We all know that Terra is a first class priority world. But, how many resources will spend the Imperium defending Terra again against a new threat.? All of them? Or maybe Terra has enough with the Sol armies? Will they call the whole IG? See that there are a lot of worlds in danger of being atacked while Terra is sieged. And every world has its own dangers. Chapters of space marines have their own missions and tasks to do, like the GI. There are more worlds with first priority.

If there was an invasion fleet capable of reaching the Sol system, past thousands of world's with high powered military and resources, I would assume this would be an apocalypse type siege. Like Black Crusade made a hateful love child with the Tyranid hive fleet and the Necrons mass rising.

Then it'll be a siege to end all sieges, with all the soldiers of man arriving to fight this galaxy wide terror on Holy Terra.

Rate my head canon broskis.
>>
And it will be something openly said in imperial worlds? You know, If people knows that Terra is on siege, maybe there could be worlds with rebellions, or world becoming more and more fanaticized in their beliefs.

Imagine being a worker that makes screws for whatever you want. And someone from the imperial cult starts saying that earth is on siege. And in some point everyone knows it. What you would do? make more screws? tryto join a crusade? Remember, you're a loyal citizen.

EVERYTHING.

Without Terra there is no Emperor. Without Terra there is no Astronomican. Without Terra there is no High Lords. The Imperium IS Terra.
Also Mars is just next door and it's almost as important.

Every other system can burn, so long Terra stands. Every. Single. One.
If Terra stands, the Imperium is alive. It can recolonise, in theory. Without it, the Imperium is dead.
Oh sure, plenty of planets will keep ticking along for a while. Separated. Fragmented. Prey to xenos and the Warp.
Assuming that Choirs can even allow for Warp travel at all. The Segmentum Solar is almost certainly entirely dark for Warp ships. Who the fuck has a choir up to guide ships that close to Terra? Just use the massive fuckoff psychic lighthouse at that range.
It's entirely possible that Imperial Warp travel is immediately grounded. Webways and Warp Skimming become the only viable means of ftl transport. Everything crumbles. Humanity is nothing more than a widespread minor xeno race to the Tau, and a memory for the Eldar.

But m8, what about Imperium Secundus? What about creating new, but little, empires? There a thousands of worlds that could inherit the Imperium. If you deploy ALL, you are condemning all the future.
>>
>>46572223
So what you're saying is you'd let the Emperor die?

And I guess shit like Ultramar might endure. But so diminished that at that point why even bother? The Necrons or 'Nids will just rise up and faceroll the galaxy before Secundus can even get an expansion wave underway.

This pretty much.

Navigators predate the astronomican but the breeding population is mostly on Terra.

Without the Emperor there will also be no astropaths. They might die with him because they are bound to him or they might not but no more will be made.

Just pull one of jupiters moons out of orbit and crash into the invasion fleet.

Your counting on the invasion fleet holding very, VERY still.

Everything they can you cant let terra fall because it has so many critical functions located there
Imperial leadership-its the place where the imperial organizations that hold all the worlds together gather to settle disputes and solve issue
Religion- as its where the emperor is lives and so the one unifying ideal that holds humanity together can splinter apart without the central authority rooting out heresy
Administration- its where the whole show is run even if its at a snails pace

Communication and transportation- its where the navigators are born who are vital for transportation and the astronomicon which allows the imperium to communicate using the astropaths without it there's no way for humanity to communicate or transport anything effectively if at all

Mars- if an attack on terra is coming mars will also be attacked as well its a strong point which can launch attack to help terra and is the center of industry science and knowledge in the imperium so the fabricator general is going to bust out all the shiny toys necessary to keep it safe

Probably even wake up the C-tan down there on purpose if it's really THAT mad.

Sure lots of ships would be sent, but that would be only a fraction of a power of Imperium. Most of the stuff available would be late or not come at all thanks to the inefficiency of Departmento Munitorum. And even then, the logistics and coordination would tax even the Shipyards of Mars. And what if some of them is an enemy spy? Every ship would have to be screened.

>be governor of rather large Hive World
>wake up
>cardinal enters your bedroom, a tremendous offense
>he apologies and tells that the astropath got a message last night
>apparently it comes straight from Holy Terra
>wipesweat.jpg
>ask what it says
>Only two words: SEND EVERYTHING
>send what and where?
>order them to send a message back to clarify
>the answer newer comes

>be vice captain of the Her Rightful Gift -cruiser
>the ship is located on the orbit of Mars but is placed on quarantine and is forbidden to do practically anything until it is scanned by the inspection crew
>only 892 149 before us in que for inspection
>estimated wait time 21 Terran months
>have a rash, pray the Emperor the ship isn't infected by Nurgles rot or some other vile corruption

The new Beast Arises series shows just what a paper tiger Terra is.

Basically due to the arrogance and inter-politicking of the High Lords most of Battlefleet Solar, defending Guard, and Imperial Fists garrison are off fighting the Orks while the Mechanicum is literally attempting to teleport Mars to safety and offering no aid. An Ork deathstar appears over Terra with only Arbites/sparse IG/Frateris Militia/a few ships and orbital platforms to defend it. The High Lords never really thought anyone would have the audacity to attack Terra given its reputation and status.

It happened so quickly that Terra had no time to mobilize a defense, unlike in the Heresy where Dorn had 9 years to do so.

Basically in theory, assaulting Terra should be suicidal and if you give the Imps time to prepare it will be. However if you can sneak in with something big while the ummies are distracted you can get it unawares.

If Terra goes the Imperium goes. If the Imperium goes humanity goes. End of debate. Stragglers might survive a few years more but humanity will never ever be a force in the galaxy again.
And this is ignoring all the meta knowledge. If the Emperor dies reality will be destroyed and replaced by Chaos.
>>
>>46581925
That's because the Imperium was pretty much at peace though. Orks were pushed to the fringes, Chaos and heretics were harried, slaughtered and trapped in to the Eye of Terror and Eldar were even more secretive as usual.
I'm pretty sure the Sol system in 40k is, canonically, the most defended part of the galaxy.
>>
>>46570986

What's up with the flying hexagon in the background?
>>
>>46584910
This.
Beast takes place immediately after a period of peace following the Scouring, not during the heavily militarized buildup that followed.
Come 40k, the Sol system has a 25 million ship strong fleet right there, likely due to the events of Beast.
>>
>>46570986

All of them for certain. Terra is absolutely essential for the continued existence of the Imperium and no world in the galaxy can substitute for it because of astronomican.

All of them.

Everything is expendable for Terra.
