Heya /tg/! I come bearing another idea for an Evo Game.

Rules (yes I know, they're copypasted from the Crystals Evo Game):
>Open an existing creature in paint or whatever and give it one evolutionary adjustment at the time
>don't forget to +1 the generation on the top right corner
>describe adjustment and upload new image
>every once in a while the environment will shake things up, some creatures will go extinct

>No silly stuff, those won't become cannon
>No creating new species out of thin air
>No 'catching up' and doing a bunch of evo's by yourself, every creature should go through multiple steps by multiple people
>Evolutions shouldn't be to drastic, but you shouldn't bitch about other players 'not being realistic' either
>Any one evolution can't 'jump' their habitat up more than one level, and even then it's an extraordinary kind of event. Going down, though, is much easier - at least until you go below the waterline. Then you get the restriction again.

And here's The Pit's environment. A vertical cylindrical shaft with a diameter of 14,000 km and 100,000 km deep, divided into 10 levels.
Our starter creatures start out at the boundary between the 3rd Level and the 4th.

Next, the description of the starter creatures.

First, we have the Nidh, a blind flatworm that uses two small nubs on one of its end to taste things, and two antennae on the other to detect vibrations in the water. It eats by using its entire bottom surface and digesting any organic matter and nutrients it could find.

>>46558896
Next we have the Chan, a small semitransparent bug that uses four rigid appendages to float on the surface of the water and to cling to the walls while wet. It is a herbivore, and primarily eats algae and the Muzz. Its two antennae can smell and taste both in air and water.
>>

>>46558930
Then we have the Tang, a purely aquatic jellylike thing with a single tentacle it uses to strangle prey like Nidhs or Chans. It also uses the tentacle to smell and detect vibrations, and for locomotion, even though its bell could also be used for movement.

Lastly, we have the Muzz, a kind of moss that is home both underwater and out of water. Out of water, though, it tends to grow a few flexible tendrils to get more sunlight. Chans eat the Muzz to get some photosynthetic cells for themselves, but cannot survive purely on (stolen) photosynthesis alone. Not yet, anyways.

Now, go forth and fill The Pit with life!

this variant of Chan grow small pouches above their back legs that are use to store valuables.

The antenna also change shape a bit and have some curves. These antenna have small nubs on the tips and can detect some wavelengths of colour, though mostly only yellow colours.

Some of these are attracted to caves that have glittery material in them, but are forced to only spend very short periods of time in them, due to food and water requirements and the pouches not being big enough for more than a little water and green stuff.

Why those colors though, their predators will see them easier and their prey will run away faster too
Mating?
>>
>>46560749
you can create a reason for scavenger nidh to develop the same colours as the French flag and be coward race...

I will go with a tentative "the colouration helped them know their allies, and also when they are in a school of nidh it completely confuses predators who have capability of colour vision."

Some Caped Tangs absorb chlorophyll from eaten Chans. Additional nutrients supply makes them larger and slower, clinging to the water margin for sunlight.
Air sacks are used for balance. Tentacles are rarely used for locomotion, become weak and thing, yet long, and also possess chlorophyll cells.

EVENT TIME!

A shift in the planet's tilt causes The Pit to be (almost) directly illuminated by sunlight during noon, although it only lasts for an hour in the 4th Level. Those who photosynthesize will have more sunlight, and will cause a population boom.
But, with more numbers, also come problems relating to competition. Not to mention the predators now get plentiful prey!

How will the critters evolve their way out of this?

A new colonial breed of Verde-Tang appears - Carpets. They have also become 100% autotrophs.

Increase in solar radiation brought population boom, with Verde Tangs trying to evade each others for insolated surface space. Often Verdes would entangle in each others' moving tentacles and die from ripping one another or becoming easy prey. Some, however, fused by their tentacles (due to as yet very primitive and compatible structures and genetics) into a colonial organism.
Such carpets lost their air sacks and tentacles. Tentacles became both a circulatory organ to share nutrients and a primitive neural net to collect and analyse sensory data. It can store much info, but it is "wasted" on synchronising colony feeding and reacting (swim-swim-swim away) to external irritants

Chans and squirter Tangs would sometimes harass such carpets, Chans bleeding carpets to death while squirters would rip them accidentally while plunging above or diving. Hence remaining carpets hardened and multiplied their vestigal tentacles into hard (yet not solid) cilias that can move somewhat.
Cilias move when colony tries to swim a bit away from the edge (where Muzzleafs "steal" sunlight) or when triggered by another lifeform approaching or touching. It can't kill another species but can irritate them enough not to become totally harmless food-thing.
