I played one using the 4e take on him, which is a vaguely fascist one. Order brings discipline, which brings strength.
Which can be an appealing philosophy in a D&D style world where every town is raided by bandits/orcs/dragons. I played him mostly as an unsympathetic dick, who took any and all opportunities to point out where people could have helped themselves.

Devote your character's entire...character...to their unyielding belief in what they interpret as Bane's will. I do this with my Goddess in my tabletop, and she's patron of rot and eating people. So, I take her teachings to mean that all things have a set end and will decay at some point and that through the decay of structure and order and belief and flesh there is rebirth, and through the consumption of the dead they are reborn through you. So, make some beliefs.
Here: The world is divided into the Small guys and the Big guys, and they are only Small or Big on a case by case basis, for you. CIA failed to understand this because he was a Small guy in mind as well as body. Being a Big Guy must be a belief, a mindset. Be a Big Guy in your beliefs and actions and be mighty and be faithful. Do everything intensely and devote a hundred percent of yourself and you follow His word, the Path of the Big Guy.
