The Horus Heresy story of their first Chapter Master is pretty boss. And the fact that Crimson Fists are THE Space Marines, regardless of how hard GW tries to champion the Ultramarines. They were on that bomb-ass metal cover for the original Rogue Trader, and no amount of retcons can take that away.
Truly if they were any more awesome, they'd be considered First Founding, and they'd deserve it too.

so instead of a victory and a dead traitor primarch, he got most of the fleet destroyed

I find them to be the level-headed part of Dorn's old legion. They aren't as crazy-zealous as the Templars, and slightly less suicidedly stubborn than the Imperial Fists. Somewhat of a vanilla chapter, less prominent (especially with that master-class fuckup where they nearly destroyed themselves) than the Smurfs. Many tend towards Spanish/Hispanic names. I personally think more Reconquista Spain, less Mexico. This may be simply due to their part of space being settled by post-hispanics in the DAoTech, and the names having stuck around.

If she wants to play Fists what makes you think she's open to playing another chapter (even a successor)?
Unless she just wants Fists' rules in which case, yeah OK.
Let her know off hand that painting yellow is extremely hard, the crimson fists are fairly popular, and share that you'd think it'd be funny since they're perceived as Mexican.
Alternatively show off their other cool successors until she finds a scheme she likes.

A Land Raider appropriately named Rynn's Might that somehow managed to skillfully pilot itself using only its machine spirit and take out a good chunk of the invading Ork horde, including a warboss, with hellish accurate weapon fire. When it ran out of ammo, it then tried to run over the Orks and when its treads were clogged with bodies and its doors smashed open, it was entered by Lootas seeking to take it after which it vented the reactor and killed them all with hot plasma.. The Crimson Fists were able to recover the machine spirit of "Rynn's Might", and are now trying to find a new vehicle to house the machine spirit. They probably need a titan chassis to contain that much awesome.
