are saying it's a properly coded game that should be able to be expanded much better than Duke was doing.
