So lets say you actually got dumped into another world, with pc level stats and growth potential. Would any of you actually be a good guy? It seems like most people would either stay safe in a town somewhere, or go rape/murder/pillage across the lands.
>>
no. i'd go straight to a college and start learning magic
>>
Does being a hero actually pay anything?
>>
>>46492367

Amen.

I mean I don't know enough about engineering to do much, but the ability to apply the scientific method to throwing fireballs might be handy.
>>
>>46492379

Gratitude!

Also you can sell everything owned by the people you kill.
>>

It occasionaly pays in the hand of the kings young son in marriage. He will make a beautiful bride.
>>
>>46492441
Yeah, but couldnt i just massacre a villiage and get more money that way?
>>
>>46492359
Honestly? Yeah, I'd probably try.

I grew up wanting to fight Evil, with a capital E. I read about Evil in all the books, I learned about the Devil and how he's Evil, and I always hated the idea that people would voluntarily commit Evil acts (as I understood them to be) to harm others.

One of the hardest things for me growing up was that Evil, captial E, is a very, very rare thing in todays world - it just really doesn't exist anymore, at least in a way I can fight against it. Everything is really just evil, lower-case e. Dark, demonic spirits, unspeakable horrors, armies of black-hearted rogues don't really walk today - now it's just people shooting each other up over money, or angry, misunderstood people lashing out at their perceived oppressors, or negligence preventing good deeds from being done. It's wrong, but it's not Evil.

To be placed into a land where not only is Evil proven to exist, but where I'd have the power to actually stop it, would be almost liberating for childhood Anon, and give me the purpose I honestly feel like I'm lacking here on earth. I believe in God and the Devil still, but I also believe that the days of armies of men marching to combat the hordes of Pure Evil are long behind us - now it's a whole bunch of little evil we need to fight today, and that's so, so much more difficult and less rewarding.

I dunno, just my thoughts.

>>

But then the local lord would probably send men to kill you. I mean, as a pc you have a good chance of fending then off, unless you piss off the king and he sends his best men.
>>
>>46492476

Massacre a village you get 100℅ of its revenue, once.

Own it and ask for taxes, you get 10℅ a year. After 10 years you're ahead, and nobody's trying to burn you at the stake.

Plus, physical fights are EXHAUSTING. Most RPGs just don't reflect the sheer effort it takes to fight one person, let alone an entire village.
>>
>>46492489
I honestly feel the same way anon and I would try to do the same thing. Plus I like the idea of getting to do something truly important
>>
>>46492489

Having PC stats and being in a world where I don't have any pre-existing attachments? Hell yes I'd try to be a hero.
>>
>>46492359
For a given value of "hero", yes.
I'd certainly try to right wrongs, save lives, and leave the world a better place, but I'd be an asshole about it. I really don't give half a shit about people's gratitude or morality; I just fucking hate when shit doesn't work like it should.

Call me Autism-man, defender of the neat, orderly, and productive.

I'd like to think I would. Like, that's my power fantasy and all. And if PC-level stats include things like wisdom and willpower then maybe it would be so. But if I'm honest with myself I'm probably still a weaker person than that, faced with those stresses and circumstances.

>pc level stats and growth potential

Time to cheat. As much as physically possible.

Find the quickest, safest route to level ups and start the grind-train baby. Put all your levels in magic. Once you get high enough, fix everything at once.

None of this putting out tiny fires reactive bullshit, Everything. At once.

So, I mean, I'm probably a villain, simple because Villains Act and Heroes React, and Heroes defend the status quo.

But I truly do believe that Utopia Justifies the Means.
>>
>>46492359
Probably not.
>tfw no motivation to do anything but work to pay my rent, shitpost on 4chan, and sometimes hang out with friends on the weekend.

It depends on how you define hero. I would go on an adventure, try to meet other PCs to enjoy the ride with, win fame and fortune, find the love of my life, and fight against the invading hordes of whatever happens to be threatening the land. I may be viewed as a hero if I'm successful, but I'd only be Good insofar as fighting against Evil because it's more fun than having to deal with everyone hating me for being an Evil prick. If shit hit the fan I would definitely do some things a paladin would not approve of to protect me and mine or just get the hell out of there.
>>
>>46492622
>Plus, physical fights are EXHAUSTING. Most RPGs just don't reflect the sheer effort it takes to fight one person, let alone an entire village.
Most powerful RPG heroes' veins are literally brimming with supernatural power, though, so that might be less of a problem.
>>
>>46492961
Meh. I would avoid the lone trader because it sounds like he would not be worth the time. But if a princess and her caravan come through, i am slaughtering all her attendents, leaving an orc body there to make it look like a raid, and keeping the princess in my rape dungeon.

On the other hand, if were just some random weakling in a world full of magic and monsters, I'd busy myself trying to slink back home while staying as far under the radar as possible.

Assuming I realize that right off the bat, then definitely the former. I'd have no interest in returning given such a clear path and more than enough power behind me to see my goals through. I'd probably ultimately become the well paid bodyguard/enforcer of some mildly corrupt noble or something, since combat is typically a PCs specialty. I'd sell my strength to the highest bidder, and the one that would give me the most leeway in my personal affairs.

I too long for a world where I could fight against Evil, where I could do something that would actually matter.

Here on Earth, evil has taken root and, like a vile weed, refuses to be stamped out in any meaningful way. Sure you might fight a war, but once you kill one terrorist cell, 10 more will rise up to replace it. Sure you might save an old woman from a mugger, but you haven't changed anything really. If he goes to prison and he isn't already in a gang, he'll probably join one and become a more violent criminal. If he is somehow aquited, he'll probably have such high fees that he'll be back out on the prowl soon enough.

In a fantasy world where I not only know that ultimate Evil exists, but am also assured a glorious afterlife succeed or fail, why the hell not? I would gladly crusade to crush Evil wherever it may lie.

The plus side being: some women would fall in love with him for that very reason. Lets just hope he's the type that lets the poor gal have a safe word, eh? There are plenty of ladies out there that would relish being dominated by some violent shady thug, all the moreso if he's the strongest shady thug.

Who knows, maybe after pounding the princess raw, he'll show her even the slightest kindness. Toss her a towel, hand her a glass of water, and suddenly a spark is born.

Next thing you know the princess is running away from the castle, dressed in his colors, ready to be his adorable psycho sidekick.

He's the MC, so why not?

Yeah, but he's a lone drifter. The idea is to pin the crime on the local color. Who's established in this area? Who leads them? How do they operate, what do they wear? Every village is going to have its own home grown criminal element. You point the heat at them and then wander away. Or better yet, kill them all, say they did it, and collect a reward on top of your ill gotten gains. If the king's men ask where all the money in the village went, tell them some of the bandits got away with the loot. Barring some magical CSI scrying type shit, you get paid and make a clean break. Well, until you establish a pattern of being in the right place at the right time for these kinds of happenings, but by then you're high enough level to just steamroll your way through the whole of the kingdom virtually unscathed.

I'd like to say that the only reason I'm not going around performing acts of heroism right now is that the world we live in doesn't allow it, but that's quite plainly untrue. In truth, I am too selfish and apathetic to care enough about the suffering of others to do anything so drastic, and too cowardly to put myself at risk.

In all honesty, I would probably be the villain.
Not a villain like Sauron, none of that traditional dark lord world takeover nonsense.

I'd be Skeletor.

I'd get to live out my childhood dream of being both A) the villain that is so incompetent that the resources needed to get rid of him outweigh the damage that he does, and B) Use my veneer of incompetence to cover for me while I take over the criminal underworld of whatever place I'm in. Once I do that, I would go for civilizing the local crime. Be a better class of villain, get paid by the city because we prevent lots of outside crime from getting in, and lots of crimes of passion via deterrent, and I also get to lead adventurers to my Evil Lair of Doom every weekend and laugh as they trigger the trap room filled with nerf guns.

Evil is always great as a growth industry in all honesty.
>>
Pretty sure most guys out here saying one of the extremes (going out to murderfuck the world/smiting evil left and right) would most likely just like most people stick at home and become a really good dung farmer who helps exterminate some of the troublesome local wildlife and maybe even pesky adventurers who get a little too rowdy after their drinks. But yeah, I wouldn't even mind that. Just be a normal villager +, or maybe sign myself up for the local guard at a big city because holy Hell is actually judging people yourself scary. Not sure bout y'all but I'm far too easily fooled to want to be the one who just goes about smiting people all the time
>>
>>46496620
So you'd essentially establish the Guild of Calamitous Intent. Impose order on the sordid violence and outright terrorism of super villainy. Not sure how I feel about that.
>>
>>46496632
That depends on how powerful I am or how powerful I become. I wouldn't pick fights I wasn't very confident that I could win, but there's not a whole lot a powerful high level player can't do when it comes to mortal threats.

Being that strong, it would be a waste to keep my head down and not make use of such a rare and valuable resource. It'd be like sitting on a gold mine and not profiting on it because counting all that money sounds like too much of a hassle.

But you're right, if I feel like it isn't worth the effort or that the threat to my person is too high, I'd play it real quiet.
>>
>>46496620
Sounds like a chill guy to be honest.

>>46496712
It depends on the setting that you land in aswell. What if it's noblebright, instead of grimdark? What if nobledark or grimbright? There's many variables floating around still.
>>
>>46496664
The end goal I suppose would be to make supervillainy a valid career path, albeit a somewhat overlooked one. Some day in the future, apprentices will be sent to the guild of villains, where they will learn the fine arts of the trade like the Evil Laugh, the Cape Swish, and the Ominous Pun. It'd be like a bards college meets pro wrestling, as run by Invader Zim, and run entirely on pseudo-illicit funds from the local king/queen/ruler who's in on the action.

It also makes the adventurer market sustainable. And, when you get those really evil megalomaniacs that pop up with a world domination plan, they can't hire any henchmen, because we've got them unionized.

Yeah exactly, if we'd start of with laser eyes and flight I'm sure we'd all pop off into the sky and save the day.
But going on the whole premise of us being first level or so for starters I kinda suspect most of us will end playing it quiet. Because heck, going for a nice and positive view right now all of us HAVE the option of becoming a bright and flaming example for all good in humanity. Instead though we're choosing to play it safe and browse /tg/, yes most of us atleast try and make the world a better place little bit by little bit. And maybe that's what we'd with our new found powers, just keep it small and try to be a good human bean. Because really, except for us not having laser eyes, what's stopping us /tg/'ers from becoming the next exemplar?
>>

I doubt that would work. Criminality isn't something you can unionize as much as you'd think.

>>
>>46496798
Well I mean, in fantasy settings theives guilds happen a lot. And they're basically the same concept, but on a much smaller scale. The city allows them to exist because they prevent rampant thievery by kneecapping anyone who steals in their city that isn't affiliated with them. This is kind of the same concept, but scaled up for villainy as a whole. It works as a safety net for the villains, since they have a form of backup, and works well for the heroes, since they have an organization who has a vested interest in keeping out major dangers so that they can go back to being villains. If a potential dark lord, crazed serial killer, or other such unsavory type shows up, you have both sides of the law looking for it. It works out better in the end for everyone. The difficulty is getting the city behind it in the first place.
>>
>>46492489
The world is no longer as simple as it once was anon.

Evil has changed and become harder to see, but we have not, and can't seem to see what is between the lines in front of us.
>>
>>46496795
Tranqs can be messy, depending on the target's body weight, medical history, and other complications like that.

Nerf guns are better because while they're being pelted with foam, they won't notice the tripwires, or trapdoors, or numerous other triggers hidden around the area.

Also, it's funny to watch seasoned adventurers swat pathetically at foam darts.

I'd probably wander around until I found a town I liked and then adopt it as my home town. Work on making the surrounding areas better, work on becoming an influential force in the town, eventually gain a prominent voice and begin directing the town to be more what I want.

I think I'd be a fighter overall, but I'd definitely work my ass off to pick up some magic from different classes. A minor healing spell, a light spell of some kind, a fire spell, and an ice spell. Nothing major, just enough to: heal minor wounds that need more than a bit of dirt rubbed in them; make sure I'm not fucked if something goes bump in the night and I can't light a damn torch; light a fire (or a fuckin torch, why are these things so hard to light?!); chill a drink. I don't need to know the why of how magic works, just teach me enough to make the spell work.

Since we're talkin PC levels and whatnot, I'd stack up strength until I could wield a giant hammer and a big ass shield at the same time.

If my life was actually on the line I would learn some healing magic and basic combat skills. Then I'd head off to find the most boring, definitely not cursed town in the land, set myself up as the town doctor/healer and live my life with a decent amount of ale, a bar maid at my side and my constant research into more and more powerful forms of magic. I'd probably never use it, but on the off chance that a mysterious knight or quartet of brave adventurers came a knocking, I would want to be able to immolate them without a second's hesitation.

Probably the most sane answer here.

>I spend every day assessing risk and trying to implement controls and mitigation strategies.
Yeah, sitting on your fat ass in your cubicle.
>Some days you just want to say 'Fuck it', and see what happens.
The fact that you haven't already done so in real life tells me that you won't do it in a fantasy world either.
>>
>>46498890
Different anon, but my brother keeps dragging me into plot hooks. His dex and con are absurd, mr I got hit by a car and walked away.
And here we have yet another skateboard punk rock adventure.
>>
>>46498887
Nobody said you are allowed to keep your real world knowledge.
>>
Well, I'm already a wizard. Guess I'll figure out how enchant a few items to sell every now and then to keep living the NEET life.

>Yeah, sitting on your fat ass in your cubicle.
More or less.
>The fact that you haven't already done so in real life tells me that you won't do it in a fantasy world either.
But I'm from /out/. I'm doing 'fuck it' stuff all the time, just not as a job which is what OP seems to be implying, rather than just forming some sort of 'anti evil militia'.

I try to be a good guy in this world. Instead of hitting goblins with a stick or whatever I'd probably put my education to use and try to improve infrastructure and the economy while taking a few levels of cleric for self-defense.
>>
>>46492489
You have my aid, brother.

/tg/ Paladin order when?
>>
>>46492359
I don't know if I'd be a hero, exactly, of the typical epic fantasy RPG type, questing for holy artifacts to save the world, if I could avoid it.

But I would probably do some adventuring to start off, focusing on adventures where I can gain influence (enough to get a royal charter to found a town on the frontier) and resources (enough to give the town a good start). I'd spend downtime scouting good locations, and when I finally got it started, I would have the town thoroughly planned out, stage by stage. I'd keep adventuring, to pacify the surrounding area, open trade routes, and generally improve my town's position. Maybe by the time I was done, I'd ascend to become a demigod of urban planners and architects.

Go back to tvtropes.

I feel like I wouldn't really be a hero, but a weird antisocial crypt robber.
>>
>>46495486
Stop trying to make the Paladin fall, /pol/.
>>

>try to become a hero out of lingering guilt issues
>end up dying at Level 1

This is how it ends for me.
>>
>>46499008
Nobody said that you aren't either, so it assumed that you do.
>>
>>46499008
>So lets say you actually got dumped into another world
Sounds pretty clear to me that you do, but i think the point of this thread anyway, is would /tg/ act on their fantasy if they had a choice, or stay behind and do farming shit.
>>
>>46498984
>get given a second chance
>have stats bumped up to the level of soon-to-be-demigods
>not taking the chance and running with it

I've met people I could swear browse /r9k/ and they'd probably take up arms under circumstances like this. You'd have to be enough of a coward that you were literally scared of your own shadow not to take this opportunity.

If you had the money, imagine all the things you'd buy or the charities you'd donate to. Now imagine if someone handed that to you on a silver platter.

It'd be the best day of your life, and I doubt there's /anyone/ for whom it wouldn't be.
>>
>>46492359
I gotta say, I'd probably never be the hero in the conventional manner. I'd do good incidentally, sure. Helping people requires so little from me most the time, but I'd mostly be in it for the challenge.
In a fantasy world, EVERYTHING can be improved, even things that shouldn't be possible due to bodily limitations. I can train and train with no effective limit, and with visible results at every milestone. I'd be out there fighting just to fight, making up new styles and techniques just to see if they were possible, constantly trying to test my strength against the best of the best to see if I could. In essence, I'd be Goku.

Have you SEEN the survival rates of first level characters when the DM doesn't restrain himself?

Could make a good (tragic) prologue for a dark fantasy series. The Boy Who Tried.

Only beacause it has to be interesting. If you can progress at the rate if a pc, just go join the guards and practice fighing. Your level will soar much faster than normal.

As long as he uses CR-appropriate enemies, everything will be fine!

Right?
>>
>>46498974
Actually, after further thought, odds are this would just end with a powerful hero/holy order mistaking my town for cursed/demon worshiping.

>we all end up under siege from an order of paladins
>I try my best to defeat them alone but I just can't
>the rest of the town, my friends and family, come to my aid despite having literally no experience of fighting
>I watch as my loved ones die for my mistaken attempts to protect them from murder hobos and plot.
>In the darkness, a voice whispers to me
>"I could save them. I could give you the power you need. All you must do is bow and obey"
>Become the champion of a foul, eldritch god.
>massacre the paladins and offer them as a sacrifice to my new master
>my own people are horrified and terrified of me
>forced to abandon my home after years of happiness, seeking revenge against the people who took it from me
>decades spent in the service of my patron turn me into a cold and cruel sorcerer.
>Eventually he makes me into a sorcerer-king, oppressing a great many normal people
>when the chosen heroes finally break through my defenses I wait for them and our final confrontation.
>I feel relief for the first time in so long as the blade finally falls on my neck.

So... I guess eventually I would be the bad guy.

>just go join the guards and practice fighing. Your level will soar much faster than normal.
>harmless sparring will increase your level
Have you even played D&D?

No.

Heroes venture forth and fight the vile forces of darkness that gather every day.
Heroes save the kingdom from rampaging dragons that threaten to devour enslave all who dare oppose them.
Heroes are renowned as champions, their deeds are forever engraved in history they shape the world.

But heroes never look back, they move on. Every tavern, every town, every court, every province is a hero's humble beginning, but never their end.
They will never again share a drink in that moldy tavern.
They will never again help the townsmen at the mill and fields.
They will never again partake in a Lord's noble hunt, winning the admiration of the ladies.
They will never again fish with the old hermit by the lake, who shakes with every cast of his rod.

No, this world does not need more heroes, it needs protectors, it needs balance.
I will raise my blade at those who dare to attack the defenseless farm.
I will point my spear at the vicious beasts that bring plague and death to the harvest.
I will defend this small town until not a single drop of blood is left in my body. And If I am regarded as a hero for my duty, then so be it.

But my fantasy would be to be inventor in "medieval" fantasy world. I mean with my knowledge I could invent tons of shit and would be go into history famous as fuck. Why would I want to be a murderhobo when I can be so much more and finally put my skills/education into something meaningful?
>>
>no one has asked "what system".

D&D 3.5? Maybe

WHFRP? Fuck no.

>Drop off inter-dimensional portal
>Immediately find some wimpy farmer and kill him, no remorse
>Git loots, sell loots for coins, buy equipments
>Chain over padded cloth, slightly used axe, booze
>Ambush passerby and travellers, save enough coins to travel
>Join a merc band
>Kill for coins
Then either:
>Die on the battlefield, content with your short and brutal life
>Live long enough to quit and settle down, have fond memories of chopping people to death

If only ;-;
>>

>lingering guilt issues
Why?

So, Quentyn Martell?
>>
>>46499736
This is an RPG world. The plot is going to catch you, no matter how hard you fight it. You could spend years as an engineer or doctor or general nice guy. But eventually someone is gonna give you that quest that you have no option but to take and then you're fucked
>>
>>46492359
I'd most likely try to learn some healing magic and just take care of people who really need it, like the peasants in some shithole in bumfuck nowhere. I just can't imagine myself doing heroic things like fighting evil, even in a world where I have pc stats. Maybe once in a while I can help actual heroes.
