I've only got a couple of hours this evening, so this will not be an incredibly long session. This Civ will take place in a modified high middle ages setting, with fantasy pulled in. Expect to see Half Elven Mercenaries fighting for Goblin Merchant Princes in the Holy Roman Empire, to have the Dwarves defending Constantinople (Or Karak-Constan, if you prefer) from Hobgoblin Ottomans.

With that housekeeping done, lets get down to business, first three votes for race, and for location. Add any other details you'd like when requesting race/location. Are you a Mercenary Company, a Duchy, or something else? (The Chart is by no means binding)

I'm very disappointed to see not only have Skorpionfolk been added with none of the trait suggestions we made in the Civ general, but Chaos Dwarves and Chaos Harpies got added but not Loxodons, a race long overdue for adding to the civ chart.

On a second note I abhor how slow /tg/ is most of the day, so I guess ill be first vote on what should be a busy thread

Crystalid Mercenary company, I suppose a Valley as a starting point, as it has bonus to mining and it's where we'd find our valuable stones to make us grow, but not permanent given how mercenaries are nomadic and stuff

Hey guys

guys what if
what if we're a demon lord, caged inside a very pretty gem. We gradually control the holder of the gem, by whispering suggestions into him, like how that person is actually mocking him with his greeting and should be killed, or how to fight well with swords. We either find our way to an influential host, or elevate the poor fool we find to that position. Every time we fuck shit up the gem gets lost and found again a few hundreds years later with new tech and well after events unfolded. It's sorta like the movie Interview with a Vampire.

That keeps things refreshing and interesting in every arc.
>>

Just flip a coin between loxo or harpies OP. Being a nomad horde of those is the only thing right now that has more than one vote.
>>
>>46591643
That chart is from ages ago, it's the only one I have saved.
>>46591882
I'll give it a short while longer

Votes stand as:
1. Duergar Siculo-Normans 1
2.Crystallid Mercenaries 1
3. Harpy Mongols 2
4. Loxodon Mongols 2
5. Demon Gemstone 1

I vote for Duergar Siculo-Normans

Dwarves - Volcano

Both of these settings, as the new-come Mongol Threat (Loxodon/Harpy) and the Siculo-Norman Duchies (Duergar) are not one's I'm familiar with. I will do my research on both, but I'd be lieing if I said I knew more than the basics of horse archer societies and more than the basic history of Lombard dukes in Italy.

what we had down for Loxodon so far is

>Loxodon
>Breeding: struggle
>Melee: Specialist
>Ranged: Abysmal
>Magic: Average
>Technology: Exceptional
>Diplomacy: Struggle

>+Natural Armor (Small weapon resistance due to thick, tough skin)
>+Trample (Can trample smaller creatures for automatic bonus damage)
>+-Eidetic Memory (Bonus when researching or crafting; minor diplomatic penalty for condescending nature of Loxodons

>+-Voracious Herbivore (Can survive off almost any vegetation, although requiring huge quantities)
>>
>>46592287
Right, Loxodon Steppe Nomads it is.

So, this gives us several historical options.

First is playing as a tribe of Loxodons in the place of the Goths, pushed down by the advancing huns.

Second is playing as the Mongols in Loxodon format, during the years of the Mongol Empire's greatest period, under Kublai and so forth.

Third is playing as the remnants of the Golden Horde, or another post-mongol Khanate, dealing with the Russians rising up and so forth.
>>
>>46592399

Always pick Mongols.
>>
>>46592399
>>46592527
picking a smaller horde size such as notGoths could make it slightly easier to manage, the whole thousands of warriors migrating and "negotiating" our way through notRome and all
>>
>>46592399
Mongols
>>
>>46592555

OP, just make us a manageable version of what we want.
>>
>>46592555
I really would prefer this. I know a lot more about Goths than Mongols, and a lot more about the historical context.

>>46592556
>>46592527
If this is the way people want it to be, however, I'll do my utmost to research the topic, and I'm sure I can do a very quick bit of tribal infighting in this session.
>>
>>46593089
I'm trying, it's not easy.

I think the best option would be to play a small war-band within the central mongol state, and attempt to strike out from there to establish a Khaganate.
>>
>>46593129

Hey man, you're in charge. Do what you feel would work.
>>
Darkness fills the world in a swirling tempest, the great winds of the steppe blasting across thousands of acres of barely touched grass, kept short by the hunger of the Loxodon. Hidden behind a ridge lies a collection of wool and leather tents, huge to any human, and built in a near circle. The camp is lit by a great central fire, fed with icons taken from the conquered. On one side of the flame stands the Khan, and on the other, the challenger. The Khan is a titan of scarred, leather like skin, his great bronze inlaid tusks glinting in the firelight, focused black eyes staring on with the dominance and dignity of a ruler. He circles to the side, and his younger challenger does the same.

The younger Loxodon is smaller than the older, but stands taller despite his fighting stance. His tusks are capped with flanges of bronze, and he holds a huge mace. This is a fight to the death, and the odds go against the challenger. If the Khan wins, the challenger is dead. If the Khan lives too long, the Challenger is dead. But if the Challenger kills the Khan, then only glory awaits him.

Ash forms on the ends of the two warrior's trunks, streaking under massive, focused eyes. In a moment, the Great Bull, the Khan, rears up, sweeping the fire towards his opponent with a huge, scarred foot. The challenger does not flinch, and takes the opportunity to show his willpower, standing firm against the kicked up embers, before rushing forward, tusks locking with the Khan's in a violent clang. The two twist, all of their strength poured into this clash. The challenger raises his mace to slam it down into the Khan's skull, but the Khan, trained and hardened, slams a huge fist into his challenger's gut, knocking the younger beast off balance, backwards into the embers

The challenger rises, wounded, but vigorous. The Khan remains standing, tired, but indomitable.

Who is the Stronger?

The Khan is not stupid enough to take time to gloat, but he takes a moment to reform his stance. This single moment gives the Challenger his chance, in a moment the challenger rises, in a moment he barrels forward, and in a moment, he slams into the Khan with an unrelenting charge, the sickening thud of scarred flesh on shoulder rings outwards across the camp, and the two exchange a violent flurry of blows before slinking away, the challenger circling the now losing Khan like a vulture, darting in and landing another blow on the Khan, only sustaining a light blow in return. Slowly, the battle wears down.

The Khan is exhausted, but he will not die. His tusks remain sharp, his muscles remain strong. Several bones are fractured, and he is weary, but he will keep fighting. The Challenger is less wounded, but still exhausted. The Challenger's time is running out, and several lesser chieftains from around the ring whisper to one another. One of them approaches the challenger with a blade, and the Challenger raises his arm to stall the man, saying, in a gnarled grunt

''I will finish it''

The two hulks rise once more, and the Challenger charges. The Khan can do little but raise his tusks to defend himself, but this cannot stop the desperate charge of the Challenger. More than a ton of flesh, bone and tusk slam into the Khan, and force him back onto his knees. The two hold there for an ethereally long moment, before a sickening, horrifying snap reverberates through the air, and one of the Khan's tusks snaps in two, held together by a single sinew.

The Khan pauses for a moment in surprise, and bellows in horrified, shocked pain, the tusk having snapped off along with his jaw. The challenger wrestles the old man down to the ground and kneels over his prone form, the two grappling in a desperate melee. The chieftain raises the blade.
>>46594170
DEUS VULT
>>
>>46594643

The Blade swings down in an arc, but the Challenger's head moves down faster, the massive bulk of it slamming into the face-plate of the Khan with a sickening thud. The sound of bone meeting bone rings out. Then, the Challenger's head rises once again, and slams down once more. Over, and over, the rise and the fall.

The sounds change, from bone on bone, to bone on flesh, to the sickening wet thud of bone on brain. The sun rises peeks over the horizon, casting an eerie light upon this victory, and the Challenger rises from the broken form of the Chieftain, his brow coated in gore.

The tribe falls to it's knees in a silent oath of fealty, an acknowledgement of prowess above all else. The old Khan's tusks are town away, and attached to a chain, to be worn as a symbol by the new Khan, the tips of the old Khan's greatest weapons now mere trinkets to the new Khan.

In the light of the fire, the Khan will be granted a new name, a greater title. His old name is dead, what he was is dead, What is he now?

The new Great Bull? The Raging Torrent? The Blooded Skull? Or will he remain the Exile Alpha?

The Alpha, The Khan and The Alpha Usurper/Guardian/Exile will all be used as titles for our leader.

So,now we've got the start of our story established, we've basically done everything we needed to do in this generation thread. I don't have the time to actually launch into seventeen hours of writing, because I'm starting a job tomorrow and just did a ten mile walk, but I will start a proper, all evening thread tomorrow at around half five, GMT.

In the mean time, I'm more than happy to answer setting questions, if for no other reason than to get it more established in my head. I'm dreadfully sorry that there are so few actual posts here, but with the shear amount of time that these things need to get started, it seemed expedient to get it out of the way before the first real session, because I unfortunately have other things I need to do that limit my Civving time.

I hope everyone's enjoyed the snippet of writing, I will try to keep up that quality, but do note that it does take a while between posts of that size.

I'll be answering questions for a while if anyone has any, thanks for playing for these last few hours.

we're Loxodon, from the little that's written about them they tend to seem Asiatic, although we could include a kind of caste-system, where the elder Mastodon Lox rule over the Asiatic, or regular Loxodon

Let's write up some fluff in our spare time.

Who are our ancestral gods? What's our pantheon? Monotheistic Allfather? Hellenic type with dozens of deities? What races does our tribe has historical vendettas against? Who have been friendly to us through history and times of hardship? Have we ever practiced slavery or been enslaved?
I'll start with saying that once long ago our race was uplifted and enslaved by a powerlusting demon that took the form of a small ruby gem, that bestowed unimaginable insight and intelligence to its holds, all the while corrupting it to suit the demons own needs that it could one day transcend it's crystal prison. At some point the race was freed, history we could flesh out in the future.

I know this doesn't really matter, these are fictional after all, but Elephants and all of their relatives are Matriarchal. The leaders of the heard are older females, Males leave to pursue a solitary life shortly after they're weaned.

I'm not saying this isn't cool, it is, but it doesn't make a lot of sense from a biological standpoint.

Sorry for the autism
>>
>>46606026
Humans had the same early system, instinctual practices ends being law when civilization begins
>>
>>46608993
>Humans had the same early system

False, depending on the region, early humans lived in groups anywhere from 5-15 and were a mix of male and females.

Elephant herds are almost exclusively female, it isn't a Harem situation.
>>
>>46612430

Still, OPs "teaser" already said that those in positions of power were male. Perhaps something happened politically that prevented a female Khan.
>>
>>46612698
Obviously, it's fiction. I just get a ping in my animal-autism radar that causes me to sperg. Having a Zoology degree is suffering.

Don't get me started on gnolls, ugh
>>
>>46591291
If you think volcanoes are bad for agriculture, you need to brush up on your geology. Weathered volcanic soil contains an amazing wealth of bioavailable minerals and nutrients, and is responsible for making places like Naples (home to Mt. Vesuuvius) breadbaskets. It's a gamble with Mother Nature, yes, but one that's paid off for every savvy farmer even before Jesus was in diapers.

Thus, I would suggest designing volcanic regions with exactly those characteristics; immensely fertile and abundant with natural resources, but with the potential to vaporize settlements on the miniscule off-chance of disaster.
>>
>>46613772
We'll have to bring that up next time we do more revisions to the Civ charts, post it to the Civ General and hopefully someone can update it
>>
>>46615306
Also the Loxodon/elephant relationship.
