>DM hides character stats, enemy stats, weapons stats, spells used, spell damage etc.
>only hard numbers the players have ready knowledge of is their equipment slots, about how much gear they can carry and the number of coins in their purse

Would you play a game like this? Picture obviously not related.
>>
>>46636033
I've had the exact same idea for a game, OP, but I've never gotten to implement it.
>>
Yeah as long as this is all established before hand.
Basically like playing as an actual amnesiac. And forces creativity and paying uber attention.

Not knowing anything about yourself is retarded, you would at least know your own strengths and weaknesses and where you are in comparison to those you interact with directly.

No, that's stupid. I don't want to play 20 questions with the GM every time I want to take a basic action and hope they let me. It only serves to slow the game down to a crawl.
>>
>>46637206
The Neptunia series. The memest memegames to ever haved memed
>>
>>46637270
I think the idea is more like, the player describes their character's strong points, and the GM elaborates from that.
For example - "My character is a big lunk of a farm boy, the sort of guy who can pick up a log with a single hand. A bit dim, though, but he can last through searing heat and biting cold, and take a punch from every guy in the hamlet and keep on his feet."

Hiding information from players is fine. Some games operate this way, out of design or to promote game flow.

I think your example is a bit extreme, though. I don't know what stats I have? I don't know if I have memorized any spells or not? That seems like it is just asking for 20 questions regarding characters stumbling around blindly until they hit upon their class powers. "I attempt to pick the lock. Do I succeed? Well, I guess I don't have the Pick Locks skill."

>>46637309
This is a bit more reasonable, and somewhat how older D&D systems ran. (Although players obviously knew their stats.)

its interesting but it could only work if the DM is really good with descriptions
>>
>>46636033
It would be interesting as long as the players had at least some Idea of their stats and skills, otherwise it would just be like fumbling around in the dark, but I assume that's not what you meant.

No, A lack of any information means a lack of ability to make meaningful choice.
>>
>>46640099
The helmet has it's own mouth, I think.
So yes, kind of.
>>
>>46641048
Thats why the first session needs to be more focused on familiarization. Give the players some time to figure out what they can do well/not so well, then the real shit starts.

>>46636033
is Dengekiko News a reliable and honest source?
>>
>>46643568
As much as Famitsu reviews
>>
>>46636033
Impossible, the players have the books they can look up the weapons and abilities they are usin. You'd also have to create and level them as the gm to avoid it.

On the other hand, games where you don't know the NPCs stats and what you are rolling against most of the time? That's just how you play if you are not an MMO playing DnD dungeon crawl faggot.
>>
>>46643568
She tries to be, but she's got a pretty heavy bias towards Lastation and Lady Black Heart.
>>
>>46636033
I'd give it a shot, sure.
>>
>>46636033
I'd definitely play. I wouldn't want to GM for a game like that though
>>
>>46636033
In a heartbeat.
>>
I've thought of something similar but having the system contained in a mobile or Web app.
>>
I think this is way too extreme, but I'm fan of games where GM makes all the rolls (aside character generation) and hides hard results because it enhances immersion and makes game more narrarive.
>>
>>46636033
Not knowing details about opposition is fine. I'd go so far as to say it's normal. Might want to give them stats, or a ballpark if they would now them IC.
Not knowing your own stats? OP do you want to play free form? Because that's only reason for this to ever seem like a good idea.

To elaborate - RPG mechanics are a thing because they add mechanical ways for players to influnce the narrative. And because it helps players to estimate what should be expecting from opposition (w/e form it may take, from monsters, to riddles, to mysteries, to NPCs)

Stripping them of this control defeats purpose of RPG system, and again calls for question of "why?"
>>
>>46646655
I've wondered why there aren't laptop TTRPG systems that would handle character/npc/monster creation and combat simulation (basically hex grid utilizing ascii graphics like nethack, so easy to fit any setting), that way you could have insane rules without them slowing down game. I know of Roll20 and things like that, but I mean actual system designed for that and being standalone, so you could play offline.
>>
>>46647460
There is.. Multiple in fact. Most of them are pet projects and as such limited in usefullness in one way or the other. Of the bigger ones RPtools and Hero lab come to mind. Different degrees of usefulness but they are there.

Remember that some RPG systems are absurdly complex for a "game". Implementing even 1 of them requires serious investment. That's why things like Roll20 and FantasyGrounds are most developed - they can actually make profit. And have a community that can add their own systems to them (via macro, charsheets, templates, etc.).
>>
>>46636033
Not knowing crunch, and just having a descriptive estimates is my favourite way to play as Dm, and my players love it.

It is really HARD for Dm though.

It focudes way more focus on rp aspect.

You have no idea that you only have 5hp put of 10 left.
But you know that you are wounded and battered all.over, but can still fight.

Plus it removes all powergaming cunts from your games which I'd a big plus.
>>
>>46636033
It would have to be some manner of homebrew or some weeb shit nobody's ever heard of, otherwise it's guaranteed you'll get some joker like me who reads every book and memorizes important bits for quick reference.

That said, players should always know about their PCs. GM hiding enemy information is just good sense, imo. Brew up some shit that isn't in a book and fuck their shit up.
>>
>>46643568
I can at least say she's the cutest.
>>
>>46636033
No. I don't trust the GM to know the rules well enough or being able to keep track of everything at the best of times, and the kind of GM that would create a campaign like that would definitely be the sort who thinks he shouldn't have to know the rules.
>>
>>46647623
