So, I'm not sure if this thread is against the rules, but there is going to be a minecraft server for 4chan and all boards are invited to join. That, of course, includes /tg/. It's essentially a factions server in which you can make your own civilization, and anything goes. I figured /tg/ would maybe like to WAAAAAAGH there, but literally anything /tg/ related is possible. You can find us over at the Minecraft General in /vg/ if you're interested.

Perhaps the people making the claims do not realize how large 20k by 20k is, and how many members they would need in their faction to enforce such a border.

Now if this were a Citadel server, border enforcement of large regions would be easier because pearls would make raiding riskier in general, but that's a whole different topic.

By the way, is using radar that detects everything in loaded chunks permitted on this server? It's a game breaker but it's also hard for admins to beat.

the people making those claims right now say they actually want a reasonable distance between cities instead of having 4-5 of them in an area that would only be a mile or so in the real world. You know, >muh realism.

Does anyone remember a server that was supposed to be a "social experiment" with different governments and such spread across several "countries". There were rail stations connecting the whole world.

I logged on for a few days last year, and it was totally empty... shit's kind of sad--there were several huge cities with homes built by hundreds of users, but the whole world was totally empty. Maybe once in a while I'd stumble across some autist who was quietly mining iron or on the edge of town.

I'm only planning on a few cities in it, and based Chien, the mapmaker, said himself 3-4 cities could easily fit inside.

Also, /tg/ is welcome to join the Tectonic Knights. While this isn't my main board, I do come here frequently to get advice for my D&D port into minecraft.

no villagers means that saddles are a resource I'd have to compete for WAY TOO HARD. since they're only generated in dungeons, temples and by villagers I can't acquire one(or more) to be a mounted archer.

this also means that in the inevitable wars there will be NO MOUNTED CAVALRY. there won't be caravans of mule teams carrying trade goods either.

and PvP was changed pretty drastically since then. it could slip in

if they're less damaging than swords then they become anti-greifing weapons, I can hold you off with a spear maybe even your buddy if he does the melee only. it takes a melee+archer team to take a spear guy. if you make spears decrease the walking or running speed of the carrier then you've balanced it plenty. besides they make cleaning out the creeper traps easier, safer and cheaper

That might be true for vanilla maps but we've had a history of custom-made maps (World, Eurasia+Africa, MENA crop etc) and grief was minimal. If there was any, the admins or mods usually repaired it.

Essentially, you have "Power" that lets you claim chunks. That power goes towards your faction. When you die, you lose power, which means that your faction's power will deteriorate as well. If your faction has more chunks than it is able to hold with power, others can unclaim border chunks. Power restores at a certain rate, not sure which tho

Basically, yeah. The only way someone could potentially destroy it is if the defending faction loses enough power that the attackers can declaim the land and then do so. That, or TNT cannons.

You could just walk over and stab everyone. Our main base had think walls and covering and could only be opened from the inside.

We ended up fighting off a siege from some weird alliance of /mlp/, /sp/, and a splinter group of /v/ people that broke off from the main /v/ group before I joined the server.

The common tactic to breach walls was TNT cannons. TNT couldn't be placed on enemy chunks, but the explosions from TNT still damage them. So you'd launch the TNT at them and hope to blow a hole in the wall, then rush in and murderstab everyone.

Successful TNT breeches were rare and drawn out, typically. A lot of the times the raiders would crowd around the TNT and blow themselves up.

Yeah, but you'd be surprised. A proper placement right where there's a slight drop-off can do wonders. You just need to watch the paths they take. There's always a blind corner or drop.

Or just a little switch with a sign that says "In case of attack, pull for weapons" and you sign it with the name of someone in that group, and odds are good you'll get the one chucklefuck dumb enough to fall for it.

Of course, it was drastically easier in the days where TNT just dropped if you mined under it.
