they fuck us here on prices, then they go off US prices for trades, we literally pay $6.50 a pack to get a 30c rare 90% of the time

Here's how I talk myself out of buying boxes if i feel questionable about it. Go to any of the spoiler sites that list the entire set. Then very slowly go over every single rare in the set. At each rare ask yourself "If I was opening just 1 pack would i be satisfied to find this in the back?" Keep a tally of rares you'd personally be fine with opening and rares you'd be disappointed to see. Once you've gone through all the rares you should have your answer on whether or not you want to go ahead and get the box.

New Avacyn is honestly pretty dope. I could also see abbey in more than a few decks and Relentless Dead might... do something in some format or another.
Anyway, EV for a box of SoI is like $103 usd according to mtggoldfish, which is apparently 136.57 aud so yes, that's a colossal ripoff but so is everything in Australia. Could be fun though, if you have a friend you could build 18 pack sealed decks or something.
5 packs into my booster box, got a Jace, Arlinn Kord, Hydra, and a couple decent rares. All together, my rare/mythic/foil pulls total 15k pucapoints.
Was about to send my Jace out, the realized how much money I have on there already and how I don't want anything and stopped myself. I wish I could get the Arlinn Kord I mailed out after prerelease back now too.
