Superhero art thread

and also system discussion

Looking for a superhero RPG to run a campaign in. Familiar with CHAMPIONS but thinking about something with more..."drama" mechanics for lack of a better word. Also I like dice pools. I don't like MNM, at that point I might as well just run CHAMPIONS

Marvel Heroic is all dice pools. Not sure what you mean by drama mechanics though.

Like less crunchy and more narrative based?

Things that mechanically encourage the players to roleplay and act like their characters.

Palladium Heroes Unlimited.

Simple system, narrative-focused, only "problem" is that the GM needs to put restrictions on character creation because there is a wide variety of power levels going on, so you gotta adjust for what type of stuff your supers will be doing.

See, I love heroes unlimited but because its palladium it gets a bad rap.

Palladium is a self described "mega system" which encompasses a lot. Most people who read about it learn that it has 4 skills for riding horses. (look it up) and similar issues with skills. But they don't learn that those 4 skills are in 4 different rulebooks for 4 games under the palladium umbrella.

An overwhelming number of palladium fans want to use all the books ever made, which turns things into a mess every time.

Hell even in just heroes unlimited you need to keep an eye on the hero categories just to keep the game balanced. Most GM's don't do this so it turns into a shit show.

I do still love it though.
Heroes unlimited you love me in all the most painful ways but ill always come back.
>>
>>46639978
If he knows champion why the fuck would he play anything by Palladium.

Is it somehow entirely unrelated to every other palladium product?

...I'm sorry, are you telling me not to suggest systems to a guy that opened a thread about system discussion and then asked for system suggestions? Or am I missing something?
>>
>>46640275
I just don't understand why he would drop one of the best universal systems for one of the most overwrought ones.

It's like if he said "I have this Mercedes, but I'm thinking about a plane" and then you said "Have you considered a Lada?"

That's a nice opinion you've got there friend. I, for one, find the system fantastic and I'll suggest it as long as people are looking for different systems for superheroes. Because, you know, they ask for suggestions.

If he agreed that it was the best choice, why would he ask for suggestions? Consider thinking before posting next time.
>>
The new Marvel system s pretty slick, if you like narrative systems with not much "crunch". There are mechanics for building drama, in that characters can build bonuses to their dice pools for taking disadvantageous situations and playing weaknesses.

I think it's probably right up your alley.
>>
>>46639698
I honestly don't understand how character creation works for Marvel Heroic.
>>
>>46640388
Just seems weird to suggest something that at first glance would just be a worse version of what he already knows

Maybe say how it's different from the rest of Palladium's clusterfuck?

Oh okay. Here you go:

>Condenses combat down to an intuitive and quick system.
>Cuts down repeats of skills across the board. The only repeat in that whole book is having prowl listed twice
>gets rid of all that R.C.C. Stuff and says "no no, what type of hero are you gonna play" by breaking them down into archetypes
>gives options for high power by giving mega hero, aliens, and robots
>skills aren't as much a part of the game as they are at a glance, actually reading the book you'll find that you're only supposed to roll them when you're under pressure or the clock is ticking
>gives kick ass random charts for people who want to try to make things that they would never normally think to play themselves
>also has random charts for people who are so uncreative that they can't come up with their own background.

Not that person you replied to but you kinda come across as a twat. The prompt of the thread was "system discussion" not "I know x and have no interest in anything else"
>>

When I was running it we started with concepts and used the existing Marvel characters as baselines.

The book does a decent breakdown of the tiers of power with d8 being Captain America strong, d10 being Spider-Man strong, and d12 being Colossus strong.

Given that its all there for you to have a dice pool, the nuts and bolts aren't 100% required. SFXs are the real bread and butter and where your character starts to come out from just the raw stats. You start getting named attacks or signature maneuvers or special applications of your powers. Like how Spider-man can just bullshit up some stuff out of webbing.

It's shitty that Marvel didn't want them making custom character rules and de-prioritized it, but you can see the rules they do manage to give and follow examples.

AMP Year One?

You aren't really giving anything to work with, honestly.
>>
>>46641114
Oh shit, didn't expect to see AMP mentioned here. Unbalanced as shit, but great system for playing with friends. My group played for almost a year.

I've never gotten the chance to play it, but I've backed all the kickstarters, because I think Eloy is a cool dude.

Sure lets see that random. Using random.org because damn that nonuniformness.
6 - psychic powers
3 - medium
8, 2 - shifter, elastic
28 - haggler
16 - deep sleeper
6, 20, 11 - empathy survival knowledge

..eh. MNM random gen is better.

Yeah, not a great idea for a goddamn RPG, but Marvel wants you playing as their characters.

That's probably why most of the splat books are just loads of Marvel characters statted out.

DC Heroes has above average rules, actually rather clever ones. I only played it a little.
