Alan Blueson, 32, Technical, Dull Technopath

While trying to to calm down a Yautja he’s offended with the help of a nearby Mokresian, Alan somehow manages to offend the Mokresian as well. He strikes up a conversation with you as a way to extricate himself from the situation.

+ Between his stealth suit and his cyber-eyes, he’s an incredible scout
+ Has a neurological implant that lets him interface directly with many computers
+/- Prefers to communicate with AI and Synths through his implant
- Ignores or offends everyone he would actually need to speak out loud to
- Has basically no defense against anything etherial
+ Can hack virtually anything technical, though
+/- Good at stealth kills and sniping, falls apart in a fair fight
- Disappears occasionally to do mysterious side missions
+ Comes back with a ton of loot

“Um… my AI says we should go left.”

Alan was a socially inept system administrator who spent every day trying to automate his job away. He couldn’t relate to people as well as he could computers, getting caught up in his thoughts and forgetting to speak them out loud. Then he crossed paths with Fulcanelli, and was told to follow the smell of roasted chicken. He arrived in Ae in a beer-soaked clown costume, a process which Falcanelli insists fended off an alien invasion. Alan has been picking things up unusually quickly, even getting glimpses behind the curtains - or between the cracks - that much more experienced travellers haven't seen. Still can’t look into the whites of a man’s eyes as he kills them, however.

Alan's cyber-eyes can see information outside the spectrum of visible light, as well as zooming in and all that jazz. It can also display or overlay data provided by cameras, allies, his computer, or his memory box.

Alan got a neurological implant from Bio and Tech that lets him technopathically communicate with anything that has a wireless interface, including ‘telepathic’ communication with AI.

Alan uses a Cedril Vibration Dispenser to pull off many of the tricks expected of a rogue, like picking locks or rewriting computers without an accessible interface.

Eve is an unformed AI that lives in Alan's bracer. Alan has been raising her as a tactician with games and game-like simulations. At times it seems like she thinks of Alan as her avatar in a game. The plan is for her to develop into a pilot of drones and vehicles, acting as the party's wheels and muscle. In the meantime, she processes data and aggressively advises the party. She also acts as a sort of interface for Alan, who's too lazy to actually read his encyclopedia. Eve uses Alan's cyber-eyes to overlay a game-like UI for him.
>>
>>46525410
>>46525435
Marco and Chiyome have been teaching Alan the roguely ways. Chiyome teaches him stealth, and Marco teaches him to approach things from oblique angles. They may join the party on missions, but are likely to perform some solo role.

Prophet is a mostly-formed AI that Alan is putting the finishing touches on. In a party of weirdos, Prophet acts as the face. Not only does she handle direct communications, but she also manages passive communication - particularly the appearance of the party, for some reason paying special attention to Alan.

Arcu is the perfect scout and investigator. His observations can be streamed directly to Alan, or filtered through Eve. Arcu is unashamed about sharing his most voyeuristic observations with Alan.

In retrospect, putting the build/bio in a pastbin was a good idea some other anon had.

Abuna Ewostatewos, 124, True Travellers, Seeker of God(s)

You notice a lively theological discussion at a table of minor gods with Ewostatewos calmly moderating. At a pause in conversation he turns to you and waves, like he long expected to see you there.

+ Ethereal, psionic, Ethiopian ascetic who specializes in an esoteric form of divination, giving him near unrivaled access to the currents of time.
+ Sage; gives insightful advice and has a deep, innate understanding of the ethereal realms.
-/+ Powerful psionic, but he prefers taking the peaceful route. Does not tolerate cruelty.
- Sometimes goes into long meditative states that could last anywhere from hours to days.
- Will spend hours discussing theological matters with newly met gods or spirits unless dragged away.
+ Good at befriending said gods or spirits.
- Technologically illiterate. He’s taking courses, but it took him a months to learn how to use an elevator.
+ Makes the best Ethiopian food you’ve ever had.

“Might we stop running please? I have a few questions for that God of Decay.”

Liaison note: If I hear about the etherealogical consequences of Zoroastrianism and Ibadism merging on Terra-D7832 one more time, I'm going to scream.

Please point out what I did wrong and what I did right, this is my first CYOA and the first time I used photoshop so there's bound to be a ton of errors. Hopefully I can make more of these in the future, with better quality of course.

And yes, it is heavily inspired by two other CYOAs. It'll be obvious which two those are when you start reading.

Agent Fedorov
Katie Butler

That Guy

The Little Girl

I don't even pick the obligatory little girl option normally, but it's kind of the perfect thing for the "nobody will suspect a thing" street dealer build. Of course the detective would suspect a thing, but the kingpin being a child seems like a fitting cliche detective story plot twist, In a cartoony Pheonix Wright or Detective Conan sort of way. And what's he gonna do if he wins? Send the kid to juvie?

Otherwise, all I gotta do is brew some shit for candy money, Use Katie as the bankroll for ingredients and Fedorov for distribution.

I almost sort of want gun room, but I'm pretty sure without it getting Fedorov a couple of pistols shouldn't be too hard if she doesn't come with her own.

Jula is stuck in the middle of the registry line, hot and miserable as she taps her foot impatiently. She's here to renew the permit for her ship, but the thought of doing it tomorrow is growing more and more tempting.

+ Having experience as a privateer, Jula knows how to raid a ship, strike fear and kill anyone who resists.
- Has a tendency to steal swords everywhere she goes and hoard them in her house.
+ Captain of the "Kestrel", a stealth frigate designed for reconnaissance and hit-and-run tactics, always looking for people to add to her crew.
+/- Will gladly help you with anything, but will take a healthy amount of the loot as payment.
- Has to return to Ae monthly to donate blood for Medical.
+/- Has a leech by the name of Horace that loves her to bits, but hates your guts and will try to bite you.
+ Not afraid to fight dirty, more likely to bombard the enemy from the air or with her raygun than fight fair.
+/- Always exploring new places and getting herself in trouble all for the sake of adventure.
- This sense of adventure might lead to darker things down the road...

Improved wings II - Not sure how relevant this is when I have magic but I like flight and the defence bonus is nice. (15)

Dragonbreath II - I choose light as my element so I can breathe lasers from my face. (21)

Cosmetics II - I want to have my scales, hair and eyes to constantly shift between the colours of the rainbow and the rate at which they shift increases with my heartrate. If possible I want the same effects added to my breath attack. One last thing I'd want is to have the physique of Henry Cavill because I might as well when given the choice. (23)

Form change I - I'd like to be human some of the time. (25)

Dragon strength I - Just so I can carry a friend if needed but I'm sure it would be useful for everyday tasks. (28)

Senses - This was purely to spend the last of my points on. (30)

I pick Joyce because she's the cutest one there and her dislikes aren't even bad. We also both like magic but who doesn't?
She can teach me magic stuff too and enchantment is my favourite type so I'm lucky there.

Well this is what I have so far, I went with the E series since it technically is of human make, Also Three Missions is enough

Terra E5 - in which Steel and Silicon inherits the earth

Xenos[hidden] Humans [Hidden(?)] Ethereal Beings [Hidden] HL [Hidden] AI [Open]

Visible Tech Levels [Advanced] Visible Ethereal Levels [NA] Free wanderer [Yes]
Ethereal Presence [Obscenely High]

>Initially this timeline was categorized as a D series of Terran planets however due to recent developments it will now be recategorised into the E series as all human life had vanished into thin air at 12th of December 2012 A.D . At the moment there is no sentient LIFE here there are sentient entities residing within Terra E5 in the form AIs although in limited numbers as there were only three sentient AIs created prior to the disappearance of all human life and all of them have managed remain operational despite the lack of personnel to maintain them .Much like Terra F324 It is recommended that travellers disguise themselves as the Sentient AIs have developed an unhealthy obsession with anything remotely humanoid or sentient and a religion around humans.

I do echo >>46524240's sentiment that more choices would've been better than fewer points, and also add that the Choose Appearance perk is literally useless - you could remove it and the free perk it gives without unbalancing anything.
>>
>>46530403
The element of surprise.
>>
>>46527349
Flying Wings (7) - Birds gotta swim, dragons gotta fly.
Powerful Breath (13) - Force Element. Takes the form of a shimmering beam of concussive power.
Bulletproof Hide (20) - Scales are good, and I don't want to deal with any weaknesses.
Full Magic: Element = Force (28) - Easily the best option.
Full Cosmetics (30) - Genderswap, gorgeous face, /fit/ and stacked body, scales, hair, and eyes that change if I apply pigment to my scales. I want to be sexy, what can I say?

Roomie: Joyce. Probably has the best magical knowledge of the bunch, given she can turn people into a dragon, and certainly the best of the lady dragons.

I think Magic is a bit of a must-pick at this point. Why buy timeless when I can just learn to make myself immortal in the future? Anyway, I'll learn the magical arts, including transmutation and enchantment, and learn how to make myself immortal and other people into dragons. Then? Whatever I want.

Magic immortality basically implies you become a lich since your form of immortality is achieved through necromancy. It doesn't stop you from aging or anything like that. Eventually you'll turn into a walking corpse. Timeless perk keeps you from aging.

How about this guy as a black dragon who is part of some order of dragon peacekeepers. Basically it's his job to keep dragons a secret from everyday society, solve mysteries, and to take care of any renegade dragons out there. Lives in a cheap apartment and picking him would mean you'd get to be his partner and stop dragon crimes together.

Timeless 2 (21) You always take immortality when it's affordable.

Magic 2 (13) Definitely want the "exotic" magic. That stuff is way more interesting than just the classical elements.

Form change 1 (11) To keep a low profile and my usual life

Cosmetics 2 (9) If possible, I'd keep my human form pretty close to original (Maybe improve looks a bit given the opportunity) and go completely nuts on the dragon form as an alter ego. Drow-black skin, purple scales, gold eyes, gender-swap or futa-mode it if doable. etc. If the two forms are completely unrecognisable from each other I could consider the super-hero type thing. If they have to be similar I'd scale that waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay the hell back though.

Dragon Hide 2 (2) Weaknesses suck.

The only thing left I CAN buy is senses, but I'd rather not. Enhanced senses are more trouble than they're worth in the city. You don't want to smell everything.

Can I spend 2 points on a lesser version of dragon strength? Like equal to or a bit above peak human? Maybe able to lift one of those little smart cars, or lift a car with "Extreme" effort if "moderate" effort is the benchmark for a 3 point version?

As for element, I find the classical elements a little more boring, If I could literally make an "exotic" magic element like "illusion" I would. Given that the opposite elements weakness is a moot point anyways might keep that from being power-gamey. Maybe sound as an element if that's a reasonable compromise? Earth if I'd have to keep to the basics.

I'd choose to stay with Xiu if she can teach me how to use my magic.

Element: Earth

[23]Improved Wings II
[19]Dragon Hide I
[12]Strength II
[04]Magic II
[00]Senses II

Friend:Tahir Lark

Objectively speaking, magic II is vastly superior to all other options given enough time for magical study. You can master the appropriate field of magic that can duplicate all other powers and abilities.

Other than that there's three defensive abilities, improved Wings II and Dragon Hide I and II, improve wings II is the better overall defensive option, as tank rounds are insignificantly more powerful then small firearm bullets and it gives you more mobility and this the choice of disengaging from a confrontation or sometimes outright dodging a lethal blow, while energizing very well with senses I or II.
Dragon Hide I is simply more cost efficient, so won't be completely vulnerable when I need my wings to fly.

Dragon strength II is pretty good, a train car can weigh as much as 200 tons carrying a full load of cargo and this counts as a moderate or medium load to your lifting capacity, in DnD terms, this puts your strength somewhere between 75-78, while the average strength of thousands of years old ancient dragon have about 45-48 strength; you are 70% stronger than that in your half-dragon form.

Which only gets much more ridiculous if you go full dragon mode from change form II or through magic II, those humongous, gigantic or colossal size categories in addition to your quadrupedal nature assuming classic Western dragon, multiplicatively improves your strength and lifting capacity respectfully.

Senses I and II are great utility options, especially in a modern setting, allowing you track your enemies first, giving you the initiative. As for element? Personal preference.

Other then that, I can either take timeless II and be immortal right off the bet, or forgo it but taking Tahir as my friend, and just piggyback off of his necromantic research to achieve lichdom. The latter is more appealing to me.

I don't have dragon hide, so I shouldn't have a weakness, and I don't have a breath either.. If I still have to pick I guess I'll just be that asshole who chooses time magic

My Condolences for your loss.

Pretty decent overall. Points for simple but effective visuals.

I'd recommend moving some of the most important rules from the postscript to before the power selection. Particularly that the second tier of a power is an additive cost and requires the first (not that that isn't obvious from a little reading, but in game rules one should aim for maximum clarity) and making it briefer overall if you can. It might be good to find a way to hint at the way pricing works visually, like by moving the margin in a little before that one, and having a "+" before the price; or a second title with "[Power] II" and the full combined price. I do like that you did add a post script with rule and power clarifications, but I think some of the points brought up are important enough that they should be in the main part.

Magic II seems a little overpowered. It's a bit odd that the point difference between ~100 years and 400 years is double the point difference between 400 and potentially billions of years (an actuarial study found that if you removed all age related causes of death, the average human lifespan was ~1000 years). On top of that, there might be too many points total. Personally, especially with this many points, I'd break magic up into three categories or so with different abilities. I'd also include a long lifespan as part of being a dragon, with unaging as Timeless I, and like, savestates or no need to sleep or eat for level II.

I disagree. The magic option as current is completely fine, as is the point cost. Not enough to get everything I want but enough to be a very decent dragon and not a cripple as you no doubt desire.

Breaking up the magic gives more options for builds from the super physical to the super mystical as well as blends.

Hit the character limit before my build.

Timeless II (21)
Magic II (13)
Dragon Hide II (6)
Form I (4)
Cosmetics I (2)
Senses I (0)

Xiu Chang. I'm not into a motherly person, but would like a teacher, and she seems very pleasant and chill.

Since I didn't get a breath weapon, but got Magic II got Cosmetic, does my element matter at all? I'd pick Earth element though, with scales that have a sardonyx theme. I'm not sure what I'd do dragon stuff wise with cosmetic 2. Colors shifting under the light? I'd probably think more about it if I were to really get the choice. Long tail definitely.

Making myself a little taller with slightly broader shoulders and blemish free skin is most of what I'd want on the human side of Cosmetic II. And of course a and a gigantic spikey dragon wang. I bet you thought there'd be a joke under here.

>I agree with you on most parts.
How? I mean you see people's builds. They can't get literally everything here, the point count is fine.

Splitting up magic on the other hand offers no benefit. All you're actually doing is making people spend more points on their magic, reducing the overall point pool so they pick even less from the other options. If you're calling something 'overpowered' in a singleplayer CYOA, you actually mean too many people pick just that, and making an option cost more doesn't alleviate that issue but worsens it.

the Old Ones wanted to invade or something, and created an organization of time/dimension travellers to prepare the way. The organization caught on to what was happening, and fought a war to stop it. Now that organization keeps chugging along, with the ultimate goal of making sure the Old Ones can't invade again (though they have entire cities, and most people aren't visibly working towards that goal).

There are four core races, and others mentioned. Probably five if you included AI.
>>
>>46535821
But anon, my mother hasn't been a major presence in my life since I was 2.
>>
>>46535876

But how come those particular four are the core? What's happened that really led to that?
How come you can have an abomination pet then?
Isn't that kind of self-defeating?
Is this 'organization' the so-called travellers?
... How did the institution even come to be in the first place?
And if they actually time/dimension travel how come the war wasn't already lost when anyone caught up to it?
>>
>>46533907
In the current CYOA you can go none, a teeny bit, or all. In my suggestion, you could have about 27 different combinations from none to all, inclusive. 27 is more than 3.
So meet me half way here. This suggestion clearly has more of something, what would _you_ call them if not "options"?

Anyways, I think your actual objection has to do with total power. I would say all the suggestions put together equal the current Magic II.

>>46533840
>a cripple as you no doubt desire.
You have a very... "special" definition of "cripple" when even beings better than humans even could be in every way still count.

Anyways, my objection isn't about total power in the slightest. That's a pretty silly thing to quibble about when there are literally Super God CYOAs. My concern there is the aesthetic consideration about points to spend versus potential options. The player is in a situation where it's almost more efficient to consider what not to buy than what to buy.
>>
>>46529839
I don't see how would that make it weird since Fusion is a power. (Not saying fusion and conjoinment are the same just that something that can tend to be categorized similarly is in there currently as a positive.) That being said, I would like to see conjoined twins in there.
>>
>>46535941
idk man, a lot seems unsaid or said in really roundabout ways. Or maybe it is said, but it's not really the focus and I skipped over it.

the first generation of Travellers aren't around. Maybe they were bad guys, idk. The second generation are in charge of things, but they also war among themselves a worrying amount.

The third generation are composed entirely of people approved/discovered by some algorithm or something, then recruited.

It's implied that Earth is important for some reason, and that's why humans are so common. There were two other common races before the big war, but one of them has become rare in the multiverse and isn't easily recruited. A fourth race has become common since then (my own thinking is that the algorithm really likes them).

There are implied to be some details or restrictions to time/dimension travel that make the setting work. Like the homeworld has a universal time - if you leave for 5 hours, you can only return 5 hours after you left. The multiple-universe theory of time travel (when you jump in, you create a new timeline where you appear, but the old timeline also goes on) applies, but only sometimes I guess.

The Old Ones probably exist outside of time in some sense, and I don't think it's worth trying to figure out how a war like that works.
>>
>>46535941
Not Highlander, but I think I might be able to answer.

>The Yautja, Humans, Nisetic and Mokresia tend to be the constant species in the multiverse to get to a point where they can be inducted into the Travellers. There are other races, but they tend to only exist in certain multiverses.
>Shoggoths are likely on the bottom of the eldritch food chain, and can be broken to serve us, due to lack of will.
>It's not like they're secretly working for the Old Ones... right?
>They're the first generation of the Travellers. All of the really old Travellers tend to be from the second generation.
>I'm thinking along the lines of the Reapers: the Old Ones left behind knowledge that led to the first generation messing with the multiverse and preparing for their arrival unknowingly.
>Several places are time-locked, meaning that you can't access the area at a certain point. All time travel is regulated by the Ae Clock that the Collectors keep.

No idea if this is accurate, but that's what I'm guessing.
>>
>>46535926
Oh... Awkward.
>>
>>46535941
>But how come those particular four are the core? What's happened that really led to that?
Just my theory, but it could just be that the Old Ones point of entry into the multiverse just happened to be populated with realities dominated by those races. The multiverse is said to be infinite, so there's an untold amount of alien races out there. These just happen to have had the honor of being the first to witness the Old Ones and be used in there scheme.

>And if they actually time/dimension travel how come the war wasn't already lost when anyone caught up to it?
What the travellers do when they time travel is actually just jumping to an alternate reality that is identical to the one they just left, but is further along it's own timeline. I like to imagine it like a Holodeck from Star Trek, except everything is real. It's a massively useful tool but you can't really use it to effect the timeline you care about. Gotta do that the old fashioned way.

Some of this stuff is explained at the bottom of the CYOA btw.
>>
>>46536428
>you create a new timeline (...) but only sometimes I guess
That's throwing me in a line of thought where, instead of creating timelines where a war against the old ones goes on, it's more like a mechanism to generate new universes.
But that would mean that there's no "winning" - everything would be merely going as planned.
>>46536431
Time-locking seems rather arbitrary. Is there any particular reason stated? I'd assume it's to not undo some forms of progress.
>>46536554
So wait, are timelines effectively "copied"? I guess that brings me back to the first point.
>>
>>46535811
Big. Fuckoff. Armour. BIG. FUCKOFF. ARMOUR.But in all seriousness it's a twenty foot mech created with a combination of your own genetics and heavy armour. Not as defensive as Tartoros Armour but much more offensively inclined.

>>46535769
You are a member of Travellers, bound to a duty to safeguard the planes of reality from conceptual gods. Gods who fucking ripped apart the Travellers nine centuries ago but haven't been seen since. Since then they've kept themselves busy even surviving the cosmic tides, many forget the duty as a passing memory, but should the threat return all will be prepared.

Just give me a Some of these aren't so simple.
>>
>>46535941
As for the rest of your questions...

>But how come those particular four are the core?

Nisetics have numbers, powerful bodies and are capable of a maddening single mindedness that can lead them through the millennium with an insane hatred for all life outside of themselves, driving the entire species to extinction in some timelines at the will of the commanding voice.
Yautja are unbreakable and powerful hunters, with very few creatures capable of operating with such vigor, however bound to a reactionary honour system to an absurd degree.
Humans are everything and nothing, capable of simpering out in a moment yet lighting the galaxy ablaze.

The capabilities of these races on individual and massed levels is what made them ideal candidates for the servants of the Great old ones to help bring their conceptual gods into the physical planes.

The Mokresia came later, they help serve as a balancing act within the Travellers, being far more socially and empathically inclined than the other 'core' races. It should also be noted that due to the low possible recruitment numbers the Yautja are only a tiny number of the Travellers and are dwarfed now by the Mokresia and even some of the minor races like the Klingons and the Space Gypsies. It should also be noted the AI might outnumber everyone including humans, however only bodied AI who do things count themselves on the numbers, due to an internal AI agreement.

>What's happened that really led to that?

Recruitment interests, hubworld placement being mainly on earth, leftovers of the second generations recruiting from their own species, etc, etc. I imagine if the or the Manju had been one of the initial ‘races’ they’d have had a much larger pool of interested recruiters.
>>
>>46535941

>How come you can have an abomination pet then?

What we call eldritch are the grand children of the Great old ones and attempted to recreate their non-physical nature, however they are bound to physicality, and are parts of the physical world, vast and strange but still parts of the dimensions they inhabit, the same applies to their children. In some cases they Lovecraftian horrors of legend have aided and conversed with the Travellers despite plenty of animosity from both sides, with Duwall having allegedly conversed with Yog Sothoth.

>Isn't that kind of self-defeating?

Not really, Shogs are useful allies, and in an abstracted state there is no more a loyal creature. They have no loyalty to the great old ones, only their handlers.

>Is this 'organization' the so-called travellers?

Yes. Yes it is.

>... How did the institution even come to be in the first place?

Technically it was formed by the initial cultists who sought to give the Old Ones entrance, however they were consolidated after the Denial of the Old Ones and several Timewars as the protectors of the physical planes against them.

>And if they actually time/dimension travel how come the war wasn't already lost when anyone caught up to it?

The Denial was a long running event, it took Epoch to initiate battering away at a single spot in the planes, waiting for the heat death of that reality. The Denial itself only lasted half an hour and was easily time-locked until the dying reality finally collapsed into the big crunch that the Cultists had prior planned to enable the Old Ones easy entrance across the realities.

I believe this is everything. If you've got anything else throw it at me, it helps me make sure everything is put in script.
>>
>>46529452
It's best to centralize CYOAs anyway.
>>
>>46536041
Your 'options' are predicated on the idea of making people choose the same shit but ending up being able to pick less total because they had to pay more to keep their builds. Not a good solution.
>>
>>46536608
Okay, so how do the Mokresia look like, anyway?
How do Nisetics usually look, too?
What are the AI's motivations? Or are they as varied as everyone else?
>>46536594
Oh. It would be nice to have some background how races work overall before picking a background - and for instance, what is the Feathered God? Where did it come from?
>>46536622
> In some cases they Lovecraftian horrors of legend have aided (...) despite plenty of animosity from both sides
Ah, I see. What would their interests be to even have such an alliance? Their physicality?
>(...) it took Epoch to initiate (...)
Is Epoch a who, a what or a when?
>>
>>46536577
I think it's less that they're copied and more that every possible permutation of a reality exists out there. So you have realities where the only difference is that a rock rolled left instead of right, all the way to ones where the Milky Way doesn't exist. This is probably why the Prophet of the third is so important and so very, very crazy
>>
>>46536738
> Mokresia
They're a cross between X-com Sectoids and and the star wars Dug, lean, grey but wiry and capable of physical tasks.

> Nisetics
Big Grey, Horned Fuckers.
But in all seriousness they've got the widest range of appearance, from big grey bug creatures, to grey skinned humans, some subgroups have gills, some have wings.

> AI Motivations?
Varied as everyone else, however they have the advantages of instant communication between each other and a stark lack of shame.

>what is the Feathered God?
A remnant spirit of the Mesoamerican peoples, bare in mind I left many of the origins so open as to allow some interpretation, enabling wider numbers of builds with the same origins.

>What would their interests be to even have such an alliance?
Unknown, however it was Yog who initiated the parley with Duwall, and he hasn't been eager to share what the Outer thing spoke of, despite the interests from the Void Hunters.

Is Epoch a who, a what or a when?
Tens of millions of years. The cultists were determined if nothing else.

Need anything else?
